  1. Kind of... your AI wingmen in the Block 20 will salute with animation, but your own will not, which is a bit strange.
  2. From Wags: Air-to-Ground Ranging (AGR) radar mode Air-to-ground ranging (AGR) mode is an indirect radar mode—it is commanded automatically by the MC when deemed necessary and cannot be directly selected. Its purpose is to provide slant range to an aimpoint to allow a more precise calculation of altitude above target. When commanded, the AGR legend will appear on the HUD and the RDR ATTK format will display the AGR sub-format. If the radar was operating in MAP mode, it's possible to exit AGR mode and return to MAP by assigning TDC priority to the RDR ATTK format.
  3. Granted that I fly the DCS Hornet almost exclusively - Yesterday's OB update seems like a really good one! Thanks for all the work, ED Team! PS - Love parking the sim in F3 view and flying the hornet around RC style... listening to that "Hornet-Howl" at that sweet-spot airspeed. :)
  4. As others have mentioned, I've mapped a lot of Hornet DDI functions to my HOTAS including: Radar range, azimuth, TWS/RWS mode selection, SA selection, HSI scale, and others by simply mapping the appropriate DDI OSB button.
  5. Agreed on all points. Though I'd say that, even with textures on high in 4K, they still don't look as good as Persian Gulf and even in some cases, the Caucasus map's textures.
  6. To enlist words like: "cowardly," "brave," "fear," "scared," etc. in a discussion about a bunch of people sitting in immobile chairs in their air-conditioned homes, mouth-breathing while staring at pixels is pretty ridiculous.
  7. Agreed on the original post. I honestly find the Caucasus map, aside from the lack of detail and individual trees in comparison to Syria, better looking from medium and high altitudes than Syria at this point.
  8. That's interesting because with terrain textures set to 'high,' I'd say that they still don't look as good as the Persian Gulf or Nevada textures. Syria is my first ever third party module, so maybe I'm just used to how ED's in house stuff looks... which is always pretty amazing.
  9. I'm wondering something: It seems that since last week's OB update, the in-game anti-aliasing (MSAA) settings have changed. I've been playing DCS at 3840x2160 for several years now. One of the cool things about this is that I've been able to avoid using the resource-heavy MSAA graphics option because, at 4K, the sim has always looked quite good...with minimal/acceptable levels of "jaggies" and shimmering. Now, quite frankly, the sim looks pretty ugly with MSAA off, even at 4K. However, when I set MSAA to 2, I'm getting the usual (significant) performance hit. It's like they've dumbed down the base-level MSAA affect to make it appear that the sim is performing better with the same MSAA settings... when in reality they've dropped the anti-aliasing quality lower than it used to be? I'm probably wrong here, but just curious. Long story short, I'm getting a new, significant, performance hit in order to achieve the same level of beauty that I got in 4K before last week's update. Is anyone else noticing this?
  10. Yeah, it's interesting. If I'm honest, though the Syria map is far and away the most detailed map in DCS, it is probably the worst looking for me at the moment. I've been playing DCS at 4K for several years now and have never turned on MSAA in-game because, at that res., everything has looked pretty acceptable. But Syria? Man, it's bad. From altitude, metal building rooftops shimmer and dance like crazy... and those chain link fences... it's like staring at a moving MC Escher drawing. :)
  11. My greatest takeaway from Growling Sidewinder's video here is how yellowish DCS' lighting has become since the big 2.5.6 lighting upgrade. It stands out most in this comparison:
  12. Hear, hear!
  13. Gave Syria another go today at 4K with MSAA set to both None and 4x. The shimmering effect on buildings, shadows, and those massive chain-link fences is just really bad. Not sure if it's to be called a bug, WIP issue, or just bad execution? Probably best for me to actually film my screen with an ipad so you can see the effect rather than a track. Obviously a screenshot won't capture the pulsating movement. I'm getting worse shimmering in Syria at 4x MSAA than I do with PG at 0x MSAA. Anyone else experiencing this? **EDIT - I may be imagining things now, but i tried PG at 4x MSAA just for comparison and it seems as if, globally, since yesterday's update that AA in general has diminished. Anyone else noticing more 'jaggies' and shimmering generally in the sim since yesterday's update?
  14. Some first impressions after one session, for what they're worth: LOTS of amazing detail. LOTS of shimmering. I play DCS at full 4K with MSAA set to "0" and I'd have to say that, out of Caucasus, Persian Gulf, Nevada, and Syria maps... Syria is my worst looking map in terms of shimmering... it's pretty bad. This third impression isn't backed up by hours of flying, so don't take it too seriously... but the textures from medium and high altitudes seem a bit bland to me with all settings on high. Performance is the lowest of the four maps I own, but probably to be expected given the MASSIVE amount of objects/details.
  15. Agreed. Very well-thought and sensible post from Statrekmike
  16. ^^^ Yes.
  17. Surely the new campaign engine will allow us to fly as just a small-wheel-in-the-gearbox single pilot. If not, a lot of people are probably going to be disappointed.
  18. I also have very little interest in a World map. War zones with a dynamic RTS campaign with improved performance is my biggest interest in this already superior Air Combat Sim. Aside from the weather system we've seen on YTube, I have very little interest in MS's new offering.
  19. This damage modeling is amazing. Incredible looking map!
  20. I'd pay $75 for a working dynamic campaign engine. I'm WAY more interested in this aspect of the sim than another aircraft or map module.
  21. Even though my home pit is NO WHERE NEAR the expert craftsmanship and budget of this setup ( ), his reasons for using 2D are mine as well... especially what he has to say about sharing at 3:01... couldn't have said it better myself.
  22. Nah, 2d with a home-built cockpit and 55 inch or larger screen with TrackIR is absolutely fantastic in DCS! I have no problem with sticking with them both for the foreseeable future.
  23. Hey, Diveplane. What are your in-game gamma settings? If I have gamma up high enough to make city lights realistic, nose wheel lights are too bright. If I have gamma low enough to make the nose wheel look good, city lights are too dim.
