480th vTFS Weekly Report Next week is the large force exercise, REFORGER, so me and my wingman Mobile went out to the Polygone EW range along with the crews from JaBoG 35 in the second REFORGER Joint Training Exercise. Our focus this week was to refine our ability to meet a time on target whilst also fulfilling our task successfully. We also debuted a new weapon this week - the AGM-78A STARM. The difference between the shrike and the STARM is like night and day. Despite some issues with switchology, we were able to launch a STARM down the throat of an SA-6 training target, taking it offline. Both my flight (Miller flight) and JaBoG 35's flight (Knight 4) made their ToT right on time. Almost the exact moment the SA-6 came offline, Knight 4 was able to fly into it's missile range, and hammer the training airfield target we had setup at the Grostenquin range. We also learned a VERY valuable lesson. Jammers attract ARM's the same way a SAM emitter does. We had a few lucky near misses where one of my shrikes tracked on the flight lead of Knight flight, and later on, my wingman's STARM went right after the #2 of Knight flight, and thankfully missed. It's incredibly enjoyable to learn how to coordinate with groups like JaBoG 35 better and better with each flight we do. All the while - pilots from the Iron Curtain Aviators Group, specifically flying as the It really amazing to see how well both Miller and Knight performed; on the previous REFORGER JTE, we were able to hit the target successfully, but my flight's timing was very off, and we arrived at the target almost one and a half minutes too early. One thing that feels truly special about these REFORGER JTE's is how "alive" the airspace feels. On the way back to base during the first REFORGER JTE I watched the A-10's from TDCS hammer their training targets at the Baumholder range. Here are some photos from the sortie! null Welcome to the 480th vTFS! I'm Josh, or if you prefer "Cooper". I've been a part of the flight sim community for years now, since I was only 16 during the times of Rise of Flight. I've always been extremely passionate about aviation, but one aspect of aviation that I can never get enough of - is Cold War era aviation. Big birds like the Eagle, or Tomcat, or more relevant to this post, the Phantom have always been some of my favorite aircraft ever. Now with the F-4 in DCS and the Cold War Germany map, I can start a true passion project of mine - starting a Cold War era F-4 Wild Weasel squadron in DCS - with a focus on flying how they flew. Flying the real patterns around Spang', flying the real approaches, using the tactics they used... etc. What is in the 480th vTFS? An easy-going, open-minded, friendly atmosphere, with passionate like-minded people looking to simulate what it was like in the 480th TFS during the 70s and 80s as realistically as possible, without making it a second job. Custom made skins that were researched to match the paintjobs of the real 480th jets during the 70s and 80s. Custom made in-flight guides for Spangdahlem and the areas around it. These use as much information from the 80s as we can get (albeit this information is very limited), and the rest is inferred from modern FLIPs, and other FLIPs from the 80s. Regular, weekly coordination and collaboration with the REFORGER community in DCS. An atmosphere of learning. We're all passionate about this hobby, and as you probably know, this hobby involves a LOT of learning. We'll all learn from mistakes. From mistakes while flying, to mistakes in my research, and as time goes on, we'll have a better and more realistic group for us to fly in What are the requirements to join? You must be at least 18 years old. You must own the Heatblur F-4E module. You must own the Ugra Media Cold War Germany Map You must have SRS downloaded and installed And finally, you must have a working microphone and HOTAS. If you're interested in joining, come stop by our Discord group! Me and my wingman Mobile after the last REFORGER Joint Training Exercise

I noticed that the taxiways at Ramstein are contradictory and inaccurate For example, the signage saying that taxiway B is to the left and right, only for the signage on said taxiways to indicate you're on taxiway alpha, and to the left, indicates you're on taxiway alpha... and also taxiway echo

Quick, semi-off topic question, but where did you find a Spangdahlem FLIP? I haven't been able to find anything except for the limited info on milais and mil-de and some vatsim information.

Military Assets for DCS by Currenthill
pantasauras replied to currenthill's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Any news on the announcement you mentioned earlier this week? If its some Cold War assets I'll love you forever -
I know I'm a little late, but I had some questions about the kneeboards as well, what do the "RR" and "EFB" slots tell you? null

Hey I am having the same problem with my squadron. Any chance you could try fixing it for us? Thank you! http://logbook.ansirial.it/VirtualSquadron/332 Note: Seemed to happen after a friend tried adding their pilot character to the squadron

ADMIRAL189'S CORNER - INCOMING SHIP MODELS
pantasauras replied to Admiral189's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Are there any mods for Cold War era warships like the Spruance class or Charles F Adams class by any chance? We have such a massive gap for naval assets for stuff that precedes the Ticonderoga class for example -
F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
pantasauras replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I am not unfortunately, just simulate a VF-32 group in DCS That's really cool that you're a former Gypsy tho, if you were 94-98 does that mean you were in both A and B model? They transitioned in 97 iirc right? -
F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
pantasauras replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Hey! I got a request for any experienced skinners out there! I was wondering if I could commission someone to make some Tomcat skins for my virtual squadron I am running? If you're interested details/pay could be discussed on Discord, here is my Discord tag: j0sh#0999 -
I am extremely happy we are getting ANY Phantom, but I could die a happy man if we got an F-4J

Is there any way I could set custom spawn points on the carriers in the same manor you can set "ground" spawns with jets and helicopters and place them on flat pieces of ground? It would save so much headache with struggling to get my squad mates spawned in nice and cleanly during our missions. I'm somewhat familiar with LUA so if it is possible with that, I am open to that solution as well! thanks!

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
pantasauras replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Oh my god I love the dirty worn look. Its gorgeous, can I ask what you used for your weathering technique? I'm struggling with making it look good, especially since the F-14 has so many skin files -

untilCome Join Our Sunday Night Campaign! Every Sunday night at 9PM EST we host our campaign missions. These missions have a light story behind them, data cards to go along with each mission, and proper briefings. We try our best to maintain professionalism, teach proper procedure, and most of all have fun and work as a team during these missions. They are also persistent, if a group of units dies one mission, they will not make it to the next mission. We also utilize several scripts made by the community to enhance realism, such as the IADS Script, various Moose Scripts, and so on.

Holy god dude thats mad cool haha, those were both squadrons me and Tonk looked at but decided on emulating CVW-3 from the 60s-90s since they operated the same squadrons consistantly, hoping someday to open up a VA-75 Sunday Punchers in the A-6E once Heatblur releases it and open VA-105 once we get the A-7E, VF-32 also flew the F-8J if I remember correctly. I think I looked at AG-51 in late 2020 before I asked Tonk and a new guy in the 361st at the time, Mystic, if they would be interested in starting a group.

Hey, when I tried upscaling the textures myself I got extremely blurry stencils and paint on the default skin. Is there any chance you could release a template of the upscaled hornet for us to mess around with? Thanks!

Oh lmao sorry. Thanks!

Just encountered a glitch again. So designating targets with the FLIR pod seems to be glitched/broken atm. So I can designate a target that I know is right next to me and get correct ranging and location info, but when I go to the pod to designate the ranging and the location is all out of wack, for example, I was just on buddyspike and I designated a FARP as a target with the HMD and it said 13.9 miles away and I checked the HSI and the location of the target was as it should've been. Then I undesignated the target and reacquired it with my FLIR pod, did target designate and it says the target 130 miles out and the location was wayyy to the north in Iran. This is when the FLIR is mounted on the cheek at least, havent tested with it on centerline mount.
