Dagobert666 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Good morning. I'm currently creating a mission that starts early in the morning (about 30 minutes before sunrise). It's so dark in the cockpit that you can't see a single switch. The emergency Floodlights switch, finding it, is more luck than anything. F18c, F14b etc. all have a flashlight just for such cases. Please ED, I would be really happy if the A10c also gets a flashlight. 2
Foka Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Turn on NVG, turn on flood, turn off NVG. But yes, flashlight would be nice.
Northstar98 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 +1 definitely needed when things are pitch black outside. Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Terrains I own: South Atlantic, Syria, The Channel, SoH/PG, Marianas. System: GIGABYTE B650 AORUS ELITE AX, AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5200 32 GB, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070S FE, Western Digital Black SN850X 1 TB (DCS dedicated) & 2 TB NVMe SSDs, Corsair RM850X 850 W, NZXT H7 Flow, MSI G274CV. Peripherals: VKB Gunfighter Mk.II w. MCG Pro, MFG Crosswind V3 Graphite, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.
twistking Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 as, Foka said, NVGs help a lot, but a flashlight would be way more immersive and realistic, i guess... My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original
Chump Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Add this to the end of <DCS>\Mods\aircraft\A-10C\Input\A-10C\keyboard\default.lua or <DCS>\Mods\aircraft\A-10C_2\Input\A-10C_2\keyboard\default.lua: {down = 3256, cockpit_device_id = 0, value_down = 1.0, name = _('Flashlight'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, and then just set a key bind for it in Settings. I'm sure there are other ways to achieve this, or maybe even an OVGME mod somewhere. 2
Foka Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Add this to the end of ... Wow! It's working! Thank you good sir. And again - a feature/bug that can be added/fixed with one line of code, but ED denies us (like cockpit switches integrity)...
SJBMX Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 Add this to the end of <DCS>\Mods\aircraft\A-10C\Input\A-10C\keyboard\default.lua or <DCS>\Mods\aircraft\A-10C_2\Input\A-10C_2\keyboard\default.lua: {down = 3256, cockpit_device_id = 0, value_down = 1.0, name = _('Flashlight'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, and then just set a key bind for it in Settings. I'm sure there are other ways to achieve this, or maybe even an OVGME mod somewhere. This doesn't break IC?
Ziptie Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 We've had this in the wish list section for both A10C's now for quite some time - sadly doesn't appear to have been addressed or acknowledged by anyone at ED as of yet. I put it in the A10C wish list section over a year ago, and pretty quick when the "II" forum was created. I'll +1 the request, hopefully threads will merge and draw some attention from ED when that happens..... I find it interesting that adding that line of code is literally all it takes to get a flashlight into the A10C and will happily try that the next time I am able to devote some time to flying virtually. Greatly appreciated for providing that information @Chump ! Emmy Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 The thing is, pilots wear “finger lights” so it’s not something that’s even aircraft specific. It’s kit for every tactical pilot. Fakum Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 I created a quick OVGME file for this, and it worked great! I jumped into a server that checks IC, and it passed. Scubamurph Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 If loading in the dark connect ground power first. You will get enough lighting to see switched for floodlights and close canopy (for floods to show up everything properly).
Gruman Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Or bind a key to the Battery / Flood light switch... Or use your NODs... or blindly trying to find the key with tooltips disabled... But this was not the question... Many other modules have the flashlight enabled. Its a single line of input config and every pilot has a flashlight/fingerlight in his pilotbag.. Let us use it. I created a quick OVGME file for this, and it worked great! I jumped into a server that checks IC, and it passed. Could you share it (upload to the user files as an example) for simplicity? Fakum Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I would be happy to. I have never done that before though. How'd you figure this out?
Chump Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 The original line is found in: <DCS>\Config\Input\Aircrafts\common_keyboard_binding.lua:109 {combos = {{key = 'L', reformers = {'LAlt'}}}, down = 3256, cockpit_device_id = 0, value_down = 1.0, name = _('Flashlight'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, For some reason, this does not seem to be "common" in all aircraft. I would guess that common device ID 256 is hidden in a DLL, since I've yet to find it defined in LUA? 1
twistking Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 does it play well with NV on? (i'm not suggesting that you should use them together, but obviously noone could stop you) i assume that it was not activated for compatibility reasons... ?! Ziptie Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 does it play well with NV on? (i'm not suggesting that you should use them together, but obviously noone could stop you) i assume that it was not activated for compatibility reasons... ?! It does not have the green filter, so it is not a friendly item with NVGs enabled. As for compatibility reasons - not sure why they don’t have the flashlight enabled as stock, it’s silly and obviously it was accomplished by a member - so the people responsible for coding at ED either simply missed it, or didn’t think of it to start with. Either way, it works and that is all I care about.
