2022 is going to be huge!

Have we ever seen a year where DCS will receive such quantity and quality added to the lineup?  We can realistically expect the Apache, F-15E, F-4, South Atlantic, MB-339, maybe Kiowa, BS3, Bo-105, Corsair (maybe both F-4U and A-7?) MiG-23, new FLIR, dynamic WX, plus others I've probably overlooked.  There seems to be so much on the cards for the next 12 months.  The only downside is the sheer amount of study which will be required.  I think 2022 is going to be an amazing year for DCS, and I for one are hugely appreciative of the work going on.

Well, I'd say he's right about most of that. The only vague ones he's mentioned are the Corsair, Bo-105 and Flogger. I'd say those are pushing it for this year, but the rest? Sure, why not. I suppose we have no real idea of where Heatblur are at with the Phantom, but they seem confident.

I'd also add, hopefully, a beta version of the dynamic campaign. Although we really need a progress report on where that's at.

Perhaps the new carrier-based ATC will be rolled out, although I can't see land-based ATC making it this year.

Mirage F-1 is pretty far along as well.  More than some of those you've mentioned.

Wasnt the F15E meant to be “a few months from release” on 2016/17? 😂

Wow, I'm far less optimistic than you. But even so with the ones I expect this year, Apache, BS3, Corsair, South Atlantic, F-15E, new FLIR, Multicore and possibly Vulkan, this year will be amazing.

I was really psyched for the Apache,  but I just can't get thr hang of helicopters, I still have it on preorder, but don't know how much time I'll spend on it.

South Atlantic (which will be Norway for most of my missions) and F4U are the two big things I'm waiting for. After the latest drops of info of the F4U, I can't wait and I might go crazy as the updated made it feel like it's just weeks away, but in reality probably months and months away. I have doubts about militcore and vulcan this year. But if it happened,  as a VR user it would be fantastic.

F4U is a third-party project, but even if we got it soon, we wouldn't have WWll Marianas, IJN naval and air,

WWll allied naval & carriers, etc. It will be a great plane with no place to fly it.

Get an MS Sidewinder FFB2.

Once in a while you'll find them on Finn for about NOK500 😉

My friend, are you new here? Not even half of those things will be available at the end of this year.

The first five modules listed should be, also the FLIR and dynamic WX.  The remainder carry the caveat 'maybe'.  The MiG-23 and A-7 are pushing it admittedly.

I’d be very surprised if there is any substantial improvement on core DCS features. Dynamic WX, Dynamic Campaign, Vulcan, AI improvements, ATC etc have all been openly discussed for years, and minimal progress has been made. The unfortunate fact is time spent developing these, simply doesn’t generate any significant revenue. New modules do, so expect a few new early access releases, slower development for current modules, and even a new module or two announced by years end. In other words, more of the same. Not that that’s a bad thing.

(Sometimes I wish ED would truly rock the landscape, and charge us a one off ~$60 for DCS 3.0, with all the core improvements that have been discussed for decades and are desperately needed. ED would get their revenue, we’d all get the core sim we always wanted. Win-win. But, I digress….)

Thats a pretty optimistic view of what's coming, id say ED AH-64 BS3, other devs the F15, F4U for sure.

I have the Ah-64 on pre order but will hold off for BS3 and the F15 until I see a commitment to them finishing off EA releases and core gameplay features

Me id be happy with the above and for ED to concentrate on core features to the game and finish of what they have started which is listed below

Dynamic weather
Better AI on the ground vehicles and troops (need for the Apache and other helo ops for realistic gameplay)
Super Carrier (Released May20 2020) plenty of promises but fixed a beer belly on 1 AI...ha ha
Vulcan and better CPU implementations (promised for years)
Combined Arms VR implementation (finish it off to a playable state its so very nearly there)
Loads of existing bug fixes that have hung around for years on some modules (plenty of info on these if searched for)

Cheers

Whoa, man, you're quite the optimist. Of the OP's list, we ought to get Apache (because it has been supposedly nearly done for three months) and the F-4 (because it is from a developer that has already demonstrated the ability to release a couple of quality modules, and because it appears that they've wisely waited until they were well underway to even announce the module).

I don't have any expectation to see the F-15E, Mig-23, Vulcan, etc. for quite some time. I hope I'm wrong, as I'm a VR player and the engine badly needs updated to accomodate VR. I guess time will tell. I'm enjoying seeing everyone's guess as to what is coming and when.

If it's anything like the A-10C2, don't hold off on BS3 unless you don't have already BS2. The early deal on the C2 upgrade package was huge, a tiny fraction of the normal price. TBH, I haven't flown the C2 very much since, but sooner or later I'll get around to it, and given I ended up paying almost nothing by DCS standards, I'm willing to excuse the slow development.

Myself, I'll be happy if all that happens this year is Apache being released, multithreading going into OB, and the pandemic being done with (in Europe, at least). 🙂 Anything else is just a bonus. I'm fine with modules coming along slowly.

The only thing Im confident about are Newletters advertising sales various and at least one patch that will break something noticably.  Everythiing else I refuse to board the hype train about until it goes EA ( perhaps PO for the F4).

I know that will appear to be very negative but this is DCS and the less hype one takes on the less dissappontedt one will be. EDs refusal to be drawn into a 2022 roadmap is telling.

Stuff will happen when it happens and when it makes sense to ED and its partners. Not when I think it should happen, not when there appears to be any reason for it not to happen and cetainly not when wide speculation and second guesses say it should happen.  And, in many cases, probably not this year.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to inform some 5 year old that Father Christmas is a cruel lie and Bobby the dog did not got to live on a farm.......
