RafaPolit Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 (edited) Are the landmarks bombable? I think that mixing politics with the simulation is a tricky thing. I remember hearing in one of the streams about the upcoming Sinai map that you are not going to be able to destroy sacred Israeli landmarks. I understand the motivation, but I honestly think the reason this is also a game is precisely so we can go off-script and do unexpected things. All the "other side's" landmark are destroyable... why not simply allow anything to have a damage model? I think it would be interesting to mount an offensive to "proof the Allies superiority" against the Axis and bomb the Eifel Tower. Or, conversely, if a Jug were able to reach London and bomb the Big Ben. I don't see the need to "protect" those assets due to their "political" nature. REDEYE_CVW-66 Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 (edited) I assume it is because it is WIP; but in Stormbirds preview, I noticed that the ridge above the white cliffs of Dover had tree coverage. These were not present at the represented time (I assume they dissappeared way before). Like I said, probably will be fixed, but wanted to point it out, given that it is an iconic location. https://stormbirds.blog/2023/04/09/dcs-normandy-2-preview-part-one/#jp-carousel-58452 https://historicengland.org.uk/images-books/archive/collections/aerial-photos/record/EAW020459 Edited April 11, 2023 by REDEYE_CVW-66

Call me cynical, but purposefully keeping the detail area around where The Channel map are located lower than others, omitting landmarks, and certain airfields is an attempt to keep that module/map relevant. Having all of the development time that ED put into it washed away with the new map would hurt ED and Campaign makers to a certain extent. Having all of the development time that ED put into it washed away with the new map would hurt ED and Campaign makers to a certain extent. It's my hope that the Channel Map will eventually see expansion of it's boundaries to the East and North making the two maps more divergent in terms of operationally useful areas but gradually seeing the area where they do overlap become more similar, with the same airfields and landmarks consistent on both. It does seem odd that the Maunsell Forts: Are included on the Normandy 2 map. Why? These are only found in the Thames Estuary and in the North Sea nearby, areas that are described by Ugra as "Low Detail" in the previews. Yet, they are missing on the Channel map where these would fall within EDs own described "High Detail" boundaries. Don't get me wrong, if Ugras definition of "Low Detail" is still so comprehensive, I won't complain, but it would be nice to see more consistency between the ED & Ugra offerings. Keep in mind the low-high detail "demarcation line" as shown by the devs runs more or less through Folkestone so be happy that you're getting any Dover representation at all. Though as Fenrir pointed, Ugra guys are quite erratic about what bits and pieces they decided to throw into the low-detail area. At the same time, YT preview guys have been very diplomatic and careful not to fly too far north-east, so nobody knows what we can expect over there. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Mik75 Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 (edited) I hoped that the N2 would be released with the last update. I'm quite new to the WW2 arena in DCS, but I love flying on online servers, and some of the good ones are based on the Normandy map. As I own the Channel map, I wanted to wait for N2, and get it for the discounted price. Now it looks as if we had to wait a bit (months?) longer, and I pulled the trigger and bought the Normandy 1944 map. Maybe Murphy's law kicks in now, and the new version will release anytime soon. In that case, you'd owe me a beer, or two... Edited April 14, 2023 by Mik75 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Greets, Michael

Should have waited a bit more, the Map release should be very near as the Mission maker’s have been using pre-release versions of the Map to update their Campaigns, my bet would be a release during May. 1 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

And it's ok, because: Quote The release of the new Normandy 2 map will also be a huge and free improvement to the Normandy 1944 map. This will allow all Normandy 1944 map owners to have all of the Normandy 2 map airfields at no extra cost. Having the same 69 airfields on both maps will allow players to share the sky in online campaigns and online missions. Ugra Media has done everything possible to remove any borders between the two maps. The price of the Normandy 2 map is $59.99, but for all users of Normandy 1944 or Channel the new map will be available at a price of $14.99. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/316032-official-news-2023/?do=findComment&comment=5163689 3 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

REDEYE_CVW-66 Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 I think that Ugra calls the Channel area 'low detail' to respectfully not step on ED's toes by making the Channel map less relevant. Many of the examples I saw in the preview vids of N2's "low detail" channel area looks better to me than their Channel map version. That includes port towns, cliffs, coastline etc. There is no question that the texture work, especially on agricultural fields, forests, streams, etc (which is 95%) of the landmass- is much better done in N2, at all altitudes.
MAESTR0 Posted April 15, 2023 Author Posted April 15, 2023 (edited) Hi At all times, people made monuments to their kings, heroes, or tried to build something monumental and unusual. France and the UK are countries with a rich history, so we had to work on recreating what they did 100 or more years ago. We would like you - DCS users not only to be able to fly over the capitals of England and France, but also to be able to conduct tours of London and Paris for your friends. ---London--- Queen Victoria memorial The Victoria Memorial is a monument to Queen Victoria, located in London. Designed in 1901, it was unveiled on 16 May 1911, though it was not completed until 1924. At nearly 25 metres (82 ft) tall, the Victoria Memorial remains the tallest monument to a King or Queen in England. Richard lion Heart The statue was created by Baron Carlo Marochetti and is located in Old Palace Yard outside the Palace of Westminster, opposite Westminster Abbey in London. With its pedestal, it stands 9 metres (30 ft) high, showing King Richard I on horseback. The king is depicted wearing a crowned helmet and a chainmail shirt with a surcoat, and lifting a sword into the air. The horse paws the ground, as if preparing for a charge into battle. Marochetti described his work as being inspired by Richard I rather than accurately depicting a 12th-century knight. Nelson's Column Nelson's Column is a monument in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, Central London, built to commemorate Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson's decisive victory at the Battle of Trafalgar over the combined French and Spanish navies, during which he lost his life. The monument was constructed between 1840 and 1843. Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, built between 1886 and 1894. It crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London. The bridge is 800 feet (240 m) in length and consists of two 213-foot (65 m) bridge towers connected at the upper level by two horizontal walkways, and a central pair of bascules that can open to allow shipping. Tower Bridge has become a recognisable London landmark. Westminster Bridge is a road-and-foot-traffic bridge over the River Thames in London, linking Westminster on the west side and Lambeth on the east side. The current bridge was designed by Thomas Page and opened on 24 May 1862. With a length of 820 feet (250 m) and a width of 85 feet (26 m). ---Paris--- Statue of liberty The quarter-scale replica sits on the southern end of Île aux Cygnes, an artificial island built in the Seine in 1827 to separate river traffic from the busy port of Grenelle. The statue itself was given to the city of Paris in 1889 by the American community in Paris to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution. In characteristic American fashion, the statue was officially inaugurated on the Fourth of July. The gift was given to highlight the historically close bond between France and the United States, and reaffirm the dedication of the two nations to the republican ideal on which they were founded. la colonne Vendôme The original column was started in 1806 at Napoleon's direction and completed in 1810. It was modelled after Trajan's Column, to celebrate the victory of Austerlitz; its veneer of 425 spiralling bas-relief bronze plates was made out of cannon taken from the combined armies of Europe Its height is 44.3 m, diameter is 3.6 m. The column is helical - a strip 280 m long, with 22 turns - is overlaid with bronze from 425 bas-reliefs. Les monuments à Louis Pasteur The monument to Louis Pasteur by Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900) was installed in 1904 in Place de Breteuil by the architect Charles Girault on the site of the old tower of the artesian well in Breteuil. Do you remember the word "pasteurization"? Statue Maréchal Joffre Equestrian sculpture of Marshal Joseph Joffre by sculptor Maxime Real del Sarte and unveiled on June 10, 1939. The work is located at the end of the Champ de Mars. Pont_Alexandre_III a single-arch bridge spanning the Seine in Paris between Les Invalides and the Champs Elysees. The total length of the bridge is 160 meters (the metal arch is 107 meters), the width is about 33 meters. In order not to obscure the panorama of the Champs Elysees, the height of the structure does not exceed six meters, which at the time of its creation was considered an amazing achievement. The bridge was founded to commemorate the Franco-Russian Union by Emperor Nicholas II in October 1896 and named after his father, Emperor Alexander III. Pont Mirabeau Built in 1895-1897. The bridge is named after the French politician Honore Gabriel Mirabeau. The bridge is a three-span metal arch. The main arch of the bridge is 93.2 m long, the two side arches are 32.4 m long. The middle span is covered with three-hinged arches. The outer spans are covered with consoles resting at the ends on longitudinally movable supporting parts. The length of the bridge is 173 m, width - 20 m (of which the width of the carriageway is 12 m and two sidewalks are 4 m each). Edited April 15, 2023 by MAESTR0 17 6
