I just can't see them moving forward with the legacy engine in parallel with the new IG. At some point the old map is going away IMHO.

I was thinking the same thing. When we get EDGE and Nevada, it's going to be more than just changing theaters of war. It's going to mean 2 different sets of effects, particles, objects, lighting, sound? etc. etc.

 

They are going to have to pick 1 to move forward with I would assume. It's essentially two different sims.

There is still the possibility that EDGE will be able to render based on the data in the old map. Of course the terrain then would not take full advantage of all the features, but backwards compatibility is not unthinkable.

That's sort of how I understood it on the vague info we have right now, that the old map would work under the new engine, but wouldn't take advantage of the the advances made with the new mapping methods and IG....

Caucaus will prolly not be re-done for EDGE, but EDGE may or may not be able to render it in it's current form, it will prolly need to be adjusted and re-exported.

 

So the terrain would still look the same. Whether or not particle Effects not Tied to the actual terrain will be used, I dunno.

It"s been in development since 2011 and hardly a screen shot available? No offence but is this some kind of a joke? Surly something like a map should be ready after 2 years?

They already said the map is pretty much done, its the IG/EDGE we are waiting on now...

The map has ready, the engine to render them no.

What I would hope that is when IG goes live that they release the Nevada map along with a proper combat theatre map. Just having Nevada as the only playable map wouldn't be a great situation to be in. For anything other than training scenarios it quickly becomes a stretch of the imagination.

So, as the map is finished - why can't we have the new mod tools for the terrain? I could imagine there are talented people in this community that could start on a new map of their liking?

The Black Sea map is not going anywhere.

Even if it is rendered through the new IG (which imho it will), then the new IG will not make the map prettier. For that they would have to redo the map in the new map format (the one used by nevada), taking advatages of the new IG capabilities, which is a lot of work.

 

What we will get (if it will be rendered through the new IG) is all the other things that new IG will improve - lighting, partice effects..etc

So would I be wrong to think that they are just going to just surprise use one day and say here it is it's ready? I have seen no news by the wags on it's progress, apart from them saying the map was completed sometime ago. So what the developments time for this IG or whatever it is they are doing and why no news on this?

Because the Engine that will render it isnt finished, features, and stuff can change.

Because a finished map doesn't mean the engine is finished. ;)

 

And if the engine isn't finalized, neither are the tools.

And if the tools get updated, maybe the map can be updated as well.

 

So if one day Map + Engine + Tools are released, everything looks the best way possible to meet your expectations. Would you like to have anything less?
