  1. I don't agree that it's myopic. There is, at least there should be, a reasonable expectation of a reasonable amount of communication from the seller in exchange for the buyer parting with the cash up front. The buyer is showing confidence in the seller, as well as enjoying some satisfaction in supporting the developers, felling invested, and the whole sense of expectation thing. Personally, I enjoy a good pre-order. Patience on the part of the buyer in a pre-order scenario can be achieved by a seller with good communication skills. That has not been the case here. So a little saltiness in the voice of some of the buyers is to be expected. And if the seller can't manage good communication skills and/or can't handle a little saltiness in exchange for the up-front cash and their own PR failings, then they should not be asking for money up front. But they did, with great hype, so complaints are justified.

  3. The main problem isnt the delay. the main problem is that you make your paying customers wait while half youtube fools around with it. that does not create hype. just frustration.

  4. This just adds to the state of confusion and frustration. If you don't have a date yet, why on earth did Razbam tease a July date in the Cold Start video? That July tease is what has triggered this crap-storm. Yet here you are saying once a date is known it will be revealed. By saying there is no date, what exactly are you now suggesting? Could it be June? Could it be August? September? I guess anything goes. Regardless, this conflicting messaging is what drives everyone up a proverbial, and I guess in some instances, a literal wall. it is simply mystifying. The left hand needs to figure out what the right hand is doing and they both need to get on the same page before anything is communicated. ED has been failing at this for years. Its either done on purpose or is a result of utter incompetence. I'm not sure which would be worse.

  5. It is always surprising to me how many people seem to say stuff like "I don't understand all the complaining"; It is really very simple: Razbam: "The release is imminent!" Four months later: "We had a miscommunication. Looks like release is in July (maybe)." ED: "The Strike Eagle is coming in hot and soon you'll be able to fly...!" Two weeks later: radio silence. "We'll let you know a date when one has been determined." ^ For those who don't understand the "angst", the above is not a best practice for marketing and communication.

  6. This for me is the main sticking point in this issue. I get the marketing aspect, and I understand release time frames. But the videos that have been flooding youtube aren't just previews by a few big content creators, these have been tutorials, full on missions that are being done by almost everyone with a DCS related channel. You'd swear it was released already or will be shortly because that's typically the pattern. Then to get smacked with a 2-ish month wait, it's understandable for customers to have a WTH moment. Whether it was ED or RB that made the decision to lift the embargo this far out and/or delay it after lifting it, it's not a good look. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

  8. 1). It went on sale, people decided to pre-order it. Nobody was requested to pre-order a product. People can be dissatisfied with their purchase, but the way you've worded it here is misrepresentative. 1a). You also don't have to watch the videos. I think you should seriously consider taking a break if this is actually an issue that affects your wellbeing. 2). These sorts of videos are standard fair and have been produced for virtually every module or map DCS have sold. This point has been repeated ad naesum in these threads, even by ED themselves. The timing is unfortunate, but the existence of the videos is not the problem 3). Asking Youtubers to step away completely neglects that some of them are businesses and can't accept such a request. It's not their fault in the slightest. 4). If you find it "annoying and frustrating" multiple times, then why are you still pre-ordering things? The terms of the deal are never going to change. It will always be like this. If you are not pre-ordering things, then what is there to be annoyed about? You (like me) don't have any sunk cost here.
    7 points
  9. And add to that the fact that every YouTuber and their dog has been given a copy. "Oh, so you've preordered the Strike Eagle? Well, it's going to be a few months more before you can check it out", meanwhile at the Grim Reapers "Can a Strike Eagle kill the Red Baron while doing the Star Wars trench run?".

  10. folks be nice to each other in this thread and be sure you are aware of our forum rules at the top of the page. If you pre-ordered you received 30% discount and you get to support the team earlier, it really helps and is appreciated. If Pre-order isnt for you that is fine, early access when it starts will still have a 20% discount and you will still be supporting the team. I know some people are new to DCS and the time scales for development can come as a shock, but please try to understand the complexity of what these teams are doing. The F-15E is currently in internal testing, we have given some content creators access so they can share videos with you all, this often helps people who are not sure and want to see what they are buying into so they can make informed choices. When we are 100% sure of the early access date we will let everyone know. Thank you for your patience.

  11. Greetings, I wanted to advocate to bring the mighty KC-10A back. I flew this jet for about 9 years through major operations, fighter drags and good old cargo hauling like FEDEX. This plane was awesome and had major dual role refueling capabilities. It's one of those jets that pass through and everyone wants to get close to it. At airshows, we had the longest lines. I've been at airports world wide and airport/airline personnel wants to get close to take pictures. People are along the fence line snapping away. The plane is a very capable tanker. It's easy to refuel against with it's very large refueling envelope. The body lights will illuminate the aircraft like a baseball field. It can go from boom to drogue in seconds and has wing drogue pods along with the centerline. It's a stable platform even though you have to have some power to punch through the burble and down wash behind the tanker. Routinely B1s would be lighting up burners intermittently on one and two when transitioning the burble. Slow aircraft such as the C-130, heavy A10s and EA-6s would require a toboggan to get in because they didn't have the power to punch through, especially if the slats and flaps were needed to get slow enough to refuel them. For KC10s and other large aircraft, the 135 was notorious with their autopilot disconnecting. If you moved in too quick or popped up too quickly in the envelope, the 135's autopilot would disconnect and the tanker would descend into you. After it happens to you a couple of times, you are readily prepared to break away. The boom also has a rate disconnect that would automatically kick you off the boom if it felt your movement rate will send you past the limits. The boom also had a independent IDS nitrogen disconnect system to blast a receiver off if the normal rate and boomer initiated system failed to release the toggle latches to disconnect. The KC-10 is an iconic aircraft and I believe it would be a disservice to this jet if it's not brought back into DCS. If it was decided to bring it back, I can assist with the technical aspects and procedures we used in the aircraft. Rick

  13. So it's ok for people to watch other people play the module they've paid for, for weeks or months with no hint on when it's actually going to be released and remove all the enjoyment they could have had themselves ? The end result being "oh another f15 vid released ":* youtubers:" Is It right to ask people to pay for ea only to have to watch other people playing the product they've paid for? I think you should be asking youtubers to step away from the 15 due to the the current drama because now it really is going to be having to watch other people play the module we paid for - for literal weeks. Market in moderation - youtube access should have only been given for a limited period, because now it's just going to annoy people and this has been the case for the last 3 modules released it's getting old and quite frustrating.

  14. and still lots of YT videos comming of the F15E. It was a good idea if release was early June, but if it is 20 July, then I would say to all YT (if I was Razbam) to stop and come back in last 2 weeks before release. Hype train can be burned.

  15. I think there's room for both to be correct. Comms hasn't been handled well and this is, sadly, situation normal. Then you have all sorts of poor behaviour from a small but vocal portion of the community. The best one was the many people crying over the move of pre-order day (the opening of the window to hand over your money for nothing in return) complete with all sorts of absurd and hyperbolic comparisons. Moving the opening of pre-orders has absolutely zero impact on any of us (except for money staying slightly longer in our bank accounts) so why the drama? That's a people problem, not a comms problem.
    6 points
  16. Fair enough. You are certainly as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. And I think the "negative behaviour" as you call it, is a direct result of poor communication on the part of the sellers. Sometimes people complain for no reason, and sometimes for a reason. There is a reason this time. As for not providing any community answers, you're damn right I haven't. I'm the guy who needs and asks for help and then says thank you. Think of all the satisfaction I bring to others by letting them have those "solved a problem" thing in their forum bio. It's a tough job, but I'm up for it.

  17. What I don't get is: We bought it for "early access". This means that we will get a product, that is not done and will develop over time. Fine. That's what I get when I purchase EA. What I wonder: Why is the module good enough for YouTubers, but not good enough for the people that paid for it? Will all the videos be worthless since there are a lot of changes coming? Then why show those videos? Will there be no big changes? Then why don't deliver the module to the people supporting the project by paying early?

  18. The following module development note contains a short report on the progress of the damage model of the virtual La-7 aircraft. It should be noted that there is a widespread opinion that the La-7, unlike its wooden predecessor the La-5FN, had an all-metal construction. This is a misconception. The plane of the next series, the La-9, was clad in metal, while the seventh "benches" were still made of wood, not counting the metal elements of the internal power set. Distinctive nature of the damage to the wooden structure is reflected in the damage model of our module. The aircraft has a curious detail: it used measures to counteract the explosion of a projectile in the fuel tanks - their internal volumes were filled with engine exhaust gases, eliminating the threat of ignition of gasoline vapors. Before a combat flight, the system was activated by using the handle of the gas filling valve. In addition to detailed elaboration of the visual part of the damage model, the module, as befits every module DCS, will contain a broad list of failures and operational constraints.

  19. Sure, that's worth a small whine... but not the ridiculous lengths that I've seen some ppl go to... .you'd think Razbam had made them pay $1000's of dollars in advance or something, not LESS THAN a tank of gas, there's a limit to what's reasonable to whine about and not shockingly, the internet has once again shot right past that like it's not even a speedbump... it gets here when it gets here, if that pre-sale money was so important to some of those ppl, maybe they should reconsider their finances, and just wait until it's actually released, whenever that is.

  20. The following development module note contains a brief report on the progress in the field of damage modeling for the La-7 virtual aircraft. It should be noted that there is a conventional wisdom that the La-7, unlike its wooden predecessor, the La-5FN, had an all-metal construction. This is a misconception. The next series aircraft, the La-9, was the one that had a metal exterior, while the seventh 'Lavochka' planes were still made of wood, with the exception of the metal elements in the internal power set. The distinctive nature of the destruction to the wooden structure is reflected in our module's damage model. The aircraft has a curious detail: actions were taken to counter the explosion caused by a projectile hitting the fuel tanks. The internal volumes of the tanks were filled with engine exhaust gases, eliminating the risk of vapor ignition from gasoline. Before the combat sortie, the system was activated using the gas filling valve handle. In addition to detailed visual damage modeling, the module, as is customary for each DCS module, will include a wide range of failures and operational limitations.

  21. This exactly. On their twitter account, ED posts stuff like "The Strike Eagle is coming in hot and soon you'll be able to fly...!" (that is a direct quote), then will be like "No date is set yet. Everyone just needs to be patient. We'll let you know once there is a date." How is it "coming in hot" if no date has been set? How do they know "soon" when it is all up in the air?
    5 points
  22. First please do not use profanity here on the forum, even if it is masked, you can give feedback without it just fine. ( I have edited the profanity ) Content creators have access to the preview build and can create videos if they wish to, some may decide to wait also, it will be up to them. I understand your frustration, waiting can be tough for some people and you may not agree with the marketing, we have given the feedback to the team from many people. When we are ready to give you all a date for the early access we will, but it will depend on how the testing and preparations go, we do want to be 100% sure before giving a public date. again I appreciate you maybe frustrated and I hope once you do get your hands on the F-15E you will enjoy it. thank you

  23. I don't like the fluctuating dates being communicated to me... that is the problem. They said "imminent" when it clearly wasn't. They said "coming in hot" and "soon" when it clearly wasn't. My suggestion is to start communicating stuff like "imminent" when you have a product actually ready for early-access... as in "we could ship today if we had to, but we're going to communicate that it is coming next month and spend that time doing the over-and-above polishing." Instead what was communicated was an "imminent" release, when they clearly had no idea when it would release or even really be ready for release.

  24. I got a chuckle out of that one! I never really understood the "could a Tomcat have stopped Pearl Harbor?" or the "can one F-16 defeat 437 FW-190s?" type thing. Reminds me of an adult version of "Who would win, a Polar Bear or a Siberian Tiger?".

  25. And some people like to have an idea of what they are buying that maybe sitting on the fence considering a purchase, being able to show previews is helpful, also those who are excited to see more and more content for the F-15E will enjoy. If the content isnt something you like I totally understand, we wont be able to please everyone but we do try. thank you

  27. Personally I don’t mind the waiting for it or fact it’s been few a months. Yeah gives its more time to get finished. Truthfully what does hurt is the content creators getting access way before(Yeah I know for hype and PR bull<profanity> I get it and their lucky to be using it) but it’s that they’ll get to still use and pump out content until then. I wouldn’t mind if said access got revoked or but a stop ban on posting content for it. Just feels like salt on a wound every video I do see.

  28. I went back through some of the old Tomcat Association posts about the very topic, and only 1 jet ever put out an instrumented run @ 2.4 Mach, which was 1X (the replacement jet for the prototype that crashed). Context was a demo run for contract to prove it could hit certain numbers, but that would have been a very clean prototype jet, with all of the intake ramp positions, and without de-rated TF-30s as fleet jets later received. The prototype jets didn't even have radar or most of the production internal electronics, but rather had instrumentation collection/transmission gear for test data but quite different from the ultimate production jets. So we're talking about a much lighter, lower drag jet making those numbers, once. Anecdotes from fleet pilots, RAG instructors, Grumman pilots, and even folks at Pax River in later years was that a fleet configured A, "slick" as in no stores, was about good for 2.0 with maybe a little more room depending on how ballsy you were with fuel and getting lashes for the paint getting scorched. Most pilots that actually tried ended up in the 1.8-1.9 Mach regions before having to beeline to land. Consider fleet jets had the glove pylons on, possibly fuel tank pylons, and over time much more weight than the prototype jets. The late 90s F-14A 135-GRs we have in DCS as mentioned had more weight from the ALQ-126 jammers that were added, TCS pod, ARL-67, GPS dome and wiring for LANTIRN, and other various changes internally. The 80s ones won't be much different, maybe slightly less weight from not having ALR-67's added equipment versus the ALR-45/50 and without the GPS dome and other sundry bits needed for LANTIRN. That adds up in terms of weight and drag. And that 80s configuration still was heavier with more drag than the older block jets like -90s, and the early production jets before the engines were de-rated to prevent the compressors from coming apart(60, 65, 70 blocks). The comments about B/D jets were similar, some claiming they saw 2.0 with some room to keep going but backed off to avoid the wrath of maintainers or other repercussions. Most of those weren't fleet scenarios either, but RAG instructors or Grumman delivery/test folks on "Shakedown" flights.

  29. I am aware that there is the possibility to script AAA barrage fire with pre-selected zones to simulate AAA just blindly saturating the sky. This however only works for "Baghdad" type scenarios. It's also tedious to set up in the ME. We would need a simple "Auto Barrage" option (Force On, Off, Auto/Panic (default)), where the unit automatically targets a volume of sky in front of enemy aircrafts. Since it's targeting a volume, it would not actually need to detect the target itself. This would allow AAA to at least fire in the genral direction of enemy aircraft during nighttime. Auto Barrage "Force On" would make the unit always use this mode, maybe to simulate untrained crew, or a certain doctrine, "Off" would disable this AI routine and "Auto/Panic" would make the unit use barrage, if enemies are very near, but detection levels are too low to engage the aircraft directly.

  31. I agree, I left DCS for a while (old user...), I went back only recently and I wasn't following the scene at all.. so I've looked for the long awaited F15E right on Youtube.. I found many videos and tutorials that I was 100% sure that it was already out... soon after I've figured it wasn't ...but I got more surprised to know that it wasn't around the corner, I thought: wow, with so many videos and contents it's gonna being released "tomorrow".. but... nope! It's surely not an usual way to do marketing and legit hype, that thing seems to be owned already by the baker around the corner!

  32. I got inspired by you guys and when my G2 started to have a flickering issue on the left lense I ordered a Meta Quest Pro and tried it yesterday. I am impressed as well, also I am running the Quest Pro at the highest resolution in the oculus settings and cranked up the FSAA setting in DCS to 4. I have a RTX 4080 and though my fps are locked to 36 most of the time, it is a way smoother flying than at 45 or 90 fps which always stuttered a bit on my G2. So thanks for sharing your experiences here.

  33. Or perhaps he reads just as much as those of you averaging 2-3 posts a day but posts less, which would mean that he's perfectly well placed to judge the negative behaviour of a vocal minority? He's absolutely correct and trying to deflect that by pointing out his post count is a very poor counter argument. It would be equally valid (i.e. not at all) to say that you aren't qualified to comment on the community since you've only been here since 2019 or because you have provided zero community answers.

  35. The pre-order was nothing but a discount. Anyone that thinks otherwise didn't read what they were paying for
    4 points
  36. But that's my point - they might have had that late embargo you speak of, thinking it would release say 2 or 3 weeks after those videos. Pushing the date AFTER the videos start to come out screws that up as it's too late - the videos are in the wild and you can't stop it then.
    4 points
  37. Definitely, im not one of those saying it happened for no reason, and I'm actually happy that it's being delayed if it means the released product is better. However a later content embargo would've still been better for creators and viewers alike in my opinion.

  38. That would be a nice asset, do we know if it's operational yet? Thanks! Thank you!

  39. I’m guessing all you people asking for a date of release, have not been around DCS very long. ED and the other devs learned the hard way years ago what happens when one is given. It is not going to happen ever, they have stated as much! What ED and the others need to do is stop doing preorders, you guy are obviously ill equipped for this. This module has been on the table for over a decade, so view immanent in context..

  40. Right now, I'm pushing for June-ish. Was trying to get it out in May, but a few things require additional cleansing and tweaking. I am travelling for work right now, so available time to code is minimal.

  41. July is the current goal for RAZBAM and we share their optimism. That said, testing is dynamic and when MP testing is done many things can go wrong. We totally understand your frustration, but we are trying to give you something but managing expectations as well. Its a fine line obviously, and sorry if we have upset anyone, it is not our intent at all.
    3 points
  42. Indeed. Horrific burns during the T-28 crash, over 24hrs on the ground in enemy territory with zero pain relief and frequent enemy combatants meters away, eventually picked up by CSAR in the midst of a fierce firefight during extraction, first dose of pain relief was at a hospital well over 24hrs after suffering extensive burns that should have killed him. Told he would never fly again - he sure showed them! Not only did he just pass all testing to get back into a cockpit, he absolutely aced it! True legend.
    3 points
  43. I respectfully have to disagree. The model is very unlikely to change at this point unless some highly compelling evidence is provided. Your testing results and methodology do not meet that criteria. Any tests being hand-flown are not really acceptable as the margin for error is very high and lack of repeatability makes them somewhat useless. It seems you still haven't read this, particularly the section about testing: https://heatblur.se/fmupdate/. If you want to see how fast the plane can go at 50% fuel, why don't you just set fuel to 50% and turn on unlimited fuel?
