  1. Here is the updated version of the Swedish infantry. It took some work to find the issues causing the DCS crashes when using them, but it should be solved now. On top of that I've also made a number of fixes, additions and changes. Unfortunately I had to remove the knee stance for now due to issues with weird animations. Speaking of animations... I'm very well aware that my soldiers look like they have crapped their pants when running, I will improve that in the future. But I wanted to get the non-crashing version released asap. Swedish Infantry (Sweden) version 1.2.0 released! Changelog Version 1.2.0 Added damage model to RBS 57 missile Changed Ak 4 firing sound Changed Ak 5 firing sound Changed Pskott 86 soldier to carry two rounds Changed display name Changed maximum firing altitude for all guns Changed maximum firing range for Pskott 86 Changed soldiers maximum elevation angles Changed soldiers maximum traverse angles Changed textures Fixed Ksp 58 soldier recoil issue Fixed Ksp 58 soldier texture issue when turning Fixed Ksp 90 soldier texture issue when turning Fixed Pskott 86 SLPSGR 84 mm HEAT performance Fixed Pskott 86 sound issue Fixed animation issue with Ak 5 on the back of RBS 57 soldier Fixed issue with DCS crash to desktop Fixed issue with soldiers going into weird neck and arm positions Removed knee stance for all soldiers

  2. That graph isn't in G's, it's in degrees per second. Unfortunately, I didn't record G's back then so I'd have nothing to compare it to. Furthermore, I honestly don't care anymore. If I'm going to repeatedly see so much careless disregard from our community managers in shutting down topics without even trying to review and understand the content, I don't care. The problem was an obvious mix-up between western and eastern axis conventions in the lua file, verified by setting the largest value of inertia (yaw 85,185 kgm2) to 0 and observing the pitch response spaz out. If the numbers had been in the correct array index, zeroing out that number would have resulted in yaw spaz. Someone recorded a video step by step to verify this and prove it. It was explained carefully and meticulously across two topics, but BN and NL sat on that discussion for months, ignored the content despite posting in it several times, never viewed the footage, ignored the main question, mislabeled it 3 times, engaged with people derailing the discussion, and locked it twice. I... just don't know the words for this? Honestly, what's the point reporting, scripting, and testing anything in here if they don't care? Doesn't seem to matter if you're an engineer, if you have proof, video, milspecs, or just good reason.

  10. The Sheer amount of Light Sim and Full Fidelity sims available in the 90s, and if you extrapolate it to 2020 by growth, would eclipse even DCS's library. Outside of DCS and Falcon 4, is there any other Study/Study Light Public Consumer License Combat Flight Sims? (I'll also Include IL2). Please dont mention anything based of Microsoft ESP. Theres nothing else, in the 90s you had dozens of developers producing quality sims. in 2020 you have ED holding the Genre afloat with BMS providing the only direct partial comparitive competition. Outside of Partial Portz of Microsoft ESP via Lockheed, theres nothing else FSX/2020/2024 Simply isnt a combat sim, and the systems / flight models on even some of the pro grade aircraft are seriously lacking in depth.

  12. Yeah, the DCS embark/disembark feature. Works fine, I just had 6 Swedish infantry soldiers embark a Strf 9040C, which drove them to an ambush point where the disembarked and performed the ambush on an enemy convoy. All three vehicles (Bv 410, Strf 9040B and Strf 9040C) will carry 6 soldiers each.

  15. It was suited just fine for high texture settings in VR up until three months ago. Let's not turn what is clearly poor optimization and performance bloat into useless hardware comparisons. Throwing money and chipsets at the problem doesn't fix the problem.

  16. Here you go. You get two tracks from me. I just made a track of that issue showcasing the Viper and another track showcasing the same problem in the Hornet. Test environment was SP, Caucasus Map in MT, latest OB version. So, I want to focus your attetion on the moment when I achieve the first lock. In both modules the first lock on seems to be rather stable. Then however, due to maneuvering, when lock is briefly lost and you reacquire lock the problem starts to appear. You then lose lock every few seconds. Wierdly enough, in MP even the first lock is unstable so the behavior is definitely different for in SP/MP environment... Viper track:Viper ACM bug.trk Hornet track:Hornet ACM bug.trk 9L, I also made two very short vids also showcasing the issue so you can see what I see... Viper vid: https://youtu.be/qkf0li6ulhU Hornet vid: https://youtu.be/ogPwmDJ738A This issue is NOT fixed in the current OB. As Lord Vader said, this might be fixed internally but it certainly isn´t in our OB version. Again, a hotfix on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

  19. Petition to introduce undo+redo functionality into the DCS Mission Editor/Campaign Builder. Lacking UGC (user generated content) is the Achilles heal for most addon content in DCS, streamlining the creation process for builders should be priority. New planes and terrains are useless if there's little to do with them. Not having the bare basic functionality that designers come to expect of literally every creative suite they use (Photoshop, Illustrator, Word, Excel, Maya, 3DS Max etc all have undo/redo) is bewildering. Working many countless hours on a mission or campaign, only to accidentally move/delete an item with no option to undo is infuriating at best, and totally demotivating at worst. This community relies heavily on UGC, and fostering creators abilities to produce high quality content to give these modules new life should be paramount. It's a small change, with a potentially HUGE positive impact. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Link to my original Facebook post in Digital Combat Simulator group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DigitalCombatSimulator/permalink/6219157594876872/?comment_id=6219203378205627&notif_id=1690158631301712&notif_t=feedback_reaction_generic&ref=notif This post currently has the most comments/interactions of any content posted to that group in the last 30 days, and shows significant community support. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

  20. I still think there was more available in the 90s., I was going to mention that the Simulation Market may be a bit more accessible today, But seeing how many users have trouble getting stable performance in DCS most of the time, it's likely about the same as trying to find the right boot disk combo to run Falcon 4 w/ AWE32 and Joystick Drivers without losing all your HiMem. Titles wise, DCS Teeeechnically counts as 1 title, w/ several products... In the 90s we had at least 3 dozen different titles spread out from a dozen or so developers, (Jane's/EA, Novalogic, Microprose, MPS Labs, Dynamics, Eagle Dynamics, Spectrum Holobyte, Atari, Looking Glass, Eidos, Empire, Sublogic, Sega, Taito) Janes had a Dozen+ Titles alone, Spanning WWII to Modern, Sim Lite to Study Light, Fixed Wing, Rotary Wing USNF/MF/USNF97, ATF/NATO/ATF Gold (Eventually Fighters Anthology), Longbow I / II / Gold (Eventually Longbow Anthology), WWII Fighters, USAF, IAF, F-15, F/A-18

  22. Most of all, you have a lot more customers. In the 90s, only a handful of geeks in the wealthiest countries had a computer at home that they could use for gaming. Former Warsaw Pact countries were pretty much entirely excluded from the legitimate game market (pirates sold games there back then). Today, everyone and their mother has a computer of some sort, usually at least a laptop, unless you're in one of those countries that skipped PC and went directly to smartphones. DLCs are nothing new, only they were known as "expansions" (sometimes used today to mean a really big DLC). Many popular games got at least one. It's just that internet made them more convenient to distribute, as opposed to having to buy yet another CD. Microtransactions and lootboxes are nasty psychological tricks that have nothing to do with increase in dev costs and more with executives wanting a steady revenue stream with little ongoing cost as opposed to actually making and selling a product. Once again, those tricks were made possible everything being online these days. Multiplayer wasn't taken seriously for quite a while before it took up a life of its own.

  27. Unstable FPS means slide show . Really, we don't have London here for it to work like that (btw. over even London I have 46-58 fps without reprojection) and it is currently the most demanding city of all DCS maps. I hope that the authors will give up on adding anything new here for now and work on optimizing to double the number of FPS. The problem is buildings and big forests. Outside of this area everything works fine.

  28. I think we've already learned from the Sea Eagle that putting weapons on a jet with no ability to use them adds very little to the gameplay. And it detracts from the simulation to have so many parts of the jet painstakingly recreated only to just make up some capabilities because it would be "cool"

  31. I don't know, I'm kind of old (50+) but I love Jester as he is. Yes, I sometimes yell at him to shut the f... up, sometimes even turn the ICS volume down, but most of the times I'm happy with him and even burst into laughter of I hear, after all this time, something new. I was never part of an aircrew, but was a part of a team to spread airplane parts over a great distance, and thous did the same thing, lowered the intercom for guys that stepped on my nerves during an "training" engagement. These guys were as professional as the rest of the crew, but they did not fit my style. Long story short, there are times for some knuckleheads and there is a time to be dead serious. Since I do a lot of training flights with Jester and only rarely engage in "combat", I really enjoy the GIB, even though some of the punch lines are lost on me, for being European with it's own 80s culture (someone said time machine to go back?). I love for him to be in a light mood and hope he did not get "castrated" too much in further iterations.

  32. The keybinds that are in where those deemed most necessary for the aircraft to function with the intention of completing them before the aircraft launches out of early access, which it has yet to do. It was not a mistake and not a bug, it was intentional as the complete keybind list would need to be revisited anyway as the module changes before out of EA release. As much as the lack of the earlier F-14A and the IRIAF F-14A are not bugs, this is neither. They're just not completed yet. As was mentioned in the first reply to your post, there is a running post for requesting additional keybinds but they might not be added until closer to EA-launch, in the meantime there are other ways to add them in as mentioned above.

  33. Sorry just to add my 10p's worth, it would be preferable to have a more bland Jester during high workload moments (the distraction Jester causes during AAR is pretty unbearable when you're learning and doesn't improve with multiple listenings). I love the landing comments and pretty much all the rest of Jester, it's just those odd times you want to roll inverted at low level and hit his eject button. Anyway, cheers guys. Absolutely love this module to death.

  35. I am sure there are certainly some things very wrong with the VR code in DCS, or possibly the graphics engine in general, but it is also worth noting that it is by far not the only culprit. The worst problem of all is that modern general purpose computer architecture, like the one that a normal PC uses, and also general purpose operating systems suck phenomenally at providing predictable and consistent performance. You might ask, why? Well, for starters, there is an enormous gap between the peak performance and the base performance of the hardware. Depending on whether data is currently in one of the caches - and there are multiple caches with different performance characteristics - or just the memory, and depending on how the data is accessed, the processors can get the data very quickly or very slowly. And by "very slowly" I mean that it is not uncommon for the access to be 100 times slower than if it happened "very quickly". On top of that, add in that none of the general purpose operating systems are hard realtime capable, meaning that there is no guaranteed way to make them run your performance-critical 60 fps graphics thread exactly every 16-17 milliseconds and execute a guaranteed number of instructions to make sure that it is able to perform all calculations that it needs to do to finish a frame. All you can do is hope that things will be fast enough pretty much by coincidence. The result of that is that if you design anything for using more than roughly 1/100th of a PC's performance, you will almost certainly have latency problems every now and then, resulting in all kinds of things, from fps drops to input latency, jittery mouse movement, etc., just because the system happens to be slow right now for unpredictable and unknown reasons. And this whole story is the exact reason why it is an extremely bad idea to use those normal general purpose computers and programs to fly real aircraft, and in turn, also the reason why real world avionics systems are extremely expensive. They need predictable performance and memory consumption and hard realtime capable software. There are ways to do that, but the effort required to develop such systems is orders of magnitude beyond what's possible and affordable for a home PC running computer games.

  39. Thank you Looking Glass for publishing this campaign. IMHO this finds a great balance between immersion and insulation from DCS game breaking releases. I am only 3 missions but having a blast playing. I have played through all F/A-18 campaigns (excepting Rising Squall which i cannot stand) and this is sofar the most fun i have had; this easily compares with Rise of the Persion Lion. I look forward to playing the remainder of the missions as well as any future content. Also many thanks for tirelessly responding to the sim-gamer feedback in these forums; i play in VR so the labels make all the difference during AGM.

  43. Just tested the latest Beta 2.8.7.42538, and George is still neglecting his responsibility to trim the aircraft before handover. The fact that it works for handover from human pilots shows that if the trim *was* set it would carry across correctly. All it probably needs is a single line of code in the 'handover' logic.
