Hey Crud, RIMPAC is a great opportunity to work with ships from other nations but don't get caught out during morning or evening colors. Every country represented does colors every morning and evening and if you caught out on base. You have to stand at attention on base until there all finished. Thanks, RWC. Yes, Sebfoo I think your AV is very sensitive to downloading from the web. The mods are safe for download. PM me if you're still having issues downloading the mods. Hey Lukafred, it's good to hear you want to start creating 3d models. Unfortunately, there's no official guide. ED has a couple guides but they just show you how to setup 3ds max for modeling. 90% of what I learned was on my own and the other 10% was a few people showing me exactly how to create the mods for DCS. I learned 3DS max on my own and watched videos on YouTube and advice from others. My first recommendation is to learn how to use the Software to create the mods. Blender and 3ds Max are the top two applications used to create mods for DCS i think. If you understand how to use the software already then the first thing would be to learn how to create and texture a simple mod and import it into DCS. it can be anything. You can import a mod of a goat or just square box. Anything. I can create a sample DCS Mod file if you like. All you have to do is change the name of the mod. Once you learn to import the mods then you can learn to animate the file. I will create a sample file over the next few days and share it here with everyone in case someone else wants to learn. **ITALIAN MOD UPDATE** - Both are successfully gunning down targets in DCS. I'm still working on the FREMM mod. I will be working on the Missiles this week. One thing I've learned about using Substance Painter is the mod may look great in SP but it may look different in 3DS Max and in DCS. So it requires going back and forth until you get it right. So it's a bit more work but it's all about learning to texture mods in Substance Painter. I think I mentioned it already. There will be three versions of the FREMM Frigate. Two Italian versions one with a different bow gun and an Egyptian version. What you see To save time I will create the Andrea Doria and the Forbin together afterward because they are very similar mods. I may release them with the Cavour. Not sure yet. We'll see how it goes. So still work to do. Stay Tuned! Thanks.6 points

Personal description This mod was aborted in 2020. In November 2023, when I finished the J-8II module of the instrument panel, I started to remake the J-20A. The opportunity was the J-20C that appeared in the movie "The Wandering Earth 2" and the J-20C screen avionics content map that appeared on China Sina. With the avionics content map as a reference, I began to reproduce this screen indicator, and then began to customize the weapon system, radar and RWR system for the J-20A. J-20C《The Wandering Earth 2》 After all the work was basically completed, the state of the J-20A was that it could fly, fight and respond to missiles defensively. It was no longer the aborted J-20A that could only fly. Later, I was not satisfied with the poor ground steering function of SFM, but I had no knowledge of aerodynamics, and I didn't want to spend time learning those in depth. I could only look for open source EFM engineering projects. In the end, I used the EFM project of the F35 as a template, and changed the wingspan, wing area and chord to adjust the aerodynamic performance. In addition, radio and ils must be implemented, which are systems that cannot be implemented in the lua environment. Differences between Model A and C Model A can only conduct air-to-air and anti-radiation operations, and has no external weapons or auxiliary fuel tanks. Model C has a FLIR sensor and can attack the ground. The only laser weapon is AGM65E, and GBU12 can also be used, but the vertical downward vision capability of FLIR is too poor and it is easy to lose the target, so it is not recommended. The take-off and landing methods are conventional take-off and landing and VTOL. tips: The J-20C is dependent on the A-29B. After opening the DCS, you need to enter the cockpit of the A-29B before entering the J-20C for the first time. After 55 years of service, the Dae Han Min Guk Gong Gun (RoKAF, Republic of Korea Air Force) retired its last operational F-4E Phantoms on 7 June 2024. The retirement ceremony took place at Suwon Air Base, home of the last Phantom unit 153rd Fighter Squadron, part of the 10th Fighter Wing. Four F-4Es took to the sky for their final flight, commemorating its illustrious history within the RoKAF. The ceremony also featured several commemorative flights by F-16s, FA-50s, F-15Ks and F-35As, marking the handover of the Phantom's mission to a new generation of aircraft. The last squadron to operate the Phantom, 153rd FS will officially be disbanded on 1 September 2024. RoKAF units which have operated the various Phantom versions were 110 FS, 151 FS, 152 FS, 153 FS, 156 FS, 157 FS and 131 TRS. https://www.scramble.nl/military-news/republic-of-korea-retires-final-f-4-phantoms Credit photo: Hornet (X: @hornetysfs)5 points

Refunds? Geez, has it gotten that bad already? I just learned about all of this today and it breaks my heart. That said, even if they never release another update for it, I've gotten my money's worth from the F-15E this past year, and I wouldn't accept a refund if ED begged me to take it. There is no other company that does was ED does and if anything happened to them, it would significantly impact the quality of my life. They could send me a bucket of dog turds and I wouldn't refund it. Anyway, you realize that if you get a refund, you may not be able to get the plane back? I mean, even if development stops, it's already pretty damn good, and it'll continue working for probably quite some time, and if you refund it, and they pull it from the store, you have no Strike Eagle. Not trying to be flippant, I grew up poor and I well know what it's like not to have money, but we're not talking enough money to pay the rent with. What's the rush? Right now, it's just a possibility that you'll lose the plane. If you refund it, it's a guarantee. Food for thought I suppose. I really hope this can be resolved. I sure hope it's not hopeless.5 points

That would only be “check”. If Heatblur make the F-4E carrier compatible, then it would reduce the incentive to make a proper Naval F-4B, J, N, K or the FAA F-4K. The Naval versions have different radars, cockpit layouts, and flight models due to BLC and depending upon version selected, slats. It’s a considerable resource investment. Checkmate, would be an inability to recoup that investment because despite what people say, because when it comes time to pony up, far fewer customers would be willing pay because they already flying an F-4E off of the ship. The risk of producing Naval Phantom module is greater than a producing a different aircraft that would have a better return on investment. Nothing nefarious, it’s simple economics.. My opinion only, take it for what it’s worth. I have zero influence on Heatblur’s business plan.4 points

Problem: The AI controlled MiG-15bis has unrealistic performance. Cause: Some of the aerodynamic characteristics of the SFM exceed those of the real aircraft. If we compare the SFM data in MiG-15bis.lua to the aerodynamic data from the real technical manual for the MiG-15bis. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2365583/ Some discrepancies are apparent. For example, the DCS MIG-15Bis SFM has 200 kgf more thrust than the real MiG-15 bis at low speed. This is because the thrust values for the SFM are based on bench tests of the VK-1 Engine and not on installed thrust data. The installation losses are given in Figure 84. The manual confirms this and notes figure 80, reflects these losses. Since thrust available defines many of the performance parameters of the aircraft. It is important that the SFM thrust parameters match this data. Using the data from the technical manual, I’ve updated almost all of the SFM of the MIG-15bis to more closely match the real aircraft. Feel free to try it out, I’ve placed a link below. The mod contains extensive notes. I cite a source for almost every change I’ve made to the SFM too. Link to Mod: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19cQXcBNfOdnoJkxlY2BFdUO3Zc77KESm?usp=sharing I’ve tested and validated the performance of this mod in a few different ways too. The max velocity at various altitudes, climb rates as given in table 5 of the technical manual. The SFM also matches the level acceleration data in figures 46. Below I’ll discuss some of the changes I’ve made to the SFM to more closely match the historical data below. Almost all of the aerodynamic table was changed to better match the source data. Drag: The drag polars Cx = Cx_0 + Cy^2*B2 +Cy^4*B4 Were changed to better match figures 55 and 54. A new data point was also added at mach 0.86. Which is important because the lift and drag become nonlinear here due to mach effects. LIFT: Cy max as function of Mach was changed to match Figure 185. The current values in SFM are too high, resulting in too much lift. The SFM Cy max values are drawn below in red, The mod’s Cy max are drawn in the green line. Cy Alpha was also changed to more closely match the actual aircraft. Cy0, the zero AOA lift coefficient, was set to match the lift polar in figure 51. Aldop was set to the AOA corresponding to CY max from fig 185 and Cy alpha at that mach. AOA = ((1/Cya)*Cy+((Cy0*-1)/Cya)) Engine: Some additional changes were also made to the SFM engine model. Dpdh_m was changed to more closely match the loss of thrust as a function of altitude. Thrust Kgf At Alt = Thrust Base (Kgf)-(dpdh*(Alt m*0.001) Above, the thrust available at 5000 meters for SFM is drawn in red. The mods values are drawn in blue. At low speeds the mod more closely matches real aircraft. The mod also changes to the idle rpm and thrust specific fuel to more closely data in table 19. Roll Rate: Omxmax, the max roll rate was changed to match Figure 40: Other Changes and Notes: V_opt = 367 / 3.6, -- velocity for L/D Max, Mach .3 at 0 m =367 TAS Kph Page 24 . Setting V_opt to high means the AI does not have enough excess thrust to maneuver. causing it to only do high speed loops. V_cruise = 1.31*V_opt .Def of Vopt from translation of Russian Aircraft Design book. https://archive.org/details/DTIC_AD0741485/page/62/mode/1up g_suit = 0.0, -- This Aircraft does not have a G suit, Default is 0.35, AI will sustain 6g turns all F-86 = 0.7 -- Performance Limiting Factors of AI SFM are AI Level, Cy Max, drag, Aldop, and g_suit, Vopt CAS_min = 50, -- This is Close Air Support time on station in Minutes. How long (the AI) will LOITER TIME, WEAPON CHANGES There are also some changes to the weapons parameters. I plan on doing a separate post on these changes. One of the most impactful of these changes was changing the value Tbl.effective_fire_distance to 600m to reflect the data on the 23mm and 37mm cannon uses as presented in Table 18 in The Flying Techniques and Combat Use of the MiG-17 Which gives the effective ranges when firing at fighter aircraft as 180 to 550 Meters. The previous value was 1km and resulted in a sniper bot. There are also changes to dispersion values, shell and fillers weights. These changes were made to match the data from Soviet Manual on Aircraft projectiles. https://disk.yandex.com/i/YVj0XI6O3Mu4LM That just about covers all the changes I’ve made to the MIG-15bis SFM. While these changes are not a miracle fix for the AI or the SFM. I feel the do represent a significant improvement to the AI MIG-15bis making the AI MiG-15 a much more realistic and engaging opponent. I believe this project illustrates that significant improvement to the AI performance can be made if one takes the time to realistically tune the SFM parameters. With a spreadsheet and an understanding of the SFM parameters it’s possible to create much more realistic SFM AI opponents. Eagle Dynamic could also do a lot to improve the situation by better explaining the SFM parameters. Many of the notes in various SFM files date back over a decade and are from unofficial sources, some are misleading others are simply incorrect. If you read this far, thanks for taking the time to do so. If anyone wants it, I will share the google sheet I used to help develop this MOD. Be forewarned though, it’s a hot mess and some of the units are in …Gasp! American units of insanity. I attached a track of a big dog fight mission, sabres V Mig15's down low. I know it's need for the report. Thanks for taking them time. **Updated Mod and Link to work with DCS as of July 27, 2025 MIG 15 Big Gun Fight.trk3 points

The throttle tested OK when looking in windows joystick. After a full DCS repair, initial testing still showed the issue. Looked at key binds and the speed brake engage then had the wrong throttle button bound to it (not sure it was even a real button based on the number assigned). Changing the bind back to the proper button got me the rest of the way so I’m back in business. Thanks all for the suggestions. I’d never used the DCS repair before but will certainly keep this in mind for future issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Asking about Strapping bombs to F-15C is, in my mind, like asking about towing capacity and trunk space at the Lamborghini dealership. Also there's a special version of the F-15 that is available now that you can do all sorts of mud moving activities with. I'm looking for a big hairy no joke fighter personally. However if the radar performance on the F-15E is any indication of what a FF F-15C should able to do, the FC3 eagle's current implementation is very outdated. Which we already knew/predicted here of course. But with those big ole CFTs that eagle handles like a pig in dogfights. So we don't have a eagle currently in game, that can both dominate in BVR and dominate at the merge. Hence this thread.3 points

This is difficult to pose as a yes/no question. The thing with product development is that it depends on a lot of factors. It's not realistic to ask ED to drop everything and work purely on bug fixes. Asking for a greater focus on them is something that might make sense however. I'm not sure if it's that straight forward. People already hesitate to buy modules because of bugs. Fixing the core doesn't bring in revenue directly because it doesn't have a sales price, but it does influence DCS sales. Not to mention stuff like smart AI is easily marketable, not only by ED directly but also through DCS content generated by users.3 points

Hopefully one day we can meet your expectations. We do have some changes coming for the R family of missiles in a future update, but again for any system we can only use public data that can be verified, some data on the web has been exaggerated for whatever reason.3 points

Sorry to hear you are frustrated, but good to know you keep coming back to us. Regarding aircraft information especially for NATO, Chinese or Russian aircraft we do have to be careful about what information we use. We also have to pick aircraft the will produce a return of investment, so aircraft that will sell well, obviously we are a business that needs to make money to enable us to continue to develop. We have the MiG-29A in development so that is something to look forward to, and hopefully more Redfor aircraft in the future. Regarding bug fixes, we fix bugs every patch, you can see that in our change logs, I think some people forget we are not a huge company, we are a small studio and our team are always working as hard as they can. I know some bugs are around for longer than others, our project managers priorities may not always align with what you or I would like to have fixed, but we do get to as many as we can. thank you3 points

I think it would be really cool and fun if we had the option to plop the F-4E onto an aircraft carrier and the catapult could work, even with no animations. Probably wouldn't work with the super carrier but who cares. Before people come in here with "it's not realistic" etc, don't bother I don't care. Facts: The Navy variant of the Heatblur Phantom is YEARS away Naval aviation is the coolest and most badass form of aviation The F-4E Phantom II for DCS World by Heatblur is amazing and I want to fly it off the Forrestal. This would not diminish from the realism or depth of the simulation in any way because mission makers could just not put it onto an aircraft carrier and nobody would even know. Thanks for coming to my thread. Heatblur, please consider this. I know it sounds like a joke but it really isn't2 points

**** BROKEN MODS DUE TO RECENT ED UPDATE **** Good Evening everyone. ED's Latest update has broken a few CH and my mods. CH is working hard to solve this issue. I just noticed it yesterday. I did more testing today only to find that at least four of my mod-declared missile scripts are broken. The LCS Class USS Independence missiles are broken as well but it hasn't been released yet. When the missile launches they fly all over the place and into the water. It appears to be certain declared missiles though. There's always something. Always. The mods that are broken are Admiral Ushakov, the USS Constellation, FREMM Class Frigate which hasn't been released yet, and the USS Oak Hill. So far these are the only mods that I've tested. ---- With all that said I will not release any new mods until this issue has been resolved. I will however release the Comandanti Class Frigate as it doesn't have any missile launchers. Just another day in the office. I'm off to work trying to resolve the known issues. Just wanted to keep you all updated. Thanks.2 points

Thank you for the feedback I checked in a simple mission, saving succeded if there is a Tu-22 with any of the RN-bombs in the mission, and if there are two at the same time, too. In any case, these bombs are intended primarily for fighters and will be replaced in subsequent updates with special ammunition from the native Tu-22 arsenal.2 points

This is intended behavior as the intermediate position would otherwise result in the frequency 220.00, which is outside of the supported range. So the knob "blocks". You first have to move the third knob to 5, then you can move the second down to 2. In general, prefer setting the frequency from right to left.2 points

Bumping this up as this is pretty annoying when you have a flight lead that is a separate AI unit and his altitude is always inconsistent with what is briefed / seen in your cockpit.2 points

It may be “three lines in a text file”, but that change still needs HB to validate and quality check before publishing in an update . That all requires time & money to complete; IMO, HB has better uses for those resources right now. Perhaps when the DMAS block F-4E is out and the bugs are sorted they can build, test and publish carrier capability. Far as “silly and dumb” goes this is a video game- not a documentary2 points

Hi all, we have tried LuaJIT but DCS does not work with LuaJIT out of the box and requires heavy debugging and an unknown number of fixes, It also messes with the function of some 3rd party modules. At this stage it would be a lot of work to change, so for now it is not planned. thank you2 points

Ok. I opted for the Crystal Light w/local dimming, Lighthouse tracking faceplate and no controllers. (I already have lighthouses and controllers from the Index). I also added the DMAS earphones for an extra charge. My initial impressions are positive. I have much better clarity and visuals, and with the Quad Views, and a few tweaks I picked-up from Tallymouse 's latest video, I've even managed a small performance boost. I'm running DCS with settings pretty maxed out, and both my GPU & CPU frametimes are in the mid to high teens on average with bumps into the 20's on those "unoptimised" spots all maps seem to have down in the weeds. The only downside for me so far is that it is not as comfortable as my Index was, but I'm working on that.2 points
