Hi, it's time to introduce the complete team here in this thread. Vietnam War Vessels is not really a single person effort! Here's the team in alphabetical order: Beldin: Hello, I've played computer games basically since they were invented. Aviation and military history enthusiast. Long time Recording Engineer going back to the analog tape days. I started modding games for personal use back in the early 2000s. DCS is the first game where I've attempt to share my efforts with the community. Citizen: Hi, I'm Citizen! I've been an avid flightsimmer since I was very young. My first game was Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0 for the Macintosh, and it was A-10 Attack! by Parsoft that fully cemented my love of the genre. Like many others, I'm also a fan of the Operation Flashpoint/ARMA series, and I keenly remember being annoyed at so many servers transitioning to some weird zombie mod. For better or worse, DCS is the high water mark for military flight simulation, and I'm glad to be a very small part of pushing the genre forward. Hawkeye60: I am a 3D modeler, Astronomer, Master gardener: I won the silver plate award at the USA Topsfield Fair, Engineer, Tech addict, Amateur Musician, Flight sim addict! Been flying sims since 1986 on a Apple 2E Sublogic! Bought every sim since! Eagle Dynamics has been taking my money, and been a member of the DCS community since 2016 but flying it since 2020. Started modeling back im 2017 with Markindel, Crazyeddie and Stonehouse, the best of times. Odyseus: Hello, my name is Odyseus. I love all things military. I've started modding back in 2003. I had zero experience but I really wanted to learn. So I joined multiple projects in the ARMA 3 community. I ve been playing video game since I was a little kid and I always like a passion for simulator. Now I've the opportunity to bring some of my work to DCS by helping with the Vietnam War Vessels mod. Petr005: I'm a hobby 3d modeler and I've been involved in multiple projects: RHS for Arma 3 and up, various Squad mods and the infamous Burning Lands Vietnam. I find the Vietnam War period interesting as a modeler and look forward to contribute to the Vietnam War Vessels mod. seabat: They taught me how to march down the middle of a street when there was perfectly good sidewalks. They said "did you see the bats in the cargo hold?" I had not so I went to look. Never saw them but as I actually went to see bats the name stuck. Learning how to do liveries for DCS Modules now. Spino: Hi, Spino here! I got into flight simming about ten years ago with the Microsoft Flight Simulator series. My first combat sim was CFS3, which really got me hooked on combat aircraft simulation. About five years ago I discovered DCS, fell in love with it, and never looked back since. TeTeT: I'm TeTeT, a long term DCS and Arma 3 player. I started modding with Arma 3 and expanded late 2023 into DCS. I've been interested in the Vietnam War since a long time, played various boardgames like VG Vietnam, Downtown, Silver Bayonet, Platoon back in the day. Since 2014 I joined the Arma3 Unsung Vietnam War mod team and now run Vietnam War Vessels for DCS. We're building and rigging assets for the Vietnam War era and focus on AI assets. toan: I'm an aeronautics enthusiast and I have been using DCS since 2020. Because I'm also a pilot and amateur sailor, I'm quite addicted with DCS naval assets and naval aviation, testing large carrier groups battles, and enjoy testing multiple ships, aircraft and weapons. Whiplash: I'm Pedro a.k.a "Whiplash" from the beautiful country of Portugal. I'm a modder and one of the developers behind the S.O.G. Prairie Fire and Spearhead 1944 DLCs for Arma 3. I am deeply passionate about gaming, particularly within the Mil-Sim and Flight-Sim genres and everything Vietnam War related.7 points

Hey CrazyEddie, that sounds about right. I know in some cases there some goods we couldn't get until we pulled into port. Also, if it's a major casualty part they would fly someone out to fix it. The good ole days. Your welcome Goa_Escorpion. Thanks, Tromp, today I will get my spinal cord stimulator turned back on. So I'm hoping for some relief afterward. I'm preparing the Italian Comandati Class Vessel for release. Stay Tuned. https://i.postimg.cc/kGMdYcLd/Digital-Combat-Simulator-Black-Shark-Screenshot-2024-05-15-20-54-41-34.png5 points

I am sorry if you perceived my message as calling you incompetent, that was definitely not my intention. More that I cant start looking at the code with "okay, Jester becomes saturated with too many targets", cause this is not how it works on the technical side. Jester can handle 2 million targets simultanously without any problem, he is a computer. If you say there is an issue, then there is an issue, I believe you. If you can provide a quick track file, then we can investigate the issue and likely spot the bug very quickly. Without track, if I am trying to replicate what you are describing, chances are quite high the issue might not occur because I probably misinterpret your description or the description perhaps misses a step that you thought is perhaps irrelevant to the bug. For example, perhaps the issue is related to the mission having wind. Or only happens on a certain map, or only around a certain airfield with a certain magnetic deviation. Or because you placed the AWACS with Jammer behavior enabled. Essentially, based on previous experience with bug hunting, going after something like that without track has very low chances of replicating the issue. It also just makes the developers life a bit easier, as we are then able to replay the exact situation after each code-edit to see whether it got fixed. So it would be highly appreciated if you can share one, or perhaps at least your mission file5 points

Khaellito I hope you like my screenshots , only used the DCS in-game filters (they are amazing). 1. Recreation of the Top Gun Maverick scene (best movie ever). I used the Top Gun and the Raven One campaign skins. Blue trainig missiles, over Nevada. 2. Aerial refueling with the squad. Pilot looks at the sunset in a quiet moment and thinks about how cool he is. 3. Hornets chase a SU-33. Suddenly the pilot drops flares and performs a cobra maneuver. Tensions are high on this afternoon. 4. Full moon, VAMPIRE skin, red lights that look like blood. Scary! 5. Neon lights and afterburner rings. What more do you need? 6. I like this picture because it shows the size of the Hornet. Do you love or hate asymmetrical (Double Ugly) loadouts? 7. Canadian fighter jet intercepts a Russian bomber flying in international airspace. 8. MQ-9 Reaper drone fires an Air-to-Ground Hellfire over Afghanistan. 9. Which era do you like the most? DCS has them all!4 points

I have seen on the Apache, the Gazelle and the Mi-24, the windscreen wipers actually wipe off the rain. And it looks cool and it's very immersive. Unfortunately, the Mi-8 and the Huey don't have that at the moment. The wipers work, but the rain stays on the windscreen. Will this be available for the Mi-8 and Huey soon? Could you please forward this as a question to the team? That would be very kind.3 points

For the super carrier and associated surface warships, can ED add flares and chaff? I know that CIWS is used on some ships to shoot down hostile threads but they do not use chaff or flares to spoof ASW missiles. Mike Force Team3 points

A track file is a diagnostic tool, it lets the devs see what’s going on behind the scenes in the sim. They werent designed as a replay tool, that’s why they de-sync over time. Nobody is calling you names.3 points

Not very prone to VRS. We'll see how DCS models that. Can absolutely get into it just like in any other helicopter, especially when heavy, but we generally don't put ourselves into a flight profile that would incur Settling With Power or VRS. If you do experience it, however, just remember that to escape Settling With Power or VRS in a Chinook requires lateral cyclic or pedal. Absolutely do not try forward cyclic like a normal helicopter or you will die. @sirrah, I understand the desire for a challenge when flying a virtual aircraft. However, us IRL 47 Pilots are very grateful that she is so easy to fly.... Makes doing our jobs much easier! And yes, turn the AFCS off. Probably one of the most challenging helicopters in the world to fly with that off. Nothing makes sense.3 points

A little bit of a progress report. Missions 3 and 4 are both written and in various stages of testing. Mission 3: @Wulf103 and I flew M3 over the weekend and uncovered a handful of tweaks I want to make before making available. Those were made and await testing. Given our flight schedules, I'd say this should be uploaded over this coming weekend. Note, ED doesn't approve file submissions over the weekend, so it won't likely be available until early next week. Mission 4: This awaits testing - all logic is in place as well as all radio voiceovers. If the stars align, the team and I will have a chance to fly this weekend as a test. I've flown a handful of times solo. Mission 5: Skeleton mission created and being debugged. No voiceovers at this point. Mission 6-8: Rough storyboards discussed. We feel like we can wrap the campaign in 8 missions. Also, I added an answer regarding Reloading Missions to the FAQ3 points

Hello, here is an interesting video about how the Su34 crew communicates with a ground or air controller after a Patriot site launches on them. It pretty cool to see, also because the Patriot is guided via datalink and the crew gets no RWR warning: https://youtu.be/sZhyeUa8pF4?si=ufDLDK2QBXKvr0Nj2 points

Today in our Progress Update: Pimax Play 1.25 available for download Demo of the upcoming upscaling mode (with FPS benchmarks) 12K, wide-FOV lenses, and other product update video Pimax Progress Updates is our bi-weekly column in which we share important bits for Pimaxians. For questions or comments, reach out to a Pimax representative on [Discord](https://pimax.com/discord), or contact us via our [support page](https://pimax.com/pages/support-center). Pimax Play 1.25 available for download Version 1.25.01 is available for download here: It will be pushed to Pimax Play clients later. Improvements and new features: Controller Vibration Adjustment: Added the ability to customize controller vibration settings. Memory Management Optimization: Resolved memory leaks occurring in specific scenarios to improve overall performance and reliability. Third-Party Tracker Battery Display: Introduced battery level display for third-party trackers, allowing users to monitor power levels easily. Headset Tracking Algorithm Optimization for Crystal Light: Improved accuracy in low-light conditions. Enhanced tracking accuracy after headset restart. Controller Algorithm Optimization for Crystal Light: Fixed issues with controller drift when stationary. Enhanced overall stability of controller tracking. Upcoming upscaling mode (with FPS benchmarks) The upcoming upscaling mode in Pimax Play uses an algorithm to add pixels and detail to an image, making it sharper and clearer. It's much more effective than simply resizing low resolution. This greatly helps low and mid-end GPUs to enjoy the great visuals of the Pimax Crystal Light. We can upscale, for instance, a 2160x2160 resolution per eye (the resolution of the HP Reverb G2) to 2880x2880 per eye (the native resolution of the Pimax Crystal Light). The algorithm helps create a much better image than if the visuals were simply resized. Visual illustration: Video with benchmarks Please note: We are benchmarking the Frame Rate Per Second (FPS), both in Kayak VR and VRChat. The desktop view is not affected by upscaling, only the visuals inside the headset. The FPS benchmarks are inside the video. The plugin is still being optimized. The GPU used in the test is an RTX 3080. Basically what we get is: * 2160x 2160 without upscale (Frame rates ️️️️️, visuals ️️) * 2880 x 2880 without upscale (Frame rate ️️, visuals ️️️️️) * 2160x2160 to 2880 x 2880 with upscale (Frame rate ️️️️, visuals ️️️️) Check the videos above to see the difference. Under the same scenario, Upscale Mode reduces GPU utilization and increases the frame rate by approximately 25%. "It's true - you paid a discount rate for an unfinished product, and that's exactly what you got." There was a time that I would have had no problems with your response. But seeing that I have several unfinished modules of more than 5 or 6 years........Well. ED has a reputation. It's well earned. I don't see why this terrain will improve much over time. ED sometimes doesn't finish it's products.2 points

Stability. Sparkly additions to be sensibly and thoroughly tested. Long before release. Updates to be sensibly and thoroughly tested. Too many breakages are a direct consequence of updating. Campaign and mission creators can spend as long as they like creating and testing when an update to the way the system works often renders their work next to useless. A dedication to acknowledge bug reporting. A better approach and consideration for Modders. Lay out sensible foundations and guidelines, a framework for them to work in. Again, they can spend a lot of time and put a lot of effort into making things that make everybodys DCS World that much better. They’re doing you (ED) a favour as well as they do for us. Help em out with it. Give me access to an enormously healthy bank account, the best medical attention and the finest wines known to mankind. Give us all World peace and grant me patience, but hurry up about it.2 points

The AI Doesn't have those limitations, so the AI can have them, along with AGM-65, AIM-9s on the outboards, etc. At present, my plan is to have: - F-5C Skoshi Tiger (AI ONLY) *Adds the Bullpups, restricts the AIM-9s to earlier models, adds tank and AAR Skoshi Left Side Probe. - F-5E Export Tiger (AI ONLY) *Adds AGM-65E Singles to IN/OUT Board Stations, a few other items, and AAR Export Right Side Probe - F-5E Modded Tiger (PLYER AIRCRAFT) * Adds the Wingtip FuelTanks, Antennae and AAR Probes etc. *(All Cosmetic)*, - F-5E FC Modded Tiger (PLAYER AIRCRAFT) * Adds the Wingtip FuelTanks, Antennae and AAR Probes etc to the FC. *(All Cosmetic)* That way there's no modding of the core F-5E Files. There's also the issue where I have to integrate new new Aircraft Property, to switch the AAR Coordinates between left/right. Right now I have F-5E Export and F-5C Skoshi flyable to test things, but will change before I release, as the F-5C external model has clipping issues w/ the cockpit, and until I fully script the addon systems, the extra weapons will not work, *(AGMs, AIMs on Outboard, AAR Fuel Transfer, WingTip Fuel Transfer, etc).2 points

@Seaside Your skins do not work correctly with this new Liberator edm I may have changed the names of the textures to prevent conflicts I have not had time to look into this I will look at the livery lua for issues with this other mod And, I have a spit with Normandy textures. @virgo47, I need to look into enabling NS430 support from DCS-COINS. I see DCS-BIOS configuration to pair specific aircraft with NS430. On another note, I have discovered that the latest DCS-BIOS had signicant code change in its Lua script, which will require adjustments to the DCS-COINS setup program. So, this will involve more than a repack...2 points

Wow. All Zabuzard did was ask for a track file which are insanely easy to save and upload(save track button on the mission results screen). The track file shows what is actually going on under the hood, your play by play, no matter how detailed you think it is, will never be able to show any of that.2 points

"What do I want to see in DCS" Having a relevant plane inventory for the map and "ITS" time period. And to stop making modern maps where nothing has happened since the mid-70s. i.e. Sinai... What drives this is everyone's nearsightedness.... having to have the latest airplane.. the latest controllers... Powerhouse computers to run VR, triple screens..... You would buy a hanger queen under the pretext of supporting a developer for further DLC'Ss. You can tell by reading their Signature at the bottom of the post. And Dubai doesn't look anything like it did when I was last docked at Jebel Ali and traveled into Dubai in Sept.95... But at 30,000 ft who gives a rodent's arse what's down at ground level... well, Mudmovers care...... When you go to do a Six-Day War attack in Egypt, 2023 Cairo isn't the same as 1967 Cairo, Egypt. Or Yom Kippur in 1973, this is the last big battle in the Sinai.. most everything else on a large scale, that took place with Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and now Gaza and HAMAS... DCS makes some great models, but giving us a realistic battle space to exercise those models is its greatest downfall, and why I guard my money jealously when it comes to modules. If it doesn't change (improve) the form, fit, or function of a time period map, I won't buy it. It's a WASTE of funds. For WWII, there is no map for the I-16, or Lavochikin... total waste of money... Marianas Is. is the only map with dual purposes WWII and modern-day maps.. Not a lot has happened in the Pacific since WWII, but I digress again into a soft rant... I'm cringing thinking if we get a Korean Peninsula map, Seoul will be modern... and say a prayer for N/S Vietnam... JM2CW Hoss2 points

For me, I would wish for a more user-friendly Mission Editor. As much as I would love to have more toys to play with such as map of Korea, and a bunch of Korean War era planes to fly, an improved ME is, by far, the most significant thing I can think of to ask for. In particular, the ability to zoom into a 3D environment when placing objects onto the map. That one feature alone would save any serious mission builder HOURS and HOURS of tedium in their quest to churn out worthwhile entertainment for the rest of us!! Improvements to the mission builder's ability to shape the weather environment we fly in, specifically to get away from a totally homogenous condition of wind, clouds, precipitation, etc. I could go on and on but I think that ED has the gist of what I'm getting at.2 points

It would be nice to have something come from bug reports. I don't mind bugs and problems in early access, that's to be expected. What I do mind is being treated that way when I take the time out of my day, and the days of other people who help me make those multiplayer related bug reports, reproducing them and posting them here with detailed steps on how to reproduce them and uploading tracks. And after all that, nothing is done, no acknowledgement is given, no communication, no updates, just nothing at all. Those people I do those bug reports with feel increasingly frustrated and more unwilling to do it, because they get the feeling that nothing comes of it. And if they get that feeling then something is wrong because either a) Really nothing comes of it, or b) That something comes of it, but it isn't communicated properly and both of those things are issues that should be fixed. I don't know which it is, so I will assume the latter to give the benefit of the doubt. I have posted well over at least 50 bug reports, some recent, some a long time ago, and recently just a single reply from the forum- or DCS staff. I have paid a lot of money, I am taking my time to report bugs, because I want the module to be as good as it can be, and I get ignored. I feel like I'm wasting my time, working for you, for free. I admit that a good portion of those are minor details, not important or often used, but as a big fan I want every detail to be accurate and working. Other bugs are indeed more concerning and relevant to major elements of the aircraft. Some are duplicates, but that can't be helped if a forum is used to keep track of bugs and people using different words to describe things so it can't always be found via search. Furthermore, once a thread had been looked over and marked as "Needs track replay", "needs more information", or "Investigating", it seems like no one every checks on it after a track or more information has been provided ever again. No updates are being made from "reported", if it ever gets to that, to "fixed", except for a select few, very major bugs. On one occasion I was reporting a bug, with video evidence of it, showing it and giving detailed steps on how to reproduce that bug. I have since talked to at least 5 other people who experience that very same bug while no one I asked claim that they did not have that same bug. For me and every one of them the bug comes about by literally pressing 2 buttons in the cockpit and nothing else. Yet claims are made that this can't be reproduced. I did not have a track file at the time but it was requested. The thread was marked as "Investigating". 3 days later the track was provided, showing the bug. In 6 months since then, not a single download of those track files has been made, nor was there any further comment, and nor was the bug actually fixed since then. I don't know if I'm crazy or something, but to me it seems that asking for something, then being given the thing and then ignoring it for half a year seems just a little absolutely rude to me. Since this had been "investigated", this bug is still present half a year later. Granted it's a small inconvenience, and nothing game breaking, but all the same it's disappointing and most of all I feel like I'm being treated like a moron, and as a result, of course I get a little grumpy and frustrated at times and less faithful that my bug reports actually are taken seriously at all. I don't think that's how you should treat your customers who, mind you, are paying for your product. The least you could do is show some appreciation. I feel this should be addressed and improved. To improve the situation I would like bug reports to be updated once their status changes, not just on the initial reading of the report more efforts be made to merge the reports of the same bugs A notification be given if a report has been read and/or confirmed/reproduced A list of known bugs be published and kept up to date, such that the list be easily checked before posting a report, possibly with status updates such as "fixed for next release", until a proper bug tracker is implemented Be revisited once more information/tracks are provided Be acknowledged again once said information/track was provided Be appreciated more I understand that DCS is a large project and that the forums are big and several bug reports for all different modules come in and that not everything can be taken care of right away, that certain things need to take priority over others. But on the other hand, asking for a track and then no downloads or replies in 6 months, or no comments after several weeks is just not explainable by that. There are several people that are paid to manage the forum. And If i can take my evening to look through the bug report sections of a few aircraft and check for new posts, then so can they. Keeping track of bugs with a forum is generally just horrendously inefficient. Personally, I think a new, streamlined bug tracker system should be put in place to link bug reports and software development closer together, such that when the team finishes working on a bug, the bug tracker is updated for everyone to see, including your customers, allowing the simple merging of reports. There are plenty of good, open source bug trackers out there that will do the job just fine. Integrating them of course would take a week or two, but version control and a good bug tracker will make development a lot easier and more streamlined. Taking issues seriously and being appreciative of the community creates a better environment for everybody involved. People feeling like "Writing bug reports is pointless because they're ignored anyway", and that is a quote from some people I asked before to help me report bugs, must be a red flag. The very fact that they think this way lies in how they perceive the efforts being made here. This must be addressed if you want your community to stay engaged with the product you are trying to sell. We're all enthusiasts in a niece hobby, we're passionate about military aircraft and we're passionate about details. Neglecting those that raise issues with either the product itself or with how things are handled generally will create a toxic environment where everybody is frustrated. I don't want that. What I want is an open discourse with an open company that can be both proud of it's achievements while also admitting to it's faults and failures and that is open to suggestions to improve and criticism. Sorry for the rant.2 points
