  1. Hi! We continue working on Normandy 2.0. The main goal of the current update is optimization. Adhering to the strategy "Never stop improving" along with optimization, we made local improvements to objects and something new. We added three airfields: Eastchurch, Headcorn and Hawkinge. And three original objects: Basilica of the Sacre Coeur, Palace of Versailles and Hampton Court Palace. Now there will be places where you can start your career in the training center or complete a mission as part of a squadron. Fly, explore and conquer List of changes in Normandy: - Optimization of building and structure models. - Optimization of scenes. - Improved scene of the bridge near the Palace of Westminster. - Improved model of Notre-Dame de Paris. - Added airfields Eastchurch, Headcorn and Hawkinge. - Added three original objects: Basilica Sacré Coeur, Palace of Versailles and Hampton Court Palace. - Added tall flags at forts and major cities. - Fixed errors in airfields with the same callsign. - Fixed errors in terrain, vectordata and scenes. Headcorn Hawkinge Palace of Versailles Hampton Court Palace

  2. Hello, Everyone. I'm sorry I've been absent, but I had another back procedure last week that took a toll on my back. It's called a Discogram. I honestly think it made my condition worse but they found more issues with the discs in my spine. I can possibly see back surgery in the near future. I'm still recovering from that procedure. As soon as I feel better I will release the Italian Mod pack. Thank you all for your patience. Admiral189

  3. Hi Fighters We continue to introduce you to the upcoming map update, work on which is in full swing. First of all, we want to thank you for your feedback: Thank you for this! We are glad that you liked the idea and the new functionality of the map. The Ugra-Media team is making every effort to make the map even more interesting and continues to take into account the opinions and requests of DCS users. Recently, we expanded the functionality of the map, you asked to add new locations and we did it. Now you have even more opportunities for new flights and missions. Let's take a look at one of the new features: Hatzor is an Israeli military base built in 1942 for the British Royal Air Force (hello Normandy 2.0). The Combined Operations Center for the US military and Israel is located here. It is interesting that the base has simulators for training F-15 and F-16 pilots and the 420th Squadron or "Fighter Aircraft Simulator Squadron" is stationed here - these guys understand us better than anyone. something new

  6. See, this is the line I have issue with. I'm assuming ED have a pool of terrain content talent. I'm sure there is more than a little cross-over of skills between the Iraq, Afghan, Central Germany, etc. teams and the fact that there are (at least) two 'teams' is only due to ED wanting it that way. I think people are questioning the wisdom of having many teams working on parallel development, rather than one well-managed team focusing on one product at a time. We hear the same about the aircraft models too. I know an SME on one particular platform's systems might be no use on another, but the coding guys, texture artists, etc are surely all transferable, it's just a matter of allocating them to the right places. It's easy to criticise, I know, but It seems from the outside, ED have too many plates spinning, and some of them are starting to fall. I hope I'm wrong and when released Iraq is amazing and vindicates ED and the poorly received launch of Afghanistan, at which point I will be happy to buy it. But right now, it sounds like I am not alone in having reservations.

  7. This map has great potential to recreate the famous Air battles, deep strikes and naval strikes of the Iran-Iraq war. TFB.4 Dezful TFB.5 Omidihyeh TFB.6 Busher Would all be in the detailed areas of the map(s). Esfahan as an important base is only in the low res area, maybe a simplified version might be possible? But even just TFBs 4, 5 and 6 would add a whole new dimension for the map and provide a natural playground for the F-4, F-5 and F-14. Please consider adding these. Thanks.

  8. Thanks for pointing on those mods. I know & use them, but both are a stop-gap solutions 1) it's a mod of core-files and will fail at servers with strict script-enforcement. Not a big problem right now, but ... A modification by the gamma-table alone gets rid of that GREEN. I gladly pay that price on Normandy 2, but it still results in a somewhat strange colour composition. Anyhow, it's my day-by-day option and I'm glad we have it. 2) Barteks Vivid Normandy changed the gamma and according to that a lot of textures. Sadly a core-mod, too, with a much more convincing result imho. Sadly modified textures are excluded on many / most servers. So only single-player only for this mod at the moment. First choice when playing solo-campaigns. But only thanks to fine add-ons by Morpheus Bartek's mod remained usable after the last map-update. Now another change is coming up - good news and very welcome. Now again Bartek and / or Morpheus have to cure that GREEN ... I prefer a permanent solution by Ugra. Looking at that GREEN while developing must hurt them, too.

  9. I have spent maybe 80% of my time with the UH-1 and maybe 20% trying to land the F-18 on the carrier all in VR. On a whim with the last sale, I bought several warbirds and some campaigns. Yesterday I played mission 2 of a BF109 campaign. Stunning, absolutely beautiful. My guess was 30 or more B-17's, at least that many P-51s and then our two wings of BF-109's. The high altitude vapor trails and all the twisting/turning from the dog fighting was just spectacular. DCS was absolutely eye candy. Congrats on your achievement ED. 10. @MAESTR0 Regarding the palaces, thank you and the team for their inclusion and the clearly meticulous attention to detail to model them so comprehensively. However… Yet again and somehow incomprehensibly the airfields - those areas of the terrain any player will spend most of their time in sim closest to - do not share this same level of attention. There are multiple issues with both the airbases shown, issues I find frankly incomprehensible, since clearly some level of research has been done to determine a reasonably accurate layout. Yet, as before and as has been pointed out by me repeatedly on numerous other airfields, some fundamental errors repeatedly appear because someone either hasn’t gone far enough with their research, or simply can’t be bothered and has made up something that they think will look cool. This, despite exhaustive research by members of the community, who have spent many many hours finding, collating and presenting evidence here in efforts to assist your team in getting it right. And that is all we want; an WW2 environment that is as dedicated to authenticity as the aircraft we fly in it. And it should not be that hard. You have most of the assets required to get the majority of the airfields to a reasonably accurate standard of representation. What befuddles me is that someone spends time hand placing and inventing all these building arrangements when that same amount of time (or even less) could be used to place accurate buildings in authentic locations. I have offered you and your team my time and expertise to consult on this matter of airfield authenticity - completely free of charge I might add - and indeed have presented my findings with potential issues countless times and am repeatedly ignored. As it stands this map is a cartoon, a pastiche of history, which is a pity, because it could be a viable attempt at historical simulation.

  11. What also worries me is some of the assest in the game are so old… they look completely outdated which is a big no no. Why not bring all these models up to date first over the whole sim. Even the FC3 planes and the SU25(T) are so out of shape (;)) you would think let’s go and put some effort in that. Same goes for weapons and missiles. Put a whole team on that and at least you get an even playfield again looking at model quality et cetera. Im not even gonna talk about ATC, bugs, Vulkan, dynamic campaign and all other sorts of quality of life stuff. DCS is at a point where it looks like ED wants to pump out as many as new thingies as possible but the craplist grows and grows and is dragging everything down. I think it’s called technical debt but I’m no programmer… Come on ED I have pumped enough money into your business for years and years where we can say time for a big clean up

  12. +1, I'd also love to see some Iranian bases on the map. So much historical potential for mission makers...

  13. I don't buy the performance argument. Syria has 51 airfields iirc, so many more than what is planned for this map. And as you see, just leave out the shiny eye candy International airports - they serve less purpose than these important military bases, imho.

  17. After Kola and Afghanistan I'll need more assurance Im not buying a map full of airfields surrounded low res tundras and jelly mould hills I'm afraid. Sales patter such as "A new level of terrain detail and accuracy" only serve to make me think "snake oil" after the last £100 I dropped on DCS map pre-orders. I sorry I cannot be more positive about what should be exciting news. Im afraid the last 2 maps have left a sour taste.

  18. I feel like it may be time to wait, I have pre-purchased almost every ED module - After the drama and the game of brinkmanship that's been played with my money between ED and the other developer, I just don't feel comfortable investing more until I see more in the way of ensuring that my investment will be sound in the future. I love ED, ED's product and the capabilities we have with it - I am very, very excited to see where it goes.. but after more than 15 years of using this sim, I am worried given the last year. I know I'll get called a troll, I'd invite anyone who thinks so to read my other posts on this forum. I usually feel like it's best to keep my opinion to myself but the silence here has been deafening.

  20. I have revisited this magnificent OH-6 after some time being away from DCS and I must just say WOW. This little helicopter flies great after last update. This flight model is everything I wished and is very, very close to real thing. Many thanks for your hard word. Now, next thing I would really love, would be a AH6 version (let's say, some very early model:-)) with two rocket pods and two miniguns. And I would be even ok with V-tail:-)

  23. Star Citizen of flight sims? I'm affraid it might turn into a feature creep. I've poured lots of money into all sorts of modules, terrains and campaigns but called it a day until I see some further progress on early access (the majority of the modules) first. Afganistan in its really poor state was a turning point for me.

  24. Sorry for the off-topic, but that's one reason more why I wish so hard that you guys would do a "South-West USA Map", with integrating the NTTR like you did with Normandy 2.0. Cause for me, you are the top map-makers for DCS at the moment.

  25. Glad it works better for you now :) 64 GB arent necessary to achieve solid FPS in the Phantom. We have tested it with multiple low spec machines with generally good results. When issues happened, it was usually due to unfortunate combinations of hardware or obscure settings deep down somewhere. So its totally possible that someone with a 1070, a 10 year old CPU and 16 GB RAM runs DCS and the Phantom specifically at better FPS than someone with a "NASA machine". Its unfortunate, but that's kinda how it is - at least in DCS. Very hard to continue improving that experience once at that point.

  27. Mistermann will really dig hearing this! He puts so much hard time and work into creating this stuff for us. I like providing what insight I can from a technicalish perspective, but the PDF, photos, and all the stuff you see on the user files is him. He also goes above and beyond dumping money into voice overs using some pretty creative AI to give it a more authentic feel. We are always looking to make things better and enjoy providing what we can to the community. Feel free to provide feedback and anything you might enjoy seeing in future stuff. Glad to hear all the hard work and fun we have making this stuff is also bringing good times to other DCS players. Look forward to creating more content down the road for everyone.

  28. 1/2 map. 2/2 no date. No Iran. No additional ground asset pack (Infantry is so old). = same for Afghanistan. Add to wish list. And You presented, that this is too much E.A. even for northern part. Maybe in 3 years. So for me NO for now.

  32. My question to ED is, are they planning to add airbases to Iran and other countries south of Iraq? @NineLine would you be able to answer my question? even if you dont know yet I think everyone would appreciate some Communication. Because there is a MASSIVE shortage of them, here is the list i put on the main Iraq forum post. ** Please correct me if i have missed any or named one already in "DCS: Iraq" ** Kuwait: -Ali Al Salem Air Base -Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base Qatar: -Al Udeid air base -Dukhan/Tamim Airbase Bahrain: -Riffa Air Base (Helo base) -Sakhir Air base Iran -Dezful air base -Omidiyeh air base -Shiraz (possible exception due to it being in "DCS: Persian Gulf") -Mehrabad air base -bandar-e-Bushehr air base -Hamadan air base -Esfahan air base Saudi Arabia -King Saud air base Edit: Also would like to mention that when i asked this first in the main forum i was met with "Have you looked at the map in the FAQ?" from 9L... And didnt get another repsonse.

  33. What We have: - Some armed Toyotas. That's good. - No civil Toyota or civil cars. VAZ2109 is so old. - 1 Insurgent Infantry - only one - 2 US very very old Infantry - No desert camo. - 3 new RU Infantry - No desert camo. - 1 GE new Infantry - No desert camo. - 4 very old crouch/stand Infantry. - No desert camo. These new two maps need new Infantry. Especially where there were conflict with ISIS and Taliban,.... Add aditional buildings from map in Mission Editor. Thank You.

  34. Overall, I believe ED have done a much better job than expected in including critical Gulf War-era Coalition air bases. Most of the relevant bases omitted from the map are understandable, either being over on the West coast of the Saudi Peninsula and thus too far outside scope (King Faisal, King Fahad, and King Khalid ABs), or being present on the PG map already (Al Minhad and Al Dhafra). However, there is one glaring omission that I hope is under consideration for adding in the distant future: Prince Sultan Air Base near Al Kharj. This base was home to a huge number of coalition squadrons during Desert Storm, and a critical hub for major coalition operations. Below I've listed some of the hosted squadrons: While I understand that the facilities of Prince Sultan Air Base are very different today from what they were during the Gulf War era, the base itself has been a critical part of US-led operations from 1996 through today, so I don't believe that should be reason alone to exclude it. I sincerely hope this critical piece of Desert Storm operations is under consideration for addition to the Iraq - South map in the distant future.

  38. Re: doubting the amount of INS drift (200+ ft) Testing with a standard GPS-on flight, no fixes done. STPT 1 was about where it should be at 13 minutes after takeoff. STPT 2 had already shifted at 15 minutes after takeoff; purple circle indicates where it should be. Unable to measure as I can't see the support columns in the map/editor. STPT 3 and OAP also shifted; purple circle indicates where they should be. Note: attack heading was calculated as 250. Approximate distance measured from programmed STPT 3 and actual STPT 3. STPT 4 has been shifted all the way to the bridge ramp. Approximate distance measured rom programmed STPT 4 and actual STPT 4. As you can see they are deltas of approximately 200ft, possibly a smidge more, and the drift appears to happen at a hardcoded time. Mission start was 0600, wheels up 0611. Drift occured somewhere between 0624 and 0626. Next flight will be no GPS to see if I can get fixes to work.

  45. Which is a whole different kettle of fish, but 1st draft of Afghanistan using whatever the new methods are IMO flopped badly enough that I'm holding off on Iraq until I see if they can make it actually look acceptable to me. And I'm not a helo driver complaining about down low. Kola managed to improve to a decent place, so I have hope, but I feel burned enough by Afghanistan that I'll hold off this time.

  48. I have almost pre-ordered every module, be it Aircraft, Helicopters or Maps. This time though I will pass on and wait until it´s much more refined. Recently I got the Kola and Afghanistan map and the CH-47F, but I find all three of them too incomplete to also add an (most probably) incomplete Iraq map ontop of that. I know about Early Acces and what to expect, since as I told, I have done that with almost all addons and I own everything apart from the South Atlantic map, JF-17 and MBB-339. But for now I want to see how developement moves on for Kola, Afghanistan and CH-47F before investing more. The Razbam issue also comes on top of this, having all their Aircraft too. Also recent performance issues (flying almost entirely in VR) keeps me from putting more hard earned money into DCS. It´s not because I have lost faith in DCS, or want to be negative, but I just have reached a point where I want developement to catch up with my investment.

  50. You imply this is the case for EVERYONE. It's not. It may be "NOT FULLY USABLE" for YOU, but your posts imply that's the case for everyone which isn't the case. It's "fully usable" for me. Please note that I'm not saying (nor do I think) that you don't have a problem and I have no doubt that it's not fully usable for you. I just have an issue when people presume their issue affects ALL users. The version before this was equally "NOT FULLY USABLE" for a different subset of users which is why ED is still working on the system.
