  1. Actually....... AI flight operations working. Weapons and Sensors working Basic collision shell and fire effects working. Carrier can be sunk. Things to do...... Complete animations. For example the jet blast deflectors are missing their struts/supports right now and the catapult shuttle is not animated yet, etc... Fix some texture issues. I had to remove a few small elements from the model because the texture are not displaying correctly. Add player functionality. Maybe a beta release for Christmas Many thanks to those that sent links for models. I've yet to look at them yet as this is a model I purchased awhile ago. Many thanks to Admiral189 for the 3d software tips. I look at the other models soon, Maybe for CVN-79-81

  2. Honestly, I think the overall abysmal state of the AI in DCS is the “elephant in the room”. The dynamic campaign in the ‘other’ sim works because the AI works. The player can just sit on the ramp, and all the other units, ground, sea and air, go about their tasks, making logical decisions along the way. Compare that to DCS, where at times it seems nothing works. We’ve all seen AI aircraft burning fuel like it’s unlimited only to eject over the target, or low on fuel yet passing a tanker whilst diverting to an airfield 200nm away. If a dynamic campaign has to rely on the current AI, then it’ll be broken before it’s even started. With that said, there are signs that substantial, continuing improvements to the AI are becoming more of a priority for ED.

  6. This has been brought up numerous times, and ED have made it clear that they will not be switching to a subscription model. They've also made it clear that finance isn't an issue for them at the moment - and they have plenty - so the issue with "where is the DCE?" (which is where you created this thread from) is not financial, so this wouldn't help to see DCE any quicker. Subscription would be the end of DCS for me. I love DCS, but I'm not going there. I quit Adobe when they went subscription (even though subscription was cheaper for me than buying every major upgrade that came out), and switched away to other products. (Never regretted it either - it forced me to find Davinci Resolve for video editing, which I absolutely love!). I know I'm not alone, and others have made it clear that if ED did - they'd be gone too. (Wouldn't surprise me if a ED Rep says this again, and locks this topic shortly ) I don't mind paying extra for new features. If DCE was a paid addon, like combined arms, I'd be fine with that too. I wouldn't even mind paying once-off's for major updates (such as DCS 3.0 being released), like <redacted> other simulators - although I know that ED's business structure is different to this and I respect that too. Subscriptions just encourage companies to get lazy and lose incentive to develop as much - especially when there is no competition. It also disadvantages those who only play occasionally - and at the moment, I'm seeing within our group the average hours per week/month of DCS drop significantly, so a subscription would definitely be a bad move there. I honestly think that subscription would destroy DCS - not make it better, and I suspect ED know this too. Don't get me wrong - I believe there are some serious hurdles to overcome with the development of DCS - but it sounds like finance isn't one.

  14. No, that's not the problem. We're talking about really basic stuff: AI doing what they were programmed to, not ignoring ROE, triggers or waypoint tasks/commands, not using AB recklessly, not crashing onto nearest mountain, actually using the bingo fuel to go back alive, attack primary target first, defend against most important threat... stuff like that.

  15. If ED fix the AI and implement a proper SAVE. The DC is already possible kinda. But with the abysmal state of the AI, and the willingness of ED to admit and start fixing it, I highly doubt we will see a playable version of a dynamic campaign any time soon. Maybe for our children or grandchildren.. Even the current scripted scenarios based gameplay, which is 'supported' for decades, half the time most of the content is broken and doesn't work.

  16. Unless i tell the SMS via DTC or manual entry what is equipped on the jet it doesnt know anything about weapons loaded or not. I should be able to fully manipulate delivery modes and radar modes WITHOUT having to have anything loaded. The fact we cant even manually tell the jet what stores we have is another thing not done right. somehow however the jet knows I expended all my AG munitions and yet i still can manipulate all delivery modes. I just have to have loaded up something first. This can not be correct. With that i should be able to put AG mode in, master arm to „SIM“ and the jet give me every delivery option and symbology just as if i actually had a weapon loaded. We cant even do that. The artificial barrier that the computer doesnt let us manipulate stores pages, delivery modes and radar modes is false. These are not hard linked to „no weapon no manipulation“

  17. I mean we have some stuff in the vanilla assets already. Really all you'd need are a couple ground units to start out with. Iltis, Transall, Luchs, MAN Kati, Unimog, etc. For the soviets a T72 and that's it. You're done. Don't need anything else that isn't already in the game.

  21. Last flight with my friends on multiplayer, i trapped and followed directors to the parking spot. It turned me around automatically, i started shutting down procedure. My friend trapped, got his way to parking position next to me on elevator 2. Seeing him jump around and teleport was immersion breaking as hell. But if that was not enough, during his "automatic 180 turn" he hit me and got damaged. (visible damage on right stab). Please - make this ugly teleportation optional - when plain captain gives you stop signal, give us option if pilot wants to remain as is and proceed with shut down, or if he wants a turn-around.

  22. Ok, if you are trying to set a trigger based on a radio frequency set in the Remote Frequency Indicator, I think I have this figured out. It was an interesting challenge to learn how to do it. In order to detect a parameter from an indicator in the cockpit you need to use the function X: COCKPIT INDICATION TEXT IS EQUAL TO. This function asks for three parameters to be filled in order to work correctly: INDICATOR ID ELEM NAME VALUE ---------- INDICATOR ID Indicators are anything that present a value to the crew. In the case of the Remote Frequency Indicator (RFD), or any indicator, you have to find its ID. The ID for indicators are normally inside the Cockpit folder for the module, referenced in the device_init.lua file. For the Kiowa, this file can be found in the \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\OH-58D\Cockpit folder. Inside the device_init.lua you have to look for the indicators section. I am using the Notepad++ software to open the lua files, and I recommend that you use it too, as it identifies the line numbers. I'll be referencing the line numbers from now on. The indicators section starts at line 82. The RFD is listed on line 91. From the DCS User Manual, page 166, it is stated that the indicators ID start at 0 and increase by 1 with each subsequent line. So, if you count from line 83, "OH58D::ccControls Indicator", considering it as 0, to line 91, "OH58D::ccRFD Indicator", you will end up with 8. This is the INDICATOR ID you are looking for. ----------- ELEM NAME This is the tricky part. You have to look for the Main_page.lua file inside the indicator folder. For the RFD it is inside the Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\OH-58D\Cockpit\RFD\Indicator. As you are looking for a frequency showed in the RFD, you have to look for the Frequency section inside the file. Using Notepad++ it is on page 134. The ELEM NAME is always listed as "Something.name". In the case of a radio frequency, on line 140 we found Freq.name. Freq.name = "Freq".. string.format("%i", i) So, we have the first part of the ELEM NAME, Freq. The Freq is inside a for loop, counting from 1 to 5, as shown on line 136: for i = 1, 5 do So, as we are interested on Frequency 5 on the RFD, the string.format("%i", i) will be 5. Thus, the ELEM NAME is Freq5 ----------- VALUE This is the easy part. It is a simple string. Sometimes it requires the dot, sometimes it doesnt. In the case of the A-10C it was not necessary to input the dot; in the case of the Kiowa it was needed. Pure trial and error to find out. I chose 055.000 Mhz as the desired frequency to activate the trigger, thus the VALUE in this case will be 055.000. -------------------- Now, you can get in the Triggers section of the Mission Editor and input the parameters For the Triggers I created a Switched Condition, so that every time you input the right frequency the trigger will be activated. The Condition is the X: COCKPIT INDICATION TEXT IS EQUAL TO, with the following parameters INDICATOR ID = 8 ELEM NAME = Freq5 VALUE = 055.000 The Action is a Message to All ----------------------------------- I made a mission using two A-10C as testbeds and a Kiowa. For the A-10s, every time you input: Preset Channel in the UHF radio equal to 02 or; A frequency of 255.000 Mhz in the UHF radio, a message will appear. For the Kiowa, every time you input 055.000 in the Radio 05, a message will appear. Attached is a track file showing the operation in the Kiowa and the mission I used for the tests. 23. A few days ago Eagle Dynamics officially answered that AIM-54 is in queue for investigation and update by themselves. What do you else need? I think it will take maybe three years, don't know, but still it will be much earlier than finishing the F-14 module by Heatblur.

  24. Hey all, so I think we have improved this somewhat, but one request I have reported was to do proper wing damage vs just snapping the wing. For many years across many sims, the loss of parts was used in lieu of real damage. I think its been used so much, especially in WWII sims people assume its real to have parts break off but in reality, most things short of a large explosion or collision will not do this. So currently, and still a 'to do' issue, is the ability to bend the wing instead of break. This means having damage, such as damaged control surfaces, vibrations, etc. This is an example of some tests I have been doing with WWII in not allowing the tail to fall off (excuse the videos not lined up that well) You should still be penalized for abusing the aircraft, and no doubt in my mind its abuse that we are seeing when the wings fall off, but the penalty might be too harsh. The other thing we are looking at is adding the artificial feel system in, now if any of you have experience with the Bf 109K-4 in DCS you will see something similar where we simulate control restrictions based on speed, so if you were in a steep dive you would struggle to pull out because the controls become less responsive. I would assume this system for the F-5 would be similar, but adding it might take some time and might be more appropriate for an FFB setup. So I think it is better, and a little more forgiving, but it still needs some love, until then you meed to be mindful of your speeds and home much force you are using. Thanks!

  26. DCS WW2 needs so many things. That some aircraft remaster is far down the list for me. Also while I'm perfectly happy to pay for remasters of older modules(Huey please) WW2 DCS is already super expensive. We had to pay for map. And the asset pack(asset pack left mostly unupdated for several years now) I would rather they spend time and resources in a proper full fidelity 109G6. Then update the K4 that really has no business being on either of the 2 WW2 maps.

  29. I find statements like this to be extremely disappointing, and a large reason why I have stopped buying DCS and especially ED products. Your newsletter stated, I quote, "Fully modelled weapons and sensor systems. ", "Both the DCS: F-5E Remaster and the existing DCS: F-5E will receive many improvements and fixes including certain corrections to radar operation....and more", "Numerous bug fixes and tunings such as damage modelling, sensors, and avionics". It may not be an outright statement that you would bring the radar up from the standards of 10+ years ago but surely you can see why users would have that expectation upon reading that announcement no?

  31. AI you say... that's funny, because I just tested that Mossie mission in which you strafe the Abbeville airfield. Just as you start the mission, there are two FW190s taking off right at your 12 o'clock. A perfect opportunity to get two kills, one might think. I set my wingman's AI to Ace and told him to "engage the bandits". We are at their 6 o'clock, they're taking off, it's easy, right? A minute later, the wingman radioed "I'm hit, bailing out" and that was that. I played this mission 3 years ago and nothing's changed since then, I'm afraid. I'm really fed up with this and won't buy any plane soon 'cause it's pointless.

  33. it is fine if it "defaults" to that but currently it is "exclusively" that and that is not right. i should be able to change it, not only via DTC but also by simply changing the delivery mode from CCIP to CCRP, DTOS etc. regardless of weapons on board or not. in addition, DTC should not be the only way to manipulate the SMS and telling the jet what is loaded. manuals clearly describe how its done manually as well. somewhat of a different topic as we lack the function in game as of now but sadly directly linked to this issue.

  36. IMHO astutely put. In episode "Birnham Wood" of "West Wing", President Bartlet is trying to broker peace in the Middle East. When negotiations break down over how to handle Jerusalem, Bartlet and his team try a different approach: try and resolve all other, smaller, issues first, and see what happens. He is warned that the issue of Jerusalem must be resolved, or no tangible progress can be achieved, no matter what other successes they may have. Everything else is irrelevant. When it comes to Dynamic Campaigns, a real "Save Game" feature (more precisely: "continue from save") is ED's "Jerusalem", the elephant in the room. Unless ED manage to implement a real save/continue game (not a kinda-sorta save game that could be called that name if you squint real hard, and it semantically puts bytes to storage), anything else in relation to a dynamic campaign is irrelevant. Why? Because without a real save/continue feature (that saves and continues units mid-tasks, with damage and some expended stores, can set time of day, weather, and allows scripts to continue where they left off), no real dynamic campaign is possible. We already have a precursor DC without a real save game that creates new missions based on the results of the current one. That may technically be a dynamic mission, yes, but it is not what the majority expect, and it's not what server owners need to host real, developing dynamic missions. Servers must restart every 8-10 hours to account for DCS's many memory leaks, so not being able to save and continue-from-save a mission would be worthless. And that is how I view the status of dynamic campaigns: DCS's ability to deliver "continue from save". Since this feature can (and should) be delivered independently from a dynamic campaign, we know where on the road to DC we are. Currently we are nowhere. Once we have continue-from-save, I believe ED is in a position to deliver DC within 5 years. Until then, I feel that ED is needlessly embarrassing themselves when they talk about DC without addressing the elephant in the room. Let's be hopeful - "next year in Jerusalem"?

  40. I noticed this problem in the F-14 Instant Action Carrier Qual mission. You get handed off to the catapult officer, who then directs you to turn right and move forward until you scrape a parked Hornet to your right. Realistically, I think there should be one more director, as the guy on the catapult doesn't have the proper line of sight to direct you safely at that point anyway.

  42. I've dropped your DCS log file into the DCS log analyser which had the following feedback. Note, these items are performance related so are aren't strictly the cause of your loading time problem but worth resolving given the impacts that they have (and may help with that). Turn off SSLR. Turn off SSAO. Disable civil traffic. Consider using TAA instead of MSAA. In addition to this I see you are also using the OH-6A mod, along with the gunner export script. This has known performance impacts on multiplayer servers with a large number of units. The advice on the GitHub site calls out this performance issue as well and has a recommendation to remove that script. Remove gunner_export_hook.lua from Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\Hooks to avoid it (Doorgunner won't be functional anymore) The log analyzer also states that your Windows version is out of date. There may be performance improvements in later versions. If you haven't already then add an exclusion to your entire DCS installation directory in your anti-virus software.

Then click the "Boot" tab, and check "Safe boot". Click "OK" and restart. Remember to repeat and revert to "Normal startup" when done.

  45. YES! that is the biggest issue I have in CV landings (reverb G2) it is very hard to make out the landing area clearly until you are quite close, around 3/4 of a mile, which means if you are off, it is hard to adjust. I have played around with the Gamma, AF, but nothing seems to help. What works for me is turning into the final approach around one ship’s width to the right of the CVs wake and when I “Call the Ball” at 0.8 NM, I usually just have to roll a bit to the left to be pretty much perfectly aligned. It would be nice if it was easier to spot from farther away, like land runways, which you can easily make out from 2-3+ miles. OTOH, I would not want to have it artificially enhanced.

  46. Its not a clean slate. Over three years to acknowledge and fix a bug in the pylons contributing to the ability to snap the wings off is bad faith. The absence of any flight control artificial feel system modeling is still not acknowledged which means more years of waiting. And the roll limits are obviously misinterpreted but this is also ignored. Yes, it’s probably a bit harder to crack the wings off in the F-5 than it was two weeks ago. That doesn’t mean it’s modeled correctly now. They fixed one bug after three years. To be honest, it is far too late in any case. The F-5 PvP scene is history and unlikely to ever return. I understand the F-5 is your dream and you desperately want it to be something other than a hot mess. Sorry to rain on your parade but ED really made a mess of the F-5 and then drove a stake in the ground and refused to budge while their third party developers, Aerges and Heatblur demonstrated how to properly interpret limitations sections and model flight control systems.

  47. Let's not get ahead of ourselves... For a set-back there has to be progress first. I think it would be good to remember that no-one outside ED has seen any progress for a decade or so. All we had were some pretty pictures that allegedly show something-something-mumble campaign, and some breathless commentary form internal sources on how well the developers were progressing... 3-4 years ago. Then again, I heard some positive rumors: ED allegedly managed to hire G. R. R. Martin to write the narrative for the first dynamic campaign, and he'll get to it right after he finishes his current engagement writing that "Thrones" thing.

  48. Haha, I actually purchased a Zumwalt model quite a while back and dug it up yesterday when I saw the news. I was hoping for a rather quick implementation, but the model wasn't really good enough. So it won't happen quite yet. Then there's also the issue with implementing these kinds of missiles in DCS.

  49. it would be nice if the F5E got an updated radar simulation. I kept hearing Heatblur was supposed to offer thier pulse radar simulation tech to ED? So it could be adapted to ther modules like the F5? With how the Swiss F5E model was shown off with the new dorsal antenna on the 3d model it was also speculated there would be additional features like Digital radio and INS. guess not. But it makes sense why the cockpit was not shown off until the release of the F5E "remaster", people would of realized they are only paying for a visual update, something you got for free with past modules like A10C or Ka50. ED used to only charge money if the "upgrade" included a new variation with some new extra features.
