Hi! Of course you're welcome to ask. First of all let me explain the no specific dates or timetables until things are clear policy: we think it's common in DCS to miss deadlines, which understandably leads to frustration on the customer side. This is not uncommon for software development, even more so for small teams working on complex systems like is the case in DCS. Unpredictable things like team member illnesses, difficulty with implementation of a specific system in DCS, difficult to solve bugs or performance issues can significantly delay a release when working in small, highly specialised teams. Regarding code development, we're currently working on 3 main aspects: F1 radar physics overhaul, F1M menu logic and base input and clickability code overhaul (which is almost complete now). This last part won't be visible to the user but will help a smoother and buggless implementation of the F1M and F-104 input logics. On the 'art' side of things, the F1M cockpit is receiving an overhaul and work. Hope this helps complete the information already provided by @Loukuins16 points

Hey, I'm on the F-111C mod team. The project is still alive. We're just not going to be using Discord as a platform for now. Development is continuing, and we've made quite a lot of progress in the past couple months. Going forward we don't plan on posting anything about it until the EFM, cockpit, and external model ready. As you can understand, the F-111 is a complex aircraft, and it'll take our small team time to get it over the line. We've got some real heavy hitters on our team with a lot of professional experience, from aerospace, to systems coding, to modelling and animation. Most importantly, we all love the F-111. Here's one more screenshot, as a treat. Next time you hear from us, it'll be good news!7 points

Masterpiece Oban. So well done. Tested with some Argentinian Skyhawks bombing with snakeyes and works wonderfully, the main gun, the missiles, AAA, is so nice to be able to put together a credible RN Task Force now with the real ships from 1982. Thanks a lot mate.5 points

Compared to other DCS aircraft from ED, the dynamic glass reflections on instruments are much too strong. Also, the effect is using a low resolution map of rear headrest area to create "reflections", which gets very jarring once you start moving the head around the cockpit. Default view: Shifted view: The "reflected" area. For reference, here's how this effect looks in ED P-47 and Mi-24 aircraft parked in the same spot. Note the reflection is maybe half as strong (or less), and more blurred, avoiding the very jagged lines we have in F-5.4 points

This is why ED is so reluctant to add things. They can't win. How many posts were there begging for addition of water so they could have carrier ops? And how many of those posts said "Just give us the land, it doesn't need any texture or anything"? And how many posts have there already been about how terrible the textures are and begging for them to be improved? I might actually fly from the carrier up occasionally, so it's not like I'm opposed to this addition, but adding any sort of texture (let alone satellite imagery) would bloat what is already a massive map size (and I like big area maps).4 points

Hey Admiral, I just wanted to wish you all the best. I definitely know all about pain. I injured my back when I was in my twenties. I worked in Law Enforcement for many, many years. A stupid drunk I was dealing with pushed me backwards and down a flight of concrete stairs. I've never been the same after all that. So once again I hope your feeling better soon Admiral, the DCS World Community is behind you 100%! Take good care, Timex 34 points

Tested it with the kc130. Tanker behaved good. Stable 15 degree bank turns while refueling. Ai aircraft flights refueled without hangups. Thanks for fixing this.3 points

I really prefer this approach instead of ED's habit of hyping things to the moon and back -even to the point of borderline misleading about features and quality- and then blaming players for having unrealistic expectations. Aerges have a history of providing. Let's have some patience, it's going to be awesome.3 points

LMFAO! Tried my hand at some AI stuff for the intro. Created the photo with a combo of Chat GPT and Midjourney, then followed up by making it animated with Hailu AI. Great stuff! I will probably start doing more of this.3 points

Polychop update (source: Polychop discord) ------------------------------------ Polychop Community, We wanted to give you some updates on a few things that we think you as the community will be happy to hear. New Developer: Polychop has hired a new developer who is already hard at work diving deep into the internal systems to get up to speed as fast as he can. He brings a lot of experience to the team and we are very lucky and excited to have him on board. New Testers: Polychop has brought some new internal testers on board who are already very familiar with the modules. The testers are getting to work starting with your bug reports here in the Discord to start addressing the current issues that are most important to you, The Community. New Community Manager: I wanted to formally introduce myself as the Community Manager for Polychop. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Polychop Team. In addition to being the Community Manager I will also be part of the internal testing team, and I plan to start working on some of the most common bug reports that you all have already made to help get them taken care of. With that being said, I have spent a lot of time in this Discord both posting, and reading what you all have had to say over the last couple years. My goal is to help bring you as much insight as I can on things I am able talk about. I will be your eyes and ears as much as I can. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. New Internal Systems: We have implemented a new internal system that is really going to help streamline the testing and bug fixing process. It is going to make communication and collaboration on bug fixing between the Devs and Testers much more fluid, as well as make it easier to align with each other on priorities of work. What we need from you all on this topic: To help us keep things sorted as best we can in here, we ask that you only post bugs in the bug report channel which can be found here oh58d-bugs. We really don't want to miss anything and would hate for something could get lost in conversation in one of the other channels. Additionally we ask that you do a quick search in the bug report channel for the bug you are experiencing before posting as to help us keep the number of duplicate reports to a minimum. Remember, the more detail you can provide the better. If it is possible to include a video, track file, or log along with your description of what happened that helps us testers a lot when it comes to reproducing the bugs on our side. POLYCHOP IS HIRING: We are looking to add to the team! Current open positions in order of priority are C++/Lua Coders, and 3D Artists. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested in joining the Polychop team, please reach out to @Polychop Sven, or to @CYPHER11 who will be handling all things Human Resources, or you can reach out to me and I will help get you headed in the right direction and in contact with one of them. Thank you for your continued support @everyone!3 points

21st February 2025 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, We are delighted to announce that our new DCS: East Afghanistan region is now available in the latest DCS update! You will also see some great improvements to the southwest region! Check out the launch trailer. This new area contains 10 new airfields, several large cities such as Kabul, and a massive amount of dramatic terrain for you to explore. The DCS: Afghanistan map has been improved throughout with higher quality textures, normal maps, updated airfields and urban areas, as well as a more precise terrain mesh. The addition of the eastern region increases the high-detail of this map to 2,290,164 Km2 and now expands to the Arabian Sea for carrier operations. Enjoy! Alongside our East Afghanistan terrain launch, the new DCS Update introduces improvements to the DCS Core, various modules and assets. Please find an overview of the most significant fixes and additions below and make sure you update to version DCS 2.9.13.6818 now. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics East Afghanistan Out Now! The next region of DCS: Afghanistan is now available: East Afghanistan! This new area leverages our latest map technology and lessons learned from previous terrains, including the Southwest region. The eastern region is characterised by its rugged, mountainous terrain, interspersed with agricultural areas around Bagram and along waterways. Kabul, the capital and largest city in Afghanistan, includes several points of interest such as hospitals, historical sites, monuments, and unique neighborhoods. The Eastern region also includes the urban areas of Bagram, Gardez, Jalalabad, and Khost and 10 highly-detailed airfields: • Bagram • Kabul • Jalalabad • Gardez • Khost • Sharana • Bamyan • Urgoon Heliport • Ghazni Heliport • Khost Heliport Along with the release of the Eastern region, the entire map offers improved surface textures, ground clutter, noise, and normal maps. We have also upgraded the transition between ground texture types and increased the visual quality of surfaces throughout. In the months ahead, we will continue to enhance the map’s performance and visual fidelity, as well as improving AI pathfinding. For carrier ops, the current update now expands to include the Arabian Gulf, albeit at a lower resolution. In parallel to continued improvement on the Southwest and Eastern regions, we now move our focus to North Afghanistan. New missions for DCS: Black Shark 3 and DCS: Flaming Cliffs 2024 have also been added for DCS: Afghanistan, enjoy! Flexible purchase options provide customers the choice of purchasing one or more of three regions of Afghanistan: Southwest, East and North. You can purchase DCS: Southwest Afghanistan and DCS: East Afghanistan for $29.99 each. Alternatively, you may purchase the entire DCS: Afghanistan map for the early access discounted price of $55.99. This will include all current and future regions and updates. DCS Update Development Progress DCS Core This week’s update saw numerous changes and improvements including AI aircraft being unable to react to radar-launched missiles outside of visual range if not equipped with an onboard radar warning receiver. The initial implementation of tactical turns when flying in a two-ship with an AI wingman has also been added, and AI aircraft now use enhanced lead pursuit for more timely rejoins. Various additional improvements have been made to the S-3B. The Mi-28 can now land on small helipads, and the MiG-31 damage model has been upgraded. Ground and naval AI also saw improvements with Chinese Assets pack ships. The HQ-7B short range SAM has received accuracy refinements, and artillery now fire at secondary targets again. Graphical and performance improvements to the DCS Core include the addition of both High and Low SSAO effect options and a number of shader compilation errors have been fixed. This update also saw important bug resolutions to the Mission Editor. The dedicated server saw certain options improved in addition to bug fixes. Numerous weapon improvements for both SAMs and Tomahawk were implemented, and magnetic north has been updated to better reflect current real world deviation. Eagle Dynamics Modules The DCS: F-16C Viper saw the following improvements: addition of a mouse click function on the throttle to move between OFF and IDLE; the Ground Moving Target game crash is now fixed; Dogfight Mode stuck with NO RAD indication is fixed; new parking brake and anti-skid control bindings added; pilot survivability improved. The DCS: F/A-18C continues to see enhancements such as adjustments to the AIM-9X tracking near gimbal limits; similar pilot damage modelling as the Viper, and several fixes including a PDLT crash in EXP mode; interface between the data link pod and the AGM-84 fixed; and AUTO bombing mode based on an OAP now fixed. Both of these aircraft and the DCS: F-5E also include air-to-air infrared-guided missile seekers being actively distracted by flares prior to missile launch. This makes pre-emptive flares effective when flying against these aircraft. AI aircraft saw a large number of behaviour and functional improvements. DCS: F-5E Remastered improvements include more correct radar display when powered off and refined gun dispersion. The DCS: L-39 Albatros saw fixes for certain clickable cockpit elements, while the Yak-52 control binding animation and auto start issues were fixed. WWII Warbirds such as the DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt and DCS: P-51D Mustang benefit from corrections to their engine performance and lighting systems, respectively. Third-Party Modules Magnitude 3, developers of the DCS: MiG-21bis, have fixed SPO-10 lights, while IndiaFoxtEcho has upgraded collision models, cockpit functionality, and gunsight operation for the DCS: MB-339A/PAN. Deka Ironwork Simulations brought loadout panel improvements to the DCS: JF-17F Thunder, solving mission editor freezes and refining data link text overlay. For a more detailed list of all the changes in this week’s DCS Update, please read the complete changelog. DCS: F-4E Phantom II by Heatblur, saw numerous bug fixes and mission improvements. DCS: Mirage F1 by Aerges also saw a large number of improvements to systems and input bindings. We hope you enjoy exploring the new East Afghanistan region and take advantage of the many improvements included in this update. As always, stay tuned for more news. Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,2 points

Now, with maps of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, we could create very interesting scenarios with this type of MOD. The INSURGENT MOD is great, but it lacks diversity, and that's really missing. Is there any modder project currently in progress that goes in this direction?2 points

I dont think we ever put the blame on the users. In fact, I am trying to use every situation I can to make sure everyone (especially in our team) understands that user mistakes are typically due to lack of good documentation/tutorials/reference material. So while its ultimately the users mistake, the best way to improve a situation is to improve the teaching material. Im not sure why ur reaction is so heated. I am sorry if you perceived it differently. Please note that the manual is open source, everyone in the community (you included) can edit it and contribute and improve it for the benefit of every user. We are one big team[emoji106] The explanation of the "Bomb on Target" option shown in the Bombing Tool is explained by the manual in the Bombing Tools chapter: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/dcs/bombing_computer.html#bomb-on-target The manual also has a global search function, enter "Bomb on Target" and it will lead you there, cheers.2 points

Yes to both. But it also depends on the radar selection in the WSO pit. Like, if the radar is turned off, selection of this switch wont do much. In practice, for most DCS players it is probably best to just leave it on ON. But there are of course situations in which it might be meaningful to have it off (or standby) while the radar itself is still turned on. Also relevant for ground tests (in particular IRL). Some details here: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/cockpit/pilot/weapon_management.html#radar-missile-power-switch More here: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/systems/radar/general_operation.html#klystron2 points

njoy my awesome drawing, but above the arctic circle, that my yellow line roughly shows, the snowfall is late october-ish. By november halfway, it's pretty solidly snow. I definitely think that mid-november or 01 november is a much more reasonable date for beginning of proper snowcover in this area. It might not really be for like Mosjeen-Luleå-Kemi-Ranua axis quite yet in early November, but arguably most action is done in the north in this map. Just as an example: https://weatherspark.com/m/86559/10/Average-Weather-in-October-in-Kiruna-Sweden#:~:text=The average sliding 31-day snowfall during October in Kiruna,or falls below 2.0 inches. "The average sliding 31-day snowfall during October in Kiruna is rapidly increasing, starting the month at 3.0 inches, when it rarely exceeds 7.9 inches or falls below 0.2 inches, and ending the month at 7.8 inches, when it rarely exceeds 15.9 inches or falls below 2.0 inches." In Rovaniemi, just at the arctic circle line, "https://weatherspark.com/y/92829/Average-Weather-in-Rovaniemi-Finland-Year-Round" Snow alone is the most common for 4.4 months, from November 17 to April 1. The month with the most days of snow alone in Rovaniemi is January, with an average of 5.2 days.2 points

The AI also does not remain in correct battle formation following a left Tac-Turn that it has initiated. It returns to line abreast right regardless once the manoeuvre has been completed. The radio menu seems to be populated with numerous commands that either don’t work or conflict with each other. Perhaps the new Tac feature would be better suited to an entirely separate menu.2 points

After latest patch kneeboard pages dont show waypoints data in MP, doesnt matter we use ED preplanned waypoints or markpoints on map, computer work fine, no nav error, but missing nav data pages. Also ATC/intercom sometimes cease to work for no reason, dunno it's just another ED ATC bug or something Viggen specific2 points

All of the Operation Secret Squirrel Liveries have been uploaded as individual files. Apparently when I tried to bundle it all together, something got lost in the process. I'm still working on the other 379th BW ships that I have images for, along with a fictional recreation of the SIOP pattern (attached image) that leaves the base gray of the ED livery in place wherever we haven't yet figured out how to remove decals. So I finally got logged in here and can post. Yay. Completely forgot how to use a forum so that was fun remembering! Bit of background on myself: was obsessed with the RAH-66 Comanche as a kid, was going to join the US Army to fly them. Then they got canceled and blah. Joined any who and got injured in a humvee accident before I could go warrant officer and become a pilot. One night while tasting 4 roses heavily at my desk complained to the wife about how I'll never fly one, she literally goes: "is there a computer game or something you could do it in?" "dcs yes, but id want to do the controls and everything. would that be ok to build?" "sure go for it" THE VERY NEXT FREAKING DAY: a old 64-A cockpit simulator popped up on fleabay. Immediately bought it. Its here and stuck on top of a harbor freight trailer so I can eventually take it to LAN parties, army recruiting events, and air shows. Ive started sanding and priming the thing, talking to a few machine shops and a tech school about getting some replacement side panels water-jetted and some welding work done. Sim will be hard mounted once that work is done. Also the canopy had to be cut to fit in my garage so that will be made into a removable piece. Since the DZUS rails are still there, can mount things like on the real heli. So far I've got panels from tek: left hand panel, arm/safe panel, keyboard unit, and fire extenguisher panel and from total controls the EUFD panel. Ill be posting update photos once the cold goes mostly away and I can sand and paint outside, its freaking 10°F currently. Once that and the metal work is done, can begin rest of wiring and related. Did end up building and testing the PC in a surplus pelican military server rack. I only fly in VR now personally so wont need TV mount or anything. But ill still put the MFD screens in for events and such so i dont have to bring a easy to loose VR headset. tips, tricks, bourbon suggestions always welcome.1 point

Ok, I don't know what kind of voodoo magic this is, but these settings work like a charm with my system. Bravo! A couple of questions: if you use Virtual Desktop, what encoding do you use? I prefer 264+ at 400mbits, seems to work good. Then, do you add any supersampling in DCS? I run my system at 72fps, and bumped SS to 1.3, and it's pretty stable, and looks pretty nice. Anyway - you absolutely made my day. Went out in the Loach and shot up a VC camp, took a few hits, then flew back to a floating base and pooched the landing...FUN! A request for the mission - unless I missed it, when I launched in the alert F-4, the only tanker that was airborne was an MPRS probe and drogue - not much use in DCS for a thirsty Rhino. Is there a way to request a boom tanker? Vulture1 point

In your DCS install folders there might be a file called dcs_variant.txt, and if you open it, it will tell you which Saved Games folder that specific installation will use. For some reason I missed the "2nd install..." in your screenshot. You cannot chose your Saved Games folders except with the use of the dcs_variant.txt file. By default Stable didn't have that file, or it was empty, and the "DCS" folder would be created under Saved Games. OpenBeta had it by default, and it had "openbeta" in it, and then the DCS.openbeta folder would be created in Saved Games. If you had "2ndInstall", in the file. A folder called "DCS.2ndInstall" would be created in Saved Games. Cheers! Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk1 point

Hello all, An update on my prior post: The user @Seasick has kindly provided me with an original copy of this Campaign, so the search is over. So, I sent a copy of the Campaign to its original author, @leonardo_c, so that he can have access to his prior work once again. I'm still mid-way with editing a MiG-21 training series, this one: but as soon as I finish it, I will start with updating this Campaign as the MiG-21 is still one of my favorite DCS modules ... hopefully I will have these projects finished before the Mig-29 arrives Cheers! Generally, I don't see why a MiG-21 package couldn't be priced at $79 from the get-go. Some of those members who joined DCS in the past couple of years, are a strange breed - there is little thought of what they are actually paying for. Those of us who have been here from the beginning, have gotten over 15 years out of modules like Ka-50/A-10C, and we still continue to invest time into them. Therefore, acting a cheapskate and claiming $10 and $15, becomes outright silly. This is further exacerbated in the fact that we finally have a chance to start fresh here with the MiG-21. There is little point in pulling a dying cat. Times were different when our current MiG-21Bis was released. Particularly, few acted on accountability due to lacking in-depth systems modeling (sight, ++++). It was as it was something fresh and new, thus much was forgiven. Something that might be difficult for new members to understand is that DCS only started to dish out new modules every year (or two) in recent times. BS1 was out for years, before A-10C came out (not even in the same environment, it was either or). Patience and proper planning ahead, is key here. Getting to the point; considering the state that the MiG-21Bis is in, and the fact that solutions were made by customizing the production process, it only seems logical to me to start fresh from scratch. You already have one variant which is wanted - MiG-21Bis. M3 has info on it (granted, more might be needed for some systems to be properly simulated). Still, much of the hard part is finished (getting reliable information). MiG-21Bis is a dedicated A-A variant, with secondary A-G capability. As such, the second variant would logically be a A-G focused one. Multiple factors considered, a PFM would be a solid second choice. Here's the reasoning: a) It would finally introduce a Russian fixed wing with guided weaponry (Kh-66 GROM). It would also allow to use the weapons listed on MiG-21Bis, which Bis cannot use (due to the radar sending out two beams, instead of one - has to do with targetting). b) It would fit very well time-wise with current AJS-37 and F-4E, +++. In particular, we should consider the fact that it's better, in this case, to have a more advnaced variant, as it can be adjusted for backward (in time) compatibility by limiting its ordnance. Particularly in early-to-mid Cold War, the major improvements were in weapon capability. While MiG-21s generally behave relatively similarily, you can, by adjusting available weaponry/cooling fluid for radar, simulate a MiG-21 A-A variant which has no radar and only access to R-60s... This is just an example, but it fits well with the AJS-37 and F-4E as well. With a bit of creativity, and smart thinking, you can easily replicate 3rd gen MiG-21s with the Bis. You can even simulate 2nd gen., if you go back all the way with weaponry (R-55). c) We would gain a different layout MiG-21, which would have an earlier fuselage revision (smaller spine), thus allowing any future ventures to expand from two different types of MiG-21 that we have. While I mention that two distinct MiG-21s could be made for $79, honestly, with a PFM, you are already well above a PF. With certain adjustments, that could be brought in. Equally, with a MiG-21Bis, you have most of a MiG-21M. All of a sudden, we could be talking about four variants of the MiG-21, alas that of what Aerges is doing with the F1... Again, imagination sets the limits, but with a little common sense, it would allow the studio to earn money, and appeal to those of us on the RU-side. BTW. From a MiG-21PF, you are much closer to a MiG-21F-13, than from a MiG-21Bis again. d) With some clever technologies in house, and modern techniques, the MiG-21 should sell like hotcakes, as it is a historically accurate competitor to some of the most popular modules here. M3 - Think over it. It could be a good business, granted - this time, it has to be done right.1 point

This is NORMAL behavior above 120 knots, depending on weather, QNH, and gross weight. The rotor experiences a hard retreating blade stall, that is very difficult to recover from. Best to do is collective down, cyclic back (slightly), pedal opposite YAW, PRAY! Stay away from 120 on speedo indicator! It happens fast, happens suddenly, happens hard. With conventional layout helicopters, the smaller the helicopter, the smaller the rotor disk, the lower the VNE. For DCS: OH-6A it is 120. 122 is near death. 125 is death. Fastest helicopter os DCS are huge CH-47 and MI-26. KA-50 is also fast with VNE of 155 knots or about that. Yes. New scripts replaced old ones.1 point
