I am sure we are getting close to the price reveal, that said, I find it hard to believe that most people are not going to want to unlock EDGE's full potential and get NTTR. As long as we have been waiting, that boogles my mind, that anyone would consider not getting it. I dont see there being 'fracturing' and 'chaos' from this release...

Keep in mind that apparently almost 90% of DCS players (myself included) just play solo. So, fragmentation isn't an issue. Not to mention, its crazy to demand everything for free. It takes a lot of work to make something like this...and it deserves to be paid content. DCSworld free will still have the current terrain with EDGE for free. Not to mention, ED's history with frequent and huge sales, it is unreasonable to demand them to give everything away for free. If you don't want to pay what it costs (when it is actually revealed), wait for a sale or something. But, don't demand them to give stuff away just because you don't want to spend $40.

Btw..regarding comparison to FSX.... look at the number of terrain paid mods for FSX. A lot of them are in the $40 range. That just includes a certain region/city with its airports at ultra high details.

Agreed. A new engine and terrain should breathe a bit of newness into whatever you fly.

Yep, I'm even looking forward to trying out some of the modules I never fly in decent scenery, it actually changes the whole experience. It may be an excuse for me to actually learn the Black Shark finally.

Just a reminder guys and gals, this thread is for discussion of DCSW2 features.

-Speculations about other features/wishlist items

-Comparisons in prices with products for other simulations

-Comparisons in MP community with other genres.

-Comparisons with other engines.

Do we know if DCS World 2.0 will update the current DSC World (e.g., like patch), or be a stand-alone install that doesn't require the current DCS World? I am asking because my SSD drive space is limited (thanks, GTA V), and I am curious if I can delete DCS World in preparation for 2.0?

+1 Would certainly love to do a Warthog campaign with Edge, since single-digit FPS keeps me from playing it now.

As it's a new engine [and a lot more new stuff] I'm gonna guess a new install.. Like you I am now limited in space [GTA V, SC] so out with the old and in with the new...

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Yeah, even if it is just an update, I'm doing a completely new install on a new SSD with plenty of space for future modules.

My bet is it will be highly recommended to do a clean install. As for myself this is the route I want to go anyways.

I hope it's released soon because this is exactly what I want to do, I want to play the campaign without the massive hits to my fps. I get smooth fps just flying around on my own, but the campaign kills all that. I also want to jump into the Oculus Rift and experience better fps with DCS 2.

Why are lots of people talking about SSD? What does this bring to DCS 2 that something like a Raptor HHD doesn't? Should I also install DCS 2 to a different drive then my OS?

Aside from load times, it won't have a huge impact. However, in general...https://youtu.be/NyEIPRDymsY

There is also much to be said for the 'no moving parts thing' :)

That's the thing we have no idea if edge will improve frame rate in those type of missions as we haven't seen any performance data and don't have it in our hands yet. Ai as far as we know doesn't get offloaded to the gpus so theoretical fpS improvements is that theoretical. Hope to see this in action soon as I never went past mission one in campaign due to that performance issues.

Well in the first post I noticed they mention a higher object count, but I'm wondering if they just mean for stationary objects such as buildings ect. Does anyone know if this also includes models that use ai such as tanks & infantry?

Likely all of the above, the object types in DCS are all seen the same way by the DirectX Engine.

I know that from a configuration management standpoint, it would be a lot easier to create and maintain an base install than both base install and upgrade from 1.0. Besides, it makes sense to have DCSW2 be a separate install so that you can keep 1.0 compatibility for multiplayer with people who don't have the DX11 hardware.

Posted (edited)

I assume DCS World 2 is going to completely replace 1.0. According to the poll here 96.8% of the respondents have DX11 hardware.

Hi there, i just wrote a reply about the high dollar currency price around the world and its relation to DCS products but i am afraid it was deleted. Can someone help me? I am just curious.

Isn't it confirmed though that the new engine will benefit from multicore?

The opposite, actually (see first post). Unless you count the possible benefits inherent in DX11.
