Great thing you released it one day earlier. Makes it possible to actually fly when it was planned to be out initially rdlaugh.png

Too bad the torrent speed crashed though. Was around 3-8MB/s going up and down constantly, but now it's down to 600KB/s for the last ~1.5GB. Have to stay up way longer than expected now since I don't want to abort it and I don't trust it enough to be able to continue from where I'd leave it... I'll be so dead tomorrow donotwant.png

But how often is it that we get such a major update? It will be worth it dealwithit.png

There really does need to be a better option - it's why so many people stick to steam, at least there you're guaranteed 8-9mb/s DL speed. This is medieval, I've got gigabit internet and I've been downloading for 11.5 hours now and it's only at 97% and running at 15kb/s. The HTTP download is barely better - a static 150kb/s for that. So I've got the choice of the torrent which probably averages more like 300kb/s, or the HTTP for a guaranteed 150kb/s. This is absurd.

Outstanding job, it was well worth the wait, it only gets better from here.

If you don't have the Open Beta installed, use the updater with DCS_Updater.exe update @openbeta to convert your 1.5.8 Stable Release installation to the Open Beta branch and download 2.5.

More info on how to use the updater can be found here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

Thank you for this post, it helped me a great deal for the 2.5 update

^ I think he asks about standalone installer for Open Beta :D. In that case, it should be out today or tomorrow.

Patience was never really my strong point when it comes to DCS, so I've changed my stable 1.58 to Open beta, and as far as I can tell, it's updating to 2.5.. it's downloading a whopping 50GB worth of something.

In Hindsight, I was probably better off waiting the extra time to have standalone updater, and uninstalling either my 2.2 or my 1.58 version, it's quite possible, the bulk of this download is actually my Nevada map, as that ****er comes in at 30GB.

Judging by the time so far, on my shit connection, the standalone updater might be available before this "update" is complete !! :D

Happy Flying chaps, so far all the updated terrain videos appearing on YouTube are ranting about the "stunning" update, and it's extremely positive.

I've returned to DCS after a long hiatus, after modding for Arma3 for a couple of years, and super stoked to get bak into the air again

I am also the one waiting for the release version. Sooner or later it will come. Its better to play 1.5 stable version than 2.5 beta version. let the dust settle down.

wow, my missions worked, scripting so far is working, ground units are behaving so much better, not perfect, but better, they ford and cross rivers with some apparent thought, the road system and bridge system is greatly built upon opening up new possibilities, the forests are amazing and CA has changed as will the approach to using forests. had to take my VR settings down a few notches, but also working.

I'm close to being as surprised as I get with DCS and i am tough to please. Good job ED team!

I don't have Open Beta installed, only the release version of 1.5.8. Looks like the Open Beta download file is not available any more :-(

EDIT:

Got it! Simply download the Open Alpha version. It takes you automatically to 2.5 Open Beta

Uhm, are you sure about this? The Open Alpha should not update to 2.5 Open Beta automatically.

I have installed the 2.2 Open Alpha and the 1.5.8 Open Beta and already updated to 2.5. Now the game is downloading 40+ GB!!! to install all the modules. I thought if i have installed 2.2 i save some download size? At least i download with ~2MB/sec (upload 1,5 MB/sec).

Alpenwolf, may I ask where you downloaded the Open Alpha version from?

From their official website:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/

Uhm, are you sure about this? The Open Alpha should not update to 2.5 Open Beta automatically.

Had to work my way around it. It doesn't do that automatically, you're right.

Does that mean, that you used the updater with the DCS_Updater.exe update @openbeta command on your 2.2 Open Alpha to convert it to 2.5 Open Beta and it worked?
