Looks like trains are being given some love at last.

" SAIPAN CH00 CH00 was an important supply means, particularly in the Aslito Airfield-Charan Kanoa-Garapan area"

25 June 1944 - Aslito Airfield would hereafter be conducted under Island Command supervision. The little narrow-gauge railroad that ran from Charan Kanoa up to Aslito Airfield was put to good use, gasoline and bombs being carried on its tiny cars, pulled by a hastily repaired steam locomotive"

Interesting hey !

Thanks ED

The old Sugar Mill Trains will be great !

They were first used to transport Sugar Cane then Japanese supplies and troops.

Then taken over by the Americans to move their supplies and troops around the islands.

There was over 160km of track and carried 240 tonne / km per day.

The island of Saipan had a long narrow gauge railway that circled the island.

One route was from Charan-Kanoa to Aslito Airfield.

Other islands had rail networks from the sugar plantations.

It will be interesting what ED includes - it looks great so far 🤓

So some great WW2 missions can be created for either Japanese or Americans operating the trains before and after takeover  🤩

Theres one of the original steam locomotive relics in sugar king park on Saipan island 😎.

Interesting It looks very much like ED used it to create the DCS version.

Nice Work ED !

Great spot Waterman, must have made your day 😀

Your dedication to the steam community is commendable 🙏

Thanks ggrewe yes it did - it will open up a lot of exciting possibilities.

Im hoping the train wheels rotation / valvegear "arg 8" and the Deactivation problems are sorted out in an update or when the islands are released.

If so then its full steam ahead again for my other Steam Trains.

DCS could even see its first train passengers well combat troops in the open sugar cane wagons !

cheers

Your mods look awesome, looking forward to seeing them in DCS some day 👍

The period trains & carriages, rail guns & hopefully some troop & tank transports to make juicy targets?

Well done ED 🙂.

Be good to have it all working. Should open the rail network for Modders like Waterman and we all get more from it. Well done for banging the drum Waterman, look forward to seeing it all roll out 🙂.

Hey, how is this proggressing ?  And the Asset Pack ?  Can we expect a new 70s, 80s  Asset Pack from ED  anytime soon ?

We know from newsletters that there will be Cold War Assets Pack developed by Ugra Media for phase 3 of their Germany map. 1980s stuff mostly it seems. It's not in "anytime soon" category, though.

I don't see it available for down load? I have the DCS Marians modern map, but don't see the WWII one available.

You need to update DCS first, only the latest version includes this Map:

Does Marianas modern need to be installed in order to use the WW2 version? In other words, if I only want Marianas for WW2, can I uninstall the original, modern Marianas?

They are independent of each other, but keep in mind that Marianas is just 14 GB and Marianas WW2 just 9 GB ... if your drive is almost full it won't make much of a difference deleting one of them.

That's right, the WW2 version looks really great and has good optimization (you know, fewer objects). Compared to the current version, it's a bit empty (which is normal), but also in terms of quality, great work has been done. It's almost begging for a new WW2 map with Solomon Islands + part of Papua New Guinea or the Philippines.
