In the past we generally waited until a 3rd party module was quite far along in development; however, this has resulted in duplicated efforts and inefficiencies. Instead, once a 3rd party module has a completed license agreement, we will now announce it to allow the 3rd party to “plant a flag” and avoid duplicated efforts. Once a 3rd party project is roughly six months away from release based on an internal evaluation, more news and updates will be made available. Because we have several 3rd party projects in development, and the change in announcement policy, we have had a flurry of announcement activity. We wish Crosstail studios all the best with their project.14 points

Hello everyone! Since we started making our slew upgrade, one thing that has come up several times is the limited axis update rate for the slew axis. It doesn’t update as quickly as the other throttle axes, which has meant that even after upgrading the physical slew the axis still doesn’t work as well as it could. This was a limitation inside the throttle firmware, so couldn’t be changed by the slew upgrade directly. Other the last few months I have been working on reverse engineering the Warthog throttle firmware, so I could modify it to increase the slew axis speed. I am pleased to announce our first custom Warthog throttle firmware version, which removes this limitation and runs the slew axis at full speed! Delta_Sim_Fast_Slew_v100.tmf is released free of charge, and is compatible with all our slew upgrades, including the force sensor. Please find the firmware file and install instructions attached for download. You will need the Thrustmaster firmware update tool installed to do the update. This comes with the Thrustmaster Warthog driver package, so you probably have it installed already, or it can be downloaded from the Thrustmaster website. The introduction of DCS 2.8 caused some problems with the previous version, so I decided to revamp it and enhance with some new features. The greatest change comes with the application of the sweetfx shaders which, of course, are optional but highly recommended. Dear all, I recently had both the luck and opportunity to sit down with @Enigma89 for an interview. I very much enjoyed being his guest, and would like to express my thanks here again! I found his approach very refreshing and interesting, and while I am sure I talked too much as usual, I hope those of you who are interested, enjoy it, too. This time we talk less about day to day development, roadmaps and updates and more about some of the thought process that stands behind - at least some of - the things we do. We also talk a bit about the history of Multiplayer in DCS in general, the role of Cold War and the Cold War Server in it in particular, and how that affects us as developers. Боевой интеллект Новые возможности ИИ Ближний воздушный бой При ведении ближнего воздушного боя искусственный интеллект (ИИ) будет учитывать эксплуатационные и манёвренные свойства конкретного типа ЛА и будет выбирать тактику одного витка (с выходом лоб в лоб), тактику двух витков (с выходом в хвост), либо их комбинацию. Это приведёт к кардинальным различиям в ведении боя в зависимости от типа; бой против Вайпера будет отличаться от боя с Хорнетом. При построении манёвра ИИ будет стремится занять более выгодное положение для начала разворота и диктовать условия основываясь на возможностях ЛА противника, его пространственном положении и доступной энергии. Истребитель, предпочитающий тактику одного витка будет стремиться сократить пространство для разворота, в то время как истребитель предпочитающий тактику двух витков будет стараться быть быстрее противника, чтобы к концу второго витка выйти ему в хвост. На примере двух витков можно сказать, что ИИ сможет лучше поддерживать оптимальную скорость в вираже и правильно корректировать положение носа выше или ниже горизонта для того, чтобы увеличить скорость виража или преобразовать избыток кинетической энергии в высоту. Настройка уровня опытности будет определять предельно возможную перегрузку, которую сможет развить самолёт управляемый ботом. Ас будет развивать максимальные перегрузки и выдерживать оптимальные скорости как в вираже так и на вертикали. В зависимости от складывающейся обстановки ИИ сможет переключаться между «одним витком» и «двумя витками» исходя из ракурса и скорости сближения противника. Поведение ИИ будет значительно более динамичным и непредсказуемым. Здесь надо отметить, что поршневая авиация Второй Мировой ввиду значительных отличий от реактивной в тяговооруженности и аэродинамике потребует несколько другого подхода в части ведения ближнего воздушного боя. For anyone wondering about the map; it is indeed southern Guam. It's the Fena Valley Reservoir. Excuse my beyond horrendous absolutely minimal settings on my work computer, but you can see it indeed matches up. So no, it's nothing new, and not the WWII version of the map either.4 points

Another important thing to keep in mind is that the Meteor has a 2 way datalink, and therefore can also be guided based on target data provided by pretty much any compatible donour which is being received by the Eurofighter firing the missile, so breaking direct line of sight and hiding behind terrain won't work as long as somebody else is still seeing you with their radar and sending your position via DL. And with the Eurofighter having such a small RCS and not even having to turn on its radar to engage, you are almost always going to loose the fight (if you even know that you're in one) This all of course is only valid if Heatblur properly implements this rather important feature of the Meteor, since some of it is still very much classified.4 points

I hope they will fix it before the module leaves EA. This seems like such a half-baked feature. IRL, Mavs can be boresighted to HUD, FCR and the TGP, maybe also the HMD, and more often than not, those boresights will not coincide. TGP is especially important because of handoff, but it should be useful for every sensor.4 points

In DCS - ALL RADARs (Airborne/Ship/Ground) CANNOT BE AFFECTED BY CHAFF AT ALL, there is no ccm_k0 value in Lua code in any radar in game. CHAFF vulnerability factor ccm_k0 only present in missile Lua codes. Because of this, any radar in game will have you "locked" (not literally), except you notch him or fly out of its limits. - THIS IS WRONG! Because of various foil stripes length packed into single chaff, it has an effect on most of the radar frequency ranges and will affect both missiles (active or passive) and radars (search or tracking) - generating tracking errors or a radar break-lock. DOPPLER RADAR: Against Doppler radars, self-protection chaff is most effective when dispensed at or near the beam, relative to the threat radar. Doppler processing radars will continue to track the aircraft unless it also has a relative velocity of zero. This occurs when the aircraft is abeam the radar. Even Doppler radars can have problems with chaff, doppler effect during foil translation can generate inside of the could reflected radar waves with phase shift recognized by Doppler radar as high relative radial speed - which is not filtered out by doppler gate. Considering Chaff cloud as just falling cloud of metallic foils is very inaccurate assumption. SAM RADAR TRACK WHILE SCAN Chaff employed against a track-while-scan (TWS) radar is designed to put multiple targets, with an RCS greater than the aircraft, in the resolution cell of the horizontal and vertical radar beams. Since the tracking loop tracks the largest return, the TWS radar will automatically switch to the chaff. After dispensing chaff, the pilot can maneuver vertically or horizontally to move the aircraft out of the resolution cell. SAM TWS is not the same as airborne TWS, which also use Doppler filter to filter out most of chaff effects. In DCS some late cold war/modern SAM systems able to search while tracking multiple targets. CONICAL SCAN RADAR - very vulnerable to chaffs. Burst chaff dispensing, employed during the final phase of an engagement by air-to-air or surface-to-air weapons, can generate tracking errors or a radar break-lock. The most dominant factor in chaff effectiveness is the radar cross section of the chaff compared to the airplane at the time when airplane and chaff are in the same resolution cell (angular and range). Chaff cloud have largest RCS reflection when viewed from the side of flight direction and smallest from the front and aft. Aircraft lowest RCS reflections are roughly around 45° off the nose or tail of the aircraft. Aspect is important when developing self-protection maneuvering and chaff dispensing tactics against threat radars. Since the typical fighter aircraft RCS varies between 1 and 10 square meters, depending upon frequency and aspect, the RR-170 chaff cartridge should provide a sufficient RCS to mask the aircraft RCS. In DCS some active radar missiles and older SAM systems. MONOPULSE RADAR - also vulnerable to chaffs.Chaff employed against a monopulse radar is designed to put multiple targets in at least two of the tracking beams. This generates errors in the azimuth, elevation, and range tracking circuits. Multiple chaff targets continue to generate azimuth and elevation errors that can eventually generate a break-lock condition, as the radar transfers lock-on to the chaff. Chaff is most effective against monopulse radars when employed on the beam in order to create the maximum angular tracking error. In DCS some active radar missiles and late Cold War SAM systems. (some of above mentioned informations comes from "Electronic Warfare Fundamentals 2000" book, some from "Characteristics and experimental study of radar scattering foil")3 points

I'd like to see more stuff that makes the world come alive. You can spawn at a major international airport, and there's nothing but you. One of the best modules ED has made, was the Super Carrier. You went from an empty Stennis to a deck that feels alive. That needs to be done "globally". Taxiing aircraft at airports, crews working, airliners arriving and departing with ATC chatter. Random airliners flying when you're on your way to or from the AO. The maps need filled in to become alive. Not just players. And it should be auto generated, not having to spend 36 hours in the ME to get a plane working juuuuuuust right. Also, official ED servers. A PVE and PVP server for each map that can hold hundreds/thousands of players. Right now we have 9 million servers and only a few people in each except for a few populated ones. I'd like to see a few severs with hundreds of players, maybe with set events. A huge Blue vs Red event every Saturday at 9 PM Eastern, whatever. 100 v 100, you name it. Just a few things. I agree largely with the sentiment, however, how would a non-involved 3rd party be privy to information discussed between ED and another 3rd party if it were not publicly announced? One could invest a lot of time and effort on a project to present to ED only to find that someone else is already further ahead.3 points

Yeah my issue is kind of the same. They're showing off untextured models (Grinnellis Super Sabre), that we shouldn't be expecting for another what.. 3 years at minimum? And we still have ZERO answers on what's going on with the base of DCS... The hype train can only roll for so long when literally not a single timeline is in the eyes of the public. "Normal" gaming companies hype things when they're within a few month's release... at most! Meanwhile what we have here is ... literally no ETA. We still have videos from last year showing off things unreleased to the public, and "no news" on them. And entire portions of maps from videos at the start of the year with no comment on those either. Same with the weather which has had broken aspects for a year and a half now, and still not a PEEP about multithreading. There has to be news on literally any of this stuff.... It's mind blowing that there's nothing to talk about. But they can talk about stuff well over a year out?????????? You're not making any sense ED.3 points

I did some testing, comparing top speed (IAS by status bar) at 2000m level (Mil power, inf fuel, w/ center tank and flares), in various R-60's layouts. I'm led to think if there is suposed to have more drag then it is not modeled. Altough the weight is modeled, it add an extra 5kg for each double rack compared to 2x singles. So for all pratical purposes you can take into account just the weight and drag of the missiles itself and difference in performance should be unnoticeable for layout with the same number of missiles. Here are my results: EDIT: EXTRA ABSURD TEST: I tried equiping 8xR-60's in 4 double racks and just fire them all, and then measure the top speed again. And God there is something very wrong here. The top speed was 1008 km/h. More than without any rack/missiles equiped. Then I tested 4 single racks, after firing them all the top speed was 967km/h, virtualy the same speed as with all the missiles in them. So I don't know what to think of it. With the double racks there is some imaginary negative drag after firing, in the single one it seems the R-60's have no drag. And it gets even weirder when you drop the racks... the... plane... loses... speed... when... the... racks... are... ditched... Desktop 2022 09 09 14 12 50 226 _comp.m4v Anyway. A-1H is a presale buy for me for sure. I don't need Vietnam to make that an enjoyable module (doesn't mean we can't get it, but what a fun COIN aircraft for fictional scenarios). Best of the new announcements since the Kola map. I think this is fair. So many announcements lately I can't believe all of them (or maybe most of them) are anywhere near ready for OB. I'm in the minority, but I do prefer announcements made closer to when a module is near completion to avoid the overhype.3 points

I'm acting like a freaked out BTS groupie for the Skyraider! Been quietly hoping for this for years now! With the A-1H, the F-8, the F-4, A-4, and maybe one day the A-7, we'd have a nice busy deck for Vietnam! ED, please get us an attack carrier like Oriskany, Intrepid, Yorktown, Coral Sea to fly these vietnam warbirds into the jungle!3 points

Es ist auch sehr hilfreich, sich mit den Fähigkeiten, Waffen und Sensoren/Radartypen der gegnerischen Maschinen auseinanderzusetzen. So haben die MiG-29 und Su-27 (Su-33) das gleiche Radar verbaut. Auf dem RWR wird der "erkannte" Radar-Emitter angezeigt, also kann eine (29) auch eine Su-27 sein. Die haben regelmäßig Mittelstrecken IR-Lenkflugkörper dabei und die werden eben nicht von deinen Sensoren erfasst, bis es anklopft. Hier hilft dann nur im Briefing zu schauen, welche Bedrohungen erwartet werden. Siehst du ein (29) auf dem RWR und/oder klassifiziert dein Radar den Gegner als Su-27 etc. sollte man davon ausgehen, dass die eine R-27ET (IR-Suchkopf) auf einen feuert, sobald man nahe genug ist. Man versucht also, pro-aktiv eine eigene AMRAAM zu feiern, um den Gegner "zu beschäftigen" und vermeidet ihm frontal in die Arme zu fliegen. Auch aktiv Radargelenkte Flugkörper melden nicht direkt, dass sie "unterwegs" sind. Ein "Lock" (didel-didel) bedeutet in der Regel ab jetzt kann jederzeit ein Fox 3 (Radargelenkter Flugkörper mit eigenem, aktiven Sucher) unterwegs sein und erst wenn der Suchkopf sein Radar anschaltet, meldet dein RWR mit (M) die anfliegende Missile und deren Anflugrichtung. Dann ist es höchste Zeit hart abzudrehen und Gegenmaßnahmen zu werfen... Eine aktive Missile ist schwierig abzuwehren. Auch wichtig: der RWR zeigt nur die Richtung und "Gefährlichkeit" des Radar-Emitters! Die Ringe haben NICHTS mit Entfernung zu tun!3 points

As the pedals move forward and backward when you use the adjustment handle (opposite the alternate gear extension handle) an arrow moves up and down that scale to tell you the position of the pedals. It’s just so the pilot can quickly set them to the same spot every time in every jet they fly for consistency sake. It’s important for muscle memory and repeatable habit patterns I guess3 points

no.. Nearly all HPRF waveforms dont perform range 'detection'. Range is too ambiguous to be detected. It can however be 'resolved' after targets are detected. A single "range bin" (otherwise described as having no range bins) is the norm for HPRF. Range is measured 'post detection' via freq modulated ranging (FMR) (except in VS) In radar engineering, "detection" "post-detection" "resolving" all have very specific meanings.3 points

My only beef in this whole thing is if the darn program is not going to be supported any longer, take the link down from the Vaicom Website to purchase the program. I purchased it quite some time ago and more than got my money's worth out of it so I don't feel jipped out of anything so to speak. I do hope Hollywood is well and nothing unfortunate has happened. As things stand now I could not in good conscience recommend purchasing this program to anyone. At the same time I don't see any good alternatives in the same class as Vaicom Pro. I will however continue to use mine as long as I possibly can.3 points

Я как то пытался сделать обучающую кампанию для Ми-8. По Радиоборудованию. Замутил несколько миссий. Все были нелинейными . С около 10-ка разных сценариев ( генерируемых автоматически) то есть каждый раз миссия будет отличаться. Причем в миссиях даже были свои концовки и сценарии для ИИ (которые шли фоном) Потратил на одну только миссию месяц. Ну и короче, вышел новый Кавказ и все мои зоны, и прочие наземные обьекты - все накрылось медным тазом. Миссия уже работала с косяками. На этом мои увлечения редактором закончились.3 points
