  1. Chuck's Guide to the AH-64D is finally available! *** Link: https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/ah-64d/ *** I am a few months behind schedule and I apologize to all of you for that. This project was a huge undertaking, and I still have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that I started working on it back in March of this year... 9 months ago. As they say in the business, I was stuck in scope creep hell for a while. The Apache is one of the most complex modules in DCS, but I do not think it is prohibitively difficult to learn. The page count (770) might seem daunting at first, but keep in mind that the operation of the AH-64 is overall not that complicated once you understand the basics. It's a machine of war with modern capabilities that can do many, many things in all sorts of environments. As some of you may know, the Mudspike website is shutting down. With the help of a kind and generous soul, I have found a new home at https://chucksguides.com/, which is where you will find the latest versions of my guides. The next few weeks will be a kind of "test run" to work out the kinks and see what works (or not) with the website. Expect some changes/improvements down the line, but I believe what we have now is functional enough to be useful to the community. Happy reading and Merry Christmas to all of you! Chuck

Wonders why he can't accelerate. Uses meme about proverbial good times making men soft. Complains when overperformance is moderated to match the tables. Doesn't realize the hypocrisy of his argument. *shakes head*

  7. Thank you. I can see how the plane behaves with such a loadout. It seems to me the problem here is not the F-5 FM: in real life, a Smokewinder pod is supposed to weigh 92 kg (source) in the sim, a Smokewinder pod weighs... 200 kg! I'll report this to devs. Once the weight gets corrected, we'll see how the F-5 behave.

  9. Yes, there is. Other people use and understand actual BFM tactics. You appear to have heard the advice, but you don't actually understand where it came from. In air combat, you not only need to know what to do, you need to know why you're doing it. Only that lets you make a gameplan that will, if the enemy isn't far better than you, put you in the right place. Look up Growling Sidewinder, his videos don't always the best flying, but they typically show BFM concepts very nicely. The Hornet turns great, but in vertical maneuvers, it'll fall out of the sky before the Tomcat does. Understand the physics involved, then understand how they apply to specific airframes. Also note, the Hornet is renowned for the ability to point its nose. If whoever you're fighting is a good marksman, you can get sniped on a high angle pass without being able to do whole lot about it. For that, you need to recognize him pulling in for a shot, pull at just the right time to throw it off, and then be ready to exploit him being in a low energy state. Oh, and forget the maneuver flaps. They're great if you need to salvage a bad situation, but if you do things right, you shouldn't ever end up in a situation where they'll deploy. Don't get slow, except if you're at the top of a loop. Also, don't get hung up on a specific speed. Corner speed is just one thing. Practice against AI, it got pretty good at BFM lately, but also remember humans are a bigger challenge than even "Ace" AI. So make sure you can reliably splash those before mixing it up in MP.

  11. Here are a pictures with the cones of all 4 missile directional finders. To make it clear what area they cover. Each direction finder has a visibility cone with an angle of 110 degrees. It is worth noting that there are noticeable dips between the direction finders at 12, 3, 6 and 9 hours. That is, from these directions, missiles can arrival undetected just above the helicopter.

  13. Happy Holidays Everyone, Progress on the new App is progressing. The core is finished and most of the UI Art is done as well, pending my bad habit of wanting to re-do things to get the best look possible. There is still a good amount of sub-function code to be written and debugged, especially thread syncing between primary and sub functions as well as between primary functions. The App itself is about 85% functional, as stated, with some sub-function code to be written, synced and tested. The only setback so far has been to outside parameters. A few weeks ago, I fractured my left hand, and possibly tore ligaments (MRI Pending). My left hand and lower arm are in a cast, and I am unable to type with it at the present time. That being said, the code work is being done one handed, Just a little slower. Once the App features are finalized and the app is in internal testing, I will be releasing detailed information, and media. The Goal is still Q1 2023, and there's no reason that goal can't be met. Alas, I do not leave you with nothing, being the holidays and all, I leave you with the image below of the new UI Home screen (still WIP, and relevent info redacted of course).

  15. OP, I have no advice to give you with regards to BFM. I still routinely lose at it, despite putting a little over 1000 hours into DCS over the past couple of years. However, after reading this entire thread I have one observation. You have become so tightly focused on what you believe the problem to be that you can not see anything else. Your current mindset is not receptive to learning, you are resistant and argumentative to any advice people have given you. It might be worth taking a break from DCS for a while in order to regain your perspective. This hobby of ours is amazing fun, but if it stops being fun have a break. You will never solve any problem by repeatedly basing yourself over the head with it to the point of frustration.

  16. ...which is why airframe matters more in a heater fight than in guns only. Different missiles, some aircraft have JHMCS and some don't, things like that. Even more in a BVR fight, where speed and radar make some aircraft inherently better at this than others. That you didn't realize that what you wrote only proves my point tells me that you don't understand what you're talking about. Again, if you don't understand air combat, you're not going to get any good at it. In fact, if you try to fight like you said in a heater duel, you won't last very long. There's a lot more to it than "shoot, crank and run". Both Tomcat and Hornet are in early access. That means flight models are WIP, and as such, subject to change. You likely got used to an early iteration of the Tomcat's FM that gave you unrealistic advantage. Stripped of that advantage, you don't actually know how to fight. If you post a track of one of your fights, someone can likely tell you exactly what you did wrong and what your opponent did right.

  17. The problem isn't that the F-18 doesn't "bleed" speed, it's that its lacking pitch authority at higher speeds. It's not an energy problem so much as it is a FCS/FM problem, it can't pull hard enough to lose speed and prevent arcing. You can easily test this by starting at 380 knots, 15000 feet and going into afterburner and performing a split S. In the real world you'd be able to pull hard enough to maintain control of your speed, in DCS you'll end up exiting the turn at 500 knots due to a lack of pitch authority.

  19. Hi Guys, I run a DCS dedicated server in the UK with SRS. It does not connect to anything else, it only runs a DCS and SRS server. It was hacked sometime today and a trojan virus hidden as VPC.exe did a crypto ransomware attack. Locked out my whole desktop and locked all my drives. Windows was on :C and anything for the servers was on :E. Nothing is downloaded to this machine, not even emails are checked. My first sign of a problem was higher than normal wattage being used on my plug in watt meter. Then I noticed 100% usage on the CPU and on board graphics. The CPU temp being overly high was also an obvious sign. Other signs were SRS cutting out at random for various users. Severe stuttering and lagging were also reported before the desktop and any access was locked out completely. The servers were the DCS Hooligans so to anyone using them I am sorry but it will be down for the near future. If your running a server take whatever precaution or checks you see necessary as this experience genuinely sucks. I hope this does not happen to anyone else and it is an isolated incident. Can any experts on here advise on the potential that this could have carried via remote access hidden in a .miz file?? I share mission files with a PC in the USA, only concerned for my mates computer. Cheers take it easy all.

  20. Hello there! I’m not much of a benchmarkers but thought I’d share my initial and bery crude benchmark results. I went from a 2080 non-super to the AMD reference 7900XTX. On the Supercarrier, in rain, I went from 40 to 84 fps. On a low level run over Cyprus, I went from 49 to 113. All settings were kept the same. There is still some noticable microstuttering from time to time with frametimes bouncing a little. I’ll include a graph below. Anyway, expect a good doubling of FPS if you bite the bullet! I’m on a monitor, 5120x1440. MSAA off.

  21. I bought this module via current Christmas sale. Boy what a thrill! This thing feels like a sportwagon compared to the Hornet (which I love none the lesser). I very much like the canopy reflections, and the black out, red out and g-loc effects are so uncanny on spot - in VR I this module gives me the chills! Thank to the developers - why didn't I try this one earlier? The last time I "flew" the Viper was in 1998 or so via "Falcon 4.0". Now I'm inside it!

  22. The F-4E was show by ED with other features on the "2022 and beyond" video by ED on 24 December 2021... and thinking some "little" problem as the "Ukrainan War" never will to happens. Some need remenber ED close your develop studios on moscow and get away to other point of world.... Dubai I think, and HB, with show your F-4E video on 25 January 2022... has get problems with the your develop teams on Ukraine, and the tailored three year pass of the Covid sick... Many modules and features has been delayed by very clear points by ED and 3rd parties... recomend wait a little, all coming as other modules and features as F/A-18C, F-16C, Mi-24P, AH-64D, etc.... hay only a matter of time.

  23. And nobody owes you one either, especially with that attitude of yours, and especially not our SMEs, who have nothing better to do than to ponder to your not at all exaggerated complaints, backed up by actual proof and no hurt feelings at all. sarcasm over. I hate to break it to you, but after just smacking down everyone’s well meant advice and your unwillingness to start looking at what maybe went wrong on your end, no one will be very motivated to help you any further. You squandered that pretty nicely. And I also hate to break it to you, but whether you win or lose in the F14 is really none of our business, as much as we wish you to be successful. This thread is leading nowhere like this. I suggest you take a step back, enjoy Christmas a bit and come back when you cooled off and when you are actually willing to talk with us and members of this forum in a normal and courteous manner. If you continue with such an attitude we’ll close the thread. Happy Holidays.

  32. Thanks for the tracks! I'll check when I'm back at my PC after Christmas, unless someone beats me to it. OP said it was, the screenshots show it to be armed (a bit hard to see depending on the perspective), and if Master Arm was off, no weapon would show with a green status on the DSMS screenshots. From OP's description and the screenshots, this seems to be something a little more complicated than forgetting a single switch.

  34. You essentially create a modifier, which while held down changes/creates virtual axis which can be assigned to either individual axis for each wheel or apply both wheels. Also, as someone else mentioned, these pedals are stupid precise allowing for a very fine control input I'd have to go back and look exactly how my brakes are set up, it's been years since I've messed with it. Below posts go over it and may have a better way of doing it. VKB Forums: http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?t=3597

  35. OP, it sounds like you've come to the conclusion that the module isn't as competitive as it used to be in the specific and controlled environment of online competitive BFM. You may well be correct in that assessment, and I would think trends showing top players having consistent results and top rankings with certain planes would either support or invalidate that contention. The better question is, why do you care what other players think? It's a subset of an internet gaming community focused on competitive aspects, and if you've spent any time in such groups, you must be well aware of the fact that 90% of players don't know what they're talking about, and there will always be someone to insist a certain weapon or vehicle is competitive when it's clearly not. Or conversely that some load out or class is balanced when it's clearly overpowered in relation to other choices. At the end of the day, with players of comparable skill levels, the actual performance of a vehicle or weapon or class in a game environment will have an impact on outcome despite Top Gun fans claiming it's "the man in the box". Best to just move on and fly something you feel is more effective, if what you care about is winning.

  37. Setting the Alert 5 was done by performing a normal aircraft startup (has to be a full ready-7 alignment), taxiing to the catapult, and then performing a normal shutdown. Now you’ve got a valid potential SHA. The airplane cannot be moved and the boat must remain on that heading, or you can no longer perform a SHA on startup. On an Alert 5 launch, you started the engines, turned up the AWG-9, ran the alignment (you can start the alignment even before the AWG-9 finished booting up) and launched. No tests in the front seat, no OBC, no nothing. Start the engines, get the alignment, and go.

  41. I, too, would appreciate it very much if in a future Sinai map variant the road network, cities, ports, airports etc. of the time period 1967-1973 were represented. This would allow us to simulate major conflicts such as the 6 Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Jom Kippur/October War. A simulation of the Suez conflict of 1956 would also be possible.

  44. You "run a server". Do you own the server hardware or do you actually rent a server from a hosting company? If the server in reality is a hosting company, then sue the life out of them. If the server is yours, then the question is: did you disable anything you don't need, and run a tight firewall? By disable "anything you don't need", on my systems that means stuff like Windows Store is unable to function because certain system features are deleted. You can't run a Windows box without performing some major surgery if you want to keep it even slightly secure.
