Thanks, Beldin, Everyone, Beldin has put in a lot of hours updating and editing the America layouts. He has done a really great job with the landing spots. Please PM him if you would like to test it and give him some feedback. Thanks.8 points

Hello all, The Admiral was kind enough to allow me to play around with some updates to his USS America LHA-6 MOD. I've expanded the Mod to include all 4 of the planned ships, updated the sensors/weapons to current standards, I think, and created 3 different spawn layouts for the deck. Standard, Sea Control and Air Assault. While meant for Ai play players can spawn and takeoff from the deck. My attempts at landing did not end well and I've not even tried a vertical landing but it should work. Ai landings work to a point but are still a wip. If you would like to help in some of the final testing please PM me. Any brave Harrier pilots that can confirm player landing are possible and that I'm just a really poor pilot would be helpful. Any many thanks to the Admiral for all the great ships8 points

Yes ahah the horrible hack worked. It looks like the Oculus runtime isn't properly resetting their frame state machine upon beginning a new session. I had to add some unnecessary calls (that would fail on non-Oculus platform) to force it back to a good state. I will report the issue to the Oculus dev. I'll have that new version out later this week. Thank you @Sile for all the testing!7 points

I understand what you are trying to say, however DCS is complex, and the complexity grows as time goes on, updates are made, new features are added, this cycle will continue. Starting from scratch would be just stupid at this point. To get to this level of simulation takes years of work. The code is complex, and as Kate once said spaghetti like, but code gets rewritten as needed. I know your "duck tape" comment is in jest, but DCS has never been more stable than it is now, the testing being done by volunteer closed testers and our QA has much improved over the years. So I would say as I always do, you need to be patient and try to understand the complexity the teams are working with, that complexity will always be there, it is the nature of producing simulations at this level and does take time. thanks4 points

ALL of our 4th Gen Legacy fighters are amazing platforms, and we are being treated to the Golden Age of mil flight sim by ED right now. However... Almost weekly, I'll come across some YT video of a DCS PvP BFM fight, a real world Hornet driver praising the jet, real world non-Hornet driver praising the jet, etc...when, invariably, someone in the comment section (or in the ole' forums) will say something like the following under an interview with former F-14D Tomcat & F/A-18A Hornet Pilot Mike Vizcarra (below): and other general slams such as: "The Hornet is a lame duck" "The Tomcat is superior in BFM" "The Viper is superior in every way, especially in BFM" "The Eagle is superior in BFM" "The DCS Hornet is overpowered because I lost to it in BFM" etc. etc. It seems to me that the Legacy Hornet (especially the big-engine Charlie) is one of the most misunderstood, underrated dogfighters in the world. For those who are interested, I thought I'd drop you a bunch of (mostly) time-stamped links to various real world F-15C, F-15E, F-14A/D, F-16C T-bird, and Legacy Hornet crew praising the Legacy Charlie and its WVR performance, and busting some other coffee-table-book-myths about the Legacy Hornet. One thing to note: ALL of the men here have plenty of DACT experience against every 4th Gen USAF/Navy fighters (which of course many of them talk about if you want to watch the whole video). Finally, HUGE shout outs to Mike and Steve at AC Interview and 10 Percent True! If you don't subscribe to either of these guys' online content, you are missing out BIG TIME. Enjoy... It's nice to finally see some update, but I'm very curious how the optimization in VR looks like and how the map works and how many generates FPS, even at this stage in VR. It's not hard to put a lot of objects on it, but the trick is to make it work properly with maximum performance. I hope that the authors realize that many people use VR in DCS and how important it is that the map should be nicely done but not cause FPS problems. I hope they won't repeat the mistakes of Razbam's South Atlantic map, and the performance will be not worse than Syria and Sinai or the Caucasus (the best way). It should also be remembered that the map is to be filled with AI later (by users or campaign makers), so with an exaggerated amount of details and objects it may become unplayable. It's important to find a compromise and test it thoroughly before release and during development. It's not MSFS, the map is supposed to work great as a priority, and as a second priority it has to look good, not in reverse order. Its very important.2 points

If they would all just give them a unique name and default name we could choose either or. eg turn try_find_assigned_viewport("LEFT_MFCD") into try_find_assigned_viewport("WSO_LEFT_MFCD", "LEFT_MFCD") Then if you make an entry in your config file for WSO_LEFT_MFCD, that would take priority over LEFT_MFCD Several modules already follow this approach so it's not something new, and would take a few moments to implement. The Ka50 does it with the ABRIS and Shkval try_find_assigned_viewport("ABRIS","RIGHT_MFCD") try_find_assigned_viewport("Shkval","LEFT_MFCD") The JF-17 does it with all its displays try_find_assigned_viewport('JF17_LEFT_MFCD', 'LEFT_MFCD') and the Apache does it with the TEDAC, albeit slightly differently if not try_find_assigned_viewport("TEDAC") then try_find_assigned_viewport("CENTER_MFCD") end2 points

Hello everyone, thanks for your attention to mods! I haven't got my affairs in order yet, but I need advice on structures. how to make glowing night windows how to make an animation of destruction (falling into the ground) how to add smoke So far I've only found a way to make the building a "ship" structure, but this is nonsense and I'd like to find another way.2 points

Mostly play single player tbh, but when online its just a different level.... Last time online I jumped two 109's got a lucky first burst on one and got his engine, ran out of ammo in the fight that followed with no2 and got chased all the way back to Dover .... I though I was dead but he must have been out of ammo as he eventuly formed up, wagged his wings and vanished back over the channel....... DCS is just WOW when things like that happen......2 points

Not sure what you are getting at here. Or where his personal liking came in. I simply disagreed with his assertion it was the best headset currently as imho there really is not one, due to the vast differences in users and what they look for in a headset. Not a big deal really just expressing my opinion.2 points

Unless the comments like “spaghetti code” is from the devs themselves, I’d be careful about the assumptions. After all, most of us have little genuine understanding of building applications and systems and the implications and typical processes. For all we know, the MT update is a clean sheet rebuild of parts of the code and unless a dev says otherwise, it’s just speculation. What I do know is that I also have other aerial combat sims and a couple of the best know Civ sims. From my perspective, DCS: - looks better, eg significantly more detailed than the other combat sims. I was out in the big Civ sim yesterday and in helicopter, low to the ground, many of the buildings like like melted marshmallows. Sure, it looked great at 10.000’, but it was awful low down. - since the MT update, runs better than the others in VR, even more so with dynamic foveated rendering. I’m amazed that there’s not more noise about the big Civ sim for how badly it runs. Quite clearly it needed MT. At least DCS players won’t have to wait until 2024 and then pay again to get it - we know that Vulkan is coming and will hopefully further enhance things - I assume that I’m not alone in loving how much effort it takes to fly an aircraft in DCS. I find it quite confusing to jump into other sims where I can’t touch things in the cockpit In short, I also own most of the other flight sims currently available, and for me, they look worse, run worse and feel a bit pants to be in when compared. Don’t get me wrong, I really want Vulkan and other things (eg AA accuracy to be resolved), but generally, I think that we’re in a great place2 points

@nikoel after some back and forth with @Sile and some experiments, I can now confirm that the crash on removing/putting back the headset looks like an Oculus bug and nothing I can fix. It is exacerbated by the Turbo Mode, but nonetheless an Oculus bug. EDIT: I have one last idea for a disgusting hack to try to fool the Oculus runtime, but after that I have no other avenues.2 points

How exactly do you think sequels are usually made? They do not start from scratch everytime, even if they change engines, because that's a waste of time and money. The only difference between DCS and others is the ''sequels'' are released directly as a patch, allowing all your purchases to carry over. Probably. Probably. That is effectively what is gradually happening. The reason multithreading support took so long is it required a complete rewrite of the executable. The reason Vulcan is taking so long is it's a similar major rewrite of the graphics side. It's like replacing the engine in a car for more power, you can't just drop a V8 into a Volkswagen without also redoing the frame, drivetrain, etc etc. So, these big changes DO involve substantial rewrites. Putting the game in a new box and renaming it won't fundamentally change how it all works. And throwing it in the trash and starting over would simply kill.the company, even if it didn't it would be 5-10 years before you saw anything. I'm a huge critic of the way they do their stuff around here these days. Their issue is one of priorities and almost definitely their corporate culture. It's not the engine or resources, and burning everything down won't solve anything.2 points

For Strike Eagle pilots, I've begun to make a similar mission pack. Here's the first upload: Now, the Viper missions are a passion project, because I fly the jet primarily. The Strike Eagle missions are a side project, so I will not promise the regular updates that we get for the F16. However, I will slowly convert missions over in the coming months, especially as the jet receives more updates. Thank you all again for your passion, support, feedback, and participation.2 points

TUS_Boatsman День 8, вылет 2. I purchased the UFCP recently. I like the overall quality but the software needs an update. Because currently, it is not working properly. The device needs its software to synchronise its display with the corresponding display in the game. This software also dictates all of its button functions. So basically, once the software is activated, you don't need to map your buttons, the device will automatically function as intended when you play JF-17......in theory. The software may have been designed to search the corresponding values in the game, and that is how their buttons work without mapping them. But the issue is that the values for controls have been changed quite a few times. I am sure some of you still remember there were times we had to remap some of our keys and buttons after an update. And that's what's causing the problem. When I first received the UFCP, I didn't know this and had mapped all of its buttons. And that caused conflict between the software and my key mapping. Every time when I press a button, it will get double-tabbed. For example, when I tried to enter the coordinates 44'12"22, I will get 44'44"11 instead. After trying to correct it a few times, the conflict between the software and the key mapping will be so great that it will get what I called a "software crash" and when that happens, some buttons will lose their function. But the issue is, no matter how you restart the game or the computer, those buttons which lose their function will NOT work again. Why? Because the crashed software is still in its crashed state. Please see the picture below. Note the display is still on even after I turned off the computer. Because of this, the software inside the device is still on. So the only thing you can do to reset the software is to completely shut off the power of the computer. Turn off the power source. Only then, the UFCP will not be able to receive any power and be shut down. And after a restart, everything will be reset. Some of you may want to ask, why not just clear all key mapping and just rely on the software? As I mentioned above, the controls of JF-17 have been changed a few times and some of them no longer have their original value therefore, many of the buttons won't work. Secondly, there are some buttons on the UFCP never had any functions in real life and we as players would like to map them for our convenience. For example, the button on the right side of the number "0"; the buttons below function buttons "A/P" and "FPM". I have contacted the company "Wefly" and their representatives promised that they are going to update the software. The new software will only be used to synchronise the display and leave all buttons alone, returning the key mapping decisions to us players. But it may be a while. So currently, I can only play it without the software thus, without a synchronised display.2 points
