Gentlemen, Beauty shots incoming! A build video, the parts list and 3d files will be posted sometime this coming week! Everything works, except for the flaps handle, but that’s being sorted (sorta). All of the switches, potentiometers, buttons and hats all work! This is a 90% solution and your mileage may vary based on your 3d printer. But I hope some of you guys fire up your printers and have as much fun as I have had. Pushing the throttles forward for the first time was more enjoyable than I expected. One can only imagine what this would have been like for a naval aviator. I hope everyone is doing well!8 points

Dear all, We often have users who mistakenly purchase modules on server accounts, so we have added a new feature on your account page that will allow you to restrict purchases if it is a server account. By enabling the option you will not be able to purchase modules on that account. The option can be found here https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/personal/profile/7 points

Operations Snowfox/Clear Field/Scarlet Dawn/Sea Slug have been updated to provide (hopefully) support for the latest open beta patch, which caused some scripting issues due to a fix that was rolled out to the API. I anticipate this will be the last time theses missions get updated in their current form, but of course you never know. Please let me know if any issues come up. I was aiming to replace Operation Jupiter with what would been the first mission in a series for it, but it isn't quite ready yet and unfortunately will also be awaiting a fix for the new Biggin Hill airfield.4 points

You should go look up the principles behind TDOA, TDOA is Time difference of Arrival, not angular measurements. Each station is receiving and synchronizing the time of arrival of a particular signal and using that time sync to generate a location. With 1 station all you get is a range, thus a circle around your aircraft. 2 stations would give you a pair of potential locations, and 3 stations gives you a very accurate location. This does not work the same way as angle based triangulation systems. Each intersection of a circle is the potential location of the target, only where all three intersect is the true location.4 points

I am now on mission 6 a till now the mission design will fit more for Ka-50 or AH-64 as for MI-24P Hind. Maybe some mission specific for Hind come later. Like cargo transport, troops transport and so on. The main reason why i start this topic is i want report there is wrong payload in mission 6 - escort. I get 2x grenade pods, 8x ATGM “Ataka” what does not work together. The ATGM on middle pilon don't work with any GUV-8700 pod. Not big deal to change it in editor , but anyway. /edit I think this mission need revisit completely. The game crashed for me twice in this mission. Then in some other attempt AI friendly planes don't destroy SAMs before i reached the location, so the SAMs shot me down. 4 other attempts a was not able survive the ambush, because those hidden M4 guys are so OP. Until a am able to find them and kill them all one my engine is dead. When i finally survive the ambush there come Shilka a several other vehicles from nowhere and shot me down. After 6 hours or so i was able survive everything , the convoy come to the hill, there stop and nothing happened next. I did not have any more ammo anyway so i RTB quit the mission and get result draw 50%. So i give up this mission.3 points

The answer to this is the same as the last hundred times it's been asked... Yes, there will be a preorder on Steam. No, it is not ready yet because Steam will not approve without at least a guess on a release date which Heatblur is obviously unwilling to give them since the product page still says "Coming Soon"3 points

How the Template looks in the Mission Editor - tacked on to the side of an in game parking area. How that looks in the game - still using the Template for comparisons. Some of the possible option in the Liveries - I have not shown the original LHD - LHA Livery but it is in there beside the others, so nothing is lost. If Massun are happy for me to release this as a small change to their Mod I will do it. There are 18 different Livery options to play with.3 points

I would just like to share not my perspective but the general vibe that I have seen from the multiplayer side. While there is only a dozen or so pages on this thread, there are thousands of interactions per day on discord which is not really captured here. In general, the feedback, from what I have seen, on the spotting changes has been overwhelmingly positive. The few people who seem to be opposed to the new spotting are people using a nascent technology (VR). As this is the first version of this and the few negative response seem to be centered with some VR people, it looks like we are moving in the right direction. Once this is solved for VR, then it should be in a good spot for everyone, including the few players on VR. What we had previous was simply unacceptable for spotting for a sim in 2023. What we had before was the worst spotting system out of any sim on the market. This is a step in the right direction and it's the first step to fix it.3 points

Update November 18, 2023 - 1: TTI SP v2.4.9a Ensure compatibility with DCS Open Beta DCS 2.9.1.48111 or later: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/openbeta/2.9.1.48111/ Fixed many script errors relating to CTLD, CSAR, Tanker Spawns and other core scripts relating to DCS Engine Update. Please ensure that you do not use any DCS Open Beta version earlier than DCS Open Beta DCS 2.9.1.48111 which was released on November 11, 2023. Fixed an issue where some MISSION ERAs and WW2 Asset Pack were not working, causing script errors on some maps. Skynet IADs now has a proper Red EW to ensure working Skynet IAD SAMs. Added an option to load/read mission settings from local files on your PC, that do not require re-saving or re-loading scripts into the mission via the editor. This is not the default behavior, you must change this in the DEFINE MISSION LOAD SETTINGS in the MISSION EDITOR first. See documentation and included text file for details. Any and all new features above have been updated in detail in the TTI SP Tutorials and Guides Documentation: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/177ydPq1tJsOli7tKKKAuPxybfOw2yAo53 points

Dear community, as a naval aviation geek who likes correct squadrons on the flight deck, I was really looking forward to the new S-3 model that was introduced with DCS version 2.9 . However, there was only one stock skin without any squadron markings available - and so I created two skin packs for the Viking. One contains several High Visibility liveries, mostly from the 1980s, the other one more modern tactical low visiblity paint schemes. While the skins all represent real life paint jobs, they are not 100 percent perfect - some small logos might be missing, the airplanes serial number is untouched and they mostly carry the same modex no. The reason for that is that I wanted to create a handful of skins, representing a handful (or more ) squadrons matching our carriers (including the existing repaints for Forrestal and Supercarrier) and aircraft liveries. Since there is no official template and the new S-3 model sadly cannot be opened with the model viewer, those repaints were a lot of work and required a lot of trial-and-error-stuff, and constant checking and reloading missions in DCS itself. It would be great for the skinning community if ED could make the models accessible to the model viewer in order to create liveries and to hopefully improve the experience for y'all. @scorch71 was kind enough to let me use his despriction.lua and High Vis Painting as a base for my own work. Here's the low visibility liveries, including 10 skins for VS-21, VS-22, VS-24, VS-28, VS-30, VS-31, VS-32, VS-33 and VS-38: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3334240/ ...and the more colourful Vikings, 9 skins from VS-21, VS-24, VS-28, VS-29, VS-31, VS-32, VS-33, VS-37 and VS-38: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3334355/ To install the liveries, copy the folders to [DCS MAIN DIRECTORY]/Bazar/Liveries/s-3b and also to [DCS MAIN DIRECTORY]/Bazar/Liveries/s-3b tanker. The corresponding "liveries" folder in saved games works too, of course. If you want to use the special bottom texture for the tanker, open up the LUA file inside the tanker livery. Simply change the second column to {"low_S3B_Fus_Back", 0 ,"low_S3BViking_Fus_Back_Tanker_Diffuse",false}; and off you go (that means, you just have to add the apart "_Tanker" to that line ). The skins work for the S-3 Tanker without changing this, I think only the sonar buoy hatches will look like the normal S-3 then. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my skin packs - and if you do: I'd be happy to see some screenshots or videos of the different "War Hoovers" in action / on flightdecks / giving precious fuel.2 points

notselecting9thjdam.trk Track included. Basically if I have 9 gbu-38s loaded and add them all to prog 1 in PACS. When I cycle them in the Smart weapons page one is skipped. After I've dropped some, haven't been able to pinpoint the logic there, it does become available. So in the end i can drop them all but it seems like a bug. Also with unlimited weapons it doesn't seem possible to drop the reloaded ones since they don't show up in the smart weapons menu.2 points

I agree! No one is sitting on the fence debating whether they're gonna get this one or the F-4. That makes no sense at all. The pre-sales of the F-4 has probably dwarfed it already. Not sure how the WWII sales compares to jets in any case. Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk2 points

I can confirm after some testing that I am seeing the same issue with JDAMs loaded on L1 and R1. They always behave very oddly, losing a lot of energy and falling short of target or exhibiting strange behaviours. Every other station works just fine.2 points

Hi all, We have no evidence that there should be any damage to the actual landing gear based on air speed. It is possible however to damage the gear doors and we have reported this to the team. A reminder, we can not use other simulators as evidence, if you do have real world unclassified evidence please PM me. thanks2 points
-
Having stated that some damage is modeled I decided to test it... I took off and left the gear extended until I reached 630 kts and the retracted it. The nose wheel retracted but main wheels did not. I then decelerated, as I slowed to a more normal approach speed the main gear retracted. I then extended the gear and it extended normally and I landed with no problem. I took off again, retracted the gear immediately, again no problem, all 3 wheels retracted. I gained altitude, extended the gear in an acute angle descent at 740 kts, the gear extended normally and I landed without incident. It would seem that overspeeding the landing gear is NOT really modeled and of course it should be.2 points

As a 4k user and new to DCS 8 mths ago. I did simply walk away from DCS after about 3 maybe 4 months , one of the reasons was dot spotting. Couldn't spot a thing, single player mode or multiplayer. I was so disappointed. Then 2.9 dropped and along with other issues that I had with DCS, which all seem to have been addressed. What an update! Only had one or 2 sessions this weekend but I'm ready for more!2 points

Observation: It's measurable in-game that no matter the controller, OS or hardware configuration, there's a ~60ms delay between an input on the F-16 and the FLCS response. You can see this across a slew of different controls types, but it's especially demonstrable with very twitchy joysticks or good low-latency keyboards. This same latency can not be reproduced on any other airplane Question, without judgement: Is this intentional behaviour for this jet, and can you shed light on what causes it? (i.e. Why is this a feature unique to the F-16)2 points

I've got Russian/Soviet air forces/air defence forces done, I'm probably 99.99% finished with Soviet/Russian naval facilities, including what units were where and when (see this for an example). I've also started on the electrical grid (or at least major parts of it, such as power plants and distribution facilities) as well as some civilian points of interest (such as the facilities of Andøya space), though that's still quite incomplete. I think I've got Norway's air defence sites (both current and historical) done (including EWR, CRC and CAOC facilities), though aerdromes still need fleshing out with what units were present and when, same for Finland and Sweden (though in all cases I've got most-to-all of them marked, including highway strips. I am sure however, that there are probably still some minor aerdromes that that I've missed). I've done a couple of Finnish EWR sites that I was lucky enough to spot and make out what radars were/likely are present but Sweden's network is fairly elusive (I have got a single document showing very rough locations of at least 1 radar type, but it doesn't help that many of their radars at least appear to have submersible versions that can retract into hardened silos when needed, much like the Norwegian SINDRE I/II radars) - there's next to nothing about them online. I'm also going to include NAVAIDs where possible and airspace (at least North European Aerospace Test range (comprising of the Vidsel and Esrange ranges), this is still quite incomplete, but this at least should be fairly easy. I've also heavily used ww2.dk in doing the Soviet/Russian side of things, but there are cases where I've had to fill in its blanks (namely the 161st submarine brigade), using other sources and satellite imagery.2 points

Hello! I think that there should be some sort of priority to a module that have been in early access since 2017. I do understand that F-14, for example, is a more popular aircraft among many in the DCS community and that there is a great anticipation for the F-4 as well. But as a customer I really think that bug fixes for the Viggen module should be a bit more of a priority. It feels like the Viggen module hav been put to a lower priority for some time concerning bug fixes. ( I do of course understand that bux fixes do not generate income/revenue like a new release of a module). I am REALLY looking forward to the December patch and HOPE that at least this bug, with "submerged" wheels, will be fixed! For me the Viggen module is my absolute favorite module! I have not used the Viggen module since the bug with "submerged wheels" started. It is most annoying! Best regards: Otulf2 points

The campaign has been designed with this in mind. 4 years ago, It's just harder and harder to keep up with all the AI changes and constraints, that's why I will do a total overhaul, the work has already started on it, but it's pretty much going to be a new campaign, with all the triggers redone and voices and so on. It will take me a few months to have it ready, and i will want to launch it fully not just to trickle a mission or two every update.2 points

Without dots, it goes both ways. One the one hand, you are able to see airplanes at unreasonable distances because of how naive the distance rendering is. Even if you zoom out, the renderer seems to really dislike not showing things that are smaller than a pixel so if you're good at pixel peeping, they show up anyway. And when zoomed in, it just goes by pure trigonometry to decide that something should appear too big at distances where the planes should just not show up at all. There is no (sensible) upper limit to how far out the models are drawn. On the other hand, you are able to lose planes at distances where you should reasonably see them, or where they show up clearly at lower resolutions. It's that awkward cross-over distance where they are no longer just tiny dots on the screen, but are now fully rendered aircraft with (single-digit-pixel) details, which means that colouring starts to matter, and they get lost in the general noise of the background. FoV obviously matters here, but almost the opposite way: if you compress the contact into a smaller cluster of pixels, it often comes out more sharply than if you zoom in… or at least if you only zoom in half-way (ie you maintain a 1:1 scale). Fully zoomed, they obviously show up more clearly again, but are harder to track because of the inherent jitteriness of those higher zoom levels. It is consistently inconsistent and nonsensically counter-intuitive. The biggest promise of all of the spotting dots is that they make it possible that all of that goes away.2 points

Version 1.3.3 is released. v1.3.3 Feature Changes: F-15E: Added Smart Weapon mission coordinate entry. DCS-BIOS version update to v0.7.49. Added the ability to install DCS-BIOS daily Beta builds. The Beta builds may not be fully compatible, for example the definition of F-15E UFC keys 0 and 7 is changed in the Beta version and will not function. Bug Fixes: F/A-18C: PP mission displayed with an X when the elevation is set to zero.2 points

“Positive” meaning people would rather have easy than realistic. What’s popular isn’t always the right answer. The new system is literally just the dot labels forced on. Those same players probably think dot labels aren’t realistic and are thus playing without them. Yet somehow think the same effect with a different name is2 points

Sorry, but WHY are you assuming they DIDN'T make this a priority to fix? They aren't going to just turn everything back, so they need figure out why it's doing that (and I'll note, only for some people, not everyone) AND figure out how to fix it. That's probably not something that happens in a couple of hours unless they were crazy luck. Much more likely to be weeks/months to figure out. And it's likely only a small part of team that are able to and are working on parts of the code that is causing this. Do you want the rest of the team to just stop work and stay home, or should they carry on in parallel while the stuttering is worked on (hence another patch without a fix for you)? It sucks that's it's not flyable for you, but to assume they are ignoring the issue is insulting.2 points

Honesty is the best policy when dealing with punters, locking threads and calling the issue resolved without any meaningful engagment just stinks the place up - I can only imagine how this made the people out there who were genuinely trying to help out with what they thought was a LOD issue / bug feel. Without putting too fine a point on it this whole thing runs a close 2nd to the Hawk debacle which still saddens me to this day - I adore what ED and DCS have done for the combat sim world but treating the community this way simply doesn't fly.2 points
