  1. In the north, pines, spruces and other coniferous trees vastly outnumber deciduous trees. Consider for example the forests around Murmansk or Luleå airport If we look at the screenshots shared, it's a very different picture. I think Orbx should address this quite apparent discrepancy.

  5. Some of new shots from DCS Kola Peninsula map. DCS: Kola map will soon be available for early access. The early access DCS: Kola map covers northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Russian Murmansk Oblast, and parts of the Karelia region. It also includes large areas of the Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea to the north and west, ideal for aircraft carrier operations. This area contains several high-detail locations, centered on airports in Finland (EFRO, EFKE, plus two road airbases), and Russia (XLMV, ULAK, RU-1110, RU-4464, ULMM), along with their urban and rural surroundings and infrastructure. Outside this focus area, two airports in Norway (ENBO, ENNA) and three in Sweden (ESNQ, ESNJ, ESUK) are functional but not fully detailed yet. The Orbx team has made every effort to craft a map that can be enjoyed by all types of users and will continue to update the map with additional content including airports, military installations, natural features, and lots more POIs over the following months. The team will also work on enhancing ground textures to reach a “real-life” level of detail as much as possible. The early access release comes with a special 20% discount, priced at (USD 55.99), but only for a limited time. As the map evolves with further content the purchase price may also increase. Here are the key features you can expect from the Early Access release: Complete base terrain for the entire map area, with highly detailed topography, summer ground textures summer, shorelines, and lakes and rivers. An initial focus area spans the Finland/Russia border and encompasses central Finland and the western parts of the Murmansk and Karelia regions of Russia (see map). Four high-detail areas, focusing on two airports in Finland (EFRO, EFKE) and five in Russia (XLMV, ULAK, RU-1110, RU-4464, ULMM), and their urban and rural surroundings and infrastructure. Two road runways in Finland, near Rovaniemi and Sodankylä, respectively. Two additional airports in Norway (ENBO, ENNA) and three in Sweden (ESNQ, ESNJ, ESUK) are functional but not fully detailed at early-access release. Significant civilian POIs include bridges, vertical obstructions, monuments, hydro dams, power stations, port facilities, landmark buildings, open-pit mines, towns and small villages, and industrial sites. Improved night lighting for cities and towns. Main road and railroad network, with bridges and tunnels, which are connected across the map and allow long-distance AI routing. Natural landmarks and geographic features, like Norwegian fjords, detailed coastlines, snowfields, forests and wetlands, tens of thousands of lakes, and large river systems. Map features represent the current era but include allowances for the late-Cold War era – e.g., operational road runways and fully functioning Russian air bases – to enhance mission options. The Orbx team is collaborating with experienced DCS campaign creators Baltic Dragon and Reflected Simulations to create engaging campaigns. Additional features already planned: Complete set of winter textures that load dynamically based on mission date, to accurately represent the cold and harsh climate of the Kola area. Additional detailed military airfields, including Andøya, Bardufoss, Kirkenes, Evenes, Vidsel, Kilpyavr, Alakkurti, and others. Additional military installations like naval and army bases, barracks, ports, storage areas, training areas/ranges, radar and communication sites, and air defense sites. Additional Cold War era Swedish and Finnish road runways. Additional civilian airports, including Tromsø, Hammerfest, Ivalo, Luleå, and others. Additional detailed cities and towns, POIs, and industrial sites. Improvements to landscape features and detail, as well as additional areas with high-resolution aerial ortho imagery.

  7. Just letting everyone know, I have not forgotten about ya'll. the app is in daily development on my end, most of the issues with the last public build have been fixed, and other things completely re-vamped. The next public release isnt scheduled until June likely, As the app is also developed and maintained to aid testers, there are some functions that are integrated into the app that are not in the release version of DCS. The change log is extensive between the October build and now. On top of finding a suitable host so I can re-enable the auto update function, I am also looking into 2 separate deployment paths, one for testers and one for the public that way there wont be such a long wait.

  8. I'm working to add more liveries for ERJ-145 and ERJ-135BJ. ERJ-145's European airlines addition --- ERJ-135's liveries as private / charter or company owned. ERJ-145s will be published after 2 or 3 more airlines will be drawn. ERJ-135BJ needs longer time with 6 or 10 more skins I want to try.

  10. I get all of my DCS fun the same way, but it's not really realistic to expect that every player has the time, energy, creativity, skills, or even the interest to make their own missions. Also, the mission editor is adequate at best. It lacks some very basic UI functionality (e.g. undo, redo, drag select, etc.) and a ton of gameplay functionality, hence the fact that a large part of the mission-making community has to learn Lua to create the experiences they want to play. All of that being the case, I think it's pretty reasonable that some/many people want and expect mission content that they don't have to make themselves.

  13. Some of us here have been around a long time and know how all of this works. We have gone through broken promises, broken AC, products that never got finished, and of course there was the Hawk debacle. Remember the Hawk and that big mess guys? After all of these incidents, I never speculate, nor bother whining about any of this nonsense because you may as well shoot a dead horse who lost his hearing aides. They got your $$$, you agreed to the terms, now live with it. Go play with all of the other toys in your box because crying over this one will get you a whole lot of nothing.

  14. Testing and perfecting the directors is ongoing, it is no easy task. Most of these, if not all of these functions are new and beyond what most anyone has ever done with a carrier, as such it takes lots of time and testing. The chaos of a flight deck in MP has many great challenges for AI directors. Thanks.

  17. Status update There's a radar issue with a lot of the ships (in the packs that hasn't recently been updated) that affects the launching of antiship missiles. So I will be releasing fixpack updates (the small incremental ones) for them shortly, so that all ships and their weapons shall work as intended.

  21. With the Kola map around the corner I got to thinking about this old mod. I looked and most of the zip file names have been changed So, Throwing caution to the wind, I made a few guesses , Re named a couple zips in the mod, Got my winter jacket on And went for a walk in Autumn It did not work 100% However, much of the ground was white! I bet with a bit more work, and a examination of the zip contents in both locations, would yield a better result.

  22. I suspect that many (if not most users of DCS) are like me in that they do not try to master everything. They focus on one thing until they are good at it. For me that thing has never yet been the mission editor. The missions I've created suck compared to the ones I've played that were designed by Sorelo or Reflected, for example, as part of their campaigns. I'd much rather fly missions created by these masters of the craft than the boring ones I created myself. Maybe someday that will change, but for now, for me, the value of a map has a lot to do with the content that others have created for it, and not on what I can create myself. I'm sure I would find a lot of satisfaction in creating really good missions myself. But as of now, I don't have the time or skills for that, and I suspect I'm not alone. BTW, you misquoted me. I said " I'm hopeful that Kola will be better due to the likelihood that we get two DLC campaigns from good campaign developers." You left off the "I'm hopeful that" part of my post, and that changed the meaning considerably.

  24. I recently built a multiplayer (3x3) Huey rugby mission. The objective is to pick up the "ball" and take it to your opponent's end zone. The ball is represented by an invincible paratrooper soldier model The mission keeps score automatically On-screen messages report score, fumbles, and possession changes Pick up the ball by flying within ~30', no need to land or stop but you need to slow down a little If you take the ball out of bounds or score, it respawns in the middle of the field If you crash with the ball, it respawns near the crash No mods or special assets are required; uses Caucuses map and stock Huey liveries Flares are implemented to help you find the ball. When loose, the ball shoots white flares; when Red has possession, the ball carrier shoots red flares; Blue shoots green flares (no blue flares in DCS) Each Huey is armed with guns only and unlimited fuel/ammo Uses the amazing DML Mission Creation Toolbox (fully integrated to the MIZ file, no downloads or setup required for players) Download here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3336891/ Feel free to modify as you like! Grab some friends, check it out, and give me feedback!

  26. What the heck are you prattling on about? Nothing has changed at all. The CH-47 is being released into EA exactly the same way as every other module preceding it; the “dumbed down” F-5, F-86 and MiG-15 just add scope for the entry level DCS participants and take nothing from the owners of their FF equivalents. You’re finding phantom and spooks where there aren’t even shadows. Go take some Ritalin.

  30. Hi, our SMEs have responded. Apparently there is a little mistake in our implementation, as the wingtip missile jettison was not protected by a weight on wheels switch (we will correct this). This means that, IRL, this button was extremely dangerous, as the jettison could be activated on the ground. As a consequence, at least in the SpAF, the button was deactivated very early on and then removed in subsequent versions of the aircraft (EE and M).

  34. Hello, I assume that what is shown in Chuck's guide is what we can currently expect in DCS for the F16 (possibly even a little more). The FCR section shows the symbology for the different states of an object detected by our own or another RADAR in our data link group. I am not able to turn the symbolic of a tracked target into the symbolic of a system target in such a case (shared Data (yellow squares)), at least I have never seen a yellow hollowed-out square for months (could be years ;)). Even if I bug a target (a circle around the target) the yellow square will stay fulfilled. I only see the symbol of a system target if I am not receiving data from other group members/AWACS (Datalink is disabled). It seems to be important that the pilot knows which targets are system targets, otherwise the symbol would not be there even in the mode without data link (only white squares). I therefore strongly assume that recognizing which targets are system targets will also be possible with active data exchange with other members. In the track-file you can see there is a big difference in symbolic and how good you can track the selected targets. Without the Datalink, I can easily see the differences in the symbolic (search -> track -> system -> bugged). With the Datalink enabled I am unable to see which target is in what current state. I am unable to see if the yellow symbol is a search, a track or a system target. Impossible to see that. A lot better and more pleasurable situation occurs as soon I am switching the data transfer to off. Now I am able to see in what state one of each target is. The symbolic (white) works like in Chucks guide. The questions that now arise me are as follows: 1. is Chuck's guide wrong? If so, is there an explanation as to why the symbology and the way I can lock targets is completely different with and without a datalink connection and why it is much more difficult to lock targets with a datalink connection than without an active datalink connection? 2. if Chuck's Guide is correct, when will the error in the symbolic display be corrected and the problem with the more difficult target locking in the datalink mode be resolved? No Mods enabled, all Data cleared, slow repair was done. Edit: To mention a few more details. In active datalink mode, it is often not possible to turn all targets that are in FCR (in TWS mode) into system targets with a short TMS right. Typically, only the first detected target is immediately made into a bugged target (the part making a system target will be cut out, because there is no symbology for system targets anymore if you are in the Datalink mode). A new TMS to the right regularly has no effect. It will not switch through all system targets (because in the Datalink mode the FCR is mostly unable to make system targets?). TMS down only changes the symbolism once, and only if a target was previously bugged. Since you cannot see from the symbols what status the targets are currently in, you often TMS down until you leave the TWS mode. Two completely different symbolics for the same subject, and only because you get more/better data. But exactly when you get more and "better" data, you have a harder time selecting targets because the symbology is severely limited. And the target acquisition is significantly more difficult/restricted. I can't imagine with the best will in the world that this is what the designer intended. track_f16.trk

  37. Outstanding job gents on the OH-6. She is a handful to get use to on takeoff. I must admit, the video below was my first flight with her as well as the first time I have used a collective in DCS. I just got the Virpil AH-64 hooked up and my mind is having time transitioning from forward on the throttle is increase altitude to down on the collective is decrease and up is increase. Hopefully after a few more flights things will start to look a little cleaner.

  41. Somehow it gives me the feel that it will be the new Caucasus kind of map. Russia/Georgia vs Russia/Scandinavia. Naval operations, lots more lakes, rivers, POIs, better details on terrain and cities. Better looking geografical features, but similar theatre to Caucasus. It's like you get the same features, possibilities but way better looking. exciting! Hopefully it will become very popular for content making and MP.

  42. For god sake!!! Are you serious? First rush and premature announcement of the Ch-47F without feature list. Than "strip down" (to put it mildly) of existing "full fidelity" modules as Flaming Cliffs 2024. What next? Stickers and loot boxes? Paid plane skins? If this is the "new system" than I'm out. Sorry ... this is clear sign something is really, really wrong. The point is some of us spend a lot (and I mean rally a lot) of $ for this game. Even more for gear which works only with this game. We supported ED like no other community buying almost every DLC, signing up for pre-orders and spending endless hours in DCS over years! We design missions, write mods and spend endless hours together in virtual sky's. We all accept some level of business oddness (priority on paid modules not engine, terrain, ground units and stability) as we all know the reality and exactly how this business works and how it is kept afloat. If you do not feel difference between early access, pre orders and current situation, than sorry. There is something wrong with your perspective, not those who asking questions. PS: "We must learn a new system..." ... Gosh...

  43. I also get very inconsistent, chaotic roll behaviour. Moreover, is there ground effect implemented in the flight model? Seems like I can have a very low descend speed, 100-50fpm, and it just hits the ground. I would think at that speed out of ground effect it would gently settle into hover when in ground effect. And yes, the throttle axis binding doesn't seem to work. Buttons work, though.
    2 points
  44. AFAIK the OH-6 doesn't have a Force Trim, you trim it like you would a plane using the provided bindings and that's it. Also no pedal trim whatsoever, but that's not really that big of a deal once you get up to speed...

  45. I agree, if we we're to be getting the extra functions tomorrow, I would have expected at least one youtube video from Wags showing us how to use the new features. The lack of video tells me we won't be getting them this patch.

  46. They have given updates but all I can determine from that is sometime in the future (month, years?) we will get a ready room, airboss station, and flight directors. Could care less about the first two but flight directors would be nice and functioning comms with radio changes would be nice. Including hearing AI make radio calls.

    2 points
  49. It doesn't matter where ED puts the price sticker. It all goes into their pocket. Charging for the core won't change anything. The modules they sell right now depend on and fund the core already, there is nothing that forces modules sales to only go to supporting module development. On the topic of subscriptions, I remain against because of increased user cost for no benefit.
