  1. The server will be back online on Friday, 07.06.2024, around 18:00 zulu. Old vs New Features: Limiting the number of available aircraft and weapons per side was one major feature of this server, and frankly made it what it was known for. However, and as many of you will still remember this didn't come at a low cost. I had to reedit the warehouses of all bases in all missions after almost every single DCS update. And that was no fun at all! just typing that had me sighing... Limiting weapons will unfortunately no longer be an option. Limiting lives for each player on the other hand is the new feature to kind of replace the limiting of aircraft: Each player starts with 50 lives that are restored every 5 hours (the numbers might change in the future if necessary). If all lives are lost before 5 hours have elapsed the player wont be able to fly until his lives are restored. However, that player will still have access to the Combined Arms module through the cmdr and JTAC slots. Note that the Combined Arms module has always been very vital in all missions! Each team can and should have a GCI operator (obviously, not easy to get) and/or a ground forces' commander. After all, most ground units can be controlled by players and many objectives are completed with the help of ground forces. As mentioned above, each player starts with 50 lives. Different types of aircraft come with different costs. The following list shows how many lives the loss of an aircraft costs: 15 lives - F-14 12 lives - MiG-29 9 lives - F-4 7 lives - MiG-21 / F-5 / F1 / AJS37 / A-4 6 lives - MiG-19 5 lives - MiG-15 / F-86 / Su-25 / A-10 / AH-64 4 lives - Ka-50 3 lives - L-39 / C-101 / Mi-24 / SA342 2 lives - Mi-8 / UH-1 0 lives - Combined Arms If you're wondering why modern helicopters are featured on a Cold War server check out FAQ-6 on the main page here. Saving Mission's Progress: We used to run a mission for an x amount of hours before the server rotated to a new one, regardless of whether the objectives were completed by either side or not. If the objectives weren't completed that was considered a draw, and we had loads of that. Also, that didn't give players who joined the server shortly before it was about to rotate to a new mission the incentive to contribute to the team, knowing it wasn't really going to matter much. Therefore, mission's progress will from now on be saved. Every 8 hours the server restarts to save progress before the current mission is resumed. However, if one side completes all objectives in less than 8 hours the server loads a new mission. If not, it will remain online (restarting every 8 hours to save progress) for as long as it takes for one side to eventually get the job done. There are dozens of missions featuring different maps with different scenarios with a variety of objectives. Note that in some missions each side can even have different objectives (check here). Choosing a Side: Unlike before players are now asked to pick a side upon joining the server. Type -red or -blue to do so. This should prevent players from switching back and forth to spy on the other side and see where their ground units are or what objectives remain to be completed. Every 24 hours each player is again asked to retype -red or -blue. This is in order to give players the chance to change sides in case they want to fly something else, balance the teams or for whatever reasons. Weapons' Restrictions: Basically, just like it used to be; Rear-aspect missiles for the most part... Most of the air-to-ground weaponry is available. The nuke bombs are as of now available in one mission only. Check here. Many air-to-air missiles are NOT available. IR missiles are restricted to rear-aspect ONLY! The only exception is the F-14. The F-14 doesn't carry any rear-aspect IR missiles, therefore, it has access to AIM-9L's, but only on the two outer pylons. That means it can carry up to 2 x AIM-9L's. List of the available air-to-air missiles: R-27R, R-3R, RS2US, R-60, R-13M1, R-13M, R-3S and R-55 AIM-7F, AIM-7E-2, AIM-9L, AIM-9P, AIM-9J, AIM-9B, R530F EM, R530F IR, R550 Magic 1, RB-24J, RB-24 and Mistral F10 Map Restrictions: Nothing has changed here. Players can't see their aircraft or any other friendly units on the F10 map. Use whatever navigation systems available onboard and contact your GCI operator if available. GCI and Combined Arms players have always been the backbone of the server and made it stand out and known for it. Get on comms! No more excuses for not using SRS! I've always relied on these things since day one (even when Combined Arms wasn't a thing back then) rather than some scripted AI GCI or the like to hopefully get the most out of DCS. In other words, it's up to us players. We could either fly solo, not be on comms and just go pew pew pew or play in teams. Admittedly, we're not going to always have a GCI operator and there will always be players flying solo making it rather boring. But there will also be some sessions with the exact opposite of that and those are the FUN TIMES! Up... To... The... Players! Special thanks to Yink for offering his help in translating my ideas into lua scripts. And special thanks to good old Apok for the various scripts he's been helping me with for quite a while. Two veterans of the game who have been around for as long as I can remember. Bless you both!

  4. I would like to suggest the Antonov An-12 to be added as an AI unit at some point before 2040. It is a turboprop cargo plane that has been around since the late 50s and continues to be in active military service today, as well as with a number of civilian operators. It used to be one of the mainstays of the Soviet air forces and thus would be useful in a lot of Cold War scenarios as well as a bit of flavour for those beyond.

  5. Status update Weapon issues with DCS 2.9.5.55300 As you remember, there are currently two issues at hand. Issue #1 - Affecting all SAMs using TVC - making them go haywire and flying everywhere All affected missiles in all the affected country packs have been fixed. Tests are finished and everything seem to work as intended. Issue #2 - Affecting all missiles using the old DCS missile parameter set - making them fall short of the intended target As I mentioned before, this issue is a bit more tricky as it can't be reproduced with DCS core units (as ED has migrated all their weapons to newer parameter sets), and therefore we can't submit a proper error report to ED. I'm working weapon for weapon to see what I can come up with. I've been working on a solution for the guided artillery shells which seem to work, we're about to start testing. No solutions for the other assets yet. Here's the preliminary list of assets affected by issue #2: HIMARS ATACMS HIMARS PrSM HIMARS PrSM antiship HIMARS GLSDB HIMARS GMLRS M270 GLSDB M270 GMLRS M270 ATACMS M777 Excalibur B-21 AGM-88G DF-21D PCL-181 GP155 Type 055 YJ-21 Iskander 9M723 Grigorovich Frigate RBU-6000 Artillerisystem 08 Excalibur PzH 2000 Excalibur Issue #3 - Affecting ATGMs Work has begun to find solutions for these, I've tested a lot of different solutions, but DCS doesn't seem to work as before and everything I try is inconsistent. For example, I can get a missile to guide perfectly to a target two times in a row, but the next missile just go haywire and doesn't track at all. These kind of issues are very hard to pinpoint. Here's the preliminary list of assets affected by issue #3: AFT-10 HJ-10 CV9050 Spike LR2 RBS 58 FGM-148 On top of that, I've been out of action for a couple days, caught some bug. But I intend to return to troubleshooting by tomorrow.

  6. It is correct behavior and highly dependent on which system specifically you are running against. The RWR has no magic way of knowing a missile launch or being able to detect a certain aircraft type, it cant cheat. It measures frequencies of the various emitters and classifies then based on their properties. Systems are usually working quite differently. Some do not change when they are tracking, some do. Its quite complex. You can find more details and explanations in the other threads about the RWR. We are planning to expand our manual on it.

  8. You were referring to "the IT market", not DCS or even Flight Simulations. The Information Technology market for software is dominated by SaaS and long term Enterprise Agreements. What you now talk about is the "Computer gaming market", specifically. ...and then there is a small subset of Flight Simulation games, further divided in civilian and combat/military flight simulation. Then there are a handful of products, of which round about one(!) does all era including modern and WWII combat aircraft. THAT is the "IT market" you meant. I agree, everyone should be old enough to make his own decisions. I am sure it will.

  12. Combined Arms There are two types of Combined Arms slots available on the server: Tactical cmdr and JTAC. The JTAC slots are accessible for every player who owns the Combined Arms module. The tactical cmdr slots however, are locked with a password for server veterans only. Server veterans are kindly asked to contact me via pm (whether here or on Discord) to receive the password. Also, server veterans are kindly asked to share the password with one another and be the judge on whether other players can have access to the tactical cmdr slots or not. This is merely an attempt to avoid having any solo or trolling players messing up the work for tactical cmdr players. If you know someone or have played with someone whom you can entrust the password with, please, share it with them. Thanks!

  14. Listen guys hears the rub, the BFM performance difference between The F-4 and the other cold war jets is pretty marginal. To the extent that if you get caught out with more fuel the other jets are likely going to have a small advantage. Stop thinking that there is a silver bullet for winning in the F-4, there isn't. You set up engagements in your favor or you disengage. You manage your energy and you capitalize on opportunities and avoid making mistakes, and you practice, and you practice. I've flown pretty much all the cold war jets in game including the F-4 and played them in PVP and I normally win my engagement regardless of which airframe i'm in and regardless of which other cold war jet i'm fighting, i've out rated every cold war jet playing as every other cold war jet, because the simple matter is keeping consistant rate while maintaining eyes on an enemy is hard, and even if you have a marginal advantage in turn rate the most likely scenario is someone runs out of gas first

  16. Rubbish. I'm very disappointed that there have been no updates in 10 months. This needs to be discussed as I would definitely like to see their methodology change. There are legitimate concerns that need to be addressed and considered in the future. But slandering them by calling it abandonware when the dev's are still here and posting in this thread only 12 posts above showing progress is misleading at best and doesn't help anyone. Unless of course, you have some information that shows that the company has truly abandoned their product, and that the posts above by their dev's are fraudulent in nature, that you would like to share besides updates taking longer than you or I would like?

  17. The bind is missing until the system can be implemented. It redirects hot engine bleed air across the canopy, heating up the canopy and blowing away rain. It must not be used on ground to prevent overheating and melting the canopy, there is even a warning lamp for it :D Currently, the Phantom dkesnt yet support EDs rain system due to some technical difficulties that will hopefully be resolved soon. Unfortunately the system doesn't offer us to interact with it in a way to implement "rain removal" yet.

  18. The official announcement of the the Falklands '14 campaign for DCS World, in development now for the AV-8B Night Attack and South Atlantic map. In 2014, a rejuvenated Argentine military launches a surprise attack on the Falklands, swiftly capturing the islands and avenging their defeat in the 1982 Falklands War. Emboldened by significant Chinese support, Argentina digs in and prepares to defend against the inevitable British attempt to re-take the islands. Outnumbered, outgunned and over 8,000 miles from home, the British task force and it's handful of Harrier pilots faces a seemingly insurmountable challenge to take the Falklands back. Falklands '14 will offer the definitive DCS: AV-8B experience. The campaign will feature detailed naval operations from HMS Invincible; including an interactive crew chief, fleet air traffic control, and departure and arrival procedures. Inspired by events of the 1982 Falklands conflict, the Falklands '14 campaign will push virtual Harrier pilots to the limits through a thrilling and intense set of missions. Falklands '14 is in active development now and is due for completion in the first half of 2025.

  20. Is the gun selected as the current weapon while you are in the FCR? With gun selected, it will stay in AGR and not give you a picture, as the radar is busy calculating the range for your gun. So try to deselect the gun, or perhaps load some weapons so that gun is deselected by default. Perhaps you can also force GM/GMT while you are in NAV mastermode, but I'm not sure anymore.

I agree, the generational backlog is a dead end Since getting an intel 12th gen requires a new MB anyway, my tip to @sirrah is to start saving up Because by the time you have money for the current End-of-life 14600k, z790, and 4060, with their follow ups on the near horizon, big chance you'll be able to get a 15600k Z890, 5060 for that same money, making a big jump in generations and still have the ability to improve

When flying along a chain of waypoints JESTER will correctly update the waypoint to the next one in the sequence at waypoint passage, but he just calls out that the nav is updated. Unlike a human WSO JESTER does not say which waypoint is not selected which makes if very difficult to know that you are approaching your IP at Waypoint 7 for example. This is also very useful information to know when doing canyon runs because the pilot could then now which type of turn is coming up next

This automatic behavior currently overrides whatever you have set previously. It is planned to add some sort of permanent options which he doesn't overrule anymore. There is currently a bug when youcswitch the door too fast during AAR that can cause him to get stuck in the wrong radar mode. Fixed in the upcoming build.

  28. I like watching videos before the release, especially when it is so close. It increases the pleasant anticipation for me. And in this case, since Casmo (whose channel I liked already beforehand) actually flew the thing, they are particular insightful. I can absolutely recommend watching some of them. 29. You are aware that is NOT a belt, but a flexible feeder system?! ...and actually the munition transport inside(!) the feeder is animated (at least it was in one of the recent videos). But honestly that's the least of my personal priorities. Though I like the details, I am more interested in the Flight Model (that seems to be top notch according to Casmo, a real life KW pilot) and the cockpit I actually look at 99% of the time and then the avionics and internal systems. If my focus would be on creating cinematic DCS video, my priorities may be different, but for simulating flying and fighting in the KW, I definitely prefer top notch FM and systems.

  30. Not trying to sound needy with the constant posts.. Sorry not sorry. Static objects adding multiple unit numbers instead of copy pasting every single one. About to spend the next couple hours copy/pasting these perfectly together inline when it could just be done by adding X amount of the unit. I know some static objects can do this but this would be great if you could do it to all. I think every mission maker can agree that this would be insanely appreciated. MAKE IT HAPPEN NOWnull

  32. Dear friends and pilots. We apologize for map update delay, this will be a good lesson for us in the future. We are confident that the update will be released soon, we are working hard on it. But rest assured that we read feedback and look at new bugs and improvements from users. We are preparing not just an update that will fix most of the bugs, but massive map improvement that provide more flying options and adds new visual content. We have already finished modeling airports and unique objects that were announced before. Now we work on unique scenes and map optimization. Most of the time is spent on small improvements and bug fixing, although globally it already seems that everything is done. For every small update, it is necessary to build the entire project and update must be approved, then users need to download it, this is inconvenient in our opinion. That's why we decided to release Phase 3 along with the bugs fixed, but we didn't take into account the time factor, which goes by very quickly. Thank you for your patience and support.

  33. Some of you people may remember my project with making a Viggen Stick Grip, from several years back. I started out making silicon moulds of a real stick, thinking I’d make a master plug and use that to cast wax copies and cast aluminium copies. Well, that turned out to be too time consuming and expensive. Then I figured I’d cast it in a two component alu-resin called TC-814 and that looked promising, until they stopped making the resin… In the meantime it turned out I suffer from a STD with a 100% mortality rate, called Life (this is a joke ). So things have been slow… Then Authentikit emerged and sparked my interest. I made a functioning trigger and safety mechanism in CAD and I had the stick 3D scanned. But making printable copies from a scan, that would allow me to use the custom made trigger/safety mechanism turned out to be suboptimal. I tried to rebuild the stick in CAD, but the darned thing was probably hand crafted in the 60’s and has very few flat surfaces, straight lines or angles. It’s mostly 3 dimensional curves everywhere and it suffers from surface irregularities probably because it was sand casted and cleaned up manually. Then I got a tip about a relatively new 3D design software called Plasticity and OMG, this made a difference..! It’s perfect for these kind of designs. And If you have been brave enough to read all the way down here, I will treat you to a few pictures, showing you how far along the project is now… The stick with the holes in it is the 3D scan and the other one is my CAD copy. Here’s a video of how I did the knurling on the grip. A very tedious undertaking, I can assure you. And lastly a couple of pics of the foot.

  40. The bad news is that your plan is unlikely to work. If you go for a newer CPU, it'll use a different socket type, so you'll need a new motherboard. It'll also address either DDR4 or DDR5 RAM, neither of which you probably have. In addition, the newest NVME2 drives are able to be faster, and with the power draw of the latest and greatest GPU, chances are you'll need a bigger PSU. Put all that together = get a new PC. On a positive note, you could use your existing PC for either your kids/friends or set it up to run a dedicated server.

  46. The best way to figure out trim and AoA for landing is to practice slow flight in the F-4: Your overall goal is to maintain heading and altitude without climbing or descending while going as slow as possible. 1. Pick a heading and altitude to start 2. Reduce your throttle to idle. 3. When you get to 250Kts, lower your landing gear, at 220 lower your flaps. 4. Keep increasing your AoA to maintain altitude as you slow down. Eventually, you will be on AoA and you will hear the solid tone. 5. Now that you are at the correct AoA, you need to slowly start increasing power to maintain altitude. You want to freeze your airspeed and altitude so neither gauge is moving. You are now in slow flight. 6. Now trim away the stick pressure to maintain what you have. You want to set and then trim, do not trim to set or you will never stabilize. Hand fly the aircraft to the position you want it in and then trim away the forces (harder to do in a sim as you have to do it by look and not feel). Fly around for a few minutes like that; no changes in airspeed and altitude, but definitely do turns (this will help with landing patterns). The F-4 is pretty stable. As mentioned by others, the airspeed will change based on weight. With full air to air missiles and about 300lbs of gas or so, the speed seems to stabilize around 157kts. 7. Now, in order to descend, you just need to reduce a little power. Adjust throttles to maintain whatever rate of decent you want. Don't pull too much power or you will drop like a rock, and it takes a little bit for the J79s to spool back up and arrest your decent. Your airspeed and AoA should not change much while in the decent. Use pitch to maintain airspeed and power for altitude. Practice doing this in slow flight before attempting landing and you will see and hear the visual queue's you need to land. 8. Next I would practice straight in approaches to the runway where you can judge if you are too high or low and find that 2.5 or 3 degree sweet spot. Once you have those, you can add in pattern work. At that point you are just maintain altitude and airspeed in the turn until you are on final and ready to descend. It is very tricky at first, but practicing slow flight helps a lot with any aircraft.
