Yes, most of us would I guess. However more than one thing can be true at the same time. The way this constantly happens with ED with almost everything they announce, whether module EA release, normal patch, Q&A newsletter answers ,whatever you name it , points to systemic organisational/planning issues. Which is why people are getting annoyed. Its not because they delayed this one patch. They delay everything and usually more than once and usually at the last minute. Its not the first rodeo and it seems ED is not really learning from their experience. I totally get why people react negatively.37 points

Don't understand the negative responses to be honest. I'd rather a working patch than one that breaks aspects of the game that was released to satisfy the impatient. Take your time ED, get it right even if it takes weeks rather than days. I will enjoy flying what I already have in the meantime.26 points

Nobody's ever going to be upset about playing a less buggy patch, but that's not what this is about. This is about ED setting dates a month in advance, and not being able to hit even the simple date which was going to be for a patch. On top of that, when the delay is only 1 day (which they must say for a reason) and for them to go "oh sorry another big bug came up" last-minute signals to the entire community they don't have it in order. That is what people are upset about, constant promises ED cannot deliver upon. ED desperately need to overhaul how they compile and test patches, and how they subsequently set deadlines. They cannot keep leaving the testing to the last days because time and time again bugs pop up (as happens during testing) and the release dates for even regularly schedules patches gets blown past. They need to get their stuff in order if they want to save any bit of face at this point, the excuses have worn out.23 points

I'm getting really tired of this narrative. "If you want to hold ED accountable for bad release date estimates you clearly want broken patches rushed out the door." No, most of us just want a date that will be reasonably accurate. If that can't be delivered, then don't give a date. A few patches here and there slip...give them some slack. But this cycle has become an epidemic, and it's no longer even just mission a patch here and there, but promising another release, then missing it, then another, and missing that one. Smartest thing they're doing now is NOT telling us when the next patch is right now. Just stop giving the dates and it comes out when it comes out. Of course, that's not the business model. The model is to gin up hype so people are excited for a release, and fair enough. That's marketing. But you should only be doing that if you know you can hit that milestone. You have a buffer. You have real confidence you can hit that target. Can ED not see that this hurts the brand and their PR? Or do the numbers show that the people who hate this cycle really are a minority and it doesn't affect their business all that much? I have a hard time believing that as this cycle continues, it won't hurt the business over time.19 points

It will be a huge patch especially with the terrain introduction and updates, plus all the new features and fixes. Hopefully we can share a log with you all before the patch.16 points
-
Just an idea ED : - Do what you need to prepare the update. - Run the various tests until you have validated and confirmed that you are ready for release. - And then you can announce an update which will be released 7 days later. So no delay, pressure-free way of working for those who work and no frustration for customers16 points
-
Can't make this stuff up. They should stop announcing anything, can't take them seriously anymore anyway at this point. I get that its software and unexpected things do pop up, but the frequency , not to say consistency with which these busted release dates and last minute patch delays happen with ED seems to point to serious planning/organisational and QA issues.16 points

@BIGNEWY please pass on my genuine thanks to the team for not shipping a broken patch which would have "ruined" everyone's weekend while they tried to figure out what's wrong, I am pleased that they are taking a commitment to improve quality of patches, over volume, and even timliness.14 points
-
Man, stop over reacting people. You know what I'm going to do? Go upstairs and play the game. Crazy huh? You'd think some DCS players passion is just waiting for patches.14 points
-
No, you have your ice cream. Many others may not. Your playstyle might be unaffected by the lack of an update at the moment, others might be at a point where they are temporarily "grounded" in DCS. For example: I myself am not playing DCS at the moment, due to a lack of content that I haven't already played to death, and when I tried to re-play a campaign (that I played a dozen times already), I get game crashes (the issue has been fixed "internally" for over a month now. The F-4 ATM is back in the virtual hangar due to performance issues. Thankfully, I have a lot more things in life that keep me busy and entertained, so I'm not angry or even overly disappointed. But I can muster enough empathy for those who may be more "dependent" on DCS for their escapism. In other words: I am slightly annoyed at the posters who are annoyed that people are annoyed about the delay, while being annoyed at those posters who are overly dramatic in their expression of their annoyance.13 points
-
Um, I don't think people are upset about delays per se, people are upset because it's the third delay and the second within the last 24 hours.13 points
-
They should be much better at predicting a realistic release date. Now announcing a delay the second day in a row, merely few hours before anticipated release seems to me that they have no clue about current state of the patch. Kola map update end of June - Nope CH-47 EA release end of June - Nope Afghanistan Map EA release end of June - Nope F-15E Radar fix - Nope General updates to the rest - Nope13 points

It's one thing to be disappointed by delays, but DDOS'ing ED in response to the delays? C'mon people....13 points

As I see it (as an ex-IT guy), the ED coding staff is too small, improperly managed, and QA is missing (which dumps QA on us.) I was a developer back when the IBM 360/370 was THE thing. Nothing I ever released had coding flaws in it. A customer would want more things added but that usually brought about a weekend addition followed by a six week QA check. There was no such thing (back then) as a Beta release. All of it was a finished thing. If we said that "it" did something, and it didn't or created a problem, the company's name was mud and died off. Coders, Docs, System Analyists, DP managers, and company owners/operators rarely made it back into the "known" IT world. Sometimes, good ones ended up at university, changed careers, or retired. Idiots would work until burn-out and quit. I got burned out and tried several years lecturing at colleges and university, and quit anyway. ED is the ONLY mil-sim able to give us what we all want. ED is seriously flawed. We all just have to live with it and enjoy the miracles ED produces in the manner in which they produce.12 points

Good Morning Everyone. Happy 4th of July to everyone here in the US. Hey Ienatom, yes, I will release her sometime this month. I'm finishing up the Italian Escorts now. I created a version of the ITS Alpino yesterday. The main gun on the Alpino is different than the ITS Luugi Rizzo Class. The Cavour will require a lot of testing with regard to plane parking and launching. What you see below is not final. I'm also finishing up the Submarine pack. With so much going on, I'm not sure I will be able to add a new Chinese and Russian sub to the pack. If not it will be in another release. The new SSGN weapons pack a punch. As mentioned I will save the release until after DCS Updates. I want to make sure the code doesn't get broken again. Thank you all for your patience. DCS Updates have been delayed again. They are working on it now because I can't access it online.12 points

Stable Version Current version number: 2.9.5.55918 Next planned update: To be announced Dear All, We regret to inform you that additional time is required to thoroughly test the recent fixes, necessitating another delay. We will communicate the new patch date as soon as the tasks are completed. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Eagle Dynamics11 points

We know these delays are disappointing and we are sorry for them, but if we find issues that can not be fixed in time it would not be right to push the issue out to you folks. Delaying is the best option. thank you11 points

Please excuse me - Normally I´m very patient and have a great understanding, but this really starts to become ridiculous. This comes ontop of the Razbam dispute, CH-47 delay without a new date, missing Kola Map updates - a map that I find to be in too early acces. Note that I´m a long time user of DCS - all the way back to BS1. I have bought most modules as EA and never had a problem with what >I got, apart from the too early F-16 and the SC "incident" for acouple of years ago.11 points

Yes, but I rather prefer an announcement of a working patch after the patch is ready instead of an advance announcement, that basically is the "hope" to manage to have a working patch in the near future, with a date that's unreliable anyway. What's the problem with a surprise announcement: "Today is patch day. Patch is live." ?11 points
-
This! They should stop announcing dates and release the patch when it's ready along with the patch notes. Really, nobody would bother. It is more "damaging" to announce a date and not being able to meet it (and this time for three times!) than to simply say nothing and let people wait without expectations. Because once you build an expectation, people will keep you accountable for it.11 points

ED should maybe look into re-evaluating their patch policy. Instead of packing everything into one large mega-patch, where one broken item can hold back the whole package, maybe consider splitting patches into smaller, but more frequent, updates, like splitting core updates and fixes from content releases and updates? Easier to manage, quicker to release, and customers won't have to wait for months for a small fix for a highly annoying bug (like the game crashing every time a missile hits a target in the Zone 5 campaign, due to an internally already fixed glitch). At least get me going again now with smaller fixes, and wow me later with the big kahuna patch. For example, I can't see why content such as the "Gamblers" and "MiG Killers" campaigns can not be released now, while the team focuses on those items that need fixing with the core update. Just my 2c.11 points

To the Eagle Dynamics Team: Thank you for all of your hard work providing me with hours of entertainment and enjoyment, and for taking the time to try to deliver a more satisfying patch. To all of the overly entitled armchair game developers: Give it a rest. Maybe ED should go back to a 2 version model. The Beta branch with multiple updates per year for people with reasonable expectations in regards to delays and a Stable Branch with a single annual update for anyone not willing to manage expectations and need a solid release date.10 points

the updates or patches are far from a win-win situation for ED Patch is released, possible outcomes: - the sim becomes unplayable: users complain - the sim is playable but with frequent bugs: users complain - the sim with all the new features/stuff work flawlessly: users asking what's next ED??? next map? next module? next core upgrade? dynamic campaign? no news?? lack of transparency? pay razbam!! hawk=strike eagle?? is ED near bankrupt? you leave users in the shadows!!.... and so on ad infinitum9 points

We already suffered that era until a couple of years ago ... I much prefer how it is now, so that the patch drama happens just once a month rather than weekly.9 points

We share our plans, if those plans change we let you know. People will be unhappy when dates change of course, and many will express that. But if we need more time we will always take it, its better to have a good patch than a bad one. Either way dont let it ruin your day, we will get the patch, and soon everyone will be enjoying new content.9 points

is the communication from ED always perfekt, no. BUT they are humans also Software is not an easy task. I work in Fibre Soulutions, so we also have Software that always needs to be programmed. Many many times, our Team have a date and everythings seems to go as planed, but a few hours to the release something very unexpectet happens...... so thats why im not mad at ED for delays at the last moment, this can and will happen. Not just to ED. I think we all need to learn again to be more forgiving. We share the same Hobby and passion, that should bind us, not seperate us. I would never take a day off for a realease date, a module or a game in gernerall will be there after that day no offence to anyone that does it, i just dont think its a good plan since it god anounced im hyped for it and would love to get in the pilot seat but hey, its not like the world is going down if it takes longer than i hoped better to get an good early acces then get a unplayable one .)8 points

In my opinion, I prefer the patch to be delayed until all the major issues are solved than having something broken that could spoil my gameplay. Just take your time and keep up the good work guys. Hoping to see and enjoy the map!7 points

Oh, now that you mention it. It's not ED that has a problem with patch management, it's the people supporting the game that are to blame for all the delays. Good thing we have smart people like you. I almost thought ED had an internal issue. I almost fell for it. A question from me to the geniuses among us. If someone is really p*ssed off, regardless of whether it seems justified from another point of view or not, what would be smarter? To inflame the situation further and point out how childish he or she is, or, if you know you can't calm the person down, simply not to write anything? Three guesses for everyone! I've already found my answer, I'm curious to see what the geniuses have to say.7 points

ED, synonymous with over ambitious, and under delivered. Sorry to say, you need to start being more realistic with your time tables. When the running joke about your company is " 2 weeks", y'all need to re-evaluate how you choose to announce info.7 points
-
I like they have a good enough QA to detect game breaking bugs that ruin the game. The game is just fine already and really fun, go enjoy it. The patch will be ready when its ready.7 points

We will share more detail in the newsletter about the delay. thank you7 points

I have my own theory about all those fresh accounts that spread bad energy right from the get go - but spelling it out would probably give me some warning points. However - I hope ED is aware of potential problems and monitors this.7 points

We may share the patch notes early but best to wait and see for now. We should have some news in tomorrows newsletter about the delay. thank you6 points

Maybe it is the only way forward nowdays, but I think the longer update cycles is a mistake. It seems like a large part of the community is running on salty fumes since a while back. And while a few Pre-Order delays and the RB situation contributes, the biggest factor, in my opinion, is the longer patch cycles. Early Access content needs to move at certain pace to keep players happy and it's not good that we're running at 6 weeks+ between updates. They get frustrated or bored by waiting. And when the update finally arrives, their most anticipated feature did not make it in time. So then another six weeks of frustration begins. It is a dilemma how to deliver both stability and pace, but I think it's worth figuring out. Anyways, I hope that this next update turns out great when it arrives.6 points

From my point of view, the underlying problem is that ED has no competition, it is the only one on the market for semi-realistic combat flight simulators. In other types of markets where there is competition and the actors make an effort not to look bad with their clients, (who are the ones who feed them) this type of deficiencies (constant postponements) make them fall to the basement of the market, leaving them, as is now the case, without any credibility, I like to compare ED's behavior with really professional companies, ED always loses, always. That is to say that we, the clients, have to wait and nothing more, if you don't like it you put up with it (take the dog to the park, start playing and keep quiet) because you have no other option, it is already known that when ED proposes a date you will be a silly if you believe him, ED NEVER keeps his promises or his dates. But it's better to wait until the patch is good and doesn't break anything, of course it does, but in the end every patch ED release breaks something else, doesn't it? But I repeat, if you don't have it ready, don't publish it. On the other hand, it is true that patches are a series of fixes, fixes and more fixes, the improvements or innovations are almost nil. As I said at the beginning, everything happens because ED has no competition. (Google translator)6 points

After a hundred or so takeoffs in the F-4 this question is becoming real annoying.6 points
-
The F-4 alone must be one of the most complex flight sims ever offered to the public. As well as all the other modules each patch has to cater for. DCS continues to offer a calibre of product we wouldn't even dare dream about a few short years ago. So let's cut the guys some slack, eh? Otherwise we're in danger of sounding like a bunch of spoilt brats. This community strives to be better than that.6 points

There’s a likely official fix for Mudhen in the patch tonight, I suggest keeping your Budgie.zip on hand and simply deleting the Budgie folder in \Saved Games\DCS\Mods\services\ to test the Mudhen once patched. Once you’re satisfied that the Mudhen radar functions, delete Budgie.zip. Budgie will continue to live on github and potentially be updated in the near future with planned features if you ever need it again. I only urge caution and checking because the only confirmation of a fix coming was from NineLine in discord, but it was a direct response to a user question about the F-15E radar being fixed in the patch during a time the discord was exploding with people upset about the patch delay. I appreciate all the kind words of support and am glad I could help you, Budgie was never intended to live long and I hope we don’t need it after the patch. Traffic stats from github:6 points
