Here's my Christmas gift to the DCS community: a free bonus mission for the Debden Eagles P-51 Mustang campaign. What's more, you can download it for free even if you don't own the campaign until the end of the year: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZGJQeA--b1u0thRwc6ZB_RcO-b-S8Ep1?usp=drive_link14 points

There haven't been any major delays in the last months, so we're still on track for release in 2025.9 points

Time for an update. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a working script to automatically trace all rivers (that one doesn't work at all). This means I have to draw 100% of rivers by hand, and it's a very long process. I've just finished Cyprus and the western part of Turkey. It's only the beginning... and my current map is based on the early 2024 version of the Syria terrain. Below: red = done5 points

Of course, I can. In the first prompt, I told OpenAI to find all available information about the aircraft's characteristics. In the next prompt, I pasted a *.json file exported from Moza Cockpit and told AI to learn and modify it according to the acquired knowledge. Then it created its own. I used the free version of OpenAI. The profile seems to work correctly, but I don't know how it should really be, because I'm not a pilot. You can see the AI working in the attached video. I've been thinking more about which major releases are still un-hinted and un represented in DCS. There aren't many left really, especially modern US fighters (lets face it, they make up the bulk of the sales and are the most popular releases). The Carrier air wing is pretty much complete (A-6 and USN F-4 already in the pipeline). The most prolific aircraft of of the last 40 years are already here (F-16, 15C, 15E, A-10, F-5, with A-7, Tornado, Typhoon, on the way. There have been numerous Vietnam-era aircraft announced, and we are all familiar with the problem of modern Russian aircraft, but nevertheless the MiG-29A is incoming. Rotary wing still has plenty of mileage, with the various Blackhawk variants, Cobra, Seaking, and plenty of others. Regarding logistics, the C-130 is in development, might we see a C-17 from ED, the current lack of an updated AI model (which wouldn't look out of place in FS2004) could mean it is part of of bigger project in the background and will come with the full module? The big names most notable by their complete absence are the F-111, the Rafale and Gripen, lacking even AI models. The F-111 could be even more important if we lose the F-15E, which currently is the only true all-weather attack aircraft in the whole game (at least until the Tornado arrives). There are loads of core upgrades we could list, but the big reveal has always been a new airframe, and almost always (only the F-4 AFAIK) direct from ED rather than a 3rd party. So lets see some more unfounded wild speculation please.4 points

Also typische Doppelbelegung. Nun funktioniert es wie gewünscht. Nochmals DANK und schönen Advent. ex814 points

When the Apache first came out we were told we would be getting MPSM and Flechette rockets, and the ability to create our own loadouts by zone in the rocket pods. No word on these things for a LONG time, and nothing in the road map. Are these still expected any time this century?3 points

Just thought I'd jot down a few notes for anyone else that that is considering an alternative to a mouse for DCS World in VR. I use a tray that sits between my throttle and HOTAS, and while one could put a mouse on it, a stationary pointing device makes more sense given the limited space and limitations of VR. I've been flying with the Apple Magic Trackpad 2 for several years, and then just started testing a Kensington Slimblade Pro this week. I'll just place a list here of what each does well and what the limitations are. Both devices can be used wirelessly via bluetooth, but I use both via USB. The Magic Trackpad utilizes the Mac-Precision-Touchpad driver, which allows it to be used as a Windows Precision Touchpad. This gives the ability to use a lot of gestures, but not a lot of customization options here. The Kensington Slimblade Pro utilizes Kensington Works. A regular mouse with a scrollwheel is really the gold standard to judge against, so if that fits with your sim setup, just go with that. There are two primary functions that utilize the mouse in DCS World: the map screen / mission editor and clickable cockpits / comm menu / rearm menu. Apple Magic Trackpad Great for no-eyes ambidextrous use. It's a large touchpad, and wherever your finger makes contact on the trackpad, that's where it is. If you've used a laptop, you already have the muscle memory built. No moving parts, and no crevices to gather any grime. Scrolling is intuitive, two fingers swiped up or down and the knob spins. Zooming in and out of maps and external views is accomplished with the pinch gesture. It can be a lot of pinching (and whatever the inverse of pinching is) when moving around on a map. Scrolling lots / fast is easy, precision scrolling is very difficult. For example, trying to set the altimeter or just barely turn on the lights. It's a large touchpad, so you can drag a long way before you run out of space, but if you have to raise your fingers the click-drag is terminated. Left clicking and right clicking works quite well, just tap with one finger for left or two fingers for right Holding the left mouse button is done with a quick tap-tap of a single finger. This works pretty well for most applications, although sometimes you get a click-click instead of a click-hold due to the speed of your taps. Precision dragging a slider such as changing the curve on a axis is also a challenge. Holding the right mouse button down is impossible. There are clickable cockpit switches that you need to hold with right click, measuring in the map, are among the challenges here. Precision is improved by turning down the pointer speed, and given the size of the touchpad you can turn it way down and not run out of space. Precision Touchpad settings in Windows initially looks pretty exhaustive, but there is not much customization that can be done that is applicable to flight simming. The most useful is probably the three and four finger tap, for which you can create a custom keyboard shortcut. Polling rate appears to only be 92 hz, which makes for a less smooth operation on the desktop, but realistically, I can't tell the difference in the VR cockpit. Photo plus screen capture from Windows touchpad settings in spoiler: Kensington Slimblade Pro Your fingers have one home base: they need to be on that ball. Fortunately the ball is easy to find in the blind. What isn't always as easy to find is the clickable buttons, they are huge buttons, but only the 1/3 closest to the ball is actually clickable. Not a huge problem, but not as good as the Trackpad in this regard. It might make sense to add some masking tape or similar tactile indicator. There are four physical clickable buttons, of which you will probably want to make the bottom right and left the left/right clickers, and then you have two more to be creative with. The Kensington Works software allows you to select anything for those four buttons: launch programs, keyboard shortcuts, etc. One limitation is that the only modifiers keys for keyboard shortcuts is ALT, CTRL, SHIFT, and Windows: there isn't a Left Control option, for example. You could even customize shortcuts for two buttons clicked simultaneously. You can hold those clickable buttons down easily while dragging with the ball. It's really pretty easy and intuitive. Right, left, middle, it's glorious in the F10 map compared to the Trackpad. Scrolling is handled by twisting the ball horizontally. You can customize the rate of scrolling in Kensington Works, and I found that the Intertia Scroll setting is excellent for allowing precision adjustments (e.g. setting altimeter) but also being able to spin a dial all the way. The mouse pointer is held stationary (in software) while spinning the ball; this works surprisingly well but still can be challenging to keep the pointer on the knob while you are spinning it. This also accomplishes zooming the map and external views. There is an audible and tactile clicking sound when twisting the ball which comes from a speaker in the device; I kind of like it, but it's odd that there is no way to disable this affect. The trackball plus physical clickers means that you have unlimited dragging. You can set the CPI (Counts per Inch, essentially resolution) with a button on the right side of the device, which combined with adjusting the pointer speed is pretty effective at maximizing precision while still maintaining range of motion. CPI can be set to 400, 800, 1200, and 1600. 1600 will move your pointer across the cockpit by only nudging the ball 30 degrees or so, 1200 seems to be about ideal for my setup. Polling rate appears to only be 128 hz, which makes for a less smooth operation on the desktop compared to a good mouse (1000 hz), but realistically, I can't tell the difference in the VR cockpit. Previous firmware versions (<4.49) had a wired polling rate of 500 hz, but this caused problems, so as of v4.49 both bluetooth and wired modes are capped at about 128 hz. This issue started when the Squelch noise was added to the viper at the start and end of transmissions. I've not noticed it in other modules. Randomly and Intermittently, that squelch noise will get stuck on. causing a loud blast of static through the radio. the only way to get rid of the noise is to cycle the radio channel. No mods installed. Track file available upon request. Please comment bellow if you have also experienced this in the Viper.3 points

Best I could do, F-5A and F-5E F-5E is longer and has a wider wingspan. Wing strakes(LEXs) were enlarged, and cockpit was moved forward 12 inches in order to rebalance the airframe. A quick way to ID an F-5A vs and F-5E is to look at the position of the centerline fuel tank. If its forward and nearly touching the NLG then its an A.3 points

This map has great potential to recreate the famous Air battles, deep strikes and naval strikes of the Iran-Iraq war. TFB.4 Dezful TFB.5 Omidihyeh TFB.6 Busher Would all be in the detailed areas of the map(s). Esfahan as an important base is only in the low res area, maybe a simplified version might be possible? But even just TFBs 4, 5 and 6 would add a whole new dimension for the map and provide a natural playground for the F-4, F-5 and F-14. Please consider adding these. Thanks.2 points

If you launch into the game and go the settings menu, you can manually type a resolution into the box, can't do this in the launcher for some reason. You will need to enter 3840x (2160+small screen height in pixels), you haven't given the resolution of your smaller displays unfortunately. You might also have to turn off "full screen" mode for your windows monitor to not turn black.2 points

I just retested in the lastest DCS version with the latest version of the mod and using the A-10C II keybinds from https://github.com/Munkwolf/dcs-community-keybinds and it's working for me. It looks like the error is happening because the lua command entry files you are trying to inject aren't returning a lua table. Also just double check you are using the latest version of the mod (1.0.12). I just realised that the first post of this thread said 1.0.12 but was actually linking to the 1.0.11 release due to some weird behaviour when I edited the post (I've fixed it now), so you might have downloaded the older version that's incompatible with the newest DCS version. Latest version is here https://github.com/Quaggles/dcs-input-command-injector/releases/tag/1.0.12. If that doesn't work could you send me the InputCommands lua files you are trying to inject so I can try to replicate, I might write a check in the mod so it won't break the controls menu if an invalid lua file is injected.2 points

(Slight thread drift) Really interesting video. Also shows that weird Attitude Indicator flick in roll in the region of 20deg Nose up Nose Down. Bucic mentions this in his AI bug thread Dec 6 Seems to me its like the normal "Controlled precession" you see approaching the vertical but in this case its happening inappropriately. Although this would be a very tricky feat for sure, I don’t think requiring a full shut down to add or remove the FCR is a good idea. For the same reason that hot starts are an option, and rearming only takes 30 seconds, not everyone has the desire (or time) to play everything out in real speed. You could also argue that bringing back an aircraft with a missing wing and an engine out should take more than 170 seconds to repair.2 points

Just flown over Iran on the Iraq map. The F10 "map" shows the location of a whole bunch of Iranian airfields. Even has Tehran on it. Unfortunately, it's all flat textures. Worst case scenario, we could add some buildings ourselves.2 points

Just received the damper... there is still quite some distinct stiction there, as I suspected. Oh. well... I might just put it on, because I mostly fly F-16... and helos is where the sticktion force is most annoying. .... until my own force generator driven rudder comes online. I am planning to start writing the RPi Pico based USB controller firmware this holiday season.... maybe...2 points

Risky operation! "Airmen from the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division practiced a new rescue scenario for a downed crew. As part of the exercise, the crew of a downed OH-58D Kiowa Warrior had to fly to a location about a mile from the crash site, where they would be picked up by another OH-58D. Because of the small size of the Kiowa helicopters, the rescued airmen had to strap themselves into the fuselage and fly outside. Such rescue methods were used in Iraq in 2004 and 2007, when AH-64 Apache evacuations took place. The exercise, conducted by Big Red One, was intended to help develop procedures for such an eventuality, but without apparent success."2 points

While seething with envy to your specs, I found out that one setting for my (much lesser) rig did wonders in VR (and VR only): I found that setting LOD Switch Factor to 0.4 immensely boosted fps (but I'm also running on lowered settings for many other settings, and my max FPS is fixed at 45, half of my HMD's refresh -- running a Vive Pro 2)2 points

First of all: support and passion are an absolute must. That's what DCS is all about. That must not be forgotten. So Mr. Grey, don't leave it out. It's more of a wish list than a real guess as to what will come, but here are my top points: DCS: Needs to be more alive! I want personnel at the airfield, FOB or FARP without having to pre-position every personal like in a Diaorama. I want smarter troops. AI is needed now. The troops should look for cover on their own. JTACs should search for targets on their own. Soldiers should leave burning vehicles. There should be soldiers who give medical help or reload artillery. A mortar firing without infantry just looks stupid. As a helicopter pilot, I want to transport my troops, bring urgent medical aid, provide fire support and bring supplies. The current troops that behave like wooden dolls and can be shot over like zombies should be a thing of the past by 2025. More old modules should be remastered. I think it's great when beloved modules are given a thorough overhaul. Please keep it up. Besides, Vulkan will probably...have to come.2 points

Are we going to get any bases in Saudi Arabia? Can't imagine a Desert Strom campaign without some air bases in SA, like Al Jouf from which all it began. We don't need detailed region with villages and stuff but at least two air bases in Saudi Arabia would really help to make a proper Desert Storm campaign2 points
