Amazing :thumbup: Im already loving those snowy trees :thumbsup:

 

...some idea for other winter improvements: add some snow on the roofs too, to the top of the hangars, factories, gas/oil tanks, rail+roads, run+taxiways please :bounce:

would love to see a really hard/anowy winter as well :music_whistling:

 

I'm afraid that's not possible as those block buildings are not divided per season.

that's a big negative Dear Artist :D

 

you can add the used "snowy-buildings/roads/run+taxiway" texture file names into the terrain.config.lua as definied winter textures

...but don't forget to define the "non-snowy" original-textures (autumn/spring/summer) for vfstextures/vfstexturesMin/vfstextures2 as well :idea:

I'm not touching terrain.cfg.lua as each terrain mods have their own. Including my own terrain.cfg.lua would break the terrain mods. This might be better request for LucShep, Barthek, or Mustang.

Besides, blockbuilding textures are not vfstextures. They're in Models.

The difference between stock and your trees with CGTC textures is a no brainer! My dcs looks fantastic now, thank you hugely.

take out the appropriate blockbuilding texture(s) from Models and put in the appropriate seasons+vfstextures/vfstexturesMin/vfstextures2 lists ...and will work nicely by seasons

You tried this? Recently? Taking textures out of zip doesn't work anymore even in vfstextures.

And again, it wont work anyway because editing terrain.cfg.lua means conflict with other terrain mods.

Updated to Version 4 with Winter.

 

Also wanted to explain the distance based alpha since it's not that noticeable unless pointed out. It basically scales the alpha channel of the texture based on distance (size actually) so it keeps the detail better. Difference might be subtle but it'll make things look more natural and blend better overall. No performance loss from this.

Also added Force Low texture versions as bonus. It will force LOW texture quality trees for HIGH Terrain Texture setting in options because I personally don't see any difference at distance I'm looking at these trees.

I can't tell the difference between Low or High in-game either.

Tested and working for me. Can you see the images on my previous post? They're on same folder. If you see the images, the downloads should work. Try deleting browser cache and history.

 

They all show up. But after messing around I noticed just something weird going on. When clicking those links, absolutely blank tabs open and nothing happens. But then, when clicking the address bar and hitting enter, the download dialogue pops up and I could get the files. Usually that happens without further ado...

I was just thinking something: When we look to some areas where there are too many trees in real life, often trees touch each other and create some kind of continuous leaves covered surfaces.

 

Is it possible to create some trees bigger in the foliage part so they would touch each other in some places of the map and completely cover the ground?

Unfortunately, models can't be edited. At least to my knowledge. There are so many things I want to fix if I have access to the models.

 

Also as a fun fact, trees may appear to touch each other from distance but if you actually go into forest and look up at all the branches, most of them do not touch each other. It's a phenomenon called Crown shyness. Tree's have always been practicing social distancing.
