Dang, one more on the Day-1 purchase list...

DCS: Normandy 2 will be available as a complete map for $59.99 USD. If you have either DCS: Normandy 1944 or DCS: The Channel maps, you can purchase Normandy 2 for $14.99 USD. If you own both, you can purchase DCS: Normandy 2 for only $9.99 USD.

I hope the discount applies to steam too?

Also since we got pricing,  does that mean it's close?

I had no intention of purchasing additional maps and instead concentrate on new aircrafts, but the very attractive upgrade price is impossible to ignore 🙂 does anyone knows if the current Normandy DlC Campaigns will be updated to be compatible with the new Normandy?

Sorry if this is obvious, but it wasn't clear to me from the newsletter. Is Normandy 2 going to be backwards compatible with the Channel and Normandy 1? Would someone getting into DCS: WW2 still need to purchase the channel to play missions/campaigns and multiplayer servers that are currently using the Channel map? Or will buying Normandy 2 give you access to everything?

Putting in the work and applying new tech to perfect an aging, unfinished DCS asset, all at a fair price? Outstanding! This is the way.

I hope this works out for ED and Ugra. Then maybe we can see this same method applied to other aging assets (NTTR, PG, some of the older planes that need some love).

I have Both Maps, and 10USD is nothing to discuss about BUT I believe it is not fair ! the business model is not what I expected, its not about money or price tag its about strategy! are we going to see Syria2, PG2, Nevada2, Sinai2, Pen2 ... F-5_2, Hornet2 ?! thats the question

If they improve the size and quality like this for just 10 bucks? I‘m all for it. Or do you want to play on 10 year old graphics forever?

And nobody gets their legacy maps removed if I‘m not mistaken?

Interesting, so we get a merge of Channel Map into Normandy and also extension or Normandy. Not bad, that makes full sense to do. Pricing policy seems reasonable as well. Good.

If I understood correctly, those are and will be three different standalone maps. The newest just covers the area that the old ones did and therefore renders them somewhat obsolete.

Given the price of other modules and maps, another 10 USD is not a big issue, of course, we can always wait for a price drop...or one can skip it altogether... Can't help but to say "I have spoken".

Allow me to focus my mind on the MB-339A

Wow, reading the Normandy 2 announcement was a rolelrcoaster of emotions. First i was mildly dissapointed, because i thought the update was free, but then reading about the size of the project, a price tag seemed fair again. Then i noticed that both legacy normandy and the channel map will be kinda obsolete with the new map, but seeing the relatively fair upgrade path it seemed ok again. Then there is the aspect of community fragmentation with legacy map vs old, but the new map tech seems to solve that as well.
So all in all, good news i think. It however surely begs the question what drove the decision to do the channel map in the first place. I think ED must get better at plannign those things through and delivering on them!

That said, i'm looking forward to the new Normandy.

Ps: Since the map would allow for many historic scenarios, it would be good to have the option to disable (or hide) the allied landing grounds in France. They are very visible and will always remind the player that the map's date is post invasion.

Coolest thing with Normandy 2 is, that both maps merged together as one. Hopefully performance will not be degraded too much.

Cleaning and refuelling my warbirds now 😚 ...

I wonder if ED will now bundle the Channel map into DCS core, like Caucasus and Marianas, as a kind of free taster WWII map?  Seems unlikely anyone will buy it once Normandy 2 is released for sale.

Thank you Eagle Dynamics! This is great news.

Now I really wonder what this means for the future of other maps.
Will all new announced maps use the same updated technology?
What's the difference in tech used by the Syria map compared to the PG map?
Will the Sinai map use the same technology as the Syria map? And what about the teased, yet to be announced Afghanistan map?
Is DCS moving quicker to a world map than previous anticipated?

Let the speculations soar!

At first I was like:

Who wants to pay for another Normandy map?

Then I was like:

Ugra: announces Normandy 2
ED's The Channel: Am I a joke to you?

Then I got to the part explaining the pricing, coming to the conclusion that this new map ofc is based on the old one, but also somehow must include The Channel given that owning it reduces the price tag and simply asking the question: Why would they want to make that complete area that we do already have again from scratch? And with those owner's discounts, I'm absolutely all in for the upgrade! This will be a great addition.

And the new tech that delivers stuff you don't own in lower quality seems to be the first step towards a grand scale world map, I can perfectly see the exact same thing happen with the Gulf, Syriam Caucasus and the upcoming Sinai as well as the already announced Afghanistan maps and probably an Iraq map as well. And, hopefully, one day... the Crimea, where it all started with Flanker to LOMAC+FC (for purely nostalgic reasons; I've been wanting to see the Crimea back since BS1).
