  2. Chuck's Guide to the AH-64D is finally available! *** Link: https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/ah-64d/ *** I am a few months behind schedule and I apologize to all of you for that. This project was a huge undertaking, and I still have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that I started working on it back in March of this year... 9 months ago. As they say in the business, I was stuck in scope creep hell for a while. The Apache is one of the most complex modules in DCS, but I do not think it is prohibitively difficult to learn. The page count (770) might seem daunting at first, but keep in mind that the operation of the AH-64 is overall not that complicated once you understand the basics. It's a machine of war with modern capabilities that can do many, many things in all sorts of environments. As some of you may know, the Mudspike website is shutting down. With the help of a kind and generous soul, I have found a new home at https://chucksguides.com/, which is where you will find the latest versions of my guides. The next few weeks will be a kind of "test run" to work out the kinks and see what works (or not) with the website. Expect some changes/improvements down the line, but I believe what we have now is functional enough to be useful to the community. Happy reading and Merry Christmas to all of you! Chuck

  9. I'm not suggesting cashing everything for a snapshot. The BFM world is not an all or nothing proposition - can you out-accelerate your bandit? Up high? Down low? Does y our wing perform better at certain speeds wrt turning or climbing? Can you slowly bleed him down? Can you maintain an offensive position in the fight? Bleed your speed as needed, accelerate again and eat away angles. Bleed his energy and start stacking higher than him - if you're slow, he might be too so don't dive for speed. Everything you do is informed by your jet's performance but only as it relates to the bandit's position and performance at that point in time. Some bandits will be harder to BFM than others straight up from a performance perspective. That's where BFM skill comes in, the ability to judge what the bandit is doing and the knowledge of what you're going to do about it (and what you are going to force him to do). Merge faster? What for? It just opens up the turning room - unless you want that. Want to go one circle? You don't need to be fast. Is he faster than you? One circle at the merge, but do it right. Flying aircraft is about finesse, not about applying the simple stuff you read here. There's literally not a single thing I can tell you that will help you win. BFM requires a lot of things to come together on your part. If you can only get better by picking up a better air-frame, the problem is skill related.

  13. Yeah, I certainly hope to see the F-4 in game. Anything else is neat to me but can't beat the F-4 for my favorite module to come out.

  14. Not the point. Nobody has a problem if the F4 is not released this year. Nobody questioning the hard work of HB. But from my point of view it’s bad communication not to tell us that’s it not gonna happen 8 days before 2023. If they told us end of November, “sorry guys we probably not gonna make it in 2022, but Q1 2023 should be possible”, completely fine.

  15. I bought this module via current Christmas sale. Boy what a thrill! This thing feels like a sportwagon compared to the Hornet (which I love none the lesser). I very much like the canopy reflections, and the black out, red out and g-loc effects are so uncanny on spot - in VR I this module gives me the chills! Thank to the developers - why didn't I try this one earlier? The last time I "flew" the Viper was in 1998 or so via "Falcon 4.0". Now I'm inside it!

  16. Can't see why that shouldn't be possible. But with the modern ships I'm making I haven't encountered the need yet. I wish ED would implement ship based chaff in the future though. Also, I've added the two loadout versions of the Karakurt, one with LACM and one with AShMs. And the 34M54T is upgraded to perform more like the real deal, which means much higher speed.

  18. After looking into it a bit, currently in DCS: - EXP on air track -> Map layer zooms on ownship, but zooms link data on air track - EXP on ground track -> Map layer zooms on ownship, and zooms link data on ownship The map layer is clearly bugged and should be zooming on the link data, as seen with the expand on air track, it is still zooming the map data on ownship. Two completely different locations. This part of the bug shouldn't require evidence as it is simply a bug. As for what it should be zooming in on, it should be zooming in on the designated track or point (we should be able to expand on empty space as well), in the case of this report, it should zoom on the ground track, not revert back to the ownship. You can also see how when expanding on a ground track without the MAP enabled, nothing happens (aside from EXP being boxed) because it is incorrectly centering on your ownship (which is already happening without EXP) - turning on the MAP only reveals how the MAP layer is also bugged. Evidence PM'd SAEXP.trk

  21. In general this actually is not the right thread for this discussion. And - @BubiHUN - I get it, you are frustrated, I recently locked a thread of yours about your gripes with the aim54, and we may not see eye to eye on the matter - which is completely fine, and it is also fine that you try to vent your frustration further. But in the end it is still your opinion and facts are not being presented to you to put you down, but to balance out your impression. Now all that is fine, but what is not fine, is to sour the game for others who just want to start out, have a clean slate and fresh set of mind, ready to experience it for themselves and make themselves their own picture. In case you think you are hurting us with that - you are not. In case you are telling them something, which is not fully public and known through forums and else - you are not. In case you think you are saving a guy from a horrible waste of money or something - you are not. You are only setting a negative mood for someone who was looking forward to something new, asking for help, and potentially talking him out of - I will still proudly say - one of the greatest experiences in simming to date. Just because you do not enjoy it, because you struggle with the aim54 or cannot get past its remaining issues and think that an FM that is within 3-5% accuracy (more than required even by professional sims and additionally one of the most accurate feels), is "broken", it does not mean that others agree and do not enjoy it and share your frustration. Nothing's worse imho than trying to take away the joy from folks who enjoy what you do not. So, if you feel like going on a vendetta against us, feel free to do what you please in the whole wide internet, but please also understand that this kind of behavior is not really welcome here. Not because you may chase away a potential customer in such an explicit manner (which I would honestly have to ask myself why we should tolerate even that), but because you are trying to take away their anticipation and potential fun with a great module and setting a bias for them, out of your own disgruntled mood. That's really not ok. And I hope we can simply leave it at that and I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Please keep this thread on topic, everyone. Thank you.

  24. Looks like you’re not actually interested in learning anything from these discussions or - god forbid - improving your own skill set; you ‘re just here to <profanity> on the HB flight model because it doesn’t pander to you. So, on that note, and to mirror the unremittingly passive aggressive tone you’ve adopted I think the only appropriate response is: “Awww, poor baby. Did the bad man take your copium?”

  25. Christmas progress update! The bump map for the front fuselage is approaching the finish line. The wings or rear fuselage (tail) will be next shortly. Most likely, the wings, to give myself a pseudo-break (the fuselage is somewhat challenging to work with because of the rarity of flat surfaces). Yesterday, I did a brief count of what I have so far. I have individually placed with special attention over 3,500 rivets of six different types, and have applied over 6,800 spotwelds, along with 257 Dzus fasteners. So without further ado, screenshots: The rivets and spotwelds on the spinner have completed the busy look more than any other piece honestly The bottom of the radiator scoop turned out to be very busy. Some of the panels, like the access cover under the oil radiator, were troublesome to find the blueprints of Left aft wing root Right aft wing root. The ground power receptacle door got some special attention, a hinged door that has a push lock to close. Much easier for ground crew to quickly open up. Nice side view of all the cluttered mess THE RIGHT SIDE FINALLY HAS RIVETS! The external canopy open/close handle, and the exterior emergency canopy jettison handle. They're grey here because that's how they're prepared as a bump map, before they get turned into a normal map. What's interesting here though is how legible the text is. And on the canopy open/close handle on the sliding frame, that little white smudge there, is the raised numbering of the part number for the handle, 109-318116 Perspective showing that even though much was mirrored from the right side to the left, where applicable, areas were given attention to make them appear slightly different, and make the mirroring less obvious. The fasteners and spot welds were redone here, completely original on the right side from the left. Yes.....I did do the interior of the radiator scoop... The lines look a little jagged here, but that can't be helped, as that's entirely the 3D model there. That can't be helped...at least not by me And one final view of the underside of the cowling. You can spot which doors swing on a hinge. Merry Christmas!!

  27. The problem isn't that the F-18 doesn't "bleed" speed, it's that its lacking pitch authority at higher speeds. It's not an energy problem so much as it is a FCS/FM problem, it can't pull hard enough to lose speed and prevent arcing. You can easily test this by starting at 380 knots, 15000 feet and going into afterburner and performing a split S. In the real world you'd be able to pull hard enough to maintain control of your speed, in DCS you'll end up exiting the turn at 500 knots due to a lack of pitch authority.

  34. For me any simulated head movement in VR is a no, it just feels like bad tracking, I need a 1:1 relationship with my head movement. That said I can happily use vr neck saver, as it the variation is outside of my normal view. Simulated “head wobble” is another matter. Do we see the world moving or the cockpit moving when dealing with bumps? Our eyes are pretty good at remaining fixed on a point even if we are being shaken around. Personally I prefer the cockpit movement or shake rather than the scenery being moved around a fixed cockpit, the latter is like a fixed camera. Most race sims provide a slider to have any value in between world and cockpit movement (although typically default to cockpit movement). I am not sure if a world movement type solution would help in flight sims, the cockpit shaking seems to work fine for me but that is how I choose to run race sims so that may just be my preference. This is a pretty old post but suggests there are some tweaking of g force options for head movement:

Do they happen at random? oh and my apologies, I completely forgot to answer this: It's pretty easy, you can edit the life_raft_yellow.lua in DCS.openbeta\Mods\tech\Civilian Assets Pack - Navy v2.5\Database\CAP Ships. At the top (line18) you will find : GT.max_velocity = 0.20222 That's the max speed in m/s

  38. I'm hoping to see lots of improvements on the item's they've continuously stated "currently in development" for the last few years. So that means new ATC, data cartridges, dynamic campaign, etc, etc. If all we get is hints at new modules, personally I'll be quite disappointed.

  39. Yeah but GlowingAmraam was only responding to the first question, not the FPS counter post even if that did appear earlier. Still, I question the validity of the aforementioned VR, multithreading, and Vulkan being in the video because in my opinion an FPS counter in the corner and VR footage would be way below the level of quality that ED videos have.
