I did a sneaky update for the Hornet guide (6/02/2023 revision), finally including the mysterious ACLS Case III Recovery. It's a fairly complex procedure, but I tried to simplify it as much as possible compared to the ICLS tutorial. Let's learn how to do a "hands off" landing and how to make a ham sandwich while doing so. Oh, and as a side note, I also realized that some of the advice I was giving in my air-to-air refueling tutorials for the Harrier, JF-17, Hornet, F-14B and Mirage 2000 was incorrect (or, more accurately, it made the player's life more miserable than it needed to be). Hopefully, the notes in the revised documents should be more helpful.15 points

If you're interested, here's the start seq for a 15 (It's been nearly 20 years since I've kicked a Strike out of chocks but here ya go!) Both ENG MASTER switches - ON Both ENG CONTROL switches - ON Both ENG GEN switches - ON JFS STARTER switch - ON (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT) JFS HANDLE - PULL (If JFS start is unsuccessful, ROTATE handle CCW, and PULL again) JFS READY LIGHT - ON AMAD FIRE TEST switch - TEST WHEN READY TO START #2 ENG FINGER LIFT - RAISE (#2 engine is always started first unless otherwise required by maintenance) Listen for audible JFS acceleration and airframe vibration from CGB engagement and isolation decupler rotation Verify UTILITY HYD and PC2 HYD press increase Verify OIL press increase AT 20% ENG RPM #2 throttle - ADVANCE TO IDLE STOP AT 50% ENG RPM, JFS should decelerate to idle AMAD/ENG FIRE TEST switch - TEST NLG PIN REMOVAL - VERIFY (Crew Chief is holding it up for you to see before stowing) #1 ENG START (Same as #2 except no fire test and at 50%, JFS will decelerate and shut off. From Baltic Dragon ”Training missions for Strike Eagle. I'm going to break with the tradition of having long, overly complex sessions in favour of larger selection of much shorter ones, lasting max 10 minutes. So instead of flying a 40m sortie to learn about the navigation, you will have 5 or 8 more concise missions, each covering one system at a time. That also has an added value of being much better in terms of updating / troubleshooting later on.”8 points

Well, you definitely don't have to be a professional programmer to create a DCS asset. Sure, it will definitely makes things easier if you have that background, but it's not a requirement. It's actually the diversity that I love about making these assets for DCS. I spend a lot of time researching the asset, its characteristics, weapons, systems etc and formulate a plan of how to emulate these capabilities within the DCS framework. Then it's the 3D model with its customization to fit the desired outcome, all the rigging and animations. I then make the textures, which is good fun in itself, and very different from the other work. Then it's time for the code, to implement the research into actual performance. I tend to make my own weapons, and ammunition so that I can tune its performance in detail. I also customize the sound configuration to make the asset feel less generic. Finally it's all about packaging and creating necessary documentation. I am by no means an expert in any of these areas, but I'm dedicated and willing to spend time learning them all. That's what I enjoy. TL;DR: You need time and dedication - the rest will come.6 points

The VSN A-7 Corsair II This is a Cad Nav model. It is NOT the original VSN model. It has a creative commons license. Credit belongs to the VSN team for kind permission to re-create, Using their old code, this wonderful mod. Please take note, this is a low poly model, modified for DCS. All 3D work, and DCS implementation Is by myself, With the VSN teams blessing. I thank them! Saved games install OvGME ready All errors or omissions are my own. Have fun! A Beta release. Report errors here please. New version! 3.5 Release candidate. With a big thanks to Spino for the pylons, his own, and lua weapon and code up-date. And to the VSN team, and Kobra for the use of the original mod as a template. Feel free to create skins. Post issues here, in this thread. All model errors are my own. No thanks. Modern era maps: Caucasus Persian Gulf Syria Nevada Marianas South Atlantic WW2 maps: Channel Normandy As a DCS:WW2 user I don't want to see modern airfields on a historical map - there are a great number of modern maps that you can use for modern scenarios, leave the WW2 maps as authentic as they can be.5 points

German La$$es wiv drrrty A$$e$ Bit the bullet and made the downwash texture seamless and fluid. Just to realize ive produce a large seam on a dumb place cause i forgot a mask. Also fixed the group beams as the outline is cut off at the tailband. Reduced chipping considerably in not overly exposed areas and added a paint-up around gun ports as an option. Redid the top camo parts for a late war demarcation line. Ive paid attention on the lowering and rising curves imitating the different angles a spraygun would be held when paintin the surface. Means, downcurves have a sharp edge as the gun is held 0°. The up strokes are angled and thus result in a smooth curve. The effect is subtle but visible. Snippet of the actual texture. About an 8th of its size.5 points

FUNC, HACK, LTR, MK, ALT, displays master caution light status Other modules: Any module can be supported, just needs to be added. Comment any modules you want to see supported or leave a "issue" on the Github Project. Github Project + Source Code This add-on does not effect other parts of SimApp Pro and preserves all functionality as you would expect. It just enables other modules to show UFC data and is customizable. Install Instructions Install Tutorial Video: Install Text Instruction Download the Latest Release Unzip the .zip file using 7-zip or some other compression program. You will have a folder titled wwt. Ensure SimApp Pro is running Note: SimApp Pro may overwrite Scripts/wwt/wwtExport.lua. If this happens, this add-on will need to be re-copied over. This may happen during a SimApp Pro update or clicking "Repair Lua" in SimApp Pro Settings. See Note on step 6 for a more permanent way to install. Make a copy of your <USER>/Saved Games/<DCS>/Scripts/wwt folder incase you ever want to undo these changes, I keep mine on my desktop just in case. Copy the wwt folder into <USER>/Saved Games/<DCS>/Scripts/ and replace the existing wwt folder Note: More permanent install (until SimApp Pro has a version update): Do step 5, then replace C:\Program Files (x86)\SimAppPro\resources\app.asar.unpacked\Events\wwt with the wwt folder from step 3 (the one you also copied in step 6 This makes it so every time SimApp Pro starts up, it will not overwrite your add-on). **Requires installation after SimApp Pro does an update.** Launch DCS Select a compatible module. AV88 Harrier: Supports ODU and UFC replica of DCS UH1 Huey: Supports Radar Altimeter on scratch pad A-10C2: Supports static text on the option displays. FUNC, HACK, LTR, MK, ALT MyCustomModuleExample: Shows an example of adding a new module Fly DCS and verify UFC is working. If something does not look right, take a look at <USER>/Saved Games/<DCS>/Logs/dcs.log and look for any errors from the WWT log output. You can also file an issue if you are having problems. Have issues? Leave a comment, i'll do my best to help you. Want to remove this add-on? In SimApp Pro go to Settings->Repair Lua. This will install a fresh version of the "wwtExport.lua" and this add-on will no longer be active. To re-install, re-follow the steps in the Instructions section above. Other modules: Please leave feedback on what module and features you want to see added. Any data about the module can be shown on the UFC. Gun count, airspeed, fuel remaining, VSI, engine percent, etc. These are all module specific and will have to be added, but the add-on is easily update-able to include new modules. If something does not look right: - SimApp Pro most likely overwrote the `Scripts/wwt` folder you added. Just re-copy over the addon `wwt` folder after launching SimApp Pro and you should be good to go. - Look at <USER>/Saved Games/<DCS>/Logs/dcs.log and look for any errors from the WWT log output. You can also file an issue if you are having problems. Know a little bit of coding/lua? You can edit the wwt/ufcPatch/ufcPatch.lua file and export your own data to a module of your choice! Refer to the "CustomModuleExample" for adding a new aircraft and adding new UFC fields. Explore other modules and get that data flowing! Want to pair on this, reach out and I help get you started. How does this addon work? SimApp Pro generates some export lua files to extract game state into SimApp Pro. SimApp Pro then interacts with the UFC. This updated export lua adds code that extracts Harrier ODU/UFC data (and adds the possibility for future module support) and sends what SimApp Pro thinks is an F18 UFC Payload message. But this message bound for SimApp Pro contains custom data from a specific module.4 points

Hi The Normandy2 map is nearing completion. The development team would like to thank the participants of the DCS Forum for their great interest in the project and for their active participation in the discussion of the first results shown last fall. On the map added the original airfield Orly and standart airfields Stoney Cross, Lymington, Odiham, Deadland, Friston, Amiens-Glisy, Poix, Ronai, which were important for this theater. The total number of airfields will be 65. In recent months, considerable effort has been devoted to the task of streamlining the project, and a great deal of work has been done to adjust the color scheme of the whitewashed component parts of the project - buildings, fields, and trees. Much attention was paid to the original objects of Paris and London, including famous historical monuments. Transport and military infrastructure have been worked out in detail. Original objects Airfields (Thanks to the guys from the forum, they made the changes that were possible) What time is it now?4 points

In need for an extra few dials to augment my VR setup for things like the F/A-18 Radar Alt setting or the A-10 & F-16C HSI CRS and HDG dials the internet seemingly pointed me to the perfect solution - a thing called the Knobster… looked perfect but wait… 95€??? And it only works with a 30€ plug-in that may or may not work with DCS?… so $130+ plus shipping from Europe? Good lord cut me a break.. No thanks… having dabbled in Arduino boards for a previous button box and finding the dual encoders necessary online with a slick mini-board w headers I figured I’d just make my own (as I’m sure many people have done as well). (2) $13 encoders from Propwashsim.com (1) $24 arduino micro w headers $10 in short header wires $10 in small plastic project box (Pack of 5 mind you) $6 6ft USB - micro USB cable from Amazon and (with a leftover L bracket I had in the garage) voila a DIY version for < $60… and a deluxe edition with 2 dials instead of 1 LOL the soldering of the encoders to the mini-circuit board was a bit fiddily (Pretty small pins to deal with) but otherwise it was pretty simple to assemble and fits pretty perfectly into the small project boxes I found on Amazon. Shows up as a 10 button joystick in windows easily mapped in DCS so no 30€ plug-in required I’ve got the simple arduino code and 4 project boxes left over happy to throw a box in the mail (USPS) for karma sake if anyone with basic soldering skills is interested in doing the same just DM me… cheers3 points

Hello everyone, it has recently come to my attention that the AIM-9, while in Slave mode on the SMS page, will not actually slave it's seeker to the RADAR Line Of Sight. Instead, once an STT lock is gained, it is stuck to the boresight cross. However this is incorrect, as the AIM-9 seeker should be immediately "slaved" to a radar lock once that is gained. This is what "slave" mode refers to. The evidence is supported by the publicly MLU M1 update manual, page 139, bottom of the page where the AIM-9 SMS features are described. Additionally, further evidence can be provided in PMs with community managers, if desired. We can also see this video of the AIM-9 seeker head immediately slaving to the RADAR lock. I know this video is not the exact F-16 version we have in DCS, but this particular behavior of the AIM-9 should be the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBWBnBrMUfkI have attached trackfiles for both AIM-9X and AIM-9M. Thanks and have an easy week! AIM9MSlaveBug.trk AIM9XSlaveBug.trk3 points

I believe you are referring to the display shown on the right side of this image, which is probably one of the equipment used for armament testing. This aircraft spent most of its time from commissioning to retirement in the Air Development and Test Wing (ATDW) and participated in numerous test programs. In particular, a missile-shaped camera pod was used during the testing of the original Japanese AAM-3 missile, and I suspect that this display may be intended to show that camera image. I will eventually talk to someone who has been involved with that aircraft.3 points

What seems odd to me is, in October 2022 a 2022 release was still projected. So it can't be THAT far off if in October they thought it would be ready to release within 3 months. So I very much hope an imminent release Q1 of 2023. And instead of being trickled info over months, we get "two weeks" of videos followed by a release. I just hope that since the F-4 missed it's initial launch window, it isn't being held back because of the F-15's launch window. Heatblur said they don't have a problem with a simultaneous release, but that doesn't mean RAZBAM doesn't. They might be lobbying ED to hold the F-4 back for X amount of time to not lose sales. I hope I'm wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if I'm right. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk3 points

@Phantom_Mark 1. get a USB-C 10G cable (USB 3.2 Gen2) / WLAN still needed for the startup copyright protection check of Virtual Desktop 2. Enable Developer Mode: Go to Settings > General > About -> Then scroll down and click 7 times on 'Software Version' 3. install the settings.apk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PUTpT9boTKssDXQ2qUCLxOKM3LPxQtlA/view 4. Enable USB tethering via the settings app on Pico 4 5. Check Windows network settings for the new ethernet connection and set it to "private" 6. launch Virtual Desktop on Pico 4 and VD Streamer on Windows (WLAN still active on Pico 4 !!) 7. Let VD connect like usual via WLAN, wait a couple of seconds and then switch off WLAN on the Pico 4 VD should now automatically switch to the USB network connection... Steps 1-3/5 only need to be done once.3 points

In VR, I find that the default head position in most aircraft is way too far forward, like i'm trying to do a line on the glareshield. Unfortunately, when I adjust the position to something more comfortable/realistic (head against the headrest anyone???), the mirrors are all too far inward, and all i can see in the is my pilot's face. nullit would be nice if we could get an option to adjust the inward/outward angle of the mirrors to accommodate different seating positions, or at least a couple extra baked-in angles. I understand that the current positions are chosen to work with the default head position, which is as far forward as it is to make life better for players on a flat screen, but it makes the mirrors entirely useless in VR.2 points

Okay, apologies, I missed that. Not against that idea but given the development time needed to do that work, wouldn't it be better spent developing an actual Fulda Gap map...? If the Red Army had got to Paris, NATO would have been in a pretty parlous state by that point - and given that the Normandy 2 Paris is at the very Eastern fringe of the map the scope for plausible hypothetical scenarios in Western France is a bit thin. Plus the fact that most of the airfields in the Southern UK were mothballed by the Cold War. Only Northolt, Odiham, Manston and Biggin Hill (and these last two aren't in the detailed area) would have been active operational fields within the map boundaries in the 80's (which I assume is the period you're looking to?). I imagine a similar situation for the French airfields. Again, seems a pointless effort. Keep pushing for Fulda proper I say.2 points

It's in the works. I was hoping to include the AI for the new F-4, so I won't have to do it twice. I'll have a look at the Tacview, but, Mig-21's are very smart at avoiding AIM-7's now. That throws the whole thing out of balance.2 points

This is really strange but I think I've been released from Grounded and able to fly again. DCS starts up and I'll continue evaluating WTF happened. To summarize for any ideas-suggestions: DCS would not load, only the initial splash screen appeared followed by error msg displayed in above post. Win10 (32GB) machine running Task Manager entries with DCS @ 22% RAM Mem (184.xx) after 10 minutes. Going nowhere. Renamed SavedGames/DCS.Openbeta - no joy, new DCS.log showed only 21 entries, no longer displays error msg Perform a repair with "dcs_updater repair" as suggested - no joy, same shyte. Removed AVG antivirus completely from machine, reboot - no joy, same shyte...beer #1 Perform a FULL, SLOW repair with "dcs_updater repair" - no joy, same shyte. Stumbled on 2020 forum post from BIGNEWY regarding Enable Full debug log with your autoexec.cfg, thought that might be revealing Renamed SavedGames/DCS.Openbeta for 3rd time......followed post instructions and ....bing, bang, boom....DCS requested Login creds and came back to life !!!!! HUH??? Beer #2 !! Returned my original SavedGames/DCS.Openbeta and added autoexec.cfg to proper subdir...DCS is ALIVE and DCS.log is now 1,625 lines. This is obviously not a FIX, I will fly tonight to see whether all is normal. I would love to hear any remote reason that merely running the 'autoexec' in SavedGames/DCS.Openbeta/Config could possibly resolve an issue; it is 1 line (log.set_output("dcs", "", log.ALL, log.FULL)) There is a god....and beer #3...........2 points

Can Devs please have another look at the topic? Another example why it is useful to uncouple the mouse cursor from the head movement is when for example entering something on the ICP in the F16 and look in the HUD or DED to see how the entry affects a change in number or setting. Being used to the behavior from other VR capable simulators, that have this approach implemented, I instinctively look in the area where I expect something to change, but then the click goes into nowhere because the mouse cursor was moved that way.2 points

Can you please show us the way? I also tried M939 and Bedford trucks and there were no radio commands or F10 map option to embark when I was near my infantry. There's also no key bind to do that.2 points

If you hover the mouse cursor over a clickable control, it will show you what the keybind is called in the controls menu. The MAP toggle is controlled by an On-screen-button on the Left MFCD, so it can perform different things depending on the page you are in. The generic names for these buttons are OSB-1 to OSB-20, separate for each screen. Go to Adjust Controls > A 10C II > Select Left MFCD in the drop down menu on top left That will show you all the related controls there. Same for UFC. You want UFC Steerpoint Up or something like that2 points

no need to redownload everything unless you are formatting and then installing Win11. essentially you need to copy all the ED folders and run a repair. also make sure the shortcuts have the correct path. if you are just upgrading, it should be ok. also very important is to make a copy of your Saved Games. you can migrate all your controls with those files. have a look at this video. not migrating Windows but this will give you some tips.2 points

Mission editor screen: Move the map using the Left Mouse Button. Regular play in DCS uses the Left Mouse Button. Let's make it the same for the ME.2 points

I've come to enjoy using the Mission Editor almost as much as I have flying planes. Being a Cold War guy, the lack of alternate aircraft to the modernized E-2/E-3/A-50 is a bit of a bummer. Especially with the phabulous Phantom rapidly approaching. So, my humble request is for these two beauties to be implemented: EC-121 Warning Star Tu-126 Ideally these would have appropriately reduced capabilities from the more modern AWACS that we currently have modelled. I realize that the Tu-126 was a very limited platform with poor look-down capability over land compared to the EC-121. Soviet-era RedFor problems.... Worst case scenario, I'd happily take these as skins/alternate models for the E-2D, and handwave the superior capabilities as being really, really good controllers on board bouncing the radar off of some conveniently placed swamp gas. Thanks!2 points
