  4. So mine arrived and… well I guess I won’t be sending it back to Meta much to my wife’s disgust. Having used the Reverb (original and G2), Rift S, Quest 2 and Pico 4 gives a bit of perspective on this. I never really liked the Quest 2 in DCS, was not sharp enough compared to the Reverb G2. The Reverb G2 is very sharp in that narrow sweet spot but outside that is quite blurry such that you can’t really glance down to read an MFD or instrument you had to move your head. The Pico 4 resolved that issue by being somewhat sharp edge to edge, with a really nice FoV, however even with godlike setting in virtual desktop a few things are apparent vs the Reverb G2. Firstly it is a bit soft across the whole image. Like watching something upscale rather than native resolution. The colours are lacking in dynamic range. Looking in the direction of the sun things get washed out heavily. It’s like watching TV on a cheap 4K panel. Then the Quest Pro. Vs the Reverb it is not quite as sharp dead centre, but it is almost as sharp across the whole FoV which is better than the Reverb G2 and similar to the Pico 4. The sharpness is really apparent in things like MFD’s where every letter is readable in much the same way as looking dead on to it in the G2, just it can be that with a glance. Meta also know what they are doing with motion reproduction which cannot be said for WMR headsets, and it is better than in the Pico 4. The thing that stands out above all are the colours. It is night and day compared to the Pico 4, like looking at a good quality TV in comparison. I also kind of like the open bottom. I can look down onto my HOTAS and MFD buttons to see what I am pressing, and as I have them in positions that are pretty good for the F-18 cockpit it is kind of an AR experience. So right now I’d say the Quest Pro is the best headset I own for DCS. The Reverb G2 is being packed away, and the Pico 4 well it might make a good backup headset. Could the Varjo Aero or Pimax Crystal be better? Absolutely, am I going to spend $3000 AUD to find out? Not if I plan to stay married. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Hi CH, I love your mods. I wondered if a mobile version of the Skynex air defense system could be developed for DCS. I was thinking of a 6x6 MAN military truck with a 35mm Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 mounted at the back of the truck chassis. Is it feasible?

  7. The plan was that the initial release version (non-DMAS) would be smokier, and the DMAS version would be the version after the upgrade, so the less smoky. OFC, everything is subject to change™

  8. A guided demo of a product is *completely* different to a release to the masses. Many times I would have to instruct those demoing my early software on what to do and what not to do so the product looked more complete or worked better than it it would in general use. No company holds back stuff to annoy their customers.

Those could be used with JF, J-8II and other aircrafts. (A gyrocopter is modelled but will not be added to CAP at present, for that its flight characteristic cannot be correctly manifested in DCS now.) (unrelated) (There is no imperious demand in CAP and no specific short-term plan now. SAM being considered now but possibly not as parts of CAP.) (unrelated) J-8IIPP is being modelled now. Most parts of the cockpit are completed. Exterior model is being frozen now. The model will only be demonstrated when completed and polished so stay patient for now. 3D scanning will be applied to make the pilot and equipment model. Body shape of one or another developer, instead of a plastic model, will become the one you control in game.

  13. It's not really how software development or game development works. ED will have been given builds from very early on and placed within the games code to deal with regressed issues affecting the wider game as a whole. They'll be testing each build as it's delivered. I would assume that Razbam is working to set milestones which match up with EDs development and integration of the Strike Eagle, signing off features as they are delivered. It's entirely possible there's Strike Eagle related code version of the Open Beta going back some time as it makes it easier to diagnose and test. Depends on how they do things - only ED will be able to tell you. ED is holding off release for a number of reasons only known to them but it's probably just fixing issues or it could be they have a release schedule they want to stick too and the next big feature is the next item that's actually ready which could be Sinai or the F4E. Only ED will know. As for demos - ED can just skip over features that don't work or are not properly functional. It could have been the Strike Eagle model using the flight mode of the C. Marketing events for games is smoke and mirrors.

Great news... after quite a few months of back and forth negotiations, I have been successful in closing out a deal to acquire ex-RAAF CAC CA27 Mk32 Sabre for conversion into the MVP Sabre Sim Pit! For a while there I thought there was no possible way to get the deal done, but things came together in the end. At this stage, the plan will be to move the airframe back to our workshop facilities at YSBK Bankstown Airport in NSW, where we can get stuck into cleaning the airframe out of the accumulated debris etc. Just moving the airframe is going to be a solid effort, as the property the airframe is located on is very much in the middle of the bush. The sheer weight of the airframe means we will be needing a serious crane/lift to get it up onto a truck/trailer. Then I have to work out what I am going to do with all the additional airframe components that are of no use to the sim pit build. Either way.... what an adventure.

  15. Sebastian from MRTV didn't get a muzzle from Pimax. A few days ago he received the final sales version of the Pimax Crystal (like the "FlightSimGuy" and "Fin does Sims"). Everyone who owns the final version, that I've seen, has reported that the installation and software was absolutely problem-free. There were problems with pre-series models and beta models. These have been fixed in the final version! So you have to take a very close look at which version the respective Youtuber has, before you make a judgment. I've been following the development of the Pimax Crystal for many months and it's obvious that the Crystal is getting better and better...

  16. The problem with AAA systems in game right now, is that you can't model proximity fuze projectiles, so there is no way to model the AHEAD type rounds for the 35mm cannons. You can try to simulate it by having it fire an extremely accurate cannon with little to no dispersion.

  17. именно так! эта возможность (наводить изначальные радиокомандные ракеты по лазерной "трубке") была еще лет 6 назад. Это достигается установкой на ракету специального блока, который "чувствует" лазерное излучение и потому позволяет их применять с другим комплексом. а что это меняет для Ми-24П ? я не понял. ПС. и смею заметить: дух Ваших постов - это непрекращающаяся претензия к разработчикам, которые "делают всё на коленке".. "имбово".., "плевать хотели на просьбы и молитвы пользователей"... )) утрирую конечно, но "посыл" содержательный именно такой чувствуется)) с таким ментальным посылом Вы всегда будете видеть, что весь мир плохой (и разработчики DCS: Ми-24П в том числе, как часть этого Мира!)))

  21. Playing since LOMAC and ONLY two major things bothered me always: 1. Optimization - fixed with MT 2. Spotting I play in waves(playing for some time, than a break), and every single wave was the same: "Playing on MP servers on native resolution, understand that can't see <profanity>, lowering it to 1080p, understand that game looks like <profanity>, uninstall and then install again when new major patch or plane is out", and this is from someone who amassed more than 3k hours of game time. So glad OP made this mod and this thread and I'm utterly disappointed with ED attitude, luckily I understand Russian language and read some stuff from that topic "Ask developers"... oh boy, its not even unprofessional, some of those post are literally disgusting. THERE IS CLEARLY a problem with spotting, poll is saying that, people are saying that, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT. Thank you Why485 for this mod, but gratitude is much more on the fact that you raised awareness to ED team and hopefully they will do something about it. P.S. It feels like cheating every time I play at 1080p vs higher resolution guys....

  22. The first step was letting the team know there is currently an issue that can be used to basically cheat right now, in that the IC doesn't catch these changes. The next step is to look at what these changes do beyond what we offer and see how to best offer them, while I appreciate the OP's work on the mod, and for bringing it to light, the better result is having it in the base game in some form.

I love to fly helicopters in DCS and have set up my sim pit for flying the Blackshark and Apache, but realized I was neglecting a lot of planes with this passion, my Winwing F16EX was setup with a clutched system without springs as this suites most helicopters in DCS, how ever this wasn't ideal for planes at all I picked up a second Winwing F16EX when they were on sale last month and have set it up for planes, trouble next was swapping them out as it took a while unbolting the joystick from the sim-rig base, as DCS support hot swapping of joysticks in game I wanted a easier system. I found a company online called QR Mounts that make quick release 3D printed plates for most joystick/racing wheels and ordered the parts needed, they turned up yesterday and I installed them this morning, this gear is nice and has made swapping joysticks a 30 second operation in DCS. https://qr4rigs.com/ Here are some pics so you can see the QR Mounts in operation (edited)

  25. I would like to know if the development team is working further to improve the explosion VFX and ground damage of bombs. The graphic effect present is not bad, but I think it is a bit standard for all the devices available. The damage and smoke that an MK-82 causes is different than an MK-83 or a GBU-10.   27. Taxi from ramp to holding point in master mode BER. Once on the holding point, or even better once aligned on the runway: switch to NAV and check runway heading with NAV system (BANA GRÄNS). You then have two minutes to throttle up and become airborne, otherwise the bay becomes too hot. I don't know if its modeled in DCS, but that seems how the real Viggen behaved obviously.

  29. Hi, no, You can only speed up or slow down. The replay tool was design more for debug, and it worked well in the early days, but DCS has evolved a lot in that time. We want to improve the replay system and add more features, but this is for the future as our team are very busy currently. thank you

  32. Ah. Then it's more likely that you over-boosted the engine and this resulted in detonation. This could have caused the damage to the spark plus (ignition elements). Remember if you open the throttle too wide at lower RPMs that it will result in detonation AKA knock. At 1,800 RPM you shouldn't be above +2.75lb boost. At 2,000 RPM you shouldn't be above +4.5lb boost. At 2,400 RPM you shouldn't be above +6lb boost. At 2,650 RPM you shouldn't be above +7lb boost. At 2,850 RPM you shouldn't be above +12lb boost. Anytime you go above +12lb boost you have to be at 3,000 RPM Apparently, according to NineLine, it is.

  36. мы проверяли и неоднократно. И не по данным википедии. Для модели ракеты 9М120 данные (скорости и дальности) вполне соответствуют ТТХ реальной 9М120. По нашим данным двигательная установка в 120й ровно такая же как и в 114. А т.к. масса 120й больше, то получаем сравнение 114&120 с такими показателями: 1) 114 разгоняется быстрей и до большей скорости; 2) однако 120 летит чутка дальше (из-за большей массы при практически одинаковом значении Cx ускорение торможения после окончания работы двигательной установки у 120й оказывается ниже, чем у 114й. Т.о. имеем два влияния: одно ухудшает разгон и уменьшает максимальную скорость, а другое - уменьшает темп падения той самой скорости. Второе влияние оказывается немного бОльшим). Тем не мнее, в этих ракетах есть еще что улучшить. И это будет сделано (ожидается уточнение ТТХ работы двигателей и рулей). После исправлений (дату которых пока назвать нет возможности) энергобаллистические характеристики немного поменяются. На вики не ссылайтесь плиз)) а про эффективность (сравнительную) 114 и 120, где 120 хуже, сделайте треки плиз, буду благодарен! условия: стрелять под одному типу цели с одинаковой дальности, стремиться попадать в одно место; выполнить 10пусков (а лучше больше) 114й ракеты и столько же 120й если есть возможность, то провести это исследование для 3-6 типов целей (например для танков (2-3 типа) , для БМП (2-3 типа) ну или Вашим решением. На все полеты сделать треки.

  37. for MS Sidewinder FFB 2 users (and G940 users as well), the SimFFB utilility does the same. https://github.com/joeyjojojunior/simFFB compile for your system. just unassign the trim function in DCS and see the configuration below. You can use the hat switch to trim both your X/Y axis. I check with the controller itself and it works. didn't try in game though... I guess G940 users should uncheck "Swap Axis" null

  38. Fixed the issue internally. Should be in an upcoming patch With the fix, you can release at the promised 7km (100m, .9 mach) and the symbology will also suggest that accordingly. Also fixed that issue internally. BK-90 Symbology is not shown above 500m anymore.

  40. @havebugagain, big thank you for pointing me to this solution!!! It freaking works!! For anyone with RHINO the solution to the curves vs. trim issues = this is the way to do it. 1) enable ForceTrim feature in VPforce 2) enable "Override Trim" as well, this will over-ride the SpringCenter position that DCS generates. If you leave it off the Trim won't work. 3) set the "Slew Rate" = ~20 or higher for faster trim, albeit less precise. 4) assign buttons to Top/Bottom (pitch) and Left/Right (roll) 5) On Mossie i run a Y saturation (instead of curves) to flatten out the response curve, and it works wonderfully. On P47 I run a curve of 40+ to get a nicely balanced pitch response. Couple of gotcha's: - the spring center moves forward about ~35% of the Y throw (i.e. from the center position), i.e. the stick center will move away from you, having an S type of stick extension will help to offset it (I use VirPil S extension, 20cm). The overall move of the center forward 30% doesn't affect the operation of Mossie one bit, since it has a pretty wide Y band that goes way outside of Mossie's practical limits. - in Mossie, if you use the Rhino's trim (i.e. the above force-trim feature) for Y axis only (pitch), and continue to use in-game Aileron trim (X axis), then anytime you move the X trim it will reset the Y center back to the original place causing Mossie to violently pitch up (and requires re-trimming again). Because of it, I recommend you use both Y and X Rhino force-trimmers and avoid using in-game x/y trimmers. (Interestingly enough, it's an issue with Mossie only. I've tried a similar setup with P47 and trimming roll axis (x) doesn't reset Pitch axis (Y) at all, go figure . Edit: Actually, P47 has the same issue, never mind. Gotta use both x/y hw trimmers in these models.)

  47. I cannot rely on SP in any sense now. It seems for me to just constantly point to the current steerpoint like cursor zero does. Trying to align Mavericks and use SP to find a boresight target is useless, I have to slew alllll the way over to center now. Extremely inconvenient since before it worked fine.
