I feel like destroyed vehicles should catch fire and burn for a lot longer. Understand that it's probably for performance reasons, but being able to easily spot where stuff's going down is useful, and also good for immersion. Thoughts?6 points

VIVID NORMANDY 2.0 by Barthek Hello, I am happy to present to you the newest mod from the "VIVID" series - VIVID NORMANDY 2.0. It has been in development since the release of the map. I spent many hours trying to find the best solution to make the textures look more authentic and diversified. I am aware that this iteration is not perfect and most likely contains some bugs here and there but hopefully, it will give Normandy and the UK a fresh new look. Beaware that this is just a summer set of textures - other seasons will come along a bit later. I need some extra time to fly a couple of WW2 missions to test the textures in action. I will surely make some changes to this version in the near future, so expect some patches in the upcoming days. Until then - I am leaving you with some screenshots and, of course, the download link. And I am looking forward to reading some feedback! Have fun, Barthek DOWNLOAD LINK: HERE INSTALLATION GUIDE 1. If you're using any Normandy terrain mods, please deactivate them to avoid potential complications. 2. Download the MOD in JSGME-ready format using the download link. 3. Unzip the content of this package to your JSGME mods folder within your DCS main folder. 4. Activate the mod in JSGME. VIVID NORMANDY 2.0 DRY SUMMER by Barthek The DRY SUMMER version differs significantly from the normal one. To ensure better blending between close and distant textures, I had to take the so-called "clipmaps" into account. Those files are quite heavy (about 9 GB), so I didn't include them in the MOD. You will have to edit them on your own which means the installation process will be slightly different this time. Follow the instructions carefully and you won't get lost! I hope this new version will meet your expectations! As always, I am looking forward to reading some feedback! Barthek DOWNLOAD LINK: HERE INSTALLATION GUIDE 1. If you're using any Normandy terrain mods (even mine), please deactivate them to avoid potential complications. EDITING CLIPMAPS: 2. Navigate to "DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Normandy\clipmaps\ and make a backup copy of the "colortexture" folder. You can add "_backup" to its name. 3. Open the original "colortexture" folder, you will see the following: 4. Copy the content from "1m(spring)" and paste inside the "1m" folder. Overwrite all files when asked to. 5. Repeat step 4 for "4m", "16m" and "64m" folders (copy the content of their "spring" equivalents and paste it inside them respectively). 6. Download the MOD in JSGME-ready format using the download link: HERE 7. Unzip the content of this package to your JSGME mods folder within your DCS main folder. 8. Activate the mod in JSGME. HAVE FUN! LEGACY VERSION GTM:NORMANDY: DOWNLOAD LINK: HERE INSTALLATION GUIDE 1. If you're using any Normandy terrain mods, please deactivate them to avoid potential complications. 2. Thank you all for your opinions on this, it is greatly appreciated. I think its something to consider for sure, the costs associated with model creation at the levels expected by today's flight sim customers are huge, but this also gives people the ability to support the content they are interested in. It's certainly something to have a discussion about, so keep it up. We are watching and listening! PS, be kind to each other, at the end of the day we all want the same thing, the very best Combat Flight simulator possible.4 points

Can't wait for Mudhen to be released, if only because this endless hype campaign will hopefully end... Bring on the Phantom already!4 points

Hi, it's basically fixed and will be available with the next update. We have encountered some excessive corrections in the wake of big aircrafts which we are working on correcting but all the oscillatory problems (both this runaway issue and the previous vibrations) have been solved.4 points

Real war is all about improvisation, reacting to the enemy strategy, and changing your own approach faster and more effectively than the opponent. "Cheating" is a game term, a concept of fairness that doesnt exist in war. The only time you ever do things "by the book" is if theres no alternative, or if you are in such a superior position, that doing things by the book is guaranteed to be succesfull anyway. The more serious a fight is, the more you get willing to throw over previous rules. Thats why eg Desert Storm saw less improvisation, compared to Vietnam, which basically just rewrote "the book". Arguably the USAF even took some wrong lessions in Vietnam, because while their upgrades to F-4Es & co were meaningful, they were not nearly as effective as the Navys focus on "just" better training. To some degree that even happens in DCS PvP: Phoenix come out, they are super powerful, till people start notching and learn how to defend when F-14s are around. In return, the F-14 pilots develope strategies how to use Phoenix' against opponents with those strategies. Or they just abuse the fact that they can force opponents to defend. Even if the Phoenix is easily defeated, its an opportunity cost to do so. As to how you wanna fly the plane, follow specific eras or situations rules... thats then more of a RP-thing, where you and others put limitations on themselves to create a certain kind of scenario. And ofc the AI has the issue that it doesnt know how to adapt to strategy. Thats why Im almost skeptical by principle when people talk like combat in DCS is only realistic if youre doing 100% by the book. Its more like, the issue is that we only got the book for how to use planes. And we dont even have the full book, because the miltary keeps everything beyond the basics secret. So its very difficult to actually create "realistic" scenarios. Thats not a dealbreaker, but I wish a lot of people were more conscious about that.4 points

Haha, too many choices! You only need one of the three radars in a battery, they are all STR (search and track radars). The original AN/MPQ-65 only covers 120 degrees. The improved AN/MPQ-65A covers 360 degrees, but with a limited range and simultaneous targets. The new LTAMDS covers 360 degrees with longer range and more simultaneous targets.4 points

The radar overhaul will include a revision of the tracking capabilities and the noise in the whole envelope. Expect it to, in general, work worse than a PD radar. Nevertheless, our SMEs' feedback is that the noise levels should be lower than they are now in many instances. Take into consideration that selected mode, antenna position above ground and gain settings will be affecting the amount of clutter. Regarding the 3D model: we continuously work on improving the accuracy of both the model and the textures. Any report that helps us in this task is, of course, very welcomed.4 points

I play SP, own all the packs, and this is still a problem. If you want to share missions at you need to take into account if it uses packs or not, and the more packs there are, the worse this gets. I've already had to clone missions because of the existence of packs: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3308427/ https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3315425/ Now in this particular case, it's not that much trouble because DCS only has a limited number of packs (currently) and the SC pack was changed to be more user friendly, but the I think the problem is made clear. If we had many packs and they locked users out of missions, I as a mission maker would face a lot of wasted time planning my missions around packs instead of content.3 points

The total estimated cost is $8.5 billion. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally which is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe. The proposed sale will improve Germany’s heavy lift capability. Germany intends to use this enhanced capability to strengthen its homeland defense and deter regional threats. Germany will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor will be Boeing Helicopter Company, Philadelphia, PA. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale. Implementation of this proposed sale will require the temporary deployment of an estimated thirty (30) contractor representatives to Germany’s Main Operating Bases (MOBs) for onsite aircraft technical, maintenance, and logistics support as part of a Performance Based Logistics (PBL) program; training support; and operator and maintenance support for the Transportable Flight Proficiency Simulators (TFPS). This support will be provided for three to five years. The temporary deployment of contractor representatives will include five (5) Field Service Representatives (FSRs), four (4) from Boeing and one (1) from Rockwell Collins. Videos are fine but I would put way more stock in normal everyday users feedback rather than these popular YouTubers.... especially when talking Pimax. I have not seen any of those yet...3 points

correct, for the amount or work required to do it justice, not just visual effect, but damage to terrain and the fall out, the cost would be huge in terms of development, and for something that is only occasionally used in DCS I dont think it is worth it. We have more important tasks to complete.3 points

Wow, Barhek, this is outstanding! This is exactly what we’ve been asking Ugra media for and how this map should have looked all along! Those of us who live in the British or French countryside only have to look out our window to know there was something horribly wrong with the Normandy Map color pallet as it was. Not only does the map feel how it should, adding to the immersion, but the amazing work and details Urgra Media put into this map really pop and stand out. Thank you2 points

Well, since you say it's an iMav it probably means that the target is not an official manufacturer's product and consequently incompatible with it.2 points

I’m no expert, not by a long way so just my opinion as someone that has the P47. I started on the Spit. Had to, however difficult it is to start on. I love it, along with the Mossie. Once I could start and sort of fly those I got the Mustang and the Jug. I found the Mustang a lot more forgiving than the Spit in a lot of ways. On the ground as well as in the air. Another legendary fighter you have to have. Easy to convert to from the Spit. I wasn’t as keen on the Jug, more curious. I had (and still do) a fair bit of trouble with it on the ground when it’s fully laden and take-offs can either go fairly easily or extremely badly. Get one. I’m definitely converted. As mentioned earlier, it’s great for multi-role stuff. It feels and flies heavier than the Spit and 51 but is great to fly about, hits hard (if your target spotting’s better than mine) and is as tough as old boots. Coloured smokes too if you’re feeling a display flight coming on. Get one, and the Mustang, treat yourself haha.2 points

Indeed PD-STT shot fly straight while TWS-A lofts, but that is because Tu-95 starts jamming immediately after locking. If you set him to no reaction to threats, the missile lofts in PD-STT too.2 points

Yes this is necessary, one very obvious use case is recreating Cold War intercepts. And we know this already works in DCS, but requires some trickery to intentionally build into a mission. In general we need to reduce restrictions on tasks and AI options.2 points

The latest changes above didn't make the coming patch, which is next Weds I believe. A majority of the gear improvements (reduced power to taxi, etc) should arrive on Weds, but the nose won't bounce as much until the subsequent update.2 points

We've gone from "imminent" to "getting close" to "very soon" this thing it's getting ridiculous very ridiculous2 points

@SharpeXB Except you're proposing not one addon but many. And considering how some systems were used over the decades it wouldn't be unreasonable for one mission to require multiple of those asset packs, take for instance Yom Kippur where tons of WW2 stuff was used along with more modern systems. And it doesn't matter if an asset pack is 5$, 15$ or 50$, what matters is it requires additional purchase and without it people aren't able to join. But then again you're clearly smarter than all those analysts working for multi-billion dollar corporations2 points

I didn't realize Game Avionics Mode was removed. I understand some people will not like that, but I belong to those who always considered it a nuisance. I see that the related "Easy" command bindings are gone as well, and that's really good news in my opinion because they caused confusion. Yes, learning DCS world is a big task and can seem overwhelming for beginners. But you don't need to understand everything immediately. Go step by step, with one aircraft, exercise the things you understand and make sure you have some fun. I'm flying in DCS World (starting with Lock On) since many years and I cannot pretend I know everything about it. So I'm still learning new things and that's wonderful. And I use the forum when I'm stuck with something. The forum is very helpful.2 points

Correct, AFAIK it's planned to model the L with APX 334 Athos gyrostabilized binoculars (2x levels of magnification and no laser range finder) i.e. the L cockpit will lose the Viviane "TV". The "binocular" view may be "similar" to this Ferranti ? sight from Episode 6 of "Flying Soldiers" (a 1997 UK documentary). https://youtu.be/X-ap3xTgJjk?t=923 AFAIK work on the L's Athos sight is still at an early stage and subject to change.2 points

Totally agree. For what i found, vehicles easily burn an hour if not extinguished. Having smoke plumes so quickly disappear messes with situational awareness and is unrealistic. Have not observed any meaningful performance hit with smoke, so i do not see an issue with having things burn for an hour give or take.2 points

Selected options are stored on files (like graphics options stored on options.lua), updater just has to check that file a do what is set on it, thats exactly how actual module manager works. Making the default option not download adittional liveries would fix the problem before the first run2 points

Flare nose up aerobrake touchdown in the F-14 is doable like the Iranians do on runway landing. For USN...only demo pilots seem to do it. Despite NATOPS saying not to...even USN pilots, especially demo pilots do it. In DCS it is possible if you land without cutting power to full idle and just modulate the throttle and pitch after rear wheels touch.2 points

@Drangoll if I'm not mistaken, the stick in that picture is the F1 M stick, which is different from the other variants. I'll pass the feedback to the texturers in any case. Nevertheless, the spirit of this thread is to present the items that will come in the future and answer questions about them. Particular bug reports (including textures/ 3D model) should be done in a different post using the usual procedure.2 points

Hey Guys! Hope all is well with you all. In preparation for the release of the upcoming Sinai Map which is to be released soon, I will be creating a good number of Commercial vessels to fill the Suez Canal while also creating a couple of secret projects for you all to enjoy as well. So right now my focus is on commercial vessels along with a couple of warships. I will probably release the Commercial Vessels as a Bundle. Stay Tuned! Thanks for your patience!2 points

Yep, when fixing the missing track animations I managed to remove the texture definition. The reason I don't recognize this immediately is that I have other assets running the same tracks, so the error only occurs if you run this asset alone. I need to add a checkpoint for this before my releases. T-90M MBT 1.1.1 released! Changelog Version 1.1.0 Fixed missing track textures (again!)2 points

Think of the stupidest button box you could make for DCS.... yup. I made it. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/tape-player-button-box-for-dcs-f-14-tomcat Hey Heatblur, if you're watching we need an axis for the tape deck volume. I had to use a rotary to control the volume and it's not very precise.2 points
