  6. That's beautiful Toan. Nice shots. I see the Liveries worked well. Hmm, sounds like we need some Medical personnel Models. So Sovremenny is up +2 over the Adams Class. As mentioned the deadline is Sunday, July 18th midnight. I will choose the winner on Monday, July, 17th. Either way, I will create both models but Soveremenny will be created first. Thanks, Sensei and RomanoDJr for your input.

  10. Pretty confusing. I'm sorry but I can't understand the message here. The purpose of a simulation is to reproduce a process or an event (or for me a historical event) as realistically as possible. Every factor contributing to high reality, such as protagonists, the spirit of that era, place and time etc. is crucial. As we begin to compromise these factors, we move more and more towards fantasy worlds or arcade games. DCS is committed to providing the most realistic flight simulation available on the market, as they themselves claim. That's why I, and I believe most DCS users, use this simulator. If realism hadn't mattered to me, I would have chosen an arcade simulator. My apologies for deviating from the main topic "1967 adaptation? "

  12. If you have wing or centerline external tanks installed set the switch to WING CTR. If those tanks are empty or you do not have them installed, set the switch to CONF TANK. This switch determines the priority of feeding from these sources and should be set to match the config of the jet. The fuel will still feed if the switch is positioned incorrectly (you set the switch to WING CTR with no external tanks installed) however there may be a cyclic process that depletes your internal fuel by a 1000 lbs or so before it kicks the Conformal tanks to feeding.

  13. Hey folks! The SE is out, the F-4 looms just beyond the horizon. The long watch is almost over… Possibly. For this reason, I wanted to get a bit more familiar with the Phantom II, and I started with taking a look at the cockpits. The DCS F-4E is not out yet, the old screenshots from Belsimtek are not great, so I have found an alternative, and put together a quick video. Moving the first steps with a new aeroplane is never easy, especially if the game does not match either. I have used MilViz's F-4 for FSX, and this seems to be a DVST Phantom, whereas I am looking forward to the later upgrades, to fit in the best period DCS can imo replicate (late 70s, early 80s). Nevertheless, the difference should not be huge, and this is a good means of familiarising with the cockpit. I am sure there are errors in the video, as I am brand new to the Phantom and I have spent only a dozen hours studying the documentation. So, if you have observations, please do share them, and I will put the corrections in the comments. Thanks! UPDATE 10/07/2023: GUNS & SLATS The F-4E featured two peculiar upgrades that separate it from the predecessors and its Navy brothers: the presence of an internal gun, and the nre wing supporting leading-edge slats. UPDATE 14/07/2023: AIR-TO-AIR WEAPONS EMPLOYMENT An overview of the basic avionics and instrumentation required to employ AIM-7 Sparrow, AIM-9 Sidewinder and the M61A1 20mm Vulcan. UPDATE 23/07/2023: RADAR BASICS & CONTROLS The details of the Radar Set Control Panel, and the purpose of the instruments here installed. UPDATE 03/08/2023: RADAR QUIRKS & FEATURES A discussion about some cool features of the radar and avionics, such as the nutating antenna pattern, or the Computer Automatic Acquisition mode. UPDATE 17/08/2023: AIR-TO-AIR INTERCEPTS - THEORY A two-parts refresher on the basic concepts useful to intercept and engage a target with the F-4E Phantom II. This first video covers the theory. UPDATE 29/08/2023: AIR-TO-AIR INTERCEPTS - PRACTICE The second part of the Air-to-Air Intercepts sees some practical examples using the F-14's DDD B-Scope in Pulse mode.

  14. A bit of history. I have been interested in the Falklands war since I was in my teens. My mother was mainly into painting ceramics but she also built scale model aircraft for shop windows and by doing that she got my older brothers free model kits from the shop owners. She was very good at it and that was in the 70s so it must of been a very rare thing at that time to see a woman in here 30's building very detailed models of C-130s, B-17's and all those other 1/48 kits from monogram. She hung many from the ceiling in my brothers rooms as well. Memories of my cousins and brothers backyard battles with firecrackers...burning plastic shermans and panzers all over the yard (such a waste) but it really did look like a battle as they lay burning or blown apart. This helped spark my aviation love affair. I too ended up building models, both aircraft and armor and then got deep to the history.I always had an interest in the Falklands and other less spoken about wars or conflicts that featured less famous aircraft (like the OV-10, Pucara, Wyvern, and Skyraider) Years ago I ended up building the old Tamiya FRS-1 and researched the historical planes so much that I made sure it was painted correctly and the air frame markings were accurate for a plane that was there. I went on to also build an S. Etendard (3-A-202) that was famous for its successful ship attack. So of course I was very happy to see DCS create this terrain. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So to the point of this thread, First off of course we have aircraft currently close to what was used in 1982 like the Mirage 2000 (its still not a mirage III) and Harrier, but these are modern and use modern avionics that did not exist in the early 80's. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Core modules or user mods we have to use currently, MB.339 The pucara mod is there but it has not been updated in a long time, its still very usable for this theater. The Gazelle core module is there already which the British used in this war We have a superb A-4 skyhawk mod complete with Argentine markings already which is being improved here and there. We also have the British carrier mods used in this conflict. The C-130 Hercules mod which hasn't been updated in a while but a fully functional aircraft Core module UH-1h for Argentina Bell twin huey mod for the core UH-1H, for Argentina Not sure but I am certain ground assets already exist for this war.....Argentine Amtracs, British Scimitars and Scorpions, Land rovers, Rapier Missle batteries and an assortment of bofors AA and others. This was mainly an Infantry war so that makes it easier. Maybe Combined Arms module is useful in this area of mechanics. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What the new map needs bad is, A dedicated core module of the British FRS 1 Sea Harrier or RAF GR.3 with the weapons and avionics from that period. (I guess the current harrier module could fill in until we had one) For the love of the god (you choice of deity)....a Super Etendard PLEASEEEEEE (I want to carry and use that exocet flying feet above the waves) This is a legendary aircraft. Mirage III's or IAI Dagger (Again I guess the Mirage 2000C with limited ordinance could fill in until a core module was created) Secondary priority, Canberra PR9/ MK.62 (both sides used Canberras, very long range) Seaking HAS 2 or HC.4? Ferrying royal marines, SAS and cargo or slung artillery pieces from ships would be fun. *My priority for badly wanted core modules though would be the Etendard and an Early harrier. Some would probably say a Skyhawk. but the fan made mod really is well made in that we have a well made flyable air frame with a great cockpit and working ordinance to fill that need for now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In closing, Anyone have any information on whats coming for South Atlantic map? Ive been digging but do not see many threads on it. Add your thoughts and links here if you wish. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For fun......... My 1/48 scale FRS-1 build in the conflicts scheme and markings, as seen below, despite having AIM-9's, as proven in Vietnam years before, it shows the importance of having guns in fighters. No matter how advanced that missiles become. (air frame history, 2 kills ) 21.05.82 3.12 pm. A-4Q Skyhawk of CANA 3 Esc also shot down near Swan Island in Falkland Sound Lt Marquez was killed. - Flt Lt Leeming RAF of 800 NAS using 30mm cannon XZ500/(1)30 21.05.82 3.30 pm. A-4Q Skyhawk of CANA 3 Esc damaged over Falkland Sound by small arms fire from HMS Ardent and again in same incident as above. 15. Man, speak for yourself. A lot of ppl in dcs are former mil pilots. So if they prefer to buy map with history, its not mean that they took part in war over Sinai. It`s mean they respect this era and want to touch it. Nothing more. If you ready to spend your money for arcade map, this is your right. But respect ppl who think another. Thnx.

  16. there seems to be an error in Frenchpack_ERC90.lua - line 161, two commas (in other files there is a matching statement with no spare comma). GT.visual.IR = { coeffs = {GT_t.IR_COEFFS_ENGINE_APC, GT_t.IR_COEFFS_WHEELS_Truck,, GT_t.IR_COEFFS_100mm, {0.0, 0.00}, {0.23, 0.23/1250}}} I think this should be: GT.visual.IR = { coeffs = {GT_t.IR_COEFFS_ENGINE_APC, GT_t.IR_COEFFS_WHEELS_Truck, GT_t.IR_COEFFS_100mm, {0.0, 0.00}, {0.23, 0.23/1250}}} This seems to be throwing an error in DCS.log. cheers and keep up the great work!

  17. To add to what Klar already stated, the switch position defines the auto-transfer sequence of what is considered external fuel. In wing/ctr, the ext tanks are primary and CFTs back that up. For CFT, the opposite occurs. The ‘backup’ is related to tank 1 fuel levels. In terms of DCS at the moment, its not implemented yet so it always goes ext wings first then CFTs, but its on the list for implementation.

  21. South Atlantic Development Report We are excited to share that DCS: South Atlantic is receiving significant enhancements. Our partners, Razbam, have been actively developing and supporting the map, and we will soon be launching a major update. This update will bring various improvements, including a major technology change for city blocks throughout the entire map. New points of interest (POIs) for cities, starting with Punta Arenas and Port Stanley have been added. Razbam are now using new city block models that are in line with the region's aesthetic. Additionally, they have made significant adjustments to tree distribution that aims to eliminate repetitive patterns across the map. The roads in all cities have undergone a major revamp, with new textures, models, and layouts. Rural areas have also received attention with the addition of new villages across the map. Furthermore, we have introduced a deep water port for Rio Grande, and completely reworked Port Stanley and Goose Green from the ground up. Bye Phant

  23. I'm well aware of the discrepancy between my DCS assets and the real life smoke and launch trajectories. But there is only so much I can do within the limits set by DCS. I can't make the smoke denser at launch. I can't make the nose thrust vectoring. The GMLRS launch acceleration is too high because I need the rocket to achieve a high altitude to create some sort of trajectory towards the target. It's all about compromise with the small amount of tools DCS provides in this matter. If ED made available new features/tools/documentation etc I would update my assets immediately.

  35. Not sure if this is on Block 50s but it is a thing on Vipers. Someone will have to fact-check which Blocks/software. IIRC the threat circles are saved as steerpoints (numbered in the 70s I think?), so with HSD as SOI we can TMS-up on the centerpoint of the threat circle to select that as current STPT, making for easer DEAD engagements.

  38. As said above, tested with pedals and keybinding, so with a key, both brakes are used with the same force. I overviewed the brake pedal pressure on the axis window, and in both case the pressure on the left and right brake were at the same level. I tested with gentle pressure on the pedals, same force shown at the axis. Just a precision, I just made a new test, F1 aligned on the runway, 20% fuel no loads or ammo, full flaps, full brakes, full AB, at 700°C, brake release, waiting for speed being at 150 kts, then idle and full brakes for the first test, another one with 50% brakes then full brakes, and another with keyboard pressing, 2 runs for each. As result, the F1 CE goes to the right every time but the F1 EE goes to the left, so each version goes on it's own side. Maybe there is a difference in the programming of each version, so the solution must be in the middle . Hope it helps you to find out what causing it. and the track, it's a single run of each . Calm weather condition of course. DCS F1 brake test.trk

  40. If we're going all drone, why not replace transport helos first? You get more payload space for your buck, and the job is ultimately simpler than fighting. I'd say, we'll sooner see transport aviation be handled by drones. Of course, transport helos do tend to remain in service longer, so manned designs will probably continue out of sheer inertia, especially for flying people around, but things like dropping supplies in combat zones or simply hauling cargo could be much cheaper and safer with an unmanned system. Yes, but they also have a lot of range and power. If every soldier has a drone, then jamming all UAV control signals over a large area would become a useful thing to do. There's simply no way a handheld control set can overpower a trailer-mounted jammer. It's all about how much power you can feed to a transmitter. Also note, the nature of recent warfare has been such that tactical drone jamming has not, so far, been a priority for foremost tech developers. They've been used against insurgents, who do not have capability to develop jammers, and against Russia, which has its collective head stuck too far up its collective backside to develop and deploy them. There are tactical-level devices for jamming IEDs that US developed for use in Iraq and Afghan. These could likely be adopted to jam remotely piloted UAVs. Iranians have already jammed and stole an RQ-170, too. They will likely make further advances in the field, as their most likely opponents like drones a lot, and they're themselves no slouch in the field, so they understand their importance. In fact, wave propagation physics make for a dim outlook for the drones in the electronic fight. To be useful, a combat drone will generally be closer to the target than to its control station. Radio signals attenuate with the square of the distance from the emitter, meaning that a jammer will always require less power to match the control signal strength. Jamming effectiveness is a much more complex thing than that, of course, but IMO, manned aircraft will always have a place simply because in a peer conflict, jamming will make UAVs unreliable. An F-35 will still be able to do its job without radar or communications, thanks to pilot's eyeballs and brain. It may even be able to maintain control of its "Loyal Wingman" drones as long as they stay close. A remotely piloted drone will, in such situation, have to abort and RTB, at best.

  43. Having the current flare dispensers without the fairing modeled would be nice, as the fairing is often removed to save maintenance time. However changing to separate tail dispenses is different. In 1984 Mi-24V/P models started being built with the flare dispensers we have in game, but the tail dispensers are only for models from before 1984 and were built with no flares. The Mi-24P we have in DCS is representative of the last production batch from 1987-89, after the engines had been switched from TV3-117V to TV3-117VMA in 1987, EVU compatibility added in 1984 around, the wing mounted gun camera removed around 1983-1985, and the fixed taxi light was added sometimes between 1984 and 1986. So there’s a few changes that would need to be made to represent one of the first Mi-24P batches from 1982-1984, including some of the weapons that it was only made compatible with during the Afghan war like S-8/13/24. While the changes might seem minor, they are definitely enough to put off ED from giving you the tail strap on flare dispensers added to the early Hinds

  44. Posting this as a WIP for now. It's pretty much finished and I want to start on an Israeli B-17. I need a break from this one but still have some refinements that I want to do. Serial number 42-38050 was a B-17G-25-DL, code: BN U, nicknamed "Thunderbird". The plane flew 112 combat missions with the 359th Bombardment Squadron of the 303rd Bombardment Group. She reputedly was crewed by 538 different airmen, none of whom suffered an injury aboard Thunderbird. Returned to the United States after the war, she was sent to Kingman Army Airfield, Arizona, where she was scrapped. This plane is the subject of a 25-by-75-foot (7.6 by 22.9 m) mural in the World War II Gallery of the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., entitled "Fortresses Under Fire", completed 1975–1976. The artist, Keith Ferris, depicted Thunderbird on her 70th mission at 11:45 a.m., August 15, 1944, over Trier, Germany, on her return to Molesworth following a mission to bomb Wiesbaden, and is historically accurate in the encounter portrayed.
