  3. Many thanks to Nathan from the MVP team who managed to source original new stock panels to help complete the external cockpit fuselage structure! Nathan was also able to source us a nose-wheel cap, which gets installed over the top of the nose-wheel axle nut. And.... incredibly! Nathan was able to locate three original undercarriage retraction status indicators, which are not easy to come by!

  4. I've been toying with various parameters for the past several months across these airframes, including lights. There's more to do, I just haven't gotten around to the tedium involved in fixing the remaining problems as I see them. Today I added thrust reversers to the aircraft that have them (these are not 3D animated, but they are nonetheless functional within the simulation environment). Particularly useful on older maps which have fairly short runways all things considered. I figured there's a cadre of folks outside of DCS Academy who like to keep up with my unofficial updates, so here they are. Please do not ask me for support installing these files -- I offer these to the broader DCS community to improve the community, not as an invitation for you to ask me for technical support. 6. Yes, its to prevent CG changes before the take-off. In flight, all external tanks are pressurized and can transfer fuel. On the ground, since external wing and centerline tanks are depressurized, no fuel will transfer from those tanks. However, the CFTs can transfer fuel on the ground since the CFT electric transfer pumps operate continuously. Fuel transfer sequence within the CFT is designed so the CG moves forward as the CFT transfers fuel, so it is best to prevent fuel transfer from the CFT until you are ready for take-off.

  12. The BFM/ACM campaigns are pretty bad at teaching anything so for that purpose I recommend you to not waste your time/money on them. They hail from another era of DCS and are rather sparse on content... It's maybe 20 voice lines all in total and the missions are literally copy paste with different enemies: (Fix the awfully unbalanced default configuration by adding a CAP-9M) Take off Fly the route to the combat zone, same thing every time Head on engagement with DCS AI. You get about 4-5 minutes of VUL time to score a kill, so you're honestly best off gunning them on a head-on pass at the earliest opportunity. Half the time they will just run into the virtual hard deck anyway which also ends the engagement Fly back a couple minutes to reset Repeat previous 2 steps Fly back home There's no training goals, no explanation, no debrief. Nothing beyond 1v1 engagements that will take you about 15 seconds to set up in the editor by yourself.

  16. Yep, this is most realistic. Setting radio and tuning to proper frequency is on you. The sim should not stop you from transmiting "request landing" to a tanker or "bogey dope" to some wrong frequency which no one listens to. We should just select the type and message although it can get complicated when callsigns are used on some shared frequency. The list has to stay for FC3 and easy comms option.

  18. Hi Would it be possible to have a aerial reco photo function include to DCS. For example: it would be interesting to make some reco flight to have some pictures from a zone to identify enemy vehicles, troops or other threats, to plan some bombing run or sead. Like the Mirage F1CR with it's integrated omera camera or reco pods .

  19. No worries! I always recommend starting by something as simple as a target orbiting or race-tracking, with your Tomcat in active pause. This allows you to observe how the avionics presents targets entering and leaving ZDF, MLC and presenting different TA.

  22. ^ Hear hear! I don't own a 4k screen, but do read with some interest what performance people are getting on higher demands side if the spectrum (VR or 4k) with their hardware. Reading that 90fps @4k criterion was an eyebrow rising experience. That's a an ambituous goal in DCS. It just doesn't belong in the same sentence together with "500$ card" and "future proof" I'm afraid, unless one reduces gfx settings considerably, or flies only over fps-friendly maps ie. Caucasus or Nevada. Granted, we all wait and hope for the "second coming of Jesus" in form of mythical Vulkan implementation in DCS, but nobody knows when it's going to happen and how much it'll really improve GPU performance. I'd say go for that 600-800$ stretch right away but with clear understanding that it will still require some gfx settings compromises to maintain that 90'ish fps level.

  23. The A2A birds (F-15C, Su-27, Su-33, and Mig-29A/C/G) all have dedicated commands to enable/disable NWS. The A2G birds (Su-25, Su-25T, A-10A) do not and it would be helpful, if they did. The A-10C and A-10CII do have the capability but they, of course, are FF modules.

  25. That one's tough dude. (And it's supposed to be. It's in the advanced section for a reason.) For a couple reasons. 1. The JF-17 is a peer-level opponent for the Viper. The SD-10 is very capable and like your 120s, has a soft lock and passive guidance capability. Just because there's a missile in the air doesn't mean your launch warning will go off like with a Fox-1 or older Fox 3s, because the missile is getting guidance from the aircraft. I talk about this in the 'Without AWACS' mission briefing. I just realized it's missing from the AWACs version, so I'll fix that. But it means that once your warning goes off, the missile is probably in terminal guidance and there is mere seconds to impact. 2. The JF in that mission has a jammer, so you have to burn through to get a good lock. It's nasty to go up against, just like yours is. I've attached a track here where I defeat him. (Took me two missiles, but that's not uncommon.) My jammer is never even on, so take a look. Watch how I keep him in my radar until the 'A' on the HUD switches to a 'T' and then I crank all the way over to defend. He never even fires at me. My advice is to run the 'Weapons' missions for the 120. The [RWS] STT & DTT as well as the TWS Mode missions. These are threat-free environments where you can just focus on getting the radar mechanics down without worrying about getting shot down or getting task saturated. Last thing, don't get frustrated. I made these missions to practice the things that I personally had failed dozens upon dozens of times. It's difficult. Keep at it. Good hunting. Jeff BVR.trk

  27. So...having considered the matter for a little while now, here's what I've come up with: The 4070 (at least right now) is going for ~$600 (and up) retail - before taxes. So it's already over your 'initial base' budget of $500, potentially by ~$150. Also, I have to say I have serious reservations about whether even a 4070 will maintain a 90+ frame rate at 4k in DCS. I'm not even sure you'd get 90FPS most of the time, never mind as a 'fluid' experience. Now, to be accurate, this is based on studying specs, as opposed real-world, first hand experience. I think it would be a great idea for you to seek out others here on the forum who actually have 4070s and run 4k - you'd probably want to title a new thread very specifically to get the appropriate responses. I regret that I cannot speak from that first hand experience. I do know, first hand, that a 3090 at 1440p will do 100+ FPS at altitude...but get on certain maps and down low near densely populated buildings etc...you're looking at ~70-80 FPS (and that's not at max settings, either). And a 4070 isn't as capable as a 3090. So you can see why I have real doubts about the 4070 doing what you expect. Maybe the 4070 price will come down as we approach the holidays - they usually do at least somewhat. So maybe it'll be closer to your budget. Unfortunately that won't change the performance aspect, and I'm afraid you'd want something more capable if you want 90 frames stable and smooth. And of course, that's going to increase cost. You might be looking at closer to the upper end of your range (500-800) rather than the lower end. Maybe finding something used would bring performance at a price you could live with. I don't wish to sound pessimistic, but the last thing I'd want to do is say I think it will work OK when I don't honestly think it will. If I'm being honest I think it's going to require that you go to the higher end of your budget, and/or reduce your expectation for performance - and most likely a bit of both. HTH...best of luck Look at the bright side, maybe I'm just plain wrong about it - like I said, ask around to see who's done it already

  31. I know that the pace is slow but I will cut them some slack for now on this, even though IIRC they still have a 'team' of 1 or 2 people working full time on it they are now at the end of the roadmap and up against the more complex items, mainly the DTC, a system which I don't think has any precedent in the game. At the same time I would find it hard to accept the Viper moving out of EA without a working PFLD, the associated failures and the ability to trigger those things on clients in MP. The fact that failures aren't even on the roadmap despite being a standard item is very concerning. The same can also be said for the ALE-50, a key component of the viper (especially our block 50). Moving it out of EA without the towed decoy would be like moving the F-14 out of EA without phoenixes. I am very worried that its absence from the EA feature list is evidence that they have no intention of giving it to us for many, many years.

  32. Agreed. An option to automate the process would be helpful. In the meantime, the saved Snap View is the best answer. Bring up WPN page Press Boresight Press IHADSS Hold down Snap View button Press BS NOW Release Snap View button Yes, it takes a few minutes to set it up the first time, but then you avoid the hassle for each cold start going forward.

  33. It looks like the problem comes from the wingtip launcher rails, and only them. They always get torn apart first, which causes wing structural damage, then wings eventually break if the stick is not released soon enough (or if the aircraft speed is too high). I don't think launcher rails should be torn off like that: they don't support the whole weight of the aircraft, that's the wings job. Issue reported. Wish me luck. 34. @Vakari Thank you for making this. It's very useful! @FlyingKah asked about MIDS: We did some testing just now in DCS Academy and MIDS works. Download the attached MIDS.txt file and place it in your root SRS install directory (e.g., C:\Program Files\DCS-SimpleRadio-Standalone) Use the attached SRS Helper: EAM Preset Manager preset which we used to test MIDS and JF-17 communication. In the associated MIDS EAM radio within SRS client, use the channel tab to select the appropriate MIDS channel. Profit. Please do not ask me for help with your particular setup. I am providing these files as a jumping-off point for interested parties, not as an invitation to provide you technical support. MIDS.txt MIDS Test.json

  35. Consider me to be "another player expressing the same need". I have flown behind the 430 IRL and would love to be able to use it in DCS, but having it float in front of my face is a dealbreaker. Ideally, i would like to be able to position it the same we we can reposition the framerate counter display. Super ideally, I would like to be able to slap it anywhere in the cockpit in 3 dimensions, but even just being able to slap it anywhere on the "menu plane" would be an improvement which takes this from "unusable" to "amazing"

  38. Wouldn't it be better if there was no sorting? And instead of going through a list of different aerdromes, tankers etc to talk to it just gives you a list of the things to say to them. To make it more clear: Right now we have things like wingman, elements, flight, ATC, AEW&C, tanker, FACs etc. When you open each category it gives you a list of all available ATCs, tankers etc, ranked by distance from player and then from there it gives you the items to say (call inbound, request picture, etc). Instead of doing that, omit the list of towers, tankers etc completely and go straight from the agency type (i.e ATC, tanker etc) to the appropriate list of messages for them (i.e call inbound, request picture etc) subtracting the step where each tower is listed etc. No it absolutely doesn't: The primary reason you need to select a frequency in the first place still exists in its totally. Selecting a particular frequency deconflicts communications. If it's going to show you items that you've tuned to, then doesn't that mean that any kind of sorting through each agency in a given category is redundant? In which case, you can have it work like the other sim, where there's no selection for different airbases/tankers etc, just a list of things to say sorted by the type of agency (i.e tower/ground/approach/departure, intraflight/flight elements/wingman, carrier, tactical (i.e AEW&C/GCI/FACs), tankers). This way who precisely you're talking to isn't exposed - if you have the frequency wrong you'd get no response (this is arguably the most realistic option, given below). How do you figure that? IRL I would have to be suffering a large brain fart to mispronounce Tblisi as Vaziani or Soganlug and yet that's fairly easy to do using the current system, especially as items change rank with distance. Not only that, but just because a particular aerdrome is closer, doesn't necessarily mean I want to talk to it. Likewise, it probably shouldn't tell you who you're talking to until you get a response (though this could absolutely be a difficulty option setting), so omitting the list of agencies of a particular type and going straight from ATC -> request inbound etc. Is probably better.

  39. In MSFS they make scenery addons to be implemented onto already existing terrain as a base. For DCS they have to build the terrain itself from scratch, 3D mesh included, using a new SDK for them to learn, for a totally different software platform. These two cases are not even comparable and their develoment pace for MSFS is irrelevant here. It's going to take longer to build product for DCS.

  43. But sometimes it´s best to keep these games in your rose-tinted memory. Otherwise it´s like watching the A-Team or Knight Rider as an adult It´s weird that someone would open such a topic as his/her first and only post here, but it´s an interesting topic. For me, a game that I miss would be "Tabula Rasa", an MMO from Richard Garriot (it was kind of a mix between World of Warcraft and Planetside). I really liked that game, it was innovative, I liked the world and the gameplay a lot. But it never had enough players to keep it going so they just shut off the servers after only about 1 year...
