I posted some F-4E documents dating from my time flying it. Enjoy. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3335473/ I highly recommend going throught the USAF TPS F-4 Guide before flying the Rhino. It will save you a lot of frustration. The rest of the document should give you a good feel for how the jet was operated back in the day. Vulture8 points

Similar to my other post about A-A Master Mode HOTAS (and radar modes details), this is a diagram for HOTAS mappings in the front cockpit for A-G Master Mode. I arranged the modes in how they are related by switch direction, so it's more of a map than just a table of state transitions like the manual provides. Inop modes are colored yellow. I haven't updated it since November 1st 2023 so there may be discrepancies with the current state of the module. Notably, smart weapons like JDAMs weren't in the module yet.6 points

Hi Dear friends and pilots. We are testing a new update and solving current optimization problems. As it turned out, doing more is quite problematic. But we can handle it. I'll share some new screenshots from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Cairo, Alexandria and Eliat. New airfields are already being tested. We'll be ready for an update soon. Not only will more new unique places and airfields be added, but bugs that were listed after Early Access. Early access gave us good experience, which will help us avoid many mistakes in the future. Thank you for your patience.6 points

26 January 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, In our ongoing commitment to provide a seamless and unified experience to all of you, we are moving away from the traditional Stable and Open Beta builds. Starting with the upcoming release, DCS will transition to a single, unified version. This move aims to streamline the update process, reduce fragmentation, and ensure that all pilots have access to the latest features and improvements simultaneously. This unified approach will not only simplify the user experience but also allow for more efficient development cycles, fostering a more cohesive and connected community. Your feedback has been invaluable in shaping this decision, and we are excited to embark on this new journey together. The AviaStorm team has been hard at work crafting the highly anticipated DCS: Tornado module. We are pleased to share a development report to keep you in the loop. The Tornado is undergoing meticulous attention to detail to ensure an immersive and quality module. We are delighted to spotlight the talented content creator Growling Sidewinder, whose dedication enriches the DCS experience for all of us. To show our appreciation, we're running a special promotion that offers exclusive discounts on selected modules. Check out his videos to learn more on Growling Sidewinder’s YouTube. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Unified Release A new era begins For the past several years, we have released DCS in two forms: the Open Beta, which includes the most recent changes to allow broad testing and the Stable version which is based on the most recent Open Beta and has no known crashes, thus the term Stable. In 2024, we will be moving to unified DCS updates. This change has been a common customer request and will streamline our release process. We believe that it will also help avoid version confusion for both single-player missions and multiplayer servers. Starting with our first update of the year in February, we will also be making the same changes to the DCS Steam Edition. Please stay tuned for more details. AviaStorm’s Tornado Development Progress Five 3D artists are currently working on the project, which involves significant personnel commitment. This investment will result in a module that meets your expectations. AviaStorm has had the opportunity to examine many small details of this aircraft for the level of detail that DCS demands. Such details may not initially stand out, or even be noticed by most customers, but they are crucial in the context of creating a masterpiece that is the Tornado. An example includes the emergency RAM air flap and two cooling flaps. “We are dedicated to achieving the level of quality we and Eagle Dynamics aspire to and what is expected from DCS customers.” – AviaStorm Growling Sidewinder Affiliate Program We are pleased to extend our warmest congratulations to Growling Sidewinder as he takes on the roles of affiliate and brand ambassador for DCS. His proven determination fuels our fires and we are incredibly thankful to have him on-board. Please check out the GS Discord and keep your eyes on the skies for some exclusive deals, only on Growling Sidewinder’s Youtube! As always, thank you again for your passion and continued support, Yours sincerely,4 points

Ah. Forgot those files were in there, but they're not actually used. Going to cleanup and re-org the audio folders as part of the sound re-work.4 points

Sounds like an interesting project, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleet_Rehabilitation_and_Modernization is a nice source for info on it. Currently I'm still struggling to find the time to re-work the bridge of the Maddox to a Vietnam era bridge. So a complete FRAM destroyer is currently not on the horizon. On donations, luckily my salary pays for my hobbies. So if you like the mod, feel free to donate to https://bluedragon.org instead, they support Vietnamese people and help to protect them from Human Trafficking, especially the kids. I made a diagram which shows all available transitions between radar modes in search and designated-target modes. I arranged the modes in how they are related by auto-aqc switch direction, so it's more of a map than just a table of state transitions like the manual provides. Inop modes are colored yellow. I also made a plot showing the azimuth-elevation profile of all radar modes. These should be accurate to the degree, with the exception of maybe the boresight mode where I had to interpret "4 degrees circle" as an azimuth/elevation rectangle. Source diagrams.net files are available upon request. Note: Plot azimuth scale is 2.5 degrees per grid cell, and elevation scale is 1 degree per grid cell. This skews the representation of angular area (solid angle) subtended by each of these modes. Supersearch (SS) and Boresight (BS) should be square in shape.2 points

Case I and III multiplayer ATC confuses the players, calling them all the same call sign and assigning them all the same position in the stack. In Case III only, other players must transmit 'Abort Inbound' before being able to call ATC, and then the replies are all to the incorrect player. When a player is in case III approach, some newly joined players cannot get the crew to respond to them to get a launch or get rearmed. Must leave the server and rejoin. Please priorities multiplayer carrier ops - it is impossible to coordinate a team with such confusion.2 points

"Cross the Line 1-4", one of the most beloved and challenging missions during my first steps in DCS. The mission was created by @CuteQA https://forum.dcs.world/topic/30503-cross-the-line-1-4. I don't know if he is still active in the DCS community, so I tried to revive his mission in order to run with the latest DCS versions. It's a pure medium - hard Helicopter Mission, initially flown with KA50. I faced some issues with the trees removal from the scenery in TORBA FARP location (in the past the area was not covered by trees) and I enriched the mission with random groups in order to make it interesting for those that they wish to play it more than one times. I attach a version with 2 x KA50III and 2 x AH-64. PS: a. Due to the fact that the mission is medium to hard and long lasting, for those that they wish to skip the EWR Site attack and the recapture of TORBA FARP, only for the 51 ALPHA group, there are relevant RADIO ITEMS in F10 menu to skip them. b. Don't forget to paste the SimpleSlotBlockGameGUI.lua in your C:/Users/<YOUR USERNAME>/DCS.openalpha/Scripts folder in order to enable slots activation in TORBA FARP after being captured by the RED forces. I attach a version with 2 x KA50III and 2 x AH-64. ATTENTION: After mission start, verify via F-10 map that trees have been removed in FARP TORBA area, otherwise restart DCS and most probably will be ok. Enjoy SimpleSlotBlockGameGUI.lua Cross the Line 1-4 (revived).miz2 points

I have no argument about the significance of the Wildcat and SBD, I absolutely agree, and the SBD is probably my favorite ”unlikely hero” of all time. Back on track, there was never an argument whether to keep the Wildcat or get Hellcats/Corsairs. The latter two on the other hand were contemporaries and direct competitors. I consider the F4U a strong contender to the title of best land-based fighter of WWII. It just seems like Vought built the best fighter they could - and then tried to force it to qualify for carriers. Grumman on the other hand built a masterpiece of design-for-purpose, a perfect balance of performance vs. requirements that included carriers operations at its core. Giving the Hellcat to the Navy and Corsair to the Marines was the best decision to get the best out of both - in the grand scheme of things.2 points
-
Let's face it, neither Hellcat or Corsair was needed. After Midway and even more importantly Guadalcanal. The Japanese Air arm was crippled. The Japanese pilots could bearly hold the their planes on course and almost none got carrier qualified after 1943. The US could have just continued to use the SBDs and Wildcat and little would have changed strategically. A billion Wildcat and SBDs with well trained crew would still beat superior Japanese planes with mostly not even competent pilots. Would the US suffer slightly more casualties. Mabye and that was would be a tragedy for each family that lost a son or father or brother. History however would mostly go unchanged. And the Wildcat did fly until the end of the war and continued to shoot down Japanese (and even German planes well into 1945) (Wildcat last victories in Europe was against 109Gs in March 45.)2 points

ED said it would take some time, but 5 months and still counting to answer a Q&A is kind of crazy...2 points

Reading through this and the thing that has me most excited is the new approach to training and Ground Chief. As with the Tomcat I think HB are raising the bar yet again! Can't wait to learn this module inside out! I was just wondering how much the recent Speed and Angels campaign has influenced the new training route? It sounds a total win!2 points

I agree with what @Abburo said. But I might also add that for example my Tor's have a more advanced configuration than the core game version. My version do actually have a separate SR and TR, unlike the core version. That's why my version have multiple missile channels.2 points

Faces! Faces everywhere! Heatblur really dialed it to 11 with this one. The whole approach, from the systems simulation to the open source approach of the interactive manual, is just brilliant. I really hope that it will all work out as intended! (I have no real doubt about it though!). In short:2 points

Wow I can't believe. People's perceived entitlement. I bought this module long ago and I would gladly have paid for it again. Great work team. It was a minute until I got back to where I was flying it before but Im very pleased with the work done to date. Dont rush please. Just keep on keeping on!2 points

I am a sysadmin and have been since 1989. During that time I was also a CAD manager. When systems are not unified, much time is wasted. Especially when users of all sorts are involved in beta testing. Many of the users have little to no concept of how to provide empirical information to assist with troubleshooting. It is not necessarily their fault. It's just an experience thing. I am glad DCS is changing their process. I commend all involved with making a surely difficult decision. I wish them well and success. There will always be supporters. I can be considered one of that group.2 points

Так и есть. Текущая ОБ более стабильна, чем текущая стабилка. Пользователи ОБ разницы не заметят. Пользователи Стабилки начнут получать обновления чаще и идти в ногу со временем.2 points

For me, having one less version is great for my hard drives For now you dont have to do anything apart from update, no matter the version you are on now you will get the latest one.2 points

There will always be bugs, the complexity of what we do can not be under estimated. We have a much better internal testing process now and the main thing is no known crashes into the public build. But we will still need to be flexible and use your feedback and reports to guide us. Hotfix can happen if required still. thanks2 points

This has been a problem for a while. It doesn't matter if the clients are in different groups, it doesn't matter if one client doesn't call in at all, the modexes, states, and positions always get swapped.2 points
