It was like this in the real aircraft (otherwise we would have simulated it in the old panel). Only a few aircraft got equipped with the new IFF panel and crypto unit before the modernisation to the F1M (all of which were equipped with Mode 4). We didn't want to force such a radical change of look in the aircraft cockpit considering that only very few of them actually had the Mode 4 capable IFF and towards the very end of their service life.5 points

Terrain scenery performance: optimized instancing and improved and optimized streaming. Whoever it was that worked on this please: Give this person or group a BONUS they earned every penny of it. The performance increase was amazing. Also let this person have at the other areas of the sim. To that person or group Well done!!!!4 points

Good catch! I've done some testing myself and it seems like some ships can't be detected until around 35-40 nm. So they're not invisible, only harder to see at longer range. I've tested both mods and in-game assets and the results are all over the place. I also noticed that if you add AWACS support to your side the AI will pick up the ships at normal ranges. I will continue to investigate. Edit: I found the issue.4 points

2/24/2024 - Update to version 7 - NEW cirrus cloud textures - Cirrus clouds now move and can be seen moving - Cirrus clouds don't fade in and out any longer. They don't change for 24 hours - Tuning and tweaks to several presets - Updated config files for compatibility with DCS 2.9.3.51704 **The cirrus cloud behavior and appearance are drastically changed in this update. There are 4 cirrus cloud textures and they usually are blended with each other, creating a variety of different looking skies. After loading a mission, if you want to change the look of the cirrus clouds simply re-load the mission by pressing SHIFT-R. Sometimes changing the date and/or time in the mission editor changes up the cirrus also. If you want to turn off cirrus clouds completely you can edit \Bazar\shaders\enlight\cirrus.fx in the MOD folder. Change line 36 in that file to: static const float cirrusThickness = 0; Make sure to disable/re-enable the mod in OVGME after making the change. If you think the new cirrus sucks and you want to go back to default delete the following files from the MOD folder and disable/re-enable in OVGME: \Bazar\shaders\enlight\cirrus.fx \Bazar\Effects\EffectTextures.zip Enjoy!3 points

Dear friends, I have created a TACAN approach chart for Kutaisi airport in Caucasus region. Chart created from scratch of DCS World v2.9.1.48335 and is not an adaptation of a real chart in order to have inaccuracies. It is under scale, that means it has extreme precision! Pay special attention to the date that you fly your mission, in order to be valid the bearings of the chart (years 2016-2024). E.g. If your mission has date 31 December 2015 (and for some years ago), then the Mag. Var. will be 6 deg. E and then the approach TACAN radial will be 071 (instead of 070 of the chart). Included also the ILS approach chart for Kutaisi and Kobuleti airports. A preview of it below: Download link: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3335610/ I hope to enjoy it. Feel free to post your questions and remarks. Nikos.3 points

Hi everyone, after many of you helped to successfully test "Angels of Caucasus" (a helicopter rescue sandbox), I took the "Caucasus" mission, and developed into a fully fledged, much more difficult rescue sandbox located in Syria. I'm close to release again (this one will also be free for everyone to download), and I'm hosting it on my server "cfrag's DML Testbed" (no password required to join). I'd like to extend my invitation to you to come, stress-test and comment on this mission before I release it. The Syria server mission was inspired (and takes a bow to) one of my favorite projects that sadly seems to have disappeared, the Rescue Servers. ANGELS OF THE LEVANT: SYRIA ==== HELICOPTER RESCUE ==== You are an "Angel", a member of the Levant's elite Air Rescue organization. Your task is to evacuate injured people from all over Haifa, Beirut, Adana and Nicosia, and deliver them to Hospitals in the area. Since the Angels operate in metropolitan areas, and accidents happen, there will always be more people requiring your assistance than you can provide - so bring a friend or two if you can: this mission is fully multiplayer capable, and keeps track of your accomplishments, even between mission restarts. There are multiple slots available (hot and cold) for Hueys, Hips, Gazelles and Hinds, allowing for up to 16 pilots simultaneously per city (more than 50 pilots total). [There are also slots for the Apache and Black Shark, but those helicopters can't perform SAR] You perform SARs by flying towards the evacuee (they all have locator devices for your ADF). Pearly Gates, your Command Authority can vector you towards your target. Once you get within 1km, help on the ground marks the spot with smoke, and you'll be guided by your chief for the last 100m. Land close enough to pick up the evacuee. If landing is not possible (too densely populated, roof-top rescues, open water, steep inclines or inaccessible ground or forest), you can winch-rescue by hovering within range and altitude for some 20 seconds. Once the evacuee is confirmed on board, you then transfer them to the closest Hospital for triage. Which hostpital you choose is your decision. All hospitals are marked with red smoke for easy identification, and Pearly Gates can vector you to the closest hospital on request. At all times please be mindful of other traffic, both fixed-wing, rotor wing, and - of course - other Angels. Be mindful when entering controlled airspace - although you have priority clearance, try to avoid those congested areas. Difficulty: The difficulty level of this mission is a marked step up from "Angels of Caucasus": metropolitan areas often require very precise control of your helicopter, and big helicopters like the Hip may not fit into the claustrophobic warrens where some of your evacuees wait for your help. Use winch-rescue procedures in those cases. That being said, this map offers multiple areas of operation with varying levels of difficulty: Haifa The classic. Mind the inclines. Two hospitals with stand-alone landing pads. Beirut A dense city, drop dead beautful, and full of evacuees waiting for your assistance. There is only one hospital here, and it requires roof-top landings. Adana A sprawling, beautiful city. Many evacuees to rescue, with a diverse mix of difficulty. Two hospitals: one with a stand-alone helicopter pad, the other with roof access only. Nicosia / Kyrenica Ah - Nicosia! The jewel of antiquity, and capitol of Cyprus! A split city on a split island. Since the Angels are one of a select group that both sides trust, the Nicosia Base serves both Kyrenica and Nicosia. Missions can require longer flights. There is one easily accessible field hospital at Nicosia, and another make-shift hospital at Kyrenica harbor. [Undisclosed City] This may come later. Other notes: - This mission is entirely non-violent, flying-skills only. - If run on a server, this mission auto-restarts every 8 hours. It's an endless SAR sandbox mission - This mission can persist all your accomplishments (landings, time, rescues) per airframe if you have persistence enabled (this requires that your DCS is 'de-sanitized'). - When run on a server, install 'stopGap GUI' on the server to allow static scenery occupy open player slots. - If you are a fan of the Blackhawk, you can add it to the mission and it is immediately supported. It's their first map, but they charged us for it, so we are allowed to voice our concerns. Here's what's going on - this map was released more than half a year ago, with many issues, as any other EA product. The difference is you usually see the third-party developer pushing to get hotfixes out the door and solve bugs incrementally. OnRe did not do that. Zero fixes. Zero updates. Some sort of weird fixation on a big update somewhere down the road, instead of fixing their current issues.3 points

Why did you change the colour of the Radar? It was very good in the previous version. Now it is just awful, not even close to the real AJS37.3 points

I plan to release this Cockpit mod. It's a Dark Cockpit but with complete Roughmet overhaul, as best could be without completely redoing the textures. Unfortunately, the 86 doesn't use normals on the interior or the pilot. So some trickery had to be used to create some illusions as best as they could be.2 points

Hey all. I've read your comments in regards of turning or updating the Huey into a different thing (UH-1N/ 212 or even a UH-1Y). Most of you comprehend that this would require a complete new model within DCS. So I guess not. Sharing the opinion of my fellow (rl) Huey aviators I'm really surprised of how accurate the largest part of the flight model is. Despite its age it is still one if the most accurate modules within DCS having a HUGE community of fans... at least what I am witnessing on the most frequented MP servers. Observed that plenty of FC modules have featured a graphical update within the last update of DCS one has to ask the question if the Huey hasn't deserved the same. At least I do. There are still plenty of flaws (i.e. interior 3D model, exterior lighting.... as to mention e few) and I'm sure most of us would like to see a major upgrade in this. I've prepared a list of the discrepancies between the rl Huey and the DCS module, getting ready to be forwarded to ED staff. The iconic Huey surely deserves to receive a major update even if there are plenty of other projects in the DCS pipeline of an even more financial attractive perspective for ED. Nevertheless I think HUEYLOVE has to be pushed forward to bring it onto the same level as the rest of the fantastic helicopter modules ED has published so far. CHEERS2 points

If the FCR is not available for targeting, such as if it has been damaged, it is being used by the Pilot for another purpose at that moment, or the FCR simply isn't installed on the aircraft. The FCR has many uses beyond just sending AGM-114L missiles toward targets on the battlefield, so it may not always be dedicated to targeting.2 points

FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! Now, this is where things gets interesting. AJS37: Viggen was released 7 years ago. DCS World looked very different back then, before big graphic changes that affected all the light-sources etc. Look at this screengrab from 7 years ago, 2017. It is much closer to what we are discussing about dialing in correct color of the green phosphor. From AJS37 Review by Ralfi When we finally made the jump onto the new graphic engine (around the release of Normandy 1). It affected all aircrafts in DCS. especially any type of lights. They became desaturated and bland under daylight conditions. And cockpits became very dark. Some modules was tweaked, others not so much. Viggens Radar scope in the new DCS World graphic engine was not an exception and ended up like this: This is what we have known for the last couple of years, but it certainly did not look like this at release. Watch any DCS: AJS37 video from 7 years ago and compare it to videos after the new graphics update. But this has been the new normal for a couple of years. We have gotten used to it. I think the initial version from 2017 is closer to what we have been trying to find in terms of what the actual radar looks like. Hilmerby probably knows best as he sat in front of the real thing, but looking at different materials from 2017-2018 It looks like HB sort of nailed the radar colors back in 2017. It was DCS World updates that changed the look of it. For reference:2 points

@flyingtom, I wasn't able to reproduce your crash, but I think I know why it happened. It's possible the crash occurred on RTB at the moment a tanker is spawned on the carrier. I've modified the trigger so the tanker now spawns mid-air. This "SHOULD" fix it. The update is live now: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3326679/ Also, is there any chance you have any mods installed right now? If so, which ones? Cheers, Sedlo2 points

The target is most likely outside of AWACS coverage. If you want to fire at targets outside of its coverage (i.e by satellite navigation), you need to use the 'Attack Group' command. I just tried it, and it worked fine against a target 485 nm away.2 points

I did some practice carrier landings this morning, absolutely no problems with the landing gear. Generally I think the aircraft feels great now, you’ve really got to watch your speed when you get into that high alpha range, that caught me out lol.2 points

So, lets bring something new to the discussion that has not yet been referenced. Here is another reference from a little known Swedish feature film called "Älskar, Älskar inte". As you can see, radar is much closer to the reference pictures posted by MYSE. And not washed out as it was before the update. Scene is depicting a birdstrike with emergency landing on a road, but there are some shots from the cockpit when we see the radarscope. There are also some references on the Warning panel lights. They look different... Might be from the older AJ37 model or faked/re-created for dramatic effect in the film. Certainly grabs the pilots attention Pretty cool scene, but no subtitles. Swedish only. VIDEO LINK https://vimeopro.com/blueskyaerials/blue-sky-aerial-and-specialist-filming/video/60091080 @MYSE1234 EDIT If @hilmerby knows the new color isn't even close to the real AJS37, it should probably be changed or tweaked. Just interesting how every reference we find makes it look very green-ish on video (or on 35mm film stock as shown above). But as discussed earlier, might be related to the phosphor.2 points

Agreed. As someone who does original research in history, I have to account for errors in texts constantly -- misspellings in place names, date errors, etc... and then sometimes you can think something is an error, but it's not, and that can be very difficult to unwind (but also satisfying) because it defies expectation. At any rate, I think Heatblur have done an amazing job on this module, and I plan to make it my next purchase, but I am hoping not to get an oscilloscope that looks like it's shot on video tape from decades ago Seriously, I hope the criticism is taken constructively. I want a realistic airframe, with realistic systems, and I get that it's not like there's an operational Viggen radar just sitting around for everyone to look at. Nonetheless, reconstructing something isn't just about looking directly at a source and saying "yup, that's it!" It's almost always about peeling away the layers that intervening years have added to it or subtracted from it. It's not easy. It is not easy, and someone is always going to think you got it wrong.2 points

I finally had a chance to play around with the new FM today. As everyone has said, the low speed, higher AoA capability has certainly improved. However, it does appear to me that there's been a fairly significant reduction in the Hornet's instantaneous and (especially noticeable) sustained turn rates. Before the update, if you kept your speed up between 350 an 400 kts, you could maintain a good rate (19-20ish deg. per sec.) without too much bleed. Now in 2.9.3, you cannot maintain airspeed if you initiate a turn at or below 400kts (any altitude) without major bleed down...and I'm talking no stores, in full AB, with only 55-60% back-stick deflection and roughly only 65-70% of max allowable G. I will post tracks tracks when I get a chance. I'm not saying this is wrong necessarily... but the new FM definitely appears to suffer more in ITR and STR than it did before. I'm also fiddling around with why, at lower weights and optimal airspeeds for higher sustained G's between 400 and 500 kts, the FCS-indicated available G cannot be sustained as it did before? ...but I'll obviously have to post some tracks.... I'm sure, overall, we've made a step closer to reality.2 points

Well, it sounds more like my Crystal is either a completely different device or your Crystal is defective. The only thing I can share from your experience is that it's not so comfortable to wear without some modifications. If someone owns a G2 and a Quest 3 (which I do) and then writes that the sweet spot of the Crystal is very small, and only there the image quality is superior to the other HS, then this Crystal must be defective. The Quest 3 can't keep up with either the G2 or the Crystal in terms of BQ. The only area where the Quest 3 beats the G2 is the huge sweet spot (augmented reality aside). The Crystal is vastly superior to the other headsets in all aspects of image quality. Especially when it comes to colors, the G2 can't even be considered a comparison, and the Quest 3 also has its problems there. Your Crystal must be defective. Never ever will this come true.2 points

As others have mentioned, the radar screen is completely unusable now and would never have passed operational service IRL.. Previous one was much closer to IRL so the patch for that should simply be reverted. And I'd say the same about the EP13 sight. To be able to see anything at all you need to reduce brightness to near 0, anything else just makes the image pure white. Contrast has little use as the image is very bright overall even with brightness at 0, the actual contrast seem to be light gray vs dark gray rather than white-black? And once you've found something slightly usable it's extremely difficult to even see targets now? As if the zoom is extremely low. I can see the targets way better looking out through the canopy than even through the enhanced zoom RB75B, where you might be able to differentiate a tree and a tank at about 5km. Now that you've managed to find the target and lock onto it the little opening that forms around the target is only a few pixels wide, so tiny that you might not even notice that you managed to get a lock. I sincerely doubt that this is anywhere near realistic as I wouldn't accept something like that into operational service... Noted that the cover for the CK37 display has been tilted way back now as well. The default seating position before was quite a bit too far back and is this new tilt based on that position or actual geometry from the real aircraft? Can't quite get a good seating position now... The new enlarged HUD fits pretty good in my more forward position but the CK37 display is then slightly difficult to see.2 points

Small resurrection 14 buttons 15 toggles (Various On/Off/Mom types) 1 pull switch 1 rotary with push total of 49 'switches' Including cases, cables, and Leo Bodnar, I'd estimate I'm out €175 total Which isn't 'cheap' but could have done cheaper going Arduino route (K.I.S.S. with the Bodnar), housing it in one case -Had a lot of connections left on the BBI-64, so added a 2nd box and buying the absolute cheapest switches and buttons available (and/or in bulk) It certainly gives me more than many 'professionally' made button boxes at a lower price Does it look pretty? Nope! Does it work? Most definitely! With the added bonus that this caters more to my personal wishes (And had fun with the building experience) Few things I learned: -Don't go for the cheapest wires - Also: Don't go for the shortest wires, 200mm was at some points barely enough to connect the wires to the center mounted board in the (200x120mm) case -Some 12mm buttons are somewhat too small in ergonomics for adult fingers (hence the bigger buttons on the top box, note both still are 12mm mounting holes) -Don't drill too close to the edges -Drilling holes by hand is a crapshoot, regardless of lines and measurements -Led lighting is a whole other story2 points

This is the only map the I didn't get any improvement on in VR at all, I also noticed a lot of texture loading when switching from the map view back to the cockpit view at 20000ft the textures were all blurry on the mountains and details were lost until they loaded back in which took about 15-30 seconds. Still quite a bit of work to be done to make this map frame rate friendly even on a 4090 on VR2 points

Autopilot has issues where at higher altitudes and slower speeds the plane starts rolling back and forth trying to capture the heading. It will attempt to hold the heading, start to roll slightly, then roll the other way trying to correct but overshoots the heading and this repeats with the roll increasing more and more each time. I've had it happen in CPLD, HSEL, and BALT, basically any mode that automatically trims to keep 0 degrees roll angle. The roll has been upwards of 15 degrees at it's worst. There's been a couple instances where coming out of BALT at high altitudes causes the plane to pitch wildly up and down, but that's much less common than the roll problem. A clean jet with no stores seems to stay stable, but the behavior starts even with just the asymmetry of an ATFLIR and 120C on the cheek stations. There's something going on with fuel consumption as well. I have posted my findings in the bug report section.2 points

There is only one light on the left side as opposed the two on the right side. Where the one on the left is located and shining I'm not sure, but made a guess it would light the front of the panel. I didn't find any reference for it so if you, or anyone else do, I'd be happy to change it. It's due to this reference. Now I'm aware that it's from a (AJ)SH37, but I have a hard time thinking they'd be that different color wise. Maybe they were though, but I'm working on very limited data here. Real radar from video on the left, old DCS top right, and new DCS lower right. The "white" circle marker can just about be seen at the very top of the left image for reference. (Old images on the right) null It has incorrectly been "white" previously. It should be black, like it now is. The taxi light is something I definitely am going to improve. They are black/grey IRL and thus are not very visible. Especially so at night. Subjective as you say, but using a sensible brightness level for the current time of day should make it look better than in that image. Going full blast IRL I would think wouldn't look very great either. The wear on those old ones look more out of place than the new panels IMO. To get the amount of "black" on those I think you'd need crew chief painting them with black paint. Here's some real panels that are quite old at the point of taking the photos. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's completely destroyed.2 points

@BIGNEWYI think I've figured it out. The new update page now has a field for the MAP. Leaving it blank (I didn't know it was there) meant an unsuccessful upload.2 points

had a chance to do some CV/airfield landings, lots of changes to assimilate: -pitch and roll inputs are twitchier/more precise; -you can pull much tighter turns, I have to go easier on the break turn to get the same amount of Gs; -trim feels different. My old settings no longer work, it does not seem to require as much input as before. Trim also feels less mushy and you can feel the input right away. OTOH, the trim changes feel more abrupt. Not saying the changes are good or bad, but it will take some time getting used to and getting the optimum performance out of it.2 points
