Haha, thanks for the info! If they actively supported modding (it's known to happen in the real world), maybe there would be less issues for users to complain about? And pointing towards imbalances in gameplay doesn't really make sense looking at the core game inventory. Maybe it's just me, but I've always had a hard time listening to game developers telling me how I should play the games I buy. Especially sandbox based games.10 points

Hi SD, I know it is difficult but try not to let the toxic people get to you, I have been here in the community for well over a decade and have seen lots of different types of people come and go. Please report anyone not keeping to the rules or common decency, we will deal with them. As mentioned in our DMs if you need to have a chat let us know, both Nineline and myself are available, even if it is not DCS related we are happy to try and help you. Health and family come first no matter what so please take as much time as you need. best regards bignewy8 points

Please, from the bottom of my heart - re-evaluate the use of satellite imagery. Handcrafted maps are what makes DCS stand out for me. Don't go down the other road - I beg you.7 points
-
To be honest, if it wasn't for the community producing amazing mods, I'd probably not be playing DCS much. The mods that we have keep me interested in the game during the long periods between feature and content updates. I created my weather mod because 3 years after introducing new cloud tech, ED hasn't done much with the weather.6 points

Thank you! Your mods are great! It is finally working! Having seen your collection i did not believe it is free for all! I really appreciate your efforts for our community.4 points

The wasteland between POIs can be procedural generated satellite sludge if necessary (but please, ED, find away to at least make them sharp). But a reasonable perimeter around cities, airfields, main roads and rivers, should be free of immersion destroying "stamps".4 points

No need to apologise for your English Silver. It’s better than my Japanese, or any of the other languages I don’t speak. Taking a bit of a break isn’t all a bad idea, especially if you’re not getting any pleasure from it. Try not to focus on the negatives too much, easier said than done at times I know. A lot of good things are taken for granted by so many, not everyone’s so ungrateful or unappreciative. Some pretty good sentiments in here, take something from those, ignore the muppets. Hope you’re feeling brighter soon.4 points

I'm very sure that there are many here and out there who, if reading your words there, will imediately think "yep, that sounds somewhat familiar". Unrelated, but I read your post and hear echoes of experiences in what now looks like another lifetime. "Passion projects", you'll often read/hear the term. These are of wide variety of complexity, done all at the cost of your free time and personal investment. Sometimes for many years, maybe over a decade. Sometimes at the cost of uncalled and harsh criticism, misjudgement and misinterpretation. From others and sometimes even from yourself - "why did I waste so much time and effort on this?" (etc). When, after all, it was what you wanted to do (and going back you probably would end up doing it again). Like others here (I suppose), I too look back and sometimes regret such long "passion projects" that, in the end, regardless of success and accolades (or not), have not given me the best "return" after such huge personal investment and effort, of my time and energy. Yet there are more positives than negatives, experiences and lessons, and why most of us into these kinds of things end up repeating the process, although more "cautiously" next time (live and learn!). A few things I later learned to be true, and you might as well: For each loud "hater", there'll always be a quiet someone that appreciates, admires and recognizes your effort. If you've created something that lasted and was appreciated by so many, then it's because it had/has value. Give the least possible importance to what others opiniate (the "IDGAF" principle). Not just because it's of no importance, but mostly because it pollutes your perception of things. Your mind is powerfull, it creates perceptions, and your perception creates your reality. Do not let what is of no importance become your reality. Always question yourself if you're doing it for the right reason, and if you're giving it the right importance. If you're into a project for the recognition of others, or by some sort of commitment you feel obliged to, then it's not really the right reason and is not important. It's great if it benefits others. But if this is your own project on personal free time and effort, then make it for yourself first and foremost. If your passion project or hobby starts to feel like work, then it's because it has become like work. Step aside for a while (like going on vacations), returning only when you feel that fire again in you - otherwise it may consume you (aka "burnout"). Or simply don't return to it - no shame on that. Sometimes the best course is leaving it, and reignite that fire in you with one other project, something else, somewhere else.4 points

The Huey is asked to perform a "Combat landing", which consists in a fast landing with a very low approach. This cannot be done here, but the AI keeps trying since it was asked to. Untick the "Command landing" box and the Huey will land.4 points

I thought it was my imagination since I didn't see it listed on the notes from the last update - maybe I missed it - but I did notice an improvement in my ability to spot contacts, and thus to remain engaged and participate in online play. Thank you for ongoing work, and I look forward to it continuing to improve. I've noticed in several servers now, that I can actually fly and fight alongside others where I couldn't before, and I've even ventured back into PVP servers after over a year of not feeling like I could play them. Thank you. Please keep these changes as you continue to improve upon them.3 points

@winghunter You're 100% right: the issue comes from the Huey. I've just reproduced the issue on a "PAD single" FARP. I landed properly, then slided aft, until the tip of my skid overpassed the tip of the pad. Skid gone. I'll edit my report. Many thanks!3 points

Either go back to hand crafted or massively improve the satellite imaging resolution. (Which according to Orbx needs to be an ED core update)3 points

Kola too, I think. But they did a better job to make it not as intrusive around the POIs (which are few in Kola anyway). The forest also helps to cover up some. SA also does look a lot better than Afghanistan right now. The main problem isn't the satellite imagery I think (even though I don't like it at all), but how they implemented it. It is just too random and the transitions are poor to non-existent. (and the "stamps") Neither SA nor Kola will ever be my most beloved maps (that place is firmly secured by Syria for now), but Afghanistan is last place by far - for now. Keep in mind though - that all this critique comes from the POV of a rotor head. I can see, why fixed wing pilots may come to a different conclusion.3 points

Jeeze, guys, are we still talking about this non-issue? Who tf cares. A digital avatar, that I very rarely lay an eye on, dressed in a neutral flying overall, wearing a helmet........ give me a break. Can we go back to be excited about this awesome helicopter (and module)?3 points

I am on the fence for this one. Beautiful small labor intensive handcrafted map vs huge satellite map. Hopefully one day AI can help to generate 2 million square handcrafted map.3 points

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns. We understand that everyone has high expectations, and we're committed to delivering the best possible experience. Allow me to address your points in detail: Ongoing Improvements: When I mentioned "tweaking Afghanistan during early access," I intend to convey that continuous improvements are being made during this phase. We recognize that interpretations can vary, and while it's challenging to satisfy everyone, we are actively monitoring feedback and working on necessary enhancements. Development Plans: We have laid out a comprehensive plans in our FAQ, and newsletters for Afghanistan delivery, and we aim to adhere to it as closely as possible. Our progress and testing outcomes will guide us, and we'll keep the community updated on any developments. Taking Time When Needed: If we do require more time we will let you all know, we do have to be flexible and that is why we share our plans with you all. If plans change we will of course let you all know. Resource Management and Recruitment: Recruiting skilled talent is indeed a challenge, but we are constantly on the lookout for capable individuals. Those working on the project are fully dedicated, though we must manage resources wisely. Summer holidays also affect our timelines, which is a factor we have to account for. We appreciate your passion and commitment to our projects over the years, and we value your feedback as it helps us improve. Best regards Bignewy3 points

mistakes are possible, they are almost inevitable. but there are a lot of not mistakes on map, but frankly unmade/ poorly made areas. there is no need to cover everything with early access. If marketed, it must be an acceptable product for consumption. add city, village, airfield, this is what should have been added to maps later, and not the reworking of half map with addition of many areas of supposedly high detail (exaggerating).3 points
-
You see, this is the type of comment that worries me. The word "tweaking" is not what is needed here. There is a "huge" amount of work needed on this 'S/E portion" of the map that was stated to be "for all intents and purposes, feature complete". I've been switching back and forth between Afghanistan and other maps and I see none of the issues present on this map on others like Syria or even the new Kola map. It will take a huge amount of work to make Afghanistan look as good as Syria, which in my opinion is the bar that has been set for a quality map. The only other place I've seen this type of postage stamp, jigsaw puzzle piece imaging is in the upper northern part of Sinai which is the overlapping area to the Syria map. The other two sections of Afghanistan are supposed to release over the next 6 months which worries me that if those two portions have to be completed in the next 6 months how is this first unfinished portion going to get proper attention? We keep hearing that ED is in a good financial situation, so why rush products like this to market in this state. Why announce the Chinook is releasing and then yank it for weeks to further work on it instead of just waiting to announce release when it's actually ready? It didn't get held up for a "bug", it got held up for further development. This is all just very bizarre. I'm quite tired of the nauseating remarks from people that just jump onto a forum thread and start whining about the so-called whiners. We are paying customers. I've been around since before this sim was even called DCS and I've spent a ridiculous amount of dollars on it, so yes, I feel entitled to complain if a product doesn't seem up to acceptable standards. I obviously support ED or I wouldn't have been around so long and spent so much money on it. That doesn't mean I won't speak up when it's warranted. The F16 was a very bad release and I feel like we are close to that level of release again with this map and we almost had it with the Chinook. We also have an Iraq map and another plane announced to be released in 2024. I'm not sure how that is possible. Maybe they have hired a whole new team of developers?3 points

change log: 2.9.6.58056 "Spotting Dots - In the previous update, we adjusted this behaviour that many of you noticed. This is still very much WIP and being adjusted. We welcome your feedback and will be monitoring it. " this is my feedback To be honest, I didn't expect this issue to be turned into an adjustment. You're making DCS a pixel-to-pixel fight again... You've made the dots extremely small, and even as they disappeared, they continued to disappear. I described everything here: Spotting dots - WIP - such an important thing as seeing your opponent, has been going on for the second year now. There were already external mods that could replace 2 years of your work, but they were deleted. The solution with large square dots was an embarrassment, now you are back to point zero. Congratulations. New maps, planes, amazing videos promoting new content. How to enjoy it? if the core of the fun is broken. Changes to the game engine only seem to bring no money. I spent a lot of money to be able to enjoy DCS, and lately the only thing I can offer is this bugged production that irritates me. Thank you for your support and passions, I'm leaving.3 points

You need to modify the model viewer autoexec file to point to the Saved Games Folder. Starting about 3:01 in this video tells you how and what you need to modify:3 points

I see no dots, just a very tiny plane at max distances (exactly how I think such things would appear in real life). Any further and I wouldn't expect to be able to see a real one. In my opinion the viewing experience is pretty much full-real. Pimax Crystal.3 points

This is because you're running the ST ModelViewer Need to use MT ModelViewer in \Bin-mt\ ST is going away soon, any new features, are likely not coded for ST regardless, it's been this way for over a year, any new features require MT..3 points

Thank you, I'd lie if I didn't say I'm a bit exhausted from all the troubleshooting. 1. I'm aware of this issue, I think I can fix this in the next release. 2. I plan to add the Buk M3 with the next Russian pack update. Haven't decided what else, but there are more assets coming.3 points

the new way to enable this is, go to autoexec.cfg in your dcs saved games \config add following line: input = { command_code_tooltips = true, }3 points

First post! Yeah me! I have decided to start my own thread here to put up all my static templates and miz files of the main PBs, FOBs and COPs for TF Helmand (The British ones mainly) and then the complete miz file with them all included in one place. This is a pretty big task so it is all a WIP. Completed TF Helmand_Nadi Ali - PB Pimon TF Helmand_Sangin - PB Pylae TF Helmand_Sangin - PB Tangiers TF Helmand_Sangin - PB Wishtan TF Helmand_Sangin - FOB Jackson TF Helmand_Nadi Ali – FOB Argyll TF Helmand_Now Zad – District Centre TF Helmand_Now Zad – ANP Hill TF Helmand_Gereshk – FOB Price WIP TF Helmand_Lashkar Gar – TF Helmand HQ TF Helmand_Lashkar Gar – FOB Bost TF Helmand_Upper Gereshk Valley – FOB Gibraltar TF Helmand_Kajaki - FOB Zeebrugge TF Helmand_Kajaki - OP Normandy TF Helmand_Kajaki - OP Sparrowhawk TF Helmand_Kajaki - OP Athens TF Helmand_Sangin Valley – FOB Nolay TF Helmand_Sangin Valley – PB Viking TF Helmand_Sangin Valley – PB Waterloo TF Helmand_Sangin Valley – COP Robinson TF Helmand_Upper Sangin Valley – FOB Inkerman TF Helmand_Musa Qaleh – District Centre TF Helmand_Musa Qaleh – FOB Edinburgh TF Helmand_Musa Qaleh – OP Roshan TF Helmand_Garmsir – FOB Delhi TF Helmand_Garmsir – FOB Dwyer (Already on the map so not sure what to with this one as it was the 105 gun fire base for support of FOB Delhi). And more to be added to the list…. Each of the FOBs will be recreated as close to realistic as I can possibly make them within the limits of the DCS Mission Editor, using my own and many other sources. They may not all date to the exact same time period or year either, but they will all be within 2006-2008/9 hopefully. Also I will not be using any mods so they will be accessible for all without the need to download anything else or increasing the chances of these being broken as DCS updates. If anyone has any ideas or wishes please do reply! Hopefully someone will get some use or enjoyment out of these! All of these templates are hidden. To reveal them on your map you will need to go to map options in the mission editor and unhide blue units! The first of many! TF Helmand_Nadi Ali - PB Pimon This is my new and improved PB Pimon as it has been resized to be correct, the last one was twice the size it should have been! Oops! The static template can be downloaded from here; https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3339481/2 points

Great there is a way - and actually, this is a better way, because finally this is a Saved Games setup, not messing with the installation stuff. Of course, *.lua suffix would be more handy for syntax highlighting in editors. But thanks for the info!2 points

Exactly. Just unpack the smaller one and overwrite the files.2 points

I found this thread before rereporting this, so let's bump. @BIGNEWY @NineLine As outlined in this thread, all older (WWII) artificial horizons in DCS are lacking the self-correcting pendulous vanes mechanism, which makes them not very useful. The drift due to maneuvers is modelled, but no self-righting is modelled, so the AH just build up drift. In reality, they should correct if you're flying the aircraft straight and level. So errors caused by maneuvers should be there, but they should decrease gradually when you stop maneuvering. They don't do that. I don't have specific data on the Ka-50 but it is rather obvious that it must also have some self-righting property - this one is the most useless of them all (backup one).2 points
-
I asked A. Chizh about ballistic missiles, answers are unambiguous: OTR Iskander, Tochka, Lans, GMLRS, ATACMS are on the wish list. When we get our hands on it, we’ll do it. Since weapons have a very sensitive effect on gameplay, we do not support modding in this direction. Mods often cause problems for users, who begin to inundate our technical support with complaints. This is precisely why we will not support it.2 points
-
I think that is helpful. I will edit the file so it points to the new folders that replaced the old "\Mods\aircraft\Flaming Cliffs" folder that has disappeared. I think I can see what ED changed in the DCS folders and files. Yes, that fixed it. Thanks a lot!2 points
-
That’s funny, because the most work, and most ongoing improvement in the past 5 years has been the cockpit Sim. Combat has backslid, basic aviation concepts remain ignored or missunderstood by ED, and weapons guidance have basically become wildly unstable systems. Which tracks since the original product was an A-10 Partial Task Trainer for Cockpit work.2 points

This map is now Awesome ! Runing dcs in ultra, it become a real pleasure, with photorealistic feeling relief and shadows. Thank you @Raz_Specter for the good work and improvemens !!2 points

After upgrading to theVer 2.9.6.57650 of the DCS, I noticed that in VR mode, the ability to visually see the aircraft is greatly reduced, and I can barely see the aircraft at close range. It's understandable that you can't see the plane clearly on a 2D screen, but intentionally adjusting the 3D mode to be almost as good as 2D is not realistic. Please take care to fix this in the next version.thanks2 points
