Hey everyone. The Pilot Boat is broken. Not sure what's going on with it so it has gone to the shipyard. However, I have created a newly updated Pilot Boat mod that I have been meaning to create and I guess this is the best time to do it. I created her the old-fashioned way with textures not in Substance Painter so if you all like you can create some liveries. This model is based on the Pilot Boats in California and Canada at least from what I can see. I'm finishing her up now for release tomorrow. Tuesday, September 24th. Stay Tuned.13 points

Good Afternoon Everyone, as promised. I have released the newly updated Pilot Boat version 1.0.2 with Flag liveries. I did not add an Encyclopedia Folder because there's not much information to add. Below you can see the Coxswains View. You need Combined Arms installed to use the Coxswains View. In the future, I will try to add Animated Characters. Enjoy Everyone.6 points

Hello Everyone, looked at what popped up on my YT feed. An old Knox Class frigate used by Taiwan. I will create that version as well once i update her.6 points

We have been doing some heavy testing on this and have decided for this upcoming patch to roll back the changes so that we have more time to prepare a system that will adjust the don't based on what headset you are using (or if you are on 2D). We are also looking to see if some options to adjust yourself would make sense as well. We are sorry for the delays on this but trying to test across a broad sample of setups does take time.4 points

No, you certainly can’t just email them. You’re got to start arguing about it on the WT forums until someone wants to prove a point and post the documents there.4 points

First, I would encourage everyone on this thread to stop using the term "NASA test". They ran simulations only, no tests. Second, NASA used publicly available data, no doubt full of estimates and assumptions, along with an in-house trajectory optimizer to fly "zero-lift trajectories ... with no missile guidance (fixed fins)". When I contacted the lead author through a mutual acquaintance to ask for more details, he described the results as "far from being definitive."4 points

Sir or Ma'am, As an old CH-47D/F PIC and MTP I can say I LOVE your product. Obviously it has a lot of work before the final product but I think you are well on your way to an awesome simulator. Here are some of my takeaways from my run through of the start up that you are probably already aware of but if not then I hope they help. Before I get started here, let me start with saying I have still not been given permission to reference my old CH-47F materials so I have purposely not done so. So everything I discuss here is going off nearly 10 year old memory or CH-47D manuals. So if you think you have better information on a topic I bring up all I can say is you are probably right! 1. DAFCS. I understand this is a work in progress. So take what I say here with a grain of salt and a lot of paitence. Currently what you have going seems to be a hybrid between AFCS on and AFCS off. With AFCS on the aircraft should maintain pitch, roll, and yaw attitudes and heading based off the last place you pressed the CDR. That is regardless of weather you have any type of holds or other advanced features engaged or not. Additionally, when flying in forward flight AFCS on should maintain your trim automatically. To put it simply, when I was yanking and banking I could do so with my feet off the pedals because the aircraft would keep the aircraft in trim for me. Finally, at a hover that thing is going to want to keep your exact attidue and heading again regardless of any hold features engaged. One of the checks we did for maintenance test flights was to push the aircraft out of their set postions WITHOUT pushing the CDR and ensuring the aircraft returned to the last selected attitude. Going off pure memory here. I want to say for pitch, roll, and yaw it was +-1.5 degrees. Though I may be off on that. You can reference the CH-47D MTF manual to get those exact numbers. Now, AFCS off you are going to have to work the pedals and controls to keep a good attitude and trim condition at all times. 2. CDR: The CDR doesn't appear to do anything. You all have a great system in the Huey which I would love to see mirrored in the -47! 3. Flight control sweep. Right now you have it set for max forward +6.5 and max aft -4.5. If I recall the CH-47F correctly the MINIMUM control sweep should have been +7 and -4.5. The CH-47D manuals said +7 to -4 but I seem to remember the CH-47F has a bit wider margin. 4. CGI: The CGI test button does not cause the CGI to do anything. Additionally, I did not notice movement of the CGI in flight. This guage should be a quick reference performance indicator. The heavier/faster/more agressive you fly the higher that needle raises. 5. In your start up guide there is no clear explaination on spooling up the EGIs, radios, etch. I seem to remember in the old 8.4 software of the CH-47F we had to go in manually to start all that stuff up. But I can not for the love of me remember the proper sequence. I can find that the EGIs need to be turned on in your simulator so I think there is something to my memory on that so anything you have on that added into the simulator startup guide would be appreciated (unless I completely missed it then I appologize)! Oh, I will say this too. I asked a buddy of mine who just retired a year ago to guide me through the start up of all the avionics and stuff and he said "Crap man, we were on such an later software then 8.4 when I retired. All that stuff is automatic now." So maybe that would be something to incorporate into your sim. Have all those EGIs and stuff auto spool up? Well, this is what I got for now. I hope some of it may be helpful. Either way, thank you for the consideration! And again, awesome job!3 points

Can @BIGNEWYor @NineLine comment on where this is at? I am a 10+ year user of DCS (and previously LOMAC) and have currently put DCS on hold due to the fact that I can't see other aircraft until it is far too late (usually inside 1 mile). I use a Pimax Crystal VR headset, and even tried reverting to 2D (4K 27" display). The problem is equally bad in both VR and 2D. I have never had so much trouble with visually acquiring targets and other aircraft as I have on recent versions of DCS. I also fly IRL so I have a good idea what real world visual acquisition entails. If where we are now is ED's version of "Solved", then I guess it's time for this long time user to move on...3 points

Okay … for those following along, I just uploaded M06 – Darkness Falls to the ED files. As soon as it’s approved, I’ll post a link in the OP. The campaign story is wrapping up and will likely end with M07. My group has had a blast playing though these missions and I hope anyone who’s played has a similar experience. I’ll link a video of one of my buddies ( @Wulf103 ) and I flying this over the weekend. Warning – this is a massive story spoiler so anyone who wants to experience this firsthand, please avoid the video. A couple of thoughts having played through this a bunch of times. 1 – This is going to be tough for a single player. Not impossible, but the most difficult mission to solo so far. There is a cheat option towards the end of the mission that is accessed via the F10 radio menu for those who can’t destroy the local insurgents. 2 – I experimented with @WirtsLegsIR STROBE functionality in this mission and really like the results. You can see what I mean in the video below. Big shout out to Wirt and @jumphigh for their scripting prowess. Thanks! 3 – There’s a lot of AI units in this mission who’s behavior is critical to the story. I had to play around with a fair amount to get this all to work properly. After many tests, I think you’ll be good to go. IF, you experience mission breaking failures please let me know here or via DM. 4 – This can be a long mission, but you should have enough fuel. You’re definitely going to go BINGO fuel, but should have enough fuel to accomplish the mission and get back to UNIFORM. 5 – My guys completed the mission with 2 Hellfires and the .50 cal. We did not attempt with APKWS so your mileage may vary with those rockets. We took the hellfires because of their punch from a distance [almost 5 miles in this mission]. 6 – Like most of the missions in this campaign, this mission scales with more helo’s. I added a message to players letting them know when the mission is waiting for something to be destroyed. I hope the message isn’t too distracting (its been in previous missions too). The number of units to be destroyed varies with number of helo’s in the game. Besides Wulf103, I want to acknowledge @Devil 505 for his creative assistance and testing prowess during this campaign. Without these two fellas I can assure you this never would have seen the light of day. Thanks!3 points

The option youre mentioning is "use mouse cursor" if you disable it, you have the opposite of what that thread is about. Then you can only move it with the head, which is not what we want. The problem with the current implementation is that you naturally counter move the head movement with mouse movement, which makes it so hard to click something in a battle, when you dont have time to fumble around. I dont want to disable the mouse movement. But I dont want to have it bound 1:1 to my head movement so that I have to keep my head perfectly still to hit the button I want and not the one besides it. It should just sit and stay where I put it. If it comes to the boundaries of the VR view (probably due to a head movement), it can be dragged around by the boundary. So you can bring it back in focus with a little mouse jiggle.3 points

I want to have full-fidelity Su-25 in DCS. Why: I love Su-25 It's soooo relevant these days (ofc a way more relevant than MiG-29) It's legendary (even more legendary than MiG-29 IMHO) We have Afganistan map, but don't have FF Su-25, please tell me that it's not a joke Su-25 from FC2024 is playable and flyable. But it lacks system modelling (especially weapons system and navigation system) and some flight model improvements. P.S. Please3 points

The current DCS version of the bomber (AI) uses cruise missiles which are very rookie. These cruise missiles can only travel in a straight line to the target and cannot set a path to bypass air defense interception like in reality. However, similar functions have been implemented on the aircraft used by players, such as JF17's CM-802AKG and FA18's SLAM-ER. As shown in the figure below, it is hoped to add similar functions to the aircraft of AI units when performing cruise missile attacks, so that ME authors can mark the turning points of the aircraft launching cruise missiles on the map, and the missiles will eventually reach the actual target after passing through these turning points in sequence. This rule is relatively simple. When the "attack ground" command includes a turning point, the missile will go through all the turning points in numerical order before finally reaching the target. If this function is not enabled, the cruise missile will go directly to the target. This will greatly enrich the use of bombers and cruise missiles.2 points

Look, I think it's safe to say we'd all like to run the 'G' model. We can't. However the 'E' can be just as useful when employed correctly. Can you take out a modern big-arsed SAM site solo? Lets take a scenario. You are tasked with dismantling a reinforced Grumble site at Maykop. You are taking off from Sochi with a pair of Shrikes, a pair of Mavs a Jammer, a tank, and the rest kitted out for A2A. By 'reinforced' I mean, an SA-15 TOR an SA-19 Tunguska, various Shilkas and maybe KORD or two you know. For laughs and stuff. Your work starts before you take off. Prioritize your targets. You might think that the important target would be the SA-10. It's not. True you'll need to take it out, but the way you'll be flying the SHORAD are the much bigger threat. Take them out first. Beating an SA-10 is easy in broken terrain. Beating a TOR is a whole different beast. Beating a Pantsir is pretty much impossible. Leave those for the HARM jockeys. Take out the longest range, deadliest SHORAD first. The SA-15. The SA-19 can wait. Choose your weapons The seeker heads on a Shrike are single target only. You need to pick the right ones off the bat. Look up the Shrike chart in the manual and load a MK-25 on the left outermost, and a 50 on the right. Unless its bright day or early/late either the A/B or D versions of the Maverick will have issues. So carry one of each or a mixture if you are going without A2A. Choose your route. You'll want as much terrain between you and Maykop for as long as possible. There is a handy valley running north/south terminating at Maykop city. Plan waypoints to follow that valley entering it high in the mountains and following it all the way along. Get a good look at the positioning of these systems, remember where they are in relation to runways, treelines, shelter or buildings. You'll need that because the ingress is going to be visual and the Shrike has a limited seeker cone. Pick a reference point you can identify quickly for the SA-15. Also do that for the SA-19 and the SA-10 *TRACK RADARS* Set your switches. Either leave it in A2A or AGM-45. It'll be set for Mavs. They are useless at the moment. Call in CAP. The Rhino (bless her) is a big girl when she's fully loaded. The weapons systems are, well, old. Have help if you can get it. As you pass over the highest peaks, instruct Jester to use countermeasures. I know he will, but do it anyway. Then flip on the Jammer. Pretty soon you'll get the SA-10 warning tone from it's search radar. And the jammer like the Maverick, has a 3 minute warm up. ASSUME THERE IS ALREADY A MISSILE IN THE AIR. The Grumble uses TVM (Track Via Missile). You may not get a launch warning. Drop it like it's hot. Get low. Get fast. Stay low until the SA-10 symbol disappears. If it reappears, pop a countermeasure and look for something to hide behind. It doesn't have to be high, it just needs to conceal you. Keep working your way towards Maykop city. The Phantom cycles weapons from left to right. Have the Left pylon selected, the Missile in AGM and Direct. Master Arm on. (if you haven't already done all of that) Finally as you near Maykop city the SA-15 should come active. You should be at or above 500Kts and either very low over the buildings, or preferably slipping between the taller ones. Drying laundry and blowing out windows. The tone should be going off from the Shrike. Locate the reference point you planned earlier and head straight for it. Climb SLIGHTLY! and locate the SA-15. Either the spot it should be occupying if you're lucky or the smoke trail if you aren't. Launch the Shrike. REVERSE AND DIVE IMMEDIATLY popping countermeasures. Get back to the city and get down in the streets. If all goes well the Shrike should arrive before you trash the SA-15's missile and it won't shoot the Shrike down. Again, if you are lucky it's now destroyed, But it should be at least disabled. And that's just as good. Either way it's out of the fight. If the shrike doesn't get it done keep darting in and out of the city until the 15 has drained its missiles. - This is weaseling. Try to avoid that: "Better DEAD than SEAD". Repeat for the Tunguska. Notice the SA-10 isn't bothering you? You've jammed the WEZ for it. You are too low, too fast, too close for it to accurately target you. Take some time to breath. Set the Mavericks up. Lazily orbit in that zone for the three minutes it takes to spin them up. The locate the search radars. Stay back a bit and clobber them with a Maverick. Get too close and the AAA will murder you. Once the search radars are gone, the site is neutered. It can't launch. If all else fails you can go in with the cannon. But that is at best a crapshoot.2 points

Advanced editing by aircraft type, Thanks to @scrupeus For this information and example. It is possible to set up your exports to be aircraft specific. What does that mean? Well you may want your MFCDs exports to be a different configuration for different aircraft. Example, you fill a screen with two MFCDs for the A10C, but you want to fit three MFCDs on that screen for the FA-18 or Apache. Or maybe you want a Right MFCD to be larger in some aircraft, whatever. This removes any requirement to change the names of MFCD exports in their respective files, or have multiple profiles for different aircraft, and will pass integrity check (as long as you don't modify any other files like RWR displays etc.) We do this by adding a function to our monitor config files. The function "listens" to DCS for the unit type (aircraft being flown), and sets up the exports depending on the unit type. We add an "else" function towards the end to allow for a default location for the exports. We can also group aircraft together with an "or" command. If you do not specify a particular aircraft for reconfiguration, it's exports will be shown in the "else" location Example config file, no mods, just every aircraft with default exportable displays with it's own entry. Exports by aircraft type.lua Example: Example config file In the above example, the A10C & A10C2, Apache, and F-16C have defined MFCD export locations, and any other aircraft's MFCD export will be shown in the "else" location This is a list of the unit types And these are the Default MFCD Export names Cheers Jon2 points

I watched a vid yesterday which included a review. The user tried his Virpil F14 grip and 200mm extension and had 2 concerns: - his view was that the extension resulted in the torque being effectively decreased by the point that it reaches the grip (leverage). His comment being that 100mm might be a better compromise - he mentioned that some of the buttons didn’t work as expected with the Virpil grip. Unfortunately, he didn’t state what those issues were, so I’ve no idea if he meant that a single button wasn’t working, or maybe all of them As a user of a Virpil grip with 200mm extension, I’m looking to understand better2 points

Just for info, on my fourth attempt I had the helicopter crash (pretty spectacular really) but as I had been about 25 minutes setting up, I and the F86 just taxied through the flames and all was ok. Ended up my most successful attempt at the mission so you can can carry on if that happens. equally, I have no mods.2 points

Reporting back on how things developed. Winwing asked me to open the screen case, destroy the screen and send photos so they can send a replacement device. Upon screen / case disassembly, I discovered that an internal cable connecting the PCB to the screen was not properly locked into the connector. I carefully inserted it into the connector and locked it. And the screen then worked again. I asked Winwing if my warranty would still be preserved and they confirmed this. So all OK in the end of the day.2 points

I saw ED make the decision to abandon the single-threaded version, I remember ED saying :Multi-threading was a prerequisite to support the Vulkan API backend and enhance system performance/efficiency.
