Hi, when can we expect the F16 to work as well as it did at the beginning of this year? The FCR and the cooperating modules are in a terrible state. Especially the functions concerning the TWS. There are so many issues, and, as if that's not enough, with every new patch we get more of them, mostly related to each other. So guess what, 2 new TWS bugs were added with this patch. Many of the problems are known for several months and have not been fixed even after 3 major updates. Look at the F16 FCR, especially the TWS section. It's a mess right now. The sad thing is, it has worked pretty well in the past! 1000 times better than now. Instead, fixing all those stone old bugs, you add the new ground radar shadows, but you can't fix the sticking to the cross bug for the ground radar. That all wouldn't be a problem, if the F16 systems never worked better in the past, but most, if not all, did! In the past, the F16 Radar and all the modules were working much better than now! Are you not aware in what bad state the F16 Module is right now? All that was starting with the first big patch this year, and since then it gets worse and worse. One fix, two new issues. Two fixes, four new issues. The Bug-Section is full of "stone old" Bugs, reported but not fixed. I suggest instead of constantly implementing new "features" for the F16, or new modules, you should start to fix all the game breaking bugs at first. Am I right? It's no problem, if the progress is "not fast", but it's a huge problem, if the progress seems to be that we will get more and more bugs for systems who worked very well before. Some known F16 bugs: 1. F16 Switching modes, Dogfight/ missile resets the radar setting 2. TMS up command starts a radar slew from left azimuth locking the first target that comes into its sight (ACM mode) 3. radar in "NO RAD" with JHMCS still locks targets ( ACM mode) 4. TWS: Cancelling a Cursor/Bugged Target doesn't return Azimuth Scan Limits to a normal TWS scan 5. AG Radar Image sticking to Crosshairs (it's marked as fixed with this patch, but it isn't) 6. Unable to use Spotlight in TWS 7. Air Boresight Issues 8. F-16 Radar takes too long to create track targets with FCR in TWS 9. IFF MASTER Selector behaviour 10. Difficulty upgrading Track Targets to System Targets ......... And there are many, many more. If it takes me 5 Minutes of testing to find 2 new bugs (TWS section) coming with this patch, jumping right into my face, I can say for sure, nobody ever tested it. I found 2 new bugs in less than 5 minutes. So now, after this patch, we not only can't have a stable MFD setting with RWS or TWS, we now can't switch back from TWS to RWS with the long TMS right press anymore. And, as if this wasn't enough "fun", we can't spotlight in TWS anymore. A small hint, both things worked pretty well till this patch. At the end, some small fixes and 2 new bugs. Not good. The F16 is no fun right now. I need for most of the systems workarounds, more than ever before. The "funny" part is, there were no new systems implemented. Those systems are old, but getting filled with new bugs every new patch. So I have to ask: "What's going on?" Why you (ED) add so many bugs to working systems without any reason? The 2 new bugs are made because of what? The F16 systems are old. They worked well. And now, instead of fixing the old bugs, you add more new issues. Stop it, please. Please fix the bugs and stop to implement new ones! Thank you for reading.14 points

Makes exterior lights render from much further out. Mod is set to 10 times further than default. Easily configured inside the mod, open "fake_lights_debug_uniforms", ctrl+f "Arttu", and change to your liking. Affects: Position lights, Strobe lights, Boat lights, Ground fires (maybe more, these are confirmed) Does not affect: Formation lights, city lights No noticeable performance loss. I dont do "Tops" as such. Each map has it good and bad points. I also prefer helos so my needs may differ from others. Syria offers the best overall experience with a varied environment and good detail, Normandy2 offers similar in a temperate flavour IF you can get past the 1940s settings and cars driving on the wrong side of the road in the UK. The Channel map can be good for Helos as well as warbirds but has some faults that can get on your nerves if you let them though I think it has the some of the best countryside scenes. The Marianas has good coastal details that dont fall apart too much as you get closer albeit real estate is limitied. PG is good albeit a little bland and under developed. Caucauses is not bad for a free map and, if you choose your play area well, holds up reasonably well. NTTR is only installed because of the Mig Killer's campaign. YMMV. The irony of the images used to support the argument did make me smile. Ultimately there are those who are happy with the map and those who are not. Im obviously in the latter group. The EA argument both frustrates and annoys me. Im well aware of what EA is. I have enough modules under that banner to understand. This isnt about EA. Its about stuff that isnt up to par and never will be. I dont personally think OrbX and ED were as up front as they should have been been about the state of it on release and I continue to think the updates and improvements are over hyped for the overall effect to give an impression things are on the up. I almost didnt pre-order Kola but the images of the airfields pulled me in. Now to have OrbX shrugging their shoulders and blaming the engine for not delivering what was promised leaves a nasty taste. Like others, I've spent a lot with OrbX over the years in other sims. I expected a little more competency and honesty. Equally ED made all the right noises about their new map tech (albeit without actually saying anything of substance on reflection) which also fooled me into thinking that, given Afghanistan is a pretty rocky place, they had a plan for it. They didnt and dont. Ultimately, the map making tech being used isnt suited to producing rocky features in large scale right now (if at all). That is clear. And it should (and likely was) have been clear from the get go.7 points

Hi fighters! Congratulations on the map update. Let's see what's new. The update was conceived as a minor one: we first collected your wishes on the forum and worked on them, while simultaneously conducting optimization. But in the end, we decided to add new objects and expand the functionality for pilots and mission creators: Attack aircraft, new targets have been prepared for you: many military bases have been added. Helicopter pilots, many opportunities are open to you, your flight geography has been increased. Check out the map: you need to deliver personnel and cargo to military bases, pick up a general from a new training ground, or make a difficult landing at a stadium. What we have in the release: The scenes of 51 airfields have been improved. Improved scenes of 50 military bases: - Syria 30 - Israel 8 - Lebanon 3 (UN bases) - Turkey 2 - Cyprus 7 61 new military bases have been added: - Syria 24 - Israel 17 - Jordan 5 - Lebanon 15 Helicopter pads have been added to 93 military bases. Helicopter pads have been added to standard hospitals, stadiums, and oil fields. New facilities have been added: a typical hospital, T-55, BTR-60, a gas torch, large flags, liveries for the a300, airfield radars, a weather site. The territory of the central part of Israel has been added. Missing parts of the aeronautical charts have been added. The models were optimized. Scenes have been optimized. Fixed: - increased parking size for F-4E aircraft at Sayqal Air Base; - lighting in the hangar of the Incirlik Air Base; - taxiways at Muwaffak Salti airfield; - the size of parking lots for C-130 and Il-76 aircraft at the Amman airfield has been increased; - changed the Amman airfield icon in the mission editor; - part of the fence has been moved away from RUNWAY 26 at Gazipasa airfield; - Added an air traffic control tower at the King Hussein Air College; - added an air traffic control tower at the King Abdullah II Air Base; - objects on Patriot launch pads at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base have been removed; - added runway and taxiway signs at Prince Hassan Air Base; - TACAN upgraded to VORTAC at Prince Hassan Air Base; - ILS identifier and frequency at Prince Hassan Air Base; - relief of the monument to the unknown soldier in Damascus; - relief Sanctuary of Notre Dame du Lebanon in Beirut; - broken road and bridge near Latakia; - many visible joints of earth textures; - a lot of minor flaws in the relief of the map. - the size of parking lots at Dumayr, King_Abdullah_II_Air_Base, Shayrat, H3 Southwest, Damascus, Adana, Abu_Ad_Duhur, Al_Qusayr, Aleppo, Herzliya airfields has been increased. 1. Military bases. More than 100 bases across the map. 2. Tank training grounds. In addition to the training ground, they include a military town, warehouses and garages for equipment, and helipads. 3. Hospitals with helipads. Try yourself in the difficult conditions of the city. Watch your altitude! 4. Torches and helipads at oil and gas fields. "It's not personal. It's just business" - fuel is always needed. You will have to transport a team of workers or guard these objects. 5. New objects. Surely you have seen such flags, now you will have no doubts over which territory you are. Added civilian airfield equipment and diversified static liveries. 6. Night. It's just beautiful Fly, have fun, leave reviews - we read everything, but do not relax: we hope that in October we will be able to please map users with news about another update.5 points

I want them to release a hotfix to at least bring back the option "improved spotting dots: off" to work again. Then they can take whatever time they wish to tweak it during next years. Consider it "popular demand" to allow realistic visibility of targets which should be a challenge, not forced on labels as it is now for many.4 points

I've now spent several hours on the new textures and the improvement are massive. The main jarring thing is the ground textures not covered by trees. They have very low textures when seen from above. But is just grass once you get low enough. And so looks fine when you put the camera at eye height. Yes hopefully ED can fix their engine to allow for bigger texture files. But even now, overall it the 3rd best looking map. After Syria and Normandy 2. Those are still king of the hill down low. It's far more jarring trying to fly on Afghanistan. Where there's just a few square meters you can use for anything. As even the "high quality" parts has only a few pieces of ground that doesn't look terrible anywhere you look. On Kola I can plopp down ground units almost anywhere and it will look fine at ground units height. Not so on Afghanistan.4 points

Hey RWC & CRUD thanks for the feedback. RWC, sorry to hear you're having issues with the latest Rebel mod. I also updated DCS to the latest version but I didn't have any graphics issues. I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 TI graphics card. Did you see anything in the DCS Logs that would give you an indication of what it might be? Let me know. Thanks. CRUD, you're right the Tarantul Corvette has stopped working in DCS. ED has probably updated their weapons code which caused the existing code to stop working. Whenever a mod doesn't appear in DCS. The first thing I do is disable all the weapons and or a few weapons and that helps me determine sometimes where the problem lies. --- CRUD, I have all new USCGC mods. To include the Island, Sentinel-class, and new small patrol boats including a new USCG Response boat so there coming. Maybe one month i will just create all small patrol boats. 99% of the time when a mod doesn't appear in DCS it's usually because of the weapons code at least that's what I see. So I disabled all the weapons in the Tarantul mod files and it appeared in DCS. So I need to rework the weapon code on the Tarantul mod. With that said, I will bring it into the shipyard and work on her. Thanks again CRUD. --- Concerning the Italian Fleet. For some reason, the hull numbers on the FREMM are blurry when looking at them from a distance in DCS. Once completed, I will release them. Sorry, it's taking a while but it seems Medical appointments have become my part-time job and I'm not getting paid for them. --- On another note. Thank you all for your continued interest in the mods. Otherwise, I probably would have stopped creating mods by now due to the ongoing health issues but as long as you all have an interest the more AI DCS Ship mods I will create. The Horizon Class Missile Frigates are next in line. Stay safe out there.4 points

I'm not a 1k forum poster like some here. I just started posting about this issue a week ago as I play in VR and do not have a Pimax headset. The new "Improved" Spotting Dots has ruined the sim for me as I can't stand how they look. The broken OPTIONS > GAME PLAY ability to turn off these spotting dots is the biggest disappointment and the lack of acknowledgement the feature is broken by ED, especially the insulting post by @BIGNEWY that we should "read the patch notes again" signals to me that ED has no interest in listening to their customers and are one of those companies that sees them as complaining idiots. They have definitely lost sales from me as I already own most maps and most of the US aircraft and was planning on the Chinook, F-15E and Kola map. These are no longer planned purchases. I will invest my time and future in other currently available flight sims that don't have this issue and treat their customer base and developer community a bit better as I recently learned about the whole issue with RAZBAM. Throw in the entire "we have partnered with Pimax" and here is a discount code to buy one, you quickly realize the entire Spotting Dots issue and "get a Pimax and the spotting dots issue is fixed" is more than just a coincidence. Just a sad example of hubris and a developer that has lost the passion for its user base.3 points

Hello. Even I have a nice FPS counter, I noticed small lags on some servers. When opening the in game FPS counter I have this : null (60 fps is because of the VSync) After many MANY tests and researchs, I was able to able to get a smoother experience : (100 fps because I turned of VSync and limited via RivaTuner but it wasn't the issue) I finally found that on servers that hadn't Tacview installed, my Tacview tried to connect or whatever. On my server, where I had tacview installed, I have no problem. Turning this option to "record local player only" solved it on all servers. Hope this could help some of you having micro stuttering. You don’t have to be a pilot to understand what the world actually looks like nor to read all the studies about aircraft visibility that are constantly cited in these discussions. Being a RW pilot has nothing to do with this issue. And almost everyone in the world has been on an airplane and looked out the window. It’s amazing you say you couldn’t see anything before the patch and still can’t see anything after it. It’s possible you need to get an eye exam Or your VR headset is defective.3 points

Because some say it's not realistic. DCS is old game engine made it look nice but didn't develop for 2016 computer. They are hard at work making train sets and pilot body and cows and sheep . But miss the real problems or close eyes and ears and see nothing here , lol .3 points

Never? If you've been here for a while you'll know that this is the inherent nature of DCS: bugs, bugs, and more bugs; excuses, excuses and more excuses, because the module is still in early access. What is not in early access in DCS? The Sabre? The Mig-15? And are they bug-free? Absolutely not, but in those cases the excuse is that the developers are busy elsewhere, the bugs are not game breaking and they are already reported so sooner or later they will be fixed. One might have thought that the new upgrade cycle with a unified consumer version of the game would have changed things, but this was not the case. The bottom line is that if you want to play dcs, you either accept the bugs or change the game.3 points

Yes we do, forget the Air Force, the Army and the Navy and hire some coders, 3D artists, Beta testers, Support Staff able to liaise and address customers feedback, bug hunting. Forget about "and beyond", finish products now 'and they're here' to match the investment many of us have made with nearly 1000 EUR 'worth' of modules. Same. Pimax Crystal user. Can't turn the spotting dots off. I'm not wasting time on this game until this is fixed. BTW. This has been just another chain of bugs that has kept my RIO and I from getting any practice at all for about a month now. Can we please get some quality assurance from ED before pushing patches? Having game or emersion breaking bugs piled on us each patch is really making it look like ED doesn't have a single developer who has ever worked on a commercial product before.3 points

It's early access. Syria has had like 5 years of improvement. In 5 months Kola has had 4 major update with huge improvement. Kola looks really good now. And it looks good from quite low. Still needs work for it to be helo heaven like Syria or Normandy 2. The map isn't even half done when it comes to infrastructure like towns, cities and air bases. And we can continue to see improvements to textures, colours, performance etc.3 points

I think the weird part is why the change was released at all. It's just broken in VR, so why release it? Why not just hold it back until they figured it out.3 points
-
IT IS BROKEN! You can't turn them off. This is the primary issue. OPTIONS > GAMEPLAY > Improved Spotting Dots On or OFF does nothing. No, they're aren't communicating. They are repeating a PR blurb of "we are taking feedback and working on improving it". They have made NO mention of how the option is unable to be turned off which is fundamentally the issue. The people that don't want to use them CAN'T.3 points

Dogfighting my friend, a real 4th gen fighter pilot, in the Su-30. Super fun! Thanks a lot to the devs for letting me have a go at the new (early access) version of the flight model. Also, a note to the devs - please watch the last part of the video. There are some very strange FM bugs there that are hard to describe but easy to see. Hopefully they can be ironed out?3 points

The thing is that the DCS F-16C manual is 100% correct, it's just the in-game implementation that's incorrect, and it's due to a slight misunderstanding of the manuals by the DCS F-16C developers. It is 100% correct that the concentric rings correspond to the different lethalities of the detected emitters, where Ring 1 indicates search, Ring 2 indicates tracking, and Ring 3 indicates missile guidance. What this means in real life, is that if an emitter is in Ring 1, your RWR can detect it's emissions, and through threat identification, known max range of that identified threat radar, its detected signal strength, and other factors, your RWR determines that the detected emitter is so far away, that it can't see you, but you can still detect its emissions. When an emitter gets close enough to end up in Ring 2 it is within tracking range. This means that it can now actually pick you up on its radar, but you're still outside of its weapon engagement zone. Finally you have Ring 3, within which you're inside the weapons engagement zone of the detected emitter. As an emitter gets closer or further away from you, it will move gradually between these rings. This is one of the amazing features of the AN/ALR-56M, as it allows you to react extremely quickly to pop-up threats. As soon as a new emitter pops up on his RWR display, the pilot can tell, at a glance, the level of lethality that emitter poses to him. The issue with the current implementation is that every emitter which isn't locked on to you and isn't shooting at you will end up at the center of Ring 1. Its level of lethality doesn't matter, threat type doesn't matter, max track/engagement range doesn't matter, signal strength doesn't matter, it can be 1nm or 1000nm away from you; it will still show up in Ring 1. As soon as it locks on to you, it will teleport to Ring 2. Then as it fires, it will teleport to Ring 3. This makes the current AN/ALR-56M implementation in DCS quite useless as it doesn't give the pilot any useful information except bearing to threat, like an old 70's RWR. All even remotely modern RWR's (including the AN/ALR-56M) already have ways to indicate whether an emitter is locked on to you or guiding a missile towards you using various symbology and sounds, it does not need to put the emitter symbol at a specific location on the RWR to indicate these things. For comparison you can look at the AN/ALR-56C which Razbam implemented into the F-15E. Unlike the M-variant, the C-variant only shows raw distance, where the outer edge of the RWR display corresponds to 60nm. This means that the pilot has to know, in his head, at which distances certain things are lethal to him. His situational awareness from the RWR is therefore much lower because he has to calculate all of these lethality levels himself, rather than having it be supplied by the RWR. For extremely long range threats like SA-5's, S-300/400/500, etc., an F-15E pilot won't even know when he's within range until he gets locked and launched at from >60nm distance. The main development of the AN/ALR-56M is its extreme sensitivity which allows it to detect emitters at incredible distances, and give the pilot increased situational awareness via the RWR. This is why BAE Systems (company who makes the AN/ALR-56C & M), on their own website, say that the M-variant provides "Situational awareness for long-range response strategy/threat avoidance.", which is something they don't say for the C-variant, because you can't do long-range threat avoidance with an AN/ALR-56C because of the aforementioned reasons. This is why the US Air Force chose to equip the F-16CM, their premiere SEAD platform, with the AN/ALR-56M, to allow it to operate in dense high threat environments with greatly increased situational awareness and survivability. As it is in DCS currently, the F-15Es AN/ALR-56C provides the pilot way more situational awareness than the F-16Cs AN/ALR-56M, which is completely backwards of how it is in real life.3 points

After patch 2.9.8.1107, trying to disable Improved Spotting Dots no longer works in OPTIONS > GAMEPLAY > Improved Spotting Dots. When the setting it turned OFF, the "Improved Spotting Dots" still occur making it possible to see targets 40nm away with a blue box around them. Close targets are worse as they look like large black squares. Ensuring to click OK, restarting DCS, selecting different missions, restarting the PC and VR make no difference. You get the same horrible "Improved Spotting Dots" if the option in GAMEPLAY is set to OFF or ON. Please fix as soon as possible as this is horrible looking in VR. Below are images of it with it On and Off in the F/A-18 1v1 mission:2 points

What a funny sentiment. Remember that time when you accidentally let slip that you could see other players at 40nm and essentially told people to “git gud” or “git hardware” to be on your level…? But then when you were on the receiving end of a very similar advantage that other players had, it was suddenly the end of the world and it's a huge puzzle why everyone (not counting past you) don't feel the same.2 points

This is where your disconnect is. You cannot imagine anyone who doesn't think like you do. People who 'cheat' in video games are laughably pitiful, only exceeded by those who worry constantly about being an 'unwitting fool'. DCS was more fun for my group when we could tweak the spotting dots mod and write our own autostart macros and fly in MP PvP servers.2 points

It has to do with your ignorant claim that the problem is with people having bad eyesight. Setting aside that we've proven definitely what you base this claim on (the fact that you don't know how things should look, even in pancake mode) that whole non-argument falls flat when someone who has demonstrably and provable good eyesight comes along and says the issue exist and is device-dependent. It has nothing to do with their eyes. No, but VR is where the bulk of the problem currently exists and is thus of particular interest for this thread. …and DCS is infamous for going the opposite direction and ironically create very similar results: it uses no tricks, just geometry, and this causes the game to be very fun for those who benefit from this setup and who expect it to be the norm. In actuality, it's not only ridiculously unrealistic, but it is also inequitable in that their “fun” is created in direct opposition to others' fun. And they are just as entitled to theirs in this game. Because that's what it ultimately is: a game. No. They tweaked the game thanks to the many many many many comments of people who could trivially prove that the way spotting worked in DCS was fundamentally broken and unrealistic. This in spite of the comments of 3–4 people who still couldn't understand that the excessive visibility they were seeing was not universal and was not how things were supposed to look. You know very well who the other 2–3 are… Quite the opposite, actually.2 points

Well, it's my take on it reading through the various crash reports from users. Mostly users with >32GB, reports more crashes, and they go away when setting the page file to 32GB, (seems to be the sweets pot currently, 32X1024MB = 32768MB). One should think with SSDs, it would be expanded quickly enough, while it seems it doesn't. Whether that is DCS on full teat demand or Windows/system, old hardware I haven't really bothered to test. The update didn't touch anything on this. If you genuinely think you found a bug or run into a situation you think Jester should have behaved better, please send us a (working) track so we can improve it. The radar is complex, old and the pilot also plays a huge role in it. It is hard to say without seeing whats going on if a human WSO would have performed better than Jester. Cheers2 points

I see your issue. The DF-21D is a LBASBM (Land-Based Antiship Ballistic Missile). You need to place it on the shore, and either use AWACS to track targets. Or set it to attack a specific ship or group of ships.2 points

2.9 brought in new shaders and shadows and has severely screwed things up . May look nice on YouTube but reality is no one can see anything. Guns only servers are dead . Squadrons have collapsed and long time content creator's have stopped. Roll on vulkan and if you screw this up ED well I think your feel the blow . New combat simulators are coming with full VR support. No point having nice cockpit if you can't see outside .2 points

@BIGNEWY Just to confirm, dots are still disappearing or not rendering at all at times. Did a flight on ECW PG which had a ton of ground units present, so it's likely the 100 spot bug. This is going to make it difficult to give any accurate feedback while dots continue to not render properly at all times.2 points

Fear not, because both Orbx and Reflected simulations deliver products in a working state. And they put a lot of effort into it, with a serious love for detail and immersion. Pretty sure there is a bigger F-16 patch incoming, since there has been quite some activity in the bug section and even the three threads about the forgotten radar modes got merged and some TWS issues got labeled as "reported". So the bugfixes might comes as a pair with the campaign.2 points

***To use BVR AA Variant :*** 1- Without breaking Integrity check, you need to create a simple mission with Su33, just run the mission once and exit, then without quite DCS you can use the Su30 AA variants in single or multiplayer. 2- With breaking IC use FC3 all MOD fix like explained in this post :2 points
