Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to give you all an update on where I stand. I will be having back surgery the first week of Dec. Something I have been trying to avoid for the past 9 1/2 years. However, all my other options to get back pain relief have been exhausted. So this is it for me. I'm just praying for relief. So to not think about surgery so much I have been working on AI Ship mods. They include Kidd, Spruance Class destroyers, the USS Bowen, and the Thaon di Revel class frigate. I'm hoping to release the Thaon di Revel class frigate with the Italian pack before my surgery. I will be releasing them as a Beta version although I'm not happy with the textures of the FREMM class. I plan to completely redo the FREEM Class as I have been software to help with creating UVs. Anyway, that's the plan. I don't have any specific time frame to release them. I will just release them so stay tuned and thanks for your patience. Photos are below of the AI Mods I'm working on. All are still a WIP.9 points

Since a few weeks spammers are back posting a bulk of messages, clogging up the forum. If one goes through the forum manually it's mostly only one post per forum/subforum and can be easely ignored. However, if the "unread content" option is used, the entire bulk of spam messages shows up, message after message in the unread content list. This happens also when I add the spam poster to my ignore list. Members that are put in the ignore list should not show up in the unread content list adding an extra filter to all the spam messages they post.6 points

08 November 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, Two new exciting tools for DCS Core are currently in development: The Multi-Select for the Mission Editor and a more streamlined DCS Updater that is integrated into the launcher! Both are coming soon. Please read the details below. Coming to DCS, the F/A-18C Arctic Thunder campaign by Baltic Dragon will contain 10 missions that place you in the cockpit of a Finnish F/A-18C over the Kola map. In addition to providing an immersive experience that is to be expected from Baltic Dragon, it will also allow you to interact in the campaign using your stick and throttle rather than the F10 menu. Stay tuned! Time is running out to take advantage of the Pimax Crystal Light VR headset promotion. Enter DCS2024 at checkout on Pimax.com to earn 15,000 ED Miles ($15 in the DCS e-shop) with your purchase of a Crystal Light. This offer is valid until November 29th. Also make sure you sign up for the Pimax Dogfight 1v1 2024 event, running November 16-24th for some intense aerial combat and great prizes. Learn more below. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics DCS Core Development Progress Mission Editor Select Tool Coming soon to the Mission Editor is the ability to group together units, objects, trigger zones, and drawings into a larger group that can be moved as a whole using ‘click and drag’. You can also copy, paste, delete, and rotate them. This makes the process of creating missions in DCS much easier and faster, particularly when using hot keys. Planned Improvements to DCS Updater The amount of disk space required for an update will be reduced to the size of new files with no additional space for intermediate processing. This will assist those of you with little remaining disk space. Parallel unpacking and checking of large files. This aims to drastically reduce the unpacking time and the time for verification of files. Please note that the updater downloads and unpacks all new files before deleting the replaced ones to keep DCS in an operable state as long as possible and to reduce the update installation time. This allows updates to be paused or cancelled without breaking the game. For restricted disk space scenarios, it is possible to create an update mode where old files are deleted before downloading new ones. However, you will not be able to run DCS until the update is completed. With the upcoming integration of the DCS Updater into the launcher, downloading of updates in the background while running the game will be possible. F/A-18C Arctic Thunder Campaign by Baltic Dragon Coming Q4 2024 February, 2024. Finland is on the verge of joining NATO when the unthinkable happens: Russian armed forces push through the border while cruise missiles rain down on the country. Several western allies immediately join the conflict to fight alongside their Finnish brothers in arms. Baltic Dragon has created a fictional Kola map scenario based on real life events and tactics. Strap into a Finnish DCS: F/A-18C, take off from a hidden road base. Take part in study level, highly realistic missions such as CAP, CAS, SEAD and precision strikes. Follow real life procedures in unprecedented detail. Launching simultaneously, a companion F-16C Viper campaign by Reflected Simulations will be available that is woven into the same storyline. Now is an excellent time to purchase the Kola map! Experience what it would be like to fly as a fighter pilot in a large-scale air war today. Key Features: 10 immersive missions with a variety of different tasks: CAS, X-CAS, CAP, escort, pre-planned strikes, and more. An interactive intro mission that guides the player through the most important aspects of the campaign. Operations from road bases in Finland. Over 2,200 lines of dialogue with voice-overs. Custom ATC interaction for all the missions. Optional use of air-to-air refuelling or the choice to skip it. Detailed documentation, flight plans, maps, and target information available in both PDF format and from within each mission as part of the kneeboard. Pimax Crystal Light Promotional Advert Why Choose The Pimax Crystal Light? Starting from just $799, the Crystal Light offers the highest clarity available in consumer VR in a lighter and more affordable package than the original Crystal: 8.3 million pixels per eye and a 120Hz refresh rate for incredibly sharp visuals. Glass aspheric lenses with QLED panels, and local dimming provide vivid colors and deep contrasts. Inside-out tracking with 6 Degrees-of-Freedom means no need for external base stations. Foveated Rendering (static, non-eye-tracking), delivers performance gains by rendering full resolution only in the centre of your vision. Hi guys, First of all, I'd like to thank the authors for such nice mod. It's fun as hell. That being said, I decided to make and quick checklist based on the authors' notes and on the MD-500 manual. It is bellow: It is already available on OH-6A Quick Checklist file on User Files Download page. All the best, Sydy4 points

RWC, do you live in Norway? I know the USS Gerald Ford was there last year or early this year but I didn't know the USS Harry Truman was visiting as well. When I was stationed in Virginia in the 90s I saw four carriers in port at once. It's unusual but it was during the holidays.4 points

had to "acknowledge the warning" to post again but i'll gladly do that to help with mods in spite of ED's statement of "That is why we will not support it." in regards to custom weapons (Chizh's words, not mine);;;; so working on improving the Tamir interceptor code right now, i've managed to completely remove any wobble without restricting AoA https://imgur.com/a/seIX0Nd here you can see it intercepting some M270 MLRS rockets if anyone is interested i can also publish my interpretation of whatever gobbledygook those translated descriptions in the "model data" list mean3 points

The concern is not about money, at all! It can't be, as it is OPEN SOURCE, so not actually something expected to pay for. The thing is that GPLv3 Open Source license is a valid license as much as Moza's EULA or any other terms of use. Moza simply needs to release its derivative work and source code to the public and adhere to the GPLv3 license agreement. They don't even need to pay a single cent to be in legal compliance. If somebody would copy Moza's Software, they sure would fight them in court tooth and nail. The reason GPLv3 was introduced is exactly to prevent this shady practice of stealing open source code from the public, to sell it back to the public at a margin. If you caught someone who stole the books you donated to a public library (with your intent being to make them available for others to read for free). And now the thief is selling them in his "book store" to make a profit, you wouldn't exactly argue "it's just a couple hundred dollars"...or would you?3 points

As explained multiple times elsewhere, there was a bug in the elevation control logic that was fixed over the summer. The FCR was never transmitting from anywhere but the radome. The problem is that when we have explained the issue in the past, a few select community members have deliberately promulgated false narratives, for whatever reason. And after we explained what the actual issue was, many choose not to believe us. Which is rather amusing, but it is still wrong and not based in facts. Please do not turn this into a "he said/she said on Hoggit" debate when ED staff, which know what actually is happening in the code, have already clarified, yet again, what the issue was. Especially since it was resolved months ago anyway.3 points

The project is on backburner due to the recent changes that ED made regarding texture streaming, as of now i don't recommend using any 3rd party mods, DCS is just too unstable on it's own right now. I'm gonna return to in in a couple months when they fix the stability for everyone.3 points

No, that makes no sense. Don't do it, not necessary for Maps. Such optimizations work for Core and Modules because those only use a single set of textures. That's not the case for Maps. CGTC already has included both "HIGH" and "LOW" resolution packages of textures, so it makes no sense to resize anything in this mod. And same applies to all other Maps, ones that you buy for the game. Leave the terrain textures as they are and, if you need better performance and/or lower VRAM usage on your GPU, then just set "Terrain Textures" to LOW (in game options). You basically get same result by doing that as you would with "optimizing" terrain textures. Resuming, no need to optimize anything here, and CGTC should be always installed last, after such optimized textures mods (batch process or not).3 points

I don't get where you get these statistics from. Either way, I play mostly online. A decent ATC would be enjoyable for everybody, not just those who play one way over another. Even in "that" flight sim with a functioning ATC I sometimes just screw around for some "airquake" if I feel like that on that day (though that is rare). Taxiway takeoff, landing without clearance, cutting people off in the pattern, the works. And what does "their" ATC do? they have to deal with it, and they actually kind of do. If you cut them off in the pattern, they will adjust speed or abort if it can't be saved; if you incur on the runway, tower will tell them to go around, and they will. My point is that a better ATC doesn't mean you can't just not use it, ignore it, and play airquake if that is what you want. The state of DCS ATC - and comms procedures in general - is atrociously clunky, unrealistic and unhelpful - both to humans and AI, both online and offline. Having a real person doing ATC is great, but you don't always have that luxury, and more often than not they don't know what they are doing, or they are doing something else (GCI instead of ATC). And even with a dedicated controller, they can quickly become overwhelmed, managing multiple airports, and all aspects of every one of them, with AI not listening to a word of theirs. Meanwhile ED works on swapable pilot patches; something that people won't ever see except with free camera on the stand. They literally see it once, think "oh cool", and then it's inconsequential for them for the rest of their lives. And even if it were the coolest thing since wing flexing, it has no gameplay value. They promised improvements for over a decade and we got nothing at all. It's still the same as when I first started back when every module had it's own executable and if you switched you had to restart. I wanted an update on the progress. Want to know why nothing is delivered when it can be rolled out incrementally. Ground, tower, departure, approach, area, awacs are all distinct and can be implemented and released separately. we got exactly 0 of these items. Are you telling me it's so infinitely complex and complicated to do even one of those things in 10 years, when it has been proven that a bunch of volunteers with day jobs can do a very decent approximation of ATC in their free time - as a mod without the original source code? Said mod also has a solution for that problem. You get to pick what you want. Fully vectored approach, overhead break landing, or the do-whatever-you-want approach, where they just shut up and let you land - while still making sure that nobody is coming onto the runway while you are on final. Also oh god - they made you fly an approach the proper way without shortcuts. the horror. Of course ED may not do it that way, but it still can be done. This is a combat flight simulator. We won't get departure windows, we get departure times, and if we are delayed we get pushed in behind the flight the went in front of us. Of course this particular issue will have to be worked around somehow if you are in a setting where respawning is a thing (like online). As for offline missions and campaigns, this is fairly straight forward. You get slotted in some time before your departure, have some time to prepare the aircraft, and then it's go time. Or again, you can just ignore everything and just go, same as before. ATC should never say that, as someone stepping on the "unable" part would result in the pilot understanding "clear for take-off". instead they'd say "hold position" or "hold short". I disagree. Competition pushes innovation. ED might disagree and say there is no competition - which I find ludicrous. Even a book is competition for DCS, competition on how people spend their money and free time. Another modern aircraft combat flight sim much more so. Either way, at the very least it shows what is possible and can provide inspiration on how to improve or find solutions to problems by looking at how other people solved those same problems - like people not wanting to fly "pointless full procedures" all the time. DCS prides itself on it's realism, but what we have right now is neither realistic, nor helpful. In fact it is annoying and dangerous. Getting cleared to land on a runway with traffic on it, or getting yelled at "hold position" because some guy is taxing around on the other side of the airport, or struggling to ask permission to land for the 7th time on final before being responded to is bad UX and bad realism. The way it is right now is basically no ATC. if you prefer that, don't tune your radio to that frequency and just land however you please, and you get exactly the same experience - exactly the same way you experience pilot patches if you don't get in real close with the free camera. ATC should handle all aircract, player and AI, in a reasonable, realistic manner. Give us the english ICAO standard first, use that everywhere at first - yes even in a 1940s scenario in syria, because that is clearly better than the buggy mess we have now. Then add your weirdo ATCs and procedures in different languages if you care enough at that point.3 points

Please improve this. I can't understand how accurate is the Flight Model, the design and this so powerful Game Engine, and how bull<profanity> is the AI Damage Model. These guys can still fly and combat like a charm using magical tricks that is over my knowledge of physics. Thanks. EDIT: 1st has no elevator on both side, 2cd has no tail anymore.2 points

the modeling of these AI aircraft are low-quality, maybe it is time to considering some update. It doesn't have to be like F-16 or F-14, but should be somewhere near Su-34 or Su-24, it is 2024 after all, most of them are retired long time ago, even the early version of Su-30, so I assume there won't be a secrecy issue? Anyway it would be nice to have them update.2 points

@trev5150 A few chords is different to copying an entire software package. Your personal preferences/morals simply don't reflect the legal reality, and that poses a risk to buyers of the product. We are not a hive mind and you do not speak for 'we'. Everyone gets to make up their own mind whether they support this ethically and consider the legal risks to Moza.2 points

The mountains that you can see in the pictures are most often related to the border with Iran. True, they are just mountains, but part of this area will be done. It would be good to have 2-3 airports for the Iranian side as well. This will expand the simulation of conflicts to include the Iran-Iraq war, especially when the MiG-17 comes out.2 points

SP & MP both are just like many other comments stated seemingly left without polishing. I think one of the biggest drawbacks to both are server sided mod support. Just like every other game in the world, you join a server that has mods, the mods install. With the absolute lack of eastern aircraft in a FF manner some of these mods help fill a gap that seems to never talked about.. Now I know that if every server could add every single mod it would essentially hurt cash flow. But the light for future red aircraft is extremely dim. I know there are incredible complications and a rigorous checklists in order for a module to be made or considered, there has to be something other than the JF-17 (that ED seems to want to neuter) that can be implemented. Not to mention being able to implement things that the legendary @currenthill has made for this community without being a massive struggle for a MP server made for more than just a group of friends. The seemingly never going to happen aside; I think there are a ton of QOL updates the community is just itching for with no actual road map ahead.2 points

Indeed. I fly in VR so it´s easier to fly with the pilot body of course, but nevertheless when needed with just one HOTAS button press and the pilot body it´s out of my view. Non issue for me and can´t fly without the pilot body, not only for immersion but it´s useful: with a glance to my left leg i can see my charts/checklist with the not-so-new 3D kneeboard without using the kneeboard pop-up and i use a HOTAS button to change pages, works like a charm especially when need to check frequencies or flight data.2 points

nullEvery single reason you posted why not to include extremely important variant and stepping stone between 9B and 9J, when its in fact ALREADY IN FKIN GAME... is insane. Sometimes i wonder how **** people on forums can get yet always someone delivers on spectacular level. from 9E is just wider FOV 9B to actually being totally wrong, to just use SIGNIFICANTLY MORE ADVANCED 9J when it was barely used in SEA and early CW air warfare, to but hey, it was PARTIALLY used during one operation with few dozen launches from specific squardon using specific sidewinders. THE FACT STANDS.... 9J CANNOT replace 9E. Performance wise and date wise.2 points

After all, nobody wants you to restrict the pilot's freedom of movement. This is not the case with the other modules either. Only your own head should not appear at this moment. Just like with ALL other modules. So the argument is strange. Motion sickness has nothing to do with the visibility of your own head, nor does it prevent it. You could at least integrate the option of deactivating your own heads outside view for F1 view in the Apache special options. And we're only talking about the outside view of the head here. As it is implemented now, you can see the monocle twice, for example. Once on the inside of your own helmet and then again on the outside of your own head. It's like your soul leaving your body. How could you achieve this in all the other modules and not in Apache and then claim it has to be like this? For example, you also have an option whether the monocle should be rendered or not. This should also be possible for the head independently of the body? And this problem doesn't just affect VR users. It's just as annoying with TrackIR. Thank you older thread with this bug an some opinions and explanations of what is our intention2 points

As I understand MOZA on their Discord channel they are working on a solution for that. Profiles for modules without explicit FFB support are ideally handled with the option 'Telemetry FFB'. But for that you need information about the force curves respectively force gradients of the real aircraft. Those force gradients are hard to come by. From those few I am aware of, it looks like there is sometimes a breakout force to create a defined centre for the flight stick and to prevent unintentional stick movements. Further more there is usually no symmetry between the roll and pitch axis. Roughly seen the roll axis is just one half or even less of the force level of the pitch axis. But then again in landing configuration the force curve of the roll axis is artificially increased to prevent unwanted roll movements during landing caused by excessive control inputs. This is also true for many (if not all) civilian jets. This cannot be reproduced at the moment with the possibilities of the MOZA software. I think Heatblur reproduced this behaviour for the Tomcat with the built-in FFB. Soooo... ...bring us the flight control force gradients of our DCS jets and the profile development can begin!2 points

In the latest update (2.9.9.2280), F/A-18 Markpoint function is erroneously saving target elevation in METERS instead of FEET (but is still labeling it as FEET). When the markpoint is recalled, it is no longer pointing at the actual target. Occurs with both ATFLIR and Litening pod (and likely any markpoint generated from any source). e.g. Min-Vody runway actual elevation = 1050 ft. After targeting and hitting MK1, the markpoint elevation is 320 FEET. FA-18 Markpoint Elevation Bug.trk1 point
