  1. 15 November 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, Our new fog system will at last be coming to DCS in the next update! For the past three years we have worked hard on delivering a radically new fog solution that will dramatically change your level of immersion in DCS. Please read the Volumetric Weather White Paper. It’s with great pleasure that we also announce the deck crew director system for DCS Supercarrier also coming in the next update. This long awaited feature will direct player and AI aircraft from parking locations to catapults and from the landing area to a parking location. Please read the details below. We’ve also included an update from Aerges on their Mirage F1 and upcoming F-104. Aerges are making impressive progress and we can’t wait to see what you think! The F-16C Arctic Thunder Campaign by Reflected Simulations will also be available in the next update. This intense F-16C Viper campaign over the Kola map will include 10 missions and over 2,000 voice lines. Check it out below. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics New Fog Effects Enhancements The next update will feature substantial enhancements to DCS weather in particular a new state-of-the art fog and dust rendering system. This highly immersive solution, which took more than 8’500 man hours to develop, allows both automatic and manual fog generation and accounts for sensor and AI line-of-sight blocking. It is calculated with our future spherical Earth in mind and can be highly variable based on density and altitude. It supports self-shadowing, blends with clouds, and is fully animated with moving cloud banks. Scenes from the early morning and evening hours are particularly convincing and offer a surprisingly realistic atmosphere. Please do read our detailed white paper here: Volumetric Weather White Paper. New Supercarrier Plane Directors Development Report When DCS: Supercarrier was originally released, it included a rich set of deck crew and animations that mimicked the process of taxiing on to the catapult and launching. In the next update, we are delighted to announce the added feature of plane ‘directors’ (yellow shirts) who precisely marshall aircraft from their parking space to the catapult. This usually involves multiple plane directors passing control from one key position to the next ensuring precise hazard free taxiing of the aircraft to their designated catapult. After landing, the same new director system will marshall players and AI aircraft back to their designated parking location. While the process of creating this for single player was a challenging task given the myriads of ways the process can be interrupted, the multiplayer aspect was far more complex than ever contemplated given the numerous ways multiple human players on the carrier deck could “break” the system. This led to more than four times the development initially budgeted for this feature and we apologise for the delay and hope you will enjoy the experience. Regarding the CVN-74 John C. Stennis, it is available as both a free aircraft carrier and as part of the Supercarrier module. This allows the Stennis to be used by pilots that own and do not own the Supercarrier module. For now and to maintain this compatibility, deck crew will not be supported for this particular aircraft carrier. We are working on a solution to resolve this in the future. F-104 Starfighter Development Report Aerges is pleased to update you on improvements to their Mirage F1 and C-101 and progress of their F-104. Mirage F1M MFD and HUD symbology, as well as their respective avionics logic, are in an advanced state of development. Much work is being done to polish the F1 systems in addition to fixing bugs reported by our community. Attention has also been made to the C-101 in order to keep it up to date and bug free. There has been an overhaul of the code structure to allow more effective coding and feature-sharing between the F1 and the upcoming F-104. Research continues on radar picture rendering and physics improvements. The resulting technology is also expected to be used for the F-104. Coding of the F-104 flight model and general aircraft systems is complete, as well as initial flight model validation. This includes engine, hydraulics, electrics, fuel, controls, armament, and miscellaneous systems. Avionic systems and integration with the cockpit animations and inputs is currently in-progress. The F-104 external model and cockpit textures are the result of a thorough research that included laser scanning. The next step will be the creation of the set of liveries. Please check out the F1 and F-104 development progress video. F-16 Arctic Thunder Campaign by Reflected Simulations February, 2024. Finland is on the verge of joining NATO when the unthinkable happens: Russian armed forces cross the frontier into Finland accompanied with massive air strikes. 4. Overall it's starting to more look like a full paid module in good quality! It would also be nice to be able to fire the M4 using the mouse, something like in the PC OH-58D but maybe you need the full SDK from ED for this for payware modules. It may not be popular what I say , but if the "Little Bird" mod had full functionality like paid add-ons I would not mind if it was an official add-on for DCS, even a paid one. You know perfectly well how much time does it take to create it! If it had all the features related to interactivity it would be great, and the author deserves financial support. It is all the more visible that VC has started to look no worse than in paid add-ons currently in AH-6/MH-6 and in addition the character models are really well done! In the case of a paid version, the rotor animation would definitely need some improvement; here it seems quite good, but there is no characteristic of "blur" as in the case of the AH-64D or OH-58D, which is in the full SDK. Congratulations! @Eight Ball

  5. The Civil Aircraft Mod has a detailed DC-10. The USAF used the DC-10 as a Tanker and a Transport Aircraft. I had a friend who made me an RAF and two custom USAF liveries. They look amazing. If you are interested, I'm willing to share my custom liveries with you. Timex 3

  6. DCS is the best simulator and there is no other that can compete with it. I will buy the F-104 on the first day! Thank You ED!

  7. I just thought about that too. The community itself can repay the creators in this way while not blocking access to such a good add-on for fans of this helicopter.

  8. Negative sir, YOU HAVE to trim it at every power change. And, finally, you have to prove that DCS P-51 or any other prop plane have very different trim curves from the curves that were recorded for the real plane. And only these graphs give adequate information, how it should be.

  9. Speaking of good time! We are close to releasing our Dynamic Vietnam Mission. Really been working on getting the FARPs looking more like the time period with the VAP pack. Hope their are more Vietnam assets in the future. We will add them for sure. This NEVER gets old. We are in trouble when the Little Bird gets released. A lot of Afghanistan and Iraq content coming with it and the Blackhawk mod.

  10. This is better than a paid module in my book. It’s maintained properly. First off, it’s conceived and built with a passion to create and in the knowledge that they may never earn a penny from it. It’s a gift to the whole community and for those that can afford to there’s a way to repay Tobi & Eightball for all the work they’ve put into it. - So do . The first few glimpses we had of it were impressive and it’s just grown better and better all the time. I could barely fly choppers when this was released and I wrecked hundreds learning to fly it, enjoying every minute. It’s a blast to fly, loads of fun, looks great and like I already said, comes from a good place. Not only that, it comes with an assets pack that’s great too. It puts ED to shame, their devs must be green with envy. The only negative things I can think of about it are caused by EDs restrictions for mod-makers. I can’t praise it enough and out of everything I have for DCS nothing else gives me a warmer smile, I proper love it. And… It’s getting better. We’re getting a ‘sister ship’ and ooh mama look at it already. Those screenshots look every bit as good as anything I’ve paid for. Well done lads, for what we have already and for what we are about to receive, may the heli make us truly grateful .

  13. Unfortunately, most of these will likely never happen in the lifetime of this game. In another thread ATC was already commented that it is low priority, very complex, and be patient. I can only assume if ATC is so complicated as it cannot be improved from what it was in 10 years it is never happening. Same holds true for the supercarrier ATC, it is what it is with no real improvements on the horizon. The only hope I have is somehow a talented modder will create a mod to simulate ATC for both land bases and aircraft carriers.

  14. You assume that this money will go back into sims. It doesn't necessarily have to. It might go into other games or even other means of entertainment and fulfillment. My larger point is that DCS' position is a little more tenuous than we'd like to believe.

  15. Else where .. only problem is that there is no where else to go ... at least I have not been able to find any better than DCS, even with its issues, and I've tried several well known sims that I can't really mention here.

  16. Thanks, Rich, I will do just that. Thanks. I have sent the Italian Pack out for testing. Once testing is complete I will release the Italian Mods. I've hung on to them too long now. Thanks for your patience.

  17. Thanks, Slippa, my mods aren't up to ED standards. It's ok I like being independent as do most modders for DCS. So I'm sure you can relate to what I'm going through. Hey RWC. Nice, I'm sure it will be routine for the US Carriers to make pit stops in Oslo. Norway looks like a beautiful country. Just FYI, I have the Nansen and De Zeven Provinciën-class frigate in my collection as well. Timex3, no I'm still working on the USS Bowen. It's a complete rebuild of the old one. Two versions. Thanks DJOGOO77. I'm happy to hear that. I will finish what I started including the Cavour. I haven't forgotten about her. I'm packing the Italian mods for release later this week. Bbtbmb, thanks I appreciate that. It helps. I want to thank you all for the motivation and support guys it's something I don't have a lot of these days but I will be ok. It'll take time but I will get through It. I had to step back and look at how I create mods. Instead of trying to create the ship mods all at once in a few days like I used to. I will work on them in stages. Stage 1 creating UVs for the mod and texturing in Substance Painter. Stage 2 exporting the mesh, and textures from SP and texturing the mod. Stage 2 may require rework of the textures so it will take some time. Stage 3 is animating and coding all the weapons, props & radars. Coding requires a good eye because a letter, comma or period misplaced will cause problems. Stage 4 is testing the mods in DCS. This is the longest stage because it requires you to log into and out of DCS. This is how I create mods but others may work on them differently. I'm sure it's similar to how ED creates mods but of course, they have a team of guys to work on them. Thanks again, everyone. I have to get back to work. You all will have your hands on the Italian Mods Pack Beta this week. I will completely rework the FREMM Frigates and re-texture them. For some reason, they didn't turn out right. Thank you all for your patience. Stay tuned.

  21. Will the new plane director feature "recognize" the Tomcat as well, or has it been calibrated solely for the Hornet? I ask because there still seem to be compatibility issues with the F-14 regarding certain SC features (LSO call-outs, IFLOLS*). Just so I can manage my expectations. *or has the IFLOLS been fixed in the meantime? I seem to have read - around July (?) of this year - that ED was in the process of addressing that issue, so maybe it has been fixed (I'm on somewhat of a DCS break right now)

  22. It's hard to buy that they have the best picture when certain minor fixes take literal years to get published. Sure, it's great we're getting fixes and updates, but that doesn't excuse the situation a lot of modules are in. Again, I'm abstaining from ED's piston offerings as a result of this prioritization. I feel like my interest and purchase are always going to be secondary with those.

Смотрите обзорное видео F1 and F- 104 development progress. 26. Correct, the project managers are the best people to decide what work gets done and when, they have the full picture, they know their budgets, they can plan work efficiently based on what work is going on at the time with any project. We get that some of you here have particular bugs or things you are not happy with and I am sorry that our teams priorities wont always match what you want, but as mentioned before we do fix issues, we are working on the core of DCS and we are delivering content when it is ready. thank you

  29. Can't say much about the Sabre, 'cause I haven't flown it in a long time, but Mustang for example, with its half broken radiator switches (not spring loaded anymore), broken control stick lock, permanently enabled cockpit lights at cold start (which doesn't make sense on bright daylight), broken oil dilution and recently broken main wheels animation has been clearly deteriorating slowly. 3 first mentioned issues have been with us for 5-ish years at least. Granted, one could say they're not critical because the plane can still takeoff, fly, blow sh..t up, return and land so minimal functionality in combat sim is still there allright, but the fact is module features which worked correctly in DCS 1.2-2.2 era, albeit not major ones, have been broken and effectively abandoned. After many years I finally stopped bothering with making or bumping bug reports because I don't see the point anymore if they tend to be ignored anyway, or noticed and pushed further by NL only every few months or so. I'm talking about warbirds mostly, as they're majority of purchased modules in my virtual hangar. Maybe F-16 / F-18 /AH-64 or other "flagship" customers are more lucky.

  31. Had a 20 minute play about today and changed a few things in the info box down on the bottom right corner. Nothing wrong with it, I just like changing stuff to how I like if I can Anyway this is what mine looks like now, only small adjustments to colouring and size. Text and Box Colouring [changed the RGB and Alpha] [Line 11] changed to 20,20,20,120 so made the upper text more of a dark grey colour. Dropped the transparency to 120 [original was 220,220,160,255] [Line 12] changed to 107,154,191,190 so made the lower text more of a pastel blue colour, might change it to pastel orange [original was 220,220,0,255] [Line 13] changed to 237,253,255,80 so the background is almost totally transparent [original was 30,30,30,100] Box Dimensions [Line 20] decreased to 0.131 so the height of the box is a tiny bit smaller [original was 0.135] [Line 21] decreased to 0.75 so the width is slightly smaller [original was 0.8] Column Sizes [Line 24] decreased to 0.29 to make Column 2 marginally smaller [original was 0.3] [Line 25] decreased to 0.57 to make Column 3 marginally smaller [original was 0.6] This is just a sample of what it came out like compared to the original If anyone wants the files as above I've included the two "lua" files I have edited, I have marked what I done with [TK]. If you just want the controls use ControlsIndicator_page.lua and if you just want the info box use GunnerGui_page.lua, if you want both then replace both files and can change the colours to what you want. The settings should be universal and should display where it is regardless of resolution. Make sure you back up the originals: ControlsIndicator_page.lua is in: Saved Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft\OH-6A\Cockpit\Scripts\ControlsIndicator GunnerGui_page.lua is in: Saved Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft\OH-6A\Cockpit\Scripts\GunnerGui ControlsIndicator_page.luaGunnerGui_page.lua

  38. The Su-27 in DCS and in real life has a helmet mounted sight and you can fire your Archer IR missiles high off boresight in a dogfight. The F-14 has only Aim-9Ms and no helmet sight, so in a dogfight the Su-27 has a huge advantage. In the BVR environment the F-14 is much better than the su 27 because of the active radar homing Fox 3 Phoenix missiles. The Su-27 in DCS has only fox1 missiles. So in BVR the F-14 has a huge advantage. If you use BVR tactics to fight a su-27 , you will win in a F-14 in DCS. In a dogfight with an Su-27 pilot , who knows his plane and systems, you are often dead before you completed the first turn, because of the helmet mounted sight and high off boresight missiles of the Su27

  39. Yes. Walmis sells the motors and logic board that work with the Rhino software as Kits (VPforce.eu) and there are DIY projects for all kinds of devices based in them. I made a mounting solution for the Crosswinds. @kaltokri is selling Kits based on my design, but you can also go to the project page in the VP discord and find the files and instructions for 3D printing and building it on your own.

  40. You’re fighting his fight, not yours. Use the F-14’s strengths to capitalise on your opponent’s shortcomings. Where the F-14 could be inferior to your opponent is territory you should avoid if at all possible. Always fight YOUR fight - not his . . .

  41. At present my hopeful and optimistic view is that some things are getting dated because ED is focusing significant resources on major tasks at the moment (Vulkan, Multithreading, and the Dynamic Campaign Engine). Once more of these are completed, I'm hoping it means that it will free up a significant number of devs and resources and we'll see the floodgates open where these other things we desire will start to get more attention in a significant way. However... ^^^ this. I can understand working modules (even if old) not getting updated at the moment. (I love the UH-1, and would love to see it updated). But I can use the UH-1 as it currently is. It's bugs that are introduced with updates, that aren't looked at or addressed for years that has sapped most of my enthusiasm away from DCS. I've seen our community shrink from a core group of 15 strong, (not including others who pop in from time to time) dwindle down to 3 people being semi-regular - and it's largely due to being sick of dealing with various bugs over an extended period of time. I'm really hoping my personal observation isn't reflective of the wider community, but seeing video's like this come out, comments on ED's youtube trailer video's, etc gives me the impression we're not alone. I can wait for older models to be enhanced to more modern standards if my optimistic views above reflect reality. However I have concern that the community is going to remain as strong between now and then if bugs that are introduced aren't addressed with more urgency. I feel for everyone involved. The creators have developed an incredible simulator - beyond what I could have ever have hoped to be flying. Something to be real proud of. I can't imagine the ongoing countless hours, effort, and passion that has gone into creating what is. For this to be so undermined because somewhere in the mix, someone is deciding that bugs aren't as big of a priority as they should be and can wait years to be addressed - or not realizing the true impact they're having on a community is a real letdown not only for customers, but also for everyone else involved in the development of DCS. That being said - I should also note that the last 2 updates have been significant patch fixes - and this needs to be recognized. Maybe there is a shift changing within ED? I also see in the latest HIP video that we've got drag and drop coming to the Mission Editor, as well as an option for the updater for those who are limited with drive storage. Maybe ED is beginning to listen to the community a bit more? It's important to give credit where credit is due. So, I am watching with anticipation with the next few release cycles to see how other outstanding bugs are being addressed, and if we are seeing the beginning of a shift in ED's priorities, or whether this was more of an exception to the rule.

  42. It's really feeling that way. And, as these issues mount because ED doesn't want to listen? My money will go else where. Simple as, I have no real loyalty to DCS or ED. We really need to be encouraging new players to use free trials with gusto since it's honestly a fantastic program.

  43. The new AI assistant has just been made public and can be used to search DCS related topics and questions. It takes information from our website and manuals and has been tested internally for a while now. It is pretty good if you ask specific questions, but it is still learning. thank you
