  2. Thanks for your kind words! I shared them with the team over at discord as well and they are well appreciated Meantime we've put together a first release candidate for Vietnam War Vessels 0.9.0. The zip is a massive 2GB download already, unpacked it will impact your disk with ~8GB. So the mod is still growing, thanks to the various contributors: RA-5C Vigilante initial release MiG-21MF "Fishbed-J" initial release DD-692 Allen M Sumner initial release DD-724 Laffey initial release Unless we find critical bugs in the mod, we will push this out next week before Christmas! 3. I honestly don't understand the tone of this response. This person claims to be a German Air Force member currently working in Iraq, and has provided an earnest and relevant appraisal of the recently released DCS Iraq map. Your response comes across as inordinately pithy and adds no real value to the discussion, and I'd encourage you to reflect on the purpose for writing it. This community thrives when we allow room for robust discussion and while rebuttal and counter commentary is important, it seems awfulyl apparent to me that this response falls far short of that. That aside, as someone else who has spent a significant part of his working life in Iraq, I am absolutely thrilled at the quality of this map, and feel that Ed has done a wonderful job in putting this together. It's hard to read the constant online criticism of DCS at times, but looking at how far this community has evolved from the early days until now is marvelous! It's getting to the point where I'd even welcome some non-combat fixed and rotary wing assets to simply enjoy the views flying around parts of the world that are so well modelled, but that we have so much variety in this sandbox is fantastic. Great work Ed! Looking forward to the future of DCS.

  4. ED, I’m sure a lot of people would love it if you created a n optional MiG-29A 9.12S with the newer C-101/102 computer for R-77 use and 14% more range, along with 2 degree more AOA. That way you wouldn’t have to make a new cockpit and external model like you would for 9.13S, a just a few files changes for loadout/radar/flight control

  7. Oh my goodness. This has been the longest wait for the last jigsaw peice to arrive. A type 42....I'm kindda overcome, I was organising my Falklands mission for tonight and you released this a few hours before. I'm so greatly thankful of folks like you and all the people in this community who continue to keep these dreams alive. On behalf of so many people, thank you Sir, for your efforts towards this. You win the awesome award for this week. Thank you!

  10. 13 December 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, This week we released the highly anticipated Iraq map into early access. This is a great addition to DCS and represents one of the most important combat theaters of the late-20th and early 21st centuries. The Iraq map captures the rich history, diverse geography, and pivotal battlefields of the region. The focus of this initial, Northern region, is provided to support missions and campaigns mainly pertaining to the Global War on Terror and ISIS. Later, the Southern region will be added to support Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Watch the Iraq launch trailer! In parallel to Iraq map development, our separate Afghanistan map team has been working hard on updating and improving Afghanistan Southwest and adding the new Eastern region. Based on your feedback and lessons learned from the Southwest region, we have enhanced and polished ground textures, improved vector data on and around airfields, re-detailed taxiways and logistics scenes, and provided more advanced surface normal mapping. Additionally, many unique 3D models for Kabul and updated crash models for static and civilian vehicles are being implemented to increase immersion. Please check out the details below. The release of the Iraq map is part of an intermediate DCS Update created primarily for the new map. However, there are many additional stability and quality improvements across multiple modules. For DCS Core, VR controller issues and resource synchronisation bugs have been fixed. The CH-47F’s multi-crew engine shutdown issue has been resolved, and the Supercarrier no longer launches flares when players attempt unauthorized landings. The Mirage F1 has received numerous avionics, cockpit, lighting, radar, and payload enhancements to add and improve realism. The C-101 Aviojet benefited from upgraded bomb model textures. Please read the full changelog. Our massive DCS Winter Sale 2024 is now live until the 6th of January 2025. Don’t miss the perfect opportunity to expand your collection and make this holiday season one to remember! With up to 50% across all our most popular modules, we are confident you'll find something to warm you up this winter. Check the Winter Sale video. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Iraq Out Now The early access launch of DCS: Iraq covers Central and Northern Iraq. This map uses our latest map technology with improved normal mapping, better vegetation, and many interesting Points of Interest (POI) to provide a highly-realistic and engaging feeling of flight. Work will continue in the early access period to include improved roads, the inclusion of H2, H3, Al-Kut and Mosul airfields, more POIs, and tuning of view distances and airfields. Further expansions will grant you access to the Iraq Southern region, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia. Just like other DCS maps, we offer the DCS: Iraq as a complete map that will be updated throughout the early access period. However, if you are only interested in a particular region or on a budget, you can decide to simply purchase the northern Iraq region in high-detail. The choice is yours. Modular Options DCS: North Iraq ($39.99): Perfect for those focused on the heart of Iraq’s northern conflicts like the Global War on Terror and ISIS. DCS: Iraq ($59.99 early access price with 20% off). This is the ultimate package, combining North and South Iraq plus a large neighbouring areas for a complete experience. DCS: South Iraq ($39.99): Immerse yourself in the oil fields, marshlands, and Gulf War theaters. This region is not currently available for purchase and will be coming in Q2 2025 or earlier. DCS Update Development Progress Despite this week’s update being intermediate in nature, provided primarily for the launch of DCS: Iraq map, we and our 3rd party partners were able to include some valuable additional items into the build: DCS - Core Several core engine fixes to improve stability and gameplay. The resource managers now synchronize dynamically changed warehouse resources for new clients. In VR, controllers no longer disappear after selecting the VR settings tab. DCS: CH-47F by Eagle Dynamics A critical fix addresses engine shutdown issues when a second crew member joins a hot-started helicopter, ensuring smoother multi-crew operations. Work continues on new autopilot functions. DCS: Supercarrier by Eagle Dynamics Player attempts to land without clearance no longer trigger unwanted flare launches from the carrier, removing an immersion-breaking behavior. We strongly recommend contacting ATC first and following landing instructions to avoid deck crew instruction issues. DCS Mirage F1 by Aerges Multiple avionics and systems improvements enhance realism and reliability. Navigation, formation, and landing lights are now more accurate, along with radar rendering fixes and improved radio behavior. The Belouga BLG66 bomb and other payload options have been standardized. Various cockpit animations, indicator flags, and instrument behaviors have been corrected, leading to a more authentic flight experience. DCS: C-101 Aviojet by AvioDev The visual quality of several bomb models, including BLG66 and BR-series bombs, has been improved for better overall realism. Campaigns Campaign improvements include added subtitles to radio communications, updated AI to the latest standards, corrected mission behaviors, and refined briefing instructions. These changes enhance narrative clarity, mission flow, and the overall player experience in several Huey and F-16C campaigns. For a detailed list of all the changes, please read the full changelog. East Afghanistan Development Update Report We are committed to delivering the Afghanistan East project into Early Access in the nearest future, and to ensuring that it meets the expected quality standards. Our primary focus is currently centered on creating essential airfields and ensuring they operate seamlessly. We are also carefully refining and enriching the areas surrounding these sites to minimize any need for later adjustments after the initial release. Beyond the airfields, we are enhancing existing models and introducing new, unique ones to more closely reflect the local real-world environment. This includes the addition of various infrastructure elements such as fuel stations, administrative buildings, and cultural or religious landmarks. Simultaneously, we are developing a detailed, non-destructive road network across Afghanistan. We are also significantly expanding the map’s overall data, incorporating an unprecedented number of settlements, agricultural areas, and industrial zones. This surpasses any previous DCS map in terms of scope and density. On the technical front, we are improving ground textures and employing new algorithms to create more detailed normal maps. These refinements will bring greater visual depth and realism to the terrain. As we prepare to release the second part of the Afghanistan map, the entire project will benefit from an expanded main map area, albeit at a lower fidelity, to support aircraft carrier operations, catering to you, our most dedicated enthusiasts. Optimization efforts are ongoing, and we appreciate your understanding during the Early Access phase. Many planned features for the Afghanistan theater remain in development and will be introduced in future updates during the polishing stage. Completing all planned elements of the Afghanistan project represents a significant undertaking, both in terms of workload and time. Winter Sale Holiday Savings! 12. Anyone had a look down south yet? I had a bit of a fly over Kuwait last night, and while there are no buildings, there is a surprising amount of visible detail on the textures, and the terrain mesh seems complete. Almost like one could just plonk down some target units and start flying some DS missions...

  15. This map has great potential to recreate the famous Air battles, deep strikes and naval strikes of the Iran-Iraq war. TFB.4 Dezful TFB.5 Omidihyeh TFB.6 Busher Would all be in the detailed areas of the map(s). Esfahan as an important base is only in the low res area, maybe a simplified version might be possible? But even just TFBs 4, 5 and 6 would add a whole new dimension for the map and provide a natural playground for the F-4, F-5 and F-14. Please consider adding these. Thanks.

  16. As of now the only reaction to contact option we have is "Disperse under fire" If we can get a couple more options to reacting to contact can we get the herringbone and coil formation. As these are security formations which the vehicles break off and provide security while providing overlapping zone coverage for each other's sectors. As of now the units only option is to disperse, which just has them scatter out for a determined time. I understand this is mainly for traveling on a road but with the current ground mapping/guiding logic traveling on the road is a popular option. A link with a basic description for those that might not know. https://unitedtaskforce.net/training/sop/cavalry/convoy-halts-and-herringbones

  17. its still here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x3zAfjZDFRXWOcGfG7NOWu5_0rqKsIjH?usp=sharing Just as a note though: Only use 1 radar per unit group! ED, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the Radar determines how many missiles should be launched instead of the command post. maybe i'll make a wishlist entry for fixing this as its not a bug and clearly intended...

  18. I'm holding off for a bit. Mountains looks really cool though! My main critique reg. DLC maps is that they are a complete pain to set up properly. Creating functioning borders between countries (that can spawn intercept flights), civilian air traffic, a functioning SAM network etc. is a monumental task in the Mission Editor. DCS World is a combat simulator and maps should be released with some sorts of pre-built templates or a UI in the Mission Editor to easier set up a "framework" to build missions upon. At the end of the day, these new big empty maps offer little over Caucasus except better looks. More integrated functionality would make it a more interesting purchase from a customer standpoint.

  20. As maestro has already stated in this thread. The amraam is the only one directly effected by this because it's the only missile on the new API (besides the PL-12) Said new API seems to simulate almost every possible source of noise in the missile. It eventually adds up. - slight imperfections in the fin servo's that create inaccuracies in the readout of the position of the fin or in executing those commands (over/under deflects) - imperfections in the seeker gimbal servo's for the same reasons - inaccuracies from the seeker for any number of reasons like the range resolution, imperfection of monopulse's angle measurement, digital signal processing lags, automatic tracking lags like the range gate loops. There's a ton here that could contribute, we'd be here a while if i listed every one of them. - scintillation or otherwise known as glint phenomena that can radomly cause the seeker to think the target has suddenly moved 200 feet to the left from one pulse to the next. The Kalman filters that maestro mentions are there to smooth all of those noises out before it sends the final control inputs through the guidance autopilot. But those filters can also introduce their own lags depending on how its tuned and what weights it's given. It can be made super stable and resistant to noise but then it's sluggish to react to the target's true movements when they are rapid. Or it could be made more reactive but then those noise's have more effect. For better or worse the new API is what it is. It's excrutiatingly detailed in every possible way you can and can't think of. Like maestro has repeated it's not as simple as adjusting the kalman filter and the problem is gone entirely. And we'll just have to take his word for it that it'll never be. I think hobel and others are right that the proximity fusing is where the focus should be at. I for one don't understand why the proximity distance has to be so rigidly within the 100% kill radius of the warhead. A zero radial velocity trigger if the missile passes within a certain extended miss distance would be enough to at least cause some damage.

  22. Yup - one picture from 200 ft in the mountains and one from the wilderness flatlands would go a long way. Given this was the cause of a lot of the dissappointment, I figured ED may have been keen to show progress in that regard.

  25. I can feel the pain. I think the Apache flies pretty well overall, except for the yaw control, which is caused by excessive main rotor torque. This issue has been brought up repeatedly for quite some time, but no fix has been implemented. I'm not sure if this excessive main rotor torque issue also contributes to the erratic behavior of the yaw SAS servo at low speeds sometimes, but it's been two years since the Apache was released. It's disappointing that such a significant issue has been left unresolved for so long. (I know this thread is about Apache, but it took ED 6 years to update the flight model and FCS in F18C, which was released in 2018... )

  29. most of Iran airbases are in the that red zone. not just Dezful, Omidiye, Esfahan, Bushehr but also Tehran, Kermanshah, Hamedan, and a little bit to the north Tabriz. Iraq Iraq War in case of scale and duration is not comparable with those short wars like desert storm or Iraqi Freedom or fighting with ISIS that had Toyota. it lasted for 8 years (near 3000 days) and was a full scale classic war between Iran and Iraq Armies in the air, land and sea. everything happened in that war. i can not describe all of those things in a few sentences but i just tell you one thing, in case of air wars near 400 fighter jets of both countries shot down and near half this number damaged. this war was completely ignored in the Iraq map Description and FAQ topic which is very disappointing. i hoped that creators and the company had better knowledge about it. i wish ED expand the map to the east and add Iran and its airfields.

  30. With the release of the Iraq map, it looks like we have mapped out a good chunk of the area between Egypt and parts of Iran. As DCS now has some code that enables developers to split a map into different regions and gives users the option to fly a low-resolution version of a sub-map they don't have, it would be nice to have a Mideast Map that is built from the Sinai, Syria, Iraq, and Persian Gulf Maps. I know different developers are working on the different maps I don't know enough about the contracts to know if that would be an issue. I could understand there might be technical limits as the combined middle east map would be huge. Although those issues aside it would be cool to have a single map that combines all the Mid-East maps.

  31. Just played it through. This campaign is really well made, and I couldn't find one single bug like an event that won't trigger or a unit which is supposed to be at pos X is not showing up/etc. The kneeboard info is clear and very well thought through and along with the voice lines you'll always know what to to do (and what NOT to do). The missions are varied and plausible, and fun! You'll fly both slick and gunship. Any DCS pilot who loves his Huey should absolutely play this campaign. Some very important words are said at the epilogue. I won't spoil it, and let you read/hear it once you get there. A solid 10/10

  32. Time for an update. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a working script to automatically trace all rivers (that one doesn't work at all). This means I have to draw 100% of rivers by hand, and it's a very long process. I've just finished Cyprus and the western part of Turkey. It's only the beginning... and my current map is based on the early 2024 version of the Syria terrain. Below: red = done

  34. I did the cold start and waited for the two MiGs to taxi past. FPS stayed solid 90 and CPU went from 5.8ms to 6.9ms, no change in GPU frame time. Good luck with the reinstall. I run with Turbo off, though I have tried it both ways with no perceptible change. And yes, I only fly in VR. I encountered the severe stuttering on the Iraq map on a long flight from Kirkuk to Mosul, then east over the Iraq/Iran border mountains, then back to Kirkuk. The worst stuttering was over the mountains. I did the same flight last night after the changes (above) and no stuttering at all. Finally, I run a 4k monitor as primary and a 1440 as second monitor. After the last firmware update (PCL headset), I could not get Pimax Play to recognize my headset. I also encountered the mouse bug for the first time. After some advice from Pimax and a lot of experimenting I solved it by making the 1440 primary monitor and leaving the 4k off when I boot up. Something about a conflict with a high resolution display and Pimax. No problems since (fingers crossed).

  35. ...yeah, some of that is very reasonable and would be very nice. But I will reiterate that this is a very good map. The more I fly it the more I like it. Get the lighting and the weather right, fly up in the mountains, and it's gorgeous! First class flightsim eye candy.

  36. Because good always requires time. Anyone can do bad quickly. Good means care. And care takes time. And time is precious. That being said I think that providing a couple of nice, "inspirational" missions with a map could do wonders for the community to help their mission creators to get their creative juices flowing. Such a 'instigator' map could highlight the interesting parts of a map - because finding a good, interesting place for a mission takes a *lot* of time, and the map creators could help their map become more popular if there were more missions available.

  37. I think youre remembering stuff incorrectly. There has been no change to the spi system in the last patch, or even the last few ones. 38. @Lord Vader I understand what you're saying which is indeed logic. But I'd like to know from an operational point of view how the mechanisation of what you explain is efficient from a SEAD pilot perspective.... in DCS Starting a SEAD mission, we don't know where the mobile or hidden SAMs are. And that's expected. We love that So I understand that the SAM rings are not accurately placed. Matter of fact they are not placed at all since we do not have DTC allowing us to place PPT, Lines and SAM rings on the HSD But When a guy locates an emitter with the HTS pod He doesn't get the SAM threat rings. But if he sends that emitter through the network to his wingmen, then these guys have the SAM threat rings For the guy having sent the position of the emitter to have the SAM threat ring, a wingman who has received the data through the network has to send it again to the original guy. Then the original guy gets the SAM rings in his aircraft. Or is there something I didn't get? Realistically thinking, and with the danger of SEAD business, Do you guys really think it's been planned like that in the real F-16? It seems very dangerous, quite unefficient and way too long to avoid being shot down. Food for thoughts .

  40. Just going to start DCS and try the map out. I have been vocal in my criticism of other maps where it is due and its not been taken well by some people, but credit where it is due and hopefully, ED will carry on listening to peoples concerns and implementing improvements based on these concerns, as that way, you get happy customers. I have been saying for years how the terrain needs better mesh for increased realism and finally, its here. Its nice to feel listened to....instead of feeling like your opinions dont matter to people you have supported for many years. Well done on this release ED and hopefully the rest comes soon, so we can park a carrier battle group on the ocean. Hopefully, it wont be long before we get some campaigns and missions released for the map

Tested using DCS 2.9.10.4160 IIRC it does if the REDFOR coalition doesn't already include a nation (USA, etc. ?) that uses western (NATO ?) GPS. Either way "unrestrictedSATNAV = false" is the reason YoYo's NS430 isn't working in his Mi-8.

  43. Bist Du Dir sicher dass keine Achsen doppelt belegt sind? Dann passiert nämlich genau so etwas. Lösche auch die Belegungen in "Generell" denn da sind oft auch Achsen belegt wenn was angeschlossen wird.

  46. I'd agree that ED's biggest problem at times appears to be the lack of focus. I think the DCS community might be partially to blame for that. Collectivly we've got a thousand different wish lists and sometimes out priorities change. Some of that is just the nature of the sim. I don't think a subscription model could fix that, in fact, I could see it making things worse. If DCS goes completely subscription there are people who would stop using it, if it is an optional subscription then DCS would need to make it worth the price. Even if they had the optional subscription model, there is the issue of whether ED can determine the community's priorities. I don't see ED abandoning EA. I'm fine with EA as the alternative to EA is to not have modules.

  47. Those are the same people who have probably never heard of beer. I don't see how anyone could be a DCS flyer for more than a few weeks and not get into the ME at least a little bit. Pick your map, your plane, some weather, plop a ZSU-23 on the ground, and within 60 seconds you have a mission. Or just set up free flights or takeoff and landing practice. It's great stuff and super easy. Flying DCS and never using the ME is like living by a lake and never going for a swim.
