  1. I don't think you can talk about leaving quickly here. I was thinking about for several month now. I have put a lot of my free time into these topics for more than 5 years. I have written an exporter that has made many other mods possible, I have helped with many mods and even if it was only small things and there is still a complete helicopter with good quality for a piece of software given as a gift, which does not get any new features for the time being but is still maintained. I think that's more than one should ask for. I can at least say that I can go into modding retirement with a clear conscience.

  4. Many thanks Guys - I will update the Mod and create a new link. Updated original with new link on page 1. Here is a quick fix to save all that work - replace the edm and liveries with these, let them overwrite the older files. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/sl9pxt21vhs65llbnpxpg/CrazyEddies-HEMTT-Livery-fix-5-March-25.zip?rlkey=iyrhl5kevnmstpbzwq3c1h8xp&st=9i82pahp&dl=0

Thanks for giving us what you have already, tea and medals for the pair of ya. You’ve done absolute wonders, be proud. Thank you.

  8. Hiya folks been working hard on getting the k4 cockpit up to par as much as humanly possible with obvious constraints and limitations of this old DCS bird but I am pleased to give you proper cockpit mod. Here's what I've done Every texture was upscaled to 4k, then every single line, scratch, wood grain, edge was refined to 4k standard giving a much sharper image. Colors were corrected to historical late war RLM 66, with aid of research and AI. In game shade and direct sunlight were cross referenced for honing in proper lightness and hue Revi 16b Gunsight changed to more plausible black configuration along with historically accurate base mounting plate and mounting bracket being in the correct color configuration Cockpit floor was basically redone from scratch. Panels, rivits, dirt, oil, wear and tear were added carefully cross referencing historical photos Please keep in mind this is what I produced with the most available data and a super smart robot that talks to me. It was not uncommon for pilots and crew to modify parts and use paints to their liking which is why you almost never find a 109 cockpit that looks the same even if its the same variant. Obviously being 4k the file is too large to upload to the user files section of the DCS website so here's a download link...... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BbPf3NWLRkW50KoQ27-7Up6i8hiKHFgS/view?usp=sharing Please note i have corrected the flare gun since these screenshots

  9. My 5080 arrived today and is now installed, having replaced a 3080Ti. The rest of the PC includes a 7800x3d, 64GB ram, PCIE5 SSD. My VR headset is an Oculus Pro, which does have eye tracking. As such, I'm using that rather awesome Quad Views from Mbuchia, which most certainly does help. My drivers are 572.16, using the latest DLSS (K?). The DLSS setting is for quality upsampling and DLAA AA. The hope was to achieve an FPS of 72, which is the native frame rate for the Oculus Pro, and in short, with the 5080, it nearly consistently hits it. Settings included: High Textures High scenery textures Ultra Clouds (lower settings look a real mess with DLSS upsampling) scenery detail, forests around 80% across Flat shadows In the Oculus, I have the "Home" disabled, and in DCS, I have the empty hangar, both of which save VRAM space. I tried a variety of aircraft including the Viggen, Harrier, F4, F18, Apache and Chinook (not the mod). For terrains, I used Kola, Afghanistan and Falklands. With most of the aircraft/terrain combinations, the GPU was running between 60-80% usage, even after upping the up-sampling in Quad Views to x1.5. The frame did visibly bounce around a little, but in most combos, it was very smooth. VRAM usage was around 14GB+, so not much headroom. The positive news was that with nearly every combo, once the shaders were built for all but the "odd" new texture, that the blips barely registered whilst it was loading. My guess is that maybe data bus all being at PCIE5 "might" helped. The caveats being: Add the Chinook showed up the implications of only 16GB of VRAM, which resulted in an absolute tanking of frame rate, whilst DCS was dragging in what are clearly "fairly large" textures for the aircraft. As that was the only aircraft that I experienced issues with (and that was on the SA map), that's fairly positive. Is it enough to justify the additional spondoolies for a 5090, well that's not for me to answer This was single player. Haven't tried multi-player, so these findings "might" not be fully representative In short, I'm pretty impressed. I wasn't sure that it was going to deliver the hoped for 72fps, but in the majority of my tests, it happily managed it. As for power consumption, turns out that it's very close to my old 3080Ti, meaning that I frankly don't really care. Hope that helps.

  10. Hello all. I not found thread with this wish, so decided to do this one. Would be really cool, if ED will add ground personell (as they did in Supercarrier) so, it will add much more immersion and new players probably will press Win+Home much more less then now. I really like Heatblur way with ground checks, but I think this option should be for all types of aircrafts. You guys will add F-15C and F-35 soon, you already have lots of non naval aircrafts, much more then Hornet+Tomcat right? So, why not to do ground crew for Air Force? This feature will be super cool for players that like to follow real manuals` procedures. I hope some day we will see this in DCS, thank you. and what about rock sign for pilot and ground crew? Looks cool!

  11. This is how Dora cockpit was in early screenshots when it was still WIP. Colors were great...same thing with K4. Why ED changed RLM 66 to light bueish gray later stays mystery to me.

  13. March 2025 and still no English manual for the Hind after 4 years since release. There are absolutely no excuses for this lack of customer service from ED. I can understand a short delay, but this is ridiculus. If I had known, there is no way I would have bought this module. Chuck's is good but it doesn't have the detail of a properly written manual, particulary for a complex module like Hind. This is yet another example of ED slipping and not respecting their long term customers. I really like DCS, but I'm starting to be more and more disappointed in the company, even though I have invested alot of money for modules, terrains and campaigns. Maybe ED should implement some partical refunds for customers whom have purchased the Hind module. Better still, get it's act together. Wayne

  15. Hi, I'm on the "immersion" camp, so I doubt that any Dynamic Campaign will be attractive to me .. I'd rather spend the 10-15 dollars that a immersive Campaign by @Reflected, @baltic_dragon, @SorelRo and others, costs. But for sure I will try it first to see if I'm wrong about it.

The leather is was mostly black. Late war doras even had the side walls of cockpit unpainted. The instrument gauges were also all painted black cept markings and the oxygen gauges.

  19. I’m proud to say that the project is still active, but progressing slowly due to: A- I got an exciting new job. B- I’m in the middle of a home renovation. C- I was contacted by a couple of developers to model the interior of a well-known mod. With the cockpit of that aircraft about 30% complete, I put my personal project (the Huey) on hold to support that other one. However, they suddenly stopped all communication without prior notice, and all my attempts to reach them were unsuccessful. It now seems like they won’t continue the project. So, once I get my life reorganized, I’ll definitely be able to dedicate more hours to the project. thanks!! I will read it when I find some free time

  22. There’s something that doesn’t add up for me when it comes to active flight simulator companies: they all avoid recreating the last great battle between air forces. The pinnacle of aerial combat—where the objective was in the air for both attackers and defenders… yet no one wants to open that can of worms. Both ED and its WWII-focused competitors prefer to skirt around it. In DCS, the map exists. It’s a paid map, but by now, it could be as free as the Marianas. I’m not talking about the Normandy map but the other one, which, for some strange reason, hasn’t been merged with Normandy. Once the "map issue" is resolved, I can’t quite understand why they’ve chosen to dive into such a technologically complex environment (in terms of software and hardware) instead of sticking to an already created setting (Map/Maps and Assets pack), where they would only need to focus on modeling iconic aircraft—planes that practically sell themselves since they exist in the public imagination and have tons of easily accessible information. There are even flyable models in countless collections and museums worldwide. If 99% of those who own the K-4 were asked to swap it for an E-3/E-4 or their Spit Mk.IX for a Mk.Ia with just four measly .30 Browning machine guns per wing—or even for a Hurricane Mk.Ia—they’d do it without hesitation. And most importantly, they’d pay for it if it were a "sine qua non" requirement (since, after all, this is a business). That was the success of Cliffs of Dover more than 15 years ago. If the limitation lies in the "complexity" of AI flight models… no problem! Just boost multiplayer: human pilot vs. human pilot. 95% of Cliffs of Dover simmers only wanted to experience firsthand what it was like to fly in a battlefield where, in a matter of seconds, a calm sky turned into a hornet’s nest, with up to 100 players on a server chasing each other in spirals toward the ground. I haven’t felt that sensation again since leaving that game. And if you connect any sunday to any WW2 server.... They're "walking deads": no hard feelings towards all gents that put their efforts on them. Flying military fighters as if they were Cessna 172s on a casual Sunday flight shouldn’t be the ultimate goal of a simulator that has the letter "C" for Combat in its name. And even now, after the release of the "PTOS PACK," that’s exactly what’s going to happen. I could understand it when the first modules came out over a decade ago, but at this point, it makes no sense. I also don’t buy the idea that some "third party" will come in to save the DCS world—that’s not their responsibility. In my opinion, flying a Hellcat against an "AI piloted Zero-Sen" doesn’t appeal to me beyond the "15-day trial." However, piloting within a squadron of SBD Dauntless or D3A VAL, locating an enemy fleet, and learning how to execute dive-bombing runs amidst a storm of flak and bullets? Now that interests me—even in single-player. If they listened more to their customers, I think they’d make better business decisions, and their audience would be happier—or at least less frustrated.

  25. Not sure how well simulated it is because I never tried it, but IRL There's a switch right by the canopy defog switch that says "RAIN REMOVE". It blasts air at the canopy to remove the rain. Try that. I'd bet it needs the APU running on the ground with your engines below 80%.

  29. You are comparing apples to oranges. Heatblur is a small firm that undertakes relatively big projects. The F-4 was designed with the component system from the ground up and it spent years under development. Doing it for the Tomcat would require an almost complete rework of the entire module which would again take years when they already have the A-6, the Eurofighter and who knows what else in the works. Not saying that I wouldn't want more features for the Tomcat and faster squashing of bugs, but I get why it's taking so long.

Here is an example one, which can be found here: N 34°57.363' E 68°57.884' And this for for example: N 35°02.203' E 69°00.246' There are looots of villages with textures like this, would be cool to fix that with some transition textures between the village texture and the surrounding, to somehow blend one texture into another. Now it really looks odd. Would be better to use the google maps (or what ever you use) textures every where. -- What you did in the city areas looks amazing indeed, there is no noticeable difference bettwen two or more different textures, please use the same tecqnique, like on the examples bellow:

  33. That's the point with F-14. It was great times while it lasted. We got development, maintenance and even some wishes done (wished by users or HB themselves) until F-4 became a thing. No wonder users get frustrated like I or @JupiterJoe. They just didn't push you enough yet. But the Tomcat did use the ladder and huffer cart for the startup too. Also VW did redesign the Beetle in 90s. So why only for F-4, again?

  36. You can't trust the chaff alone. You have to also notch the missile (for ARH) or the aircraft (for SARH). Best is to stay out of the WEZ. Learning the RIO role is really good for understanding Tomcat's radar/WCS capabilities and limitations. If you can't launch at night or in Case III conditions you have to use "external lights switch". If not - we need more info or a track.

  37. MH60L of course would be a far more versatile choice then Uh60L for DCS purposes because apart from more advanced avionics such as radar, FLIR, partial glass cockpit 160th SOAR can configure them as gunships, so it would give virtual pilots more to do than just slingload supplies or deliver troops with. But GL finding documentation on this particular variant needed to make a study sim level simulation.
    2 points
  38. IN black hawk down those were the Mh60L. the modified more advanced variant the 160th SOAR flew. The regular army UH60, the UH60L was basically just a UH60A with updated powertrain and more powerful engine. Although looking at the DCS UH60L mod its a 1996 or later version given the presense of AN/ASN-128B GPS doppler system and AN/ARC220 radio, and an/avs7 clip on monacle hud system for night vision.

  39. Community/mods, please let me know if this content is all in the right place or I should be posting this somewhere else. As I think more about mission creation here, allow me to share an important concept to think about while editing. I don't know how common knowledge this piece is. The Stack In the OEF Afghanistan campaigns around 2010-2013 (my time there) the US usually employed a “stack” concept when providing close air support (CAS). At its most basic, this meant placing multiple aircraft at different altitudes, each with distinct responsibilities that together created persistent coverage for ground forces. Below is a simplified breakdown of how that often looked: High altitude/ on call strikers Aircraft such as B1B Lancers or even B52s (in certain cases) could orbit above 20,000 to 25,000+ feet. Their primary role was to deliver heavier ordnance if needed, providing a large weapons payload and long loiter times. The B52 was the ONLY aircraft I didn't see while in country. Because they were high above the fight, these bombers could remain on station for extended periods and quickly respond when a JTAC on the ground requested precision strikes Mid altitude CAS and overwatch Fighters like the F18, F16, F15E, or sometimes A10s would orbit at medium altitude (15,000–20,000 feet). They offered a mix of precision-guided munitions and the ability to drop quickly into lower altitude if needed for more direct engagement. They often acted as armed overwatch using targeting pods to keep eyes on the ground situation, track movement, and coordinate with the JTAC or an airborne command element (like an AWACS). Low altitude / direct attack layer Closer to the ground, rotary-wing aircraft (AH64 Apache, UH1/AH1 in the Marine Corps) might operate for immediate direct fire support. In certain situations, AH64s orA10s or even armed UAVs could orbit lower if required for more precise strikes or to maintain sensor coverage. This lower altitude “layer” was more intimately involved with troops in contact, conducting shows of force and direct strafing runs if needed. Supporting elements AWACS could remain on station even higher up or off to the side of the operations area, providing big-picture radar coverage, deconfliction of airspace, and communications relays. KC135 or KC10 Tankers loitered in safe zones, enabling fighters, bombers, and other aircraft to quickly refuel and remain onstation for longer periods this was essential to maintain a persistent presence Coordination and deconfliction A key part of the CAS stack concept was strict altitude separation. Each flight would “own” a particular block of airspace, preventing accidents and ensuring quick maneuverability without colliding or interfering with the other aircraft. The JTAC on the ground used radio nets and datalinks to talk to the different layers, requesting strikes or shows of force as the ground situation evolved. The overlapping fields of sensor coverage and ordnance meant ground forces could quickly receive the best suited air asset for their immediate threat. If one layer was busy or low on fuel, another layer could hand over coverage. This fluid hand-off minimized “gaps” in CAS availability. By stacking aircraft at multiple altitudes, the U.S. could keep eyes on the ground, quickly move fighters or bombers into strike positions, and respond to dynamic threats with minimal delay. When setting up a scenario in DCS to replicate this doctrine, you can simulate each “layer” at different altitudes (and possibly different orbits or racetracks). Incorporate AWACS for overall awareness, include tankers to keep your fighters and bombers on station, and ensure that a JTAC unit on the ground controls strikes, if mission dictates. Most of the time there was not a JTAC unless it was an offensive raid of some kind, or a TIC (troops in contact). This approach will give you a realistic feel for how layered CAS was typically executed by US forces around 2010. As the lowest layer AC supporting the TIC would run out of fuel or munitions, the stack would all go down one level. It would not be uncommon to have 8-10 aircraft during the fighting season. Khost's fighting season was longer than the rest for the reasons I mentioned in post 1. I couldn't find a diagram online so I made a crappy one with chat gtp Altitude (High) ┌───────────────────┐ │ B-1B/B-52 │ (Long loiter, heavy payload) └───────────────────┘ Altitude (Medium) ┌───────────────────┐ │ F-15E / F-16 / A-10 / F-18 │ (Precision strikes, armed overwatch) └───────────────────┘ Altitude (Low) ┌───────────────────┐ │ AH-64 │ (Direct fire support) └───────────────────┘ Ground Level ┌───────────────────┐ │ JTAC / Troops │ └───────────────────┘ Tanker & AWACS often hold in adjacent orbits off to the side (not shown) to handle refueling and overall command & control. Does all of that make sense? ASk me any question here, or if you want me to give a scenario. What I don’t know is how it would work in the editor.

  42. Not to mention the starting sound, it's very anticlimactic. You barely hear anything and what you hear is nearly silent "brrt" and that's it. Same goes for most WW2 planes in DCS. Compare any of them in Youtube and see/hear how exciting the startups are in comparison. It's the same thing with or without the "hear like helmet" -option.

  45. Really? You know MSFS has been around since 1982 and is absolutely enormous. Using Steam alone... DCS Currently playing = 642 players All time peak = 3,328 MSFS Currently Playing = 4097 All time peak = 61,775 Its not only a greater market but absolutely dwarfs the combat aircraft arena. Based on this, I doubt we will see very much, if not anything at all from Winwing for us combat simmers. They will go where the money is (and rightly so...they are a business afterall) It started as a hobby for them most likely, and now its putting food on tables.

  46. You will miss: 1: sharpness The resolution in the sweet spot of the G2 is much, much better! 2. Colors The Colors of the G2 are better 3. Playtime The battery will be empty in less than 1.5 hours if you play maxed out using VirtualDesktop 4. Comfort The Q3 with the standard Headstrap is extremely front heavy. Yes, the Q3 is light, but yes, the Q3 basic Headstrap is BS, to say it nice. You need an extra comfort Headstrap. 5. Sound The G2 has a so much better sound. No comparison! To make the Quest 3 Simulator ready, you have to invest 150-350+ extra Dollar. If you are looking for a Sim Headset, try a Pimax Crystal Light. This Headset is the better deal if you only want to play Sims.
