Regarding your preference for an earlier version of the Herc, I regret to inform you that if i had made such an aircraft, you would have been unable to operate it either a) without a full crew of humans b) within the next 5 years, as that's how long it would have taken me to implement a sufficiently advanced ai crew system to support you4 points

How about the Cessna T-41 Mescalero (It's basically a 172 used as a trainer). Seriously while I think there is little market for this commercially this might be good as a mod. Though I would side with the O-1 Birddog3 points

Certainly. To be perfectly, honest, little of it has to do with the upcoming C-130J module in itself, and as such it might be a little unfair on my part, but the fact is that a little bit of hyping up wouldn't be amiss. 1. The only bit that is in your field here, is that I increasingly can't shake the thought that I would have much preferred an earlier C-130 model. One with the steam gauges cockpit instead of being mostly screens. It is a bit late to bring that up, I am aware. Also, mostly personal preference, I'm sure the majority of the community appreciates the 'latest and greatest possible' approach. 2. This has nothing to do with your efforts at all, but there is the whole Razbam situation. People who take interest in those proceedings might have noticed that the 'discussion thread' has changed modes from being archived and then restarted every now and then to 'purge entirely and lock it up'. Everyone is of course entitled to form their own opinions, but I have a quite firm one on why that happened then, and it does not bode well. (I shall not elaborate further on that because it is off-topic and also will get this post deleted for sure) 3. Again, nothing you can do here, but another onset of general DCS fatigue. Or maybe ED fatigue? Lots of little things that irk and annoy me and worst of all is how much mere questions are treated as complaints, valid complaints as unreasonable hate, and stern criticism as heresy around here. That is, if any official reply happens at all. And no, this is in no way meant to be directed at anybody here personally, I am convinced the problem lies further in the management. Again, I am aware there isn't a lot to be done on your end about any of this. On the whole I am glad to say that I am still looking forward to the C-130J module and, to be honest, I am firmly convinced that it'll be a success. My whole point was supposed to be that my personal excitement level sure could get boosted with a few nice screenshots again sometime soon.3 points

I’d still like some flares for our wooden wonder. Not bell-bottomed jobbies from the 70s but Target Indicators. The wipers have never been connected either. The animation’s working and can be seen and used in the model viewer but since she rolled out of the shed, we’re wiperless wonders. Come on team, give her some love, please .3 points

EA-18G Style Electronic Warfare Script by Timberwolf As we all know, ESAc_matador's EW script is now quite outdated. I have created this script, which emulates EA-18G style jamming, including defensive and offensive jamming, spot jamming, a jammer capacity system, and a loadout system. 1. Setup Place your Growler unit in the mission editor with the exact unit name defined in the script (default: "Growler" in jammerUnits). Ensure MIST is loaded before this script. Load this script as a DO SCRIPT FILE trigger at mission start. Spot jamming may break if the jet is spawned within 80nm of SAMs. Also, spot jamming may sometimes jam the wrong target; just turn it OFF and back ON to fix it. 2. F10 Radio Menu Once the mission starts and your aircraft spawns, open the F10 Other menu. You’ll see: EW Jamming Loadout Sets emitter capacity (energy available for jamming). Options: No Jammers, 1x ALQ-99, 2x ALQ-99, 3x ALQ-99, 2x ALQ-249, 2x ALQ-249 + 1x ALQ-99. Capacity scales from 0 to 3500 units. Defensive Area Jamming On/Off – continuously spoofs incoming radar-guided missiles in a full 360° bubble. Offensive Area Jamming On/Off – suppresses all enemy SAM radars within ~50 km (line-of-sight). Directional Jamming Offensive and Defensive submenus Select front, left, right, rear arcs for sector-based jamming. Spot Jamming Off – disable spot jamming Target Selection – submenu auto-populates with SAM/ship radars in range. Each option is shown as: NATO Name | Bearing° | Range nm Selecting one will start focused jamming against that site. 3. Jamming Behavior Emitter Capacity Energy is consumed while jamming and regenerates when idle. Rates: Defensive area: 15/sec Offensive area: 15/sec Directional: 5/sec Spot jamming: 30/sec (tripled from original 10) Defensive Jamming Attempts to spoof incoming radar-guided missiles. Success chance increases closer in (e.g., 98% inside 3 nm). Spoofed missiles are destroyed, with a debug message showing approximate distance and bearing (e.g., “Spoofed missile at ~5 nm (3 o’clock)”). Offensive/Spot Jamming Puts SAMs into WEAPON HOLD while suppression is active. They return to OPEN FIRE if jamming ends, emitter capacity depletes, range/LOS is broken, or spot target is lost. Spot jamming is strongest within ~35–50 nm (depending on loadout), with probabilities tapering to ~20–25% at max range. Altitude improves spot jamming effectiveness. 4. Overheat Protection If emitter capacity drops below 15 units, all jamming shuts down to prevent “overheat.” A debug message will inform you: “Growler jamming automatically shut down due to overheat.” 5. Debug Messages Show emitter capacity, active modes, spoofed missile kills, suppression successes/failures, and automatic shutdowns. Messages are group-specific (only your flight sees them). 6. Best Practices Use Loadout menu before enabling jamming. Conserve energy—full-area defensive + offensive together will drain capacity quickly. Spot jamming is energy-intensive (30/sec). Save it for priority threats (e.g., SA-10 or Patriot). If capacity runs out, wait ~20–30 seconds to regenerate before re-enabling. Flying higher improves spot jamming line-of-sight and effectiveness. Attached is the script, MIST, and a sample mission file with everything already loaded. For the sample file, make sure to select your loadout first and then wait for the jammer capacity to spool up before spawning the strike flight and jamming. Have fun EA18G EW Script by Timberwolf.lua mist_4_5_126.lua EW Script Demo.miz2 points

Hi all! I have been playing DCS for 5 years on a 2D-monitor. Today I bought the Quest 3S, jumped into DCS and was completely blown away! DCS is a completely DIFFERENT game in VR, not only that you are suddenly sitting inside the cockpit, all the proportions is completely different! I have never liked or enjoyed the A-10C, but now I am IN LOVE with the A-10! This bird is HUGE in VR and the cockpit is sooo beautiful! I also jumped into the P-47 and ohh man, let me tell you, if you enjoy warbirds, you are teleported back 50 years inside the real P-47 and it looks NOTHING like on a 2D monitor! The thing is I am running a pretty crappy home computer, RTX 3080, 32 GB Ram, I5 and the most simple VR-headset a Quest 3S for 300 dollars, I am getting a solid 40-60 FPS in singleplayer even on Normandy map. This is the best spent 300 dollars in my entire life, I am NEVER going to play DCS without a VR-headset again, just doing some simple flying is 10x more fun then before2 points

Repaint of the F-86 Cockpit This model, which was very well made in its time, is already quite old, and I believe it deserves a modernization. I have carried out the repaint based on the black cockpit scheme, as I had complete photographic references of this version and, in this way, it also allows the option of flying both variants. All labels and legends have been recreated according to the available real-world information, while keeping in mind the limitations of integrating them into an already existing model. Repaint of the F-86 Sabre Jet Cockpit What has been achieved: -Application of a black base coat on the cockpit model. -Addition of metal wear effects, scratches, and layers of dust and dirt to enhance realism. -Implementation of roughmet layers, allowing for highlights and reflections that vary depending on the material of each surface. Limitations encountered: -The original model does not include bump maps in its files, which makes it impossible to simulate surface roughness and fine reliefs through the shader. Despite this, every effort has been made to achieve a convincing result. -The instrument lights could not be altered, as they are not texture-dependent but rather determined by the way the models were originally exported. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/es/files/3346544/2 points

If you're not providing updates and you're not giving owners of early access modules a response when they ask what development is being done, then the module is effectively abandoned. This module is dated before its even been completed. Why should people keep buying EA modules if this is how development is going to go. It's the same with the supercarrier, just endless early access.2 points

As a prior Master Gunner looking at these ranges and using some common sense you can tell these are pretty fubar. I'm not going to give away information, but I would love to know where this "correct as is" information came from. The M60A3 outranging everything by over 1nm..(Greatest MBT of all time confirmed?) Hate to be the bearer of bad news but those NATO MBTs 120mm are smacking those big scary T series all day long while the challenger 2 continues to touch them at 2.8+nm. Someone must have forgot that the Challenger has the world record of a 2.75nm tank kill on a T-55 sooo there's that. I placed each unit in the same exact spot, used the ruler to measure from the center of the vehicle to it's engagement range. It's pretty lame when making missions and the units can't engage because they're ranges are wrong.2 points

Ah man, I really appreciate you sharing this, thank you. I’m glad you had fun playing them. it’s interesting that you say Red Flag helped you succeed in AT, even though it’s for a different airframe but I can totally see why.2 points

I recently completed both Arctic Thunder campaigns by Baltic Dragon and Reflected, following the recommended order from the developers. Arctic Thunder left a very strong impression on me, and I’d like to share a few thoughts. One of the most brilliant aspects is the concept of the connected campaign. Switching perspectives between the Stingers and the finnish Horents adds enormous value, especially in larger missions, and it’s an idea that would work extremely well in many other scenarios too, since most DCS players own more than one module, after all. The ground chief mechanic is another highlight. It takes immersion to a whole new level, and here Reflected truly outdid himself. To be honest, I sometimes skipped it when short on time, but to enjoy the missions to their fullest, I highly recommend taking the extra minutes. The voice acting is excellent across the board, and the triggers work smoothly and reliably. As always with Reflected’s work, following proper procedures, maintaining time-on-target, and flying by the book are essential. Some may see this as limiting and like on rails, but in real air force operations, you can’t just do whatever you want either. It adds to the realism and makes the whole experience much more authentic. One interesting aspect for me was, that I could aply skills an knowledge I gained in the Redflag 81-2 campaign. Although this campaign was created for another plane, it felt like Arctic Thunder was the deployment I trained for in Redflag 81-2. Mission design is varied and engaging, and the character development reaches a real high point in Mission 7. Still, my personal favorite was Mission 5. The missions are long and realistic, often involving pre-push refueling, holding at anchor, and then pushing in on the right codeword. For players who don’t have much time, I would even recommend considering the immortal mode because it can be frustrating to get hit by a SAM after more than an hour of careful flying. The briefings are fully integrated into DCS, which means you don’t necessarily need to read the PDFs. The setting, attention to detail, realism, and overall immersion are outstanding. This campaign is definitely not aimed at absolute beginners. You need to know your way around the Viper before starting. That said, I still learned a lot about the aircraft throughout the campaign. Arctic Thunder is another masterpiece by Reflected. The concept, execution, and immersion are second to none. Highly recommended.2 points

I have installed this mod CH-47F Reduced Cockpit Textures [2K, no MipMaps] and I am now enjoying 140 fps with an excellent quality. I was not happy with the "medium" quality textures but with this mod the quality is awesome and the performance excellent. I know we all hope top have a better solution without having to use mods but at least on the meantime, this helps a lot.2 points

Hello together. I want to share where my issue was coming from and how I fixed it. It's all about pressure! It's about the cable loop provided for this purpose on the head strap, the very stiff cable, and the probably too low tolerances of the fan blade covers. All this also explains why the problem mainly affects the left fan. A cable loop is provided to prevent the cable from kinking when the head strap is folded up. This loop has a guide. And this guide ensures that tension or pressure is applied to the cable. This pressure is transmitted via the cable connection to the optical unit. This is enough to cause the fan blades of the left fan to rub against the cover and produce a humming noise. If you remove the cable from the guide, the noise is almost 100% eliminated. I can't say exactly what is happening inside the optical drive without opening it up. But I'm not going to do that. The fact is, I can create or eliminate the problem on my own by changing the pressure on the cable. This is exacerbated if, like me, you have a “small” forehead, which causes the headset to bend even more and thus creates more pressure on the cable connection via the cable. So if anyone experiences a similar problem to mine, please try removing the cable loop from the designated loop to see if that helps.2 points

@Twwhitey I don't have this issue. I had to lower my brightness in DCS to 1.8 and in Pimax Play to 99 %.2 points

The only thing that would make sense now would be for @Reflected and @baltic_dragon to team up again, and this time invite others like @ChillNG (Ground Pounder), @Sandman Simulations, or @Badger633 to join forces in creating the ultimate Operation Desert Storm. Based on real life missions with shared scenarios and voice actors, each with a different module and their own individual style, yet always building on one another.2 points

You would need to properly put out the fire. I am not aware of a way to trigger this magically. Fire goes out when you repair the aircraft (maybe this can be triggered?) or fly fast enough for some time (practice testing: around 10-15s at 0.8 - 1.0 mach). Depends on a lot of conditions of course. Shutting the engine down will not help a lot because once there is a fire it will burn through the engine and set other parts on fire as well. It does not need the fuel to continue burning. It can help in the early stages of some fires when you only got an OVERHEAT but no FIRE lamp and potentially also only see smoke instead of fire coming out of the engines.2 points

I was listening to something the other day and learnt that on the flight Dimbleby flew and reported on, his Pilot was Gibbo. I’ll have to read Enemy Coast Ahead again for a refresher. He should never have been asked to even begin forming 617 when he was asked to. He’d done more than enough already and was pretty battered. Amazing what some of those fellas went through. Looking through the thread a bit, just reposting this one (with gunners ). Best regards team2 points

I was thinking more of the early to mid 00s. We need to be able to create missions based on the Russian invasion of Georgia, or hypotheticals like Russia/Soviet intervention in the Gulf War. A map of the Baltic region and Balkans would be great for a post Cold War mission too.2 points

That loadout works for me. A guess based on what you are describing and the setup of the mission that you provided, is that you are leaving the weapon selector knob in TV mode which inhibits all air-to-air munitions release. The trigger is used for the Maverick in this mode. When you air-start with a Maverick, the Weapon Selector starts in the TV mode so that the Gyros in the Mav are spun up and ready to go.2 points
-
So…….. upon careful re reading of documents…… I am enlightened to my past mistakes The sensor changing without using the knob switch is only in interaction/cooperation mode, (duh!!!). So let’s say you lock someone from TP scan mode and want to IFF. Best way is to select cooperation. Select fox 1, then un select it after seeing “C” or not. Or could switch fox1/coop sequence. Let’s say you enter lock from TP vertical scan, helmet, OPT, but don’t want to STT too long, you’ll have to lock with cooperation off. When you’re ready to IFF, select cooperation to see IFF status then switch coop off or it will keep giving them STT as long as laser range is present. Same with TP scan or even gun mode, inside 6.5 km, once it gets a laser return radar just locks (now that it’s not needed for ranging). And HUD will show radar mode.2 points

What internal work is being done? Is there a timeline for release? I've just scrolled back through all changelogs to January 2024 and unless I missed something, the mosquito only features twice (not including third party campaigns). Once for a fix to tailwheel and once for a fix to AI bombing after the player. That's not really meaningful development of the module. It's not all that different for modules like the supercarrier and the hind.2 points

I think that most pilots who have mastered landing the MiG-29 do this intuitively, but it's important to remember that the aircraft requires quick and precise corrections to maintain the landing attitude in the final few meters. However, beginners should be aware that the plane tends to reduce its angle of attack just before touchdown, so they must anticipate and compensate for this tendency.2 points
