I used to get the weekly newsletter by email but they stopped arriving some time ago and I can't figure out how to sign up again. I had assumed they were no longer sent, but some people today suggest they are still getting the emails. So how do I sign up? Is there a sticky for this?

We are excited about the Super Carrier coming!! I am hoping, however, that some of the great things listed in the newsletter that are indicated for VR will also be available for those that can't use VR (like LSO, Airboss, etc.).

Of course they will be available for non-VR. They're just mentioning those features will be available for VR users.

Looks nice, but devs might want to pay attention to self-shadowing of the deck crew, because it is all winky wonky at the moment.

I will be the first to ask --

Coming soon to the DCS World battlefields is an updated model of the T-72B3

In relation to the above, it would be really nice to know if "soon" is still within this year or rather 2020?

How come that the A-20 took it 1 year and nearly 10 months from a game-ready model state to an flying AI game assets?

I just hope that's not the trend for future units.

I really hope the old T72B stays in DCS(since its representative of a cold war era T72B model 1985) with the T72B3 instead chosen as a new tank model, rather than replacement l. ITs a tougher nut to crack due to Kontact, 5 and has a totally new digital FCS, Thermal optics, and new gun and extended Autoloader to accept newer longer APFSDS munition types , more powerful engine than preceding T72B or current T90's. T72B3 ( perhaps minus internal armor arrays and Shotra jammers) is therefore otherwise superior to the T90 tanks.

Also should be noted that the 3d model they choose is that of the T72B3M. Even then Id say ED is kinda cherry picking with the 3d design choice as they chose something resembling the May day version of the T72B3M

In reality army service T72B3M due to lack of funding ended up not being fitted with such side Relict Era skirts or additional armor atop the relict side skirts. They instead have the 3 plates containing Kontact 5 in same arrangement as the T90 does.

Something like this.

Vanilla T72B3 ( Non M) lacks these 3 plates altogether.

Oh and id also point out the information in the newsletter description for the T72B3 is somewhat incorrect

https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4029204&postcount=214

"Coming soon to the DCS World battlefields is an updated model of the T-72B3. This upgraded version of the T-72B saw action in Syria and is destined to keep the type operational into the foreseeable future. The tank is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore main gun, a 12.7 mm roof-mounted machine gun, and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. It can also fire the 9M119 and M119M guided missiles. It is equipped with the same armor used on the T-80 and T-90 main battle tanks. This new model should bring a lot more immersion to not only ground attack missions, but Combined Arms as well."

1)

I cant find any sources that it saw action in Syria, Russia Sent the T90 to Syria instead.

https://www.fort-russ.com/2015/12/why-did-russia-send-t-90a-and-not/

I think what nineline meant to say was "saw action in Ukraine" ;)

2) Although its not technically wrong to say so it might be somewhat generalization. i will point out that this is true for ERA armor. T72B3 uses kontact 5 as T80U and T90/T90A. But internal armor arrays are not the same. Thus it ends up having weaker armor. ( at least if based on model 1985 build of T72B)

T72B3's are rebuilds mostly from MOD 85's. They have spaced armor array layers ( Steel plates and air gaps) insude the Hull Frontal area, and inside the Cast Turret. These are totally different armor arrays than what either the T80U or T90's have.

some T72B3 are T72B mod 89 rebuilds. Such late production model has the same armor array as early T90's ( T90A gets new welded turret type)

After all a base model T90 was basically just a T72B mod 89 but with T80U fire controls, and newly developed Shotra system.

I am still happy.

It doesn't really matter if it is accurate as long as it is not a module I think.

I am happy that DCS targets are expanding into modern graphics, like with Silkworm, and more recently CAP and others.

Even that Chinese assets are out of place in DCS if you take real life into consideration.

However for "what if" it is perfect..

I am so eager to start bombing all these new models.

Question: are these new assets (excluding CAP) created by ED or another party?

Check the "Unofficial Roadmap" (on my Signature), I recompilate some assets building by RAZBAM, Magnitude 3, etc.

with these tank remodels i would also hope to see vanilla M1A2 remodeled M1A2 SEP V2 ( relevant for 21st century), and also have a separate M1 version, to represent late cold war/ gulf war era M1A1 HA.

Agreed, would like a newer M1A2 with more camos and TUSK arrangements. Bradley is in need of a dire upgrade too. They've been sporting ERA tiles for years and years now. We just got the default vanilla Bradley from 1990's :(.

Hell i wouldn't even mind an updated M1A2 with the Trophy (doesn't need to work like Merkavas Trophy ingame) added since there's brigades in the European theater for US Army equipping them this year.

I'd probably play CA a bit more if they did. But hey, i want an controllable Arleigh Burke Destroyer within the Carrier DLC and that won't happen ever either, so yeah. Wishful thinking.

Either way glad to see an addition with the T-72B3.

Is there an approx. ETA on the WW2 additions?

Not trying to be cynical but the Centaur IV Tank appeared in the Newsletter 7 months ago, the M10 back in November of last year... I'm hoping the A-20 and the U-boat are significantly closer to release.
