I like this newletter even better than the last one! Looking forward to 2.5.6 and the Supercarrier DLC the most.

Question about this:

"Last year we used the AIM-7 as a testbed to implement several air-to-air missile performance and guidance improvements. Early this year we will be doing the same for the AIM-120. The AIM-120 performance in 2020 will be closer to claimed specifications given adjustments to G-induced drag in the trans-sonic region, and we improved the efficiency of the lofting profile."

I know the 120C the Viper and Hornet use just got a modest boost in performance, to what specs will the above modification to the weapon achieve?

Wow, what a list.

My thanks for also being a lot more cagey about expected delivery dates. That will hopefully reduce some of the noise.

I like how they mentioned that the MiG-23 is being developed by Razbam, as if that is a good thing

Isn't the "Channel Map" be overstepping a lot of the same spots the Normandy map is ? Can't they be merged ?

Besides the mentioned above super excited for Vulkan, especially the new lighting system and oh my... the AI, looking forward towards the new AI and Damage model, probably what I am most excited about, seconded by the engine (vulkan and lightning) changes

Holy crap, that is a lot of great information and plenty to look forward to in 2020. Gonna be a great year of flying.

Congrats ED and all 3rd Party. Your work is greatly appreciated.

Yes looks like some very exciting stuff on the plate for this year!

I will be definitely pre-ordering the new Super Carrier.

....

As with the new Nimitz-class aircraft carrier model for Supercarrier, the Kuznetsov and Arleigh Burke will be visible to all in multiplayer, regardless if you own the Supercarrier module....

A little question, because i'm not sure if i understand this correctly(i didn't follow the Supercarrier modul because i'm not interested in it). I need to buy the Supercarrier module to be able to use the new US carrier and the new/overhauled Kuznetsov? If i don't own that module i will be able to see them in MP, but i can't use the overhauled Kuznetsov in SP, it will be the "old" one?

Modules: KA-50, A-10C, FC3, UH-1H, MI-8MTV2, CA, MIG-21bis, FW-190D9, Bf-109K4, F-86F, MIG-15bis, M-2000C, SA342 Gazelle, AJS-37 Viggen, F/A-18C, F-14, C-101, FW-190A8, F-16C, F-5E, JF-17, SC, Mi-24P Hind, AH-64D Apache, Mirage F1, F-4E Phantom II

Aircraft Artificial Intelligence (AI)

In 2019 we made initial improvements to the dogfight AI that delivers more realistic and human behaviour, this also includes implementation of modern control theory Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) and Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion (INDI) to all our AI aircraft in DCS in 2020. The new approach will extend flight envelopes and improve AI control quality and control response in mass and moment of inertia changes. In 2020 we will continue this effort, but also devote resources to improve other AI areas to include:

  • Beyond Visual Range (BVR) offensive and defensive behaviour
  • Formation keeping and correct use of external lights
  • Air-to-Ground attack maneuvers
  • Very-low level flight and terrain following
  • Defensive threat responses (SAM and AAA)

…soooooo… will AI aircraft actually behave like the respective aircraft and no longer have access to infinite power? :P

Unless “extended envelopes” and “improved controls” should be read as “not having nearly as much control and be far more limited in their envelopes”, those sound more like areas where the AI don't really need improved capabilities.

No the Channel is a different area with high detailed zones in France and UK, wont be the same areas as the Normandy Map. ANd no merging.

Fantastic newsletter ED

WW2 should see huge advances in both gameplay and immersion in the near future. I was sold anyway on the Supercarrier and Mosquito for this year, but you guy's also got me hooked for the new Channel map too which looks stunning BTW. Will be great for full intruder missions in the Mosquito from UK to northern France and back.

Nice to see the core game getting some attention too, look forward to the new night lighting, hope it's a big improvement to what we have now which looks not so good flying at night in VR.

Keep up the great work guy's :)

It is a good thing. They do good flight models and beautiful planes. Its advanced system coding that they struggle with and the Mig is relatively simple when compared to the harrier ARBS, TPOD, Etc.

can we get some clarrification on this section @matt/newy/nine.

the DCS: Supercarrier module will also include a greatly updated Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier (without deck animation), the Su-33 Flanker D for DCS World (for those of you who don’t already own it), and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer!

We already know that the Super Carrier will work with out making the mess that the WW2 objects pack did (really think you should have stuck with high poly for those who brought low poly for those who didn't with that), believe that with the carrier it's you bolter all the time and the cats etc don't work.

how is the Burke working? is it just a free addition to ALL users DCS etc but not releasing until the Super Carrier or ???. some of this stuff needs to be maybe communicated a little better on how it's going to be implimented, because lord knows none of us who run servers want another WW2 Asset pack issue were we put in a unit accidently on a mission and suddenly half our users can't join it because they don't own that module.

Why a DCS Channel Map when we already have the Normandy Map that covers almost the exact same area???

So much great stuff! Instead of just praising every single feature I will just say that I'm happy to see that ED is working to improve this sim at exactly the right spots and that gives me a lot of satisfaction and confidence about the future of DCS!
