Why do you fly FC3?

  1. 1. What is the main reason that you fly Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft while there are other full fidelity DCS modules with the same or comparable roles?

    • I like the specific aircraft that is simulated, not available otherwise.

    • I like the simplified systems and operation form.

I fly FC aircraft when they are the only option for the job. I.e. flying the Su-25 and A-10A for ground attack on the Enigma Cold War server. I would likely fly them more if they had interactive (clickable) cockpits (not the mod),

To fly the Su-27 and, to a lesser degree, the MiG-29 followed by the Su-25, and Su-25T. I’ve been flying the Flanker, since ED came out with her in the late 90’s. If she ends up MAC-only, then that’s where I’ll have to go as well.

Yeah, best VR performance in DCS :thumbup:

After coming back to the FC3 modules with a VR headset and a better HOTAS I realised that almost everything I needed was bindable to a button, lever or dial.

So I eventually forgot that FC3's are "not clickable". I like the flightmodels and even the cockpits very much.

Fair enough. But I fly VR with PointCTRL and love the simplicity it brings to operating the controls. So, an interactive cockpit is a very high priority for me.

I'd also prefer interactive cockpits and would pay for those but I'm afraid FC3 is what it is and will stay that way. I still enjoy it from time to time.

Su25a for me.  Would fly a full fidelity version if there was one.

For me obviously full fidelity is way better than low fidelity simplified FC3 standard in every possible regard. It's even easier to learn without the need to bind and remember some 40-50 abstract functions, but having interactive cockpit.

The only reason i fly FC3 sometimes is FC3 modeled the sexiest late Cold War jets, with the sweet spot 1980s/1990s F-15C, MiG-29A, Su-27S, A-10A, Su-25 semi analog-semi digital era, when air combat and ground attack were close and personal for the last time during 1991 Desert Storm. Obvoiusly i would greatly prefer full fidelity versions. I hope we will see them in the future.

FC3 is my stand in for a FF DCS F-15C. Its secondary purpose is a stand in for DCS Su-27 and MiG-29.

Not to open a can of worms here, but full fidelity modules also suffer from many "FC3" simplifications:
- auto-start sequence option
- perfect RWR (not all, but many)
- simplified A2A radar (can discriminate between targets at any range; I think all)

Just to name a few.

Autostart isn't a simplification, and at this point the best RWR and radars are all found in FF planes.

There are many simplifications in DCS and modules are not made equally but generally FF simulate much more systems and much more in depth, and they don't have obvious FC3 limitations like lack of radio control or navigation systems.

Afaik RWR simulation is best on the F-14. Radar (including distant targets coupling, fake returns) is excellent on F-15E, M-2000C and F-14. Autostart is just an option like many others: invulnerability, unlimited fuel or ammo...

Regarding the thread's question:

- mostly because, it is the best PC sim (on all aspects) where a MiG-29 A is featured;

- besides, it also comes with the F-15C and Su-27;

- the A-10 also attracts me a bit.

Short answer is that I get to fly the F-15C, Su-27/J-11, Su-25 and Mig-29.

The odds of us getting a full-fidelity Su-27 or J-11 are near zero right now so the FC3 platforms are a nice substitute. The F-15C is still quite deadly and I like having the extended legs and ability to pick and chose fights without worrying too much about fuel.
