  6. I just wanted to thank ED for what they've created. I was showing off DCS to some colleagues this week, and their reactions made me realize how you just start taking for granted how awesome it is when you use it so often. This one title has brought me more enjoyment than every other software package I've ever bought ... combined. It's so incredible that it's truly life-changing, and I can say without any reservation that it's improved the quality of my life. Every single day, I can't wait until 6pm so I can fire it up and do something completely new that I've never done before. Thanks ED, for making this available during my lifetime. And that's all I've got to say about that.

Because with the size stated above And including both London and Paris which we know are included in the Normandy 2.0 map, the area covers looks like this, which clearly covers the area in the channel map as well. Granted it remains to be seen if we are right or not, BUT I can’t see any other reason why ownership of the Channel map would get you a discount on a 3rd partys map otherwise. IF it didn’t make the Channel map redundant there would be no need to award owners of that map a discount. BUT I guess only time will tell.

  10. I along with others have got to a point that we won't spend another penny on DCS until Vulkan is released. I get that Rome wasn't built in a day, but I along with many others have literally spent thousands on a gaming rig to play DCS. So to still be on 2 cores in 2022 is just beyond a joke and it's driven many away from DCS.

So its been a while since I made a request for this to be added to MP, and whilst we wait for a vanilla solution: You can mod this into the FA-18C.lua with a single line change. line 791 reads net_animation, if you add 99 to the bottom of the following list it will make your head nods be seen by anyone looking at your aircraft in MP. PS. ED pls, this is such a simple change. Please can we have it in the vanilla version.

  13. I always wished that DCS had persistent damage for the aircraft we fly. In other words, the state of our aircraft is saved even after we logged off. That way, running pre flight checks and tests would be more meaningful when we join a server each time. And this way, we can really feel like we own that particular aircraft

  14. In case the link didn't work right, skip to 36:08 I've been looking to pics forever, but found footage instead. From above timestamp on is a Grumman film of ACEVAL/AIMVAL, including footage, interviews with crew, sideburns, and moustaches. The ACEVAL/AIMVAL crew were made up from VF-1 and VF-2 folks from the first cruise primarily, who were attached to VX-4 for the exercise. Roger Ball! has a pretty good section about the prep work as "Hawk" Smith was XO at TOPGUN at the time and helped prep the Blue Team Tomcat crews and the Navy/Marine side of the Red Team as well. Big things to note in the vid, the pilots are wearing VTAS II helmets, and you can see the sensors along the edges of the canopy rail. These allowed for them to use the PLM on the throttle to get a lock while up to apparently 40 degrees off the nose. The F-15s in the exercise had them as well, but as seen neither the Navy nor Air Force chose to continue their use afterwards. Apparently cost being a big factor, the weight/bulk of the helmet being secondary. The third factor is that apparently VSL-HI mode gave the F-14 80-90% of the capability of VTAS without the need for the extra gear. Other big discussion, TCS. Especially during the workups per Roger Ball! the Tomcats were absolutely flaying the F-5s alive because they were fighting as they actually would have, hammering them from far off by using TCS to get their VID and then firing. Ultimately ACEVAL/AIMVAL is what triggered the AIM-120, the desire for launch/leave because the F-5Es with AIM-9Ls could still get face shots when the Tomcats and Eagles were forced to get visual ID and guide their Sparrows all the way. Oh, and I found this coffee mug that just might be related to someone who was part of all this and CO of VF-2 around '82 and then CO of TOPGUN when Top Gun was filmed. Guess I have to do some Farris VX-4 ACEVAL/AIMVAL skins someday:

  18. we have 2 hurricane IICs painted up for BBMF use, theres a mod in the works but they need coders for a flight model, really doesnt fly like a hurricane at the moment but it works for videos and screenshots

  19. DCS is new enough to be somewhat modular, though, which means you don't have to touch legacy code - you can chuck it outright, but only if you have a replacement handy. This is what ED is doing now, there's absolutely zero DX12 code that can be transferred to Vulkan, it's a whole other paradigm. This is also why you see systems replaced the way they are, it's not worth trying to fix the old AI, old ATC and so on. Rather, they're replacing those systems with completely new ones. Making a new engine from scratch would be more or less the same thing, TBH, only it couldn't be done in stages.

  20. noted. you obviously feel you have to justify yourself. thats ok. where i am from it is a right we enjoy. i will not ignore the thread. that would be shortsighted. i like to help others get their system sorted. when a fix is found, i will keep track and offer it to others when they ask for help. DCS is a great game and its a shame that there are bugs. though after all it is a public beta. it is a wonder that any of this works in the first place.

  22. You can. You can select a vehicle from the F10 map and press Alt+J and you will enter the vehicle while the AI will fly your aircraft. Switching back can be done the same way without changing slots, at least in SP. In the menue where you can select how many roles (Game master, Tactical commander etc.) the option "player can drive" or similar does that for you. Enabling that option will allow you to join a vehicle while you are in an aircraft. But I'm not sure if that's also the case for MP, but it definitly is that for SP. Just tried it in MP, unfortunately, this method does not work there anymore, only in SP.

  27. That would be even better, because I'd rather have one map to "rule them all", than several smaller, adjacent ones clogging up valuable SSD space. Also, a lot more potential for larger, longer-range missions (more "natural" bomber escort). Now I'm hoping for Syria 2, which should include Iraq, and maybe overlap somewhat with the upcoming Sinai map.

  30. Thank you very much, Joe! I hope we can get to the bottom of this freezing issue soon, so you all can enjoy the campaigns again, as you should. BTW, if you go to your missions and campaigns folder, you can simply play the next mission and rather go like that, so you dont have to replay each mission over and over again when it freezes. You will find it in your main DCS install Mods\aircraft\F14\Missions\Campaigns and then either SC or non SC version folder of Reforger. Like that you can at least continue playing, even if the freezes cause you to "fail" a mission. Thank you again for taking the time and sharing the log!

  32. practice hard and you´ll see. I have less hours in the Viper than in the Hornet (i´m more a carrier ops guy) and i started from zero and went to hero. Usually if i do a free flight or weapons employment training mission i "oblige" myself to do always a AAR for keep profiency, i´m always practicing despite i´m feel confident in Viper AAR (i try harder scenarios with night AAR with bad weather etc). В новой версии Ка-50 III будет имитироваться газодинамическая неустойчивость при стрельбе НАРами, на малых скоростях. Можно получить заглохший двигатель или даже оба. Ограничение по перегрузке ракет сделано у L-39 к примеру. Ограничений по перегрузке на пуск AIM-120 я что-то не помню.

  35. If you can get a hold of that GAO report, that could be good evidence. FYI, static friction doesn't matter much for things that are on wheels (at least as far as getting moving goes, static friction is how wheels get traction) - it's primarily the bearing resistance that has to be overcome, and that tends to be rather low. There's also rolling resistance, but it comes from tire deformation, not from friction (that's one reason why trains roll so well, steel wheels don't deform much), and it doesn't care if you're just starting to move or not. Also, brakes, not breaks.

Flying at night with thevHip and Hindvis every time breathtaking [emoji1787] Me and my friends managed to capture a base, then the bad luck played against me, got dc and my hind crashed and with my hip on the second landing to unload the troops I was hitted by something high in the sky above the base, with the AAA that start shooting shortly after (next time better before... I present a mod to improve the rain inside the cockpit, surely I will be able to improve it, as a clarification there are 2 files requesting the VR or Monitor system, since both (I do not know if it is a problem or if it really works like that) renders differently . In VR the dynamic drops are not present hopefully ED take note and improve this problem. Don't get me to manage to make it look its best. This is an old ED campaign from the Lock-On 2 era, circa 2004 … if you are using it with FC3 then you are enjoying the work of a user who converted it for DCS, he did two versions, with Su-25A and Su-25T .. they can still be downloaded here:

  44. So, like many, since the new flak, damage and map options, I have decided to work back through the various Spitfire campaigns ending with this one. Today I went up for the second mission, a large fighter sweep against Richoffen's lot. We hit the merge, aircraft everywhere with me quickly sliding to the rear of a 190. I gave chase but after several seconds I broke off, more concerned with staying alive and turning into a second aircraft I wasn't aware was lining up to shoot. After a brief 2 circle with him he went vertical and I got a no deflection shot at almost point-blank range. The first hit must have hit the fuel tank or something as I was blinded flying through a fireball. Rolling to the left I could see flames already pouring from underneath the stricken 190 and I pulled back into a tight circle looking for the next target. After several unsuccessful encounters I got onto the tail of 3 aircraft. The lead a 190, the other 2 spits. One managed to clip him and he started spitting oil. The FW slowed and pulled left making the spits overshoot and putting me in a perfect position. Half a second late, he two was flaming and as I broke off i spotted another 190 diving towards me. I turned into him, spoiling his shot and as we passed he dived away. A snap roll and I was diving after him. Catching up as he started to pull out of the dive I got a good second burst the nose to stern, right through centre mass. He again started to dive and piled straight in. By this time I was low, fast and unable to see anyone else. Deciding I had already used up much of my luck I pointed my nose for home and hedge hopped to the coast before climbing back up to about 10,000 and getting the engine into a more economic state. The channel never felt so big and I was registering just under 10 gallons when the Isle of White came into view. Landing back on fumes I had that feeling of wow! This is what I have read about! This is as close as I can get to what they went through! The kills I could imagine seeing in the old camera footage. This is why I love DCS. This is why I love the campaigns Reflected makes and I just wanted to share. I know it's just a game, I know it's not real but, right now, it feels a memorable sortie and in my other reality, the pixilated one, I'm already in the mess and buying the first round of the night.

  45. I, too, wanted to add my thanks and gratitude to CFrags for these A10-A training missions.. I've only completed the first couple and have been impressed with the quality and the amount of effort put in to making these. I especially like the immersion with other craft flying about and the radio chatter. These are perfect for my needs as I returned to DCS after a 3 year hiatus recently. If these had been around a few years ago maybe I wouldn't have given up! Now enjoying devouring all things DCS in the last week or two and I got some modules in the recent late May sale (I already had the A10-A from a few years ago) but added to the free Su-25T I also have the F15-C, the Mig 29 variants and the Su-33. I also dipped my toes into the water of the more 'serious' modules and got the Mirage 2000C (but I am leaving that baby for a few months time when I get my head round things). Fun times ahead! On a side note I made a video (up on yT:) of the highlights of my go at the Take Off and Joyride mission. I hope that CFrags has no issues with this?!
