Hey! Let's continue: Why is Normandy 2 released separately and what about Normandy 1944? Normandy 2 is a new map that is created on new technologies and includes a territory much larger than N1944, much more perfect and detailed. The developers of UM and ED are making it so that all users of Normandy1944 will have a free global update available that will allow them to get their N1944 map at the Normandy 2 technology level and make these maps compatible in online multiplayer scenarios. Brighton (UK) You can see more pictures in this 2 theme: What happens when a player with just Normandy 1 spawns at a field on a Normandy 2 MP server that isn't on the Normandy 1 map? All obstacles and terrain for both maps will be the same after updates. Will the internal DCS map coordinates be the same as on the prior Normandy 1944, I mean the same coordinate origin and coordinate scales? Yes, the Origin and coordinate scales remain the same. How low is low detail? If I fly from one high detailed airbase to another high detailed base but pass through a low detailed area, how jarring will it be? We are currently doing a lot of work to ensure that the Normandie2 map is friendly to all DCS users. Beachy Head This is a screenshot of a highly detailed map area. Previously, this was a "low detail zone" on the 1944 Normandy map, but now it will be available to all users with this level of detail. This will be for the users of "Normandy 1944" and for the owners of "Normandy 2". I didn't understand what would happen to my Normandy 1944? The users will not lose anything, on the contrary, they will gain. The map will receive a global update: improvements to the southern part of England will become available with a detailed coastline and original airfields, there will be an update of buildings and airfields. Also, new terrain textures have been added for England. What airfields will be on the map? In addition to the 50 airfields announced, we are already working on airfields: Orly, Dreux, Stoney Cross, Thorney Island, Croydon, Odiham. By the time of release, the number of airfields will reach 65, which is more than on the map of Syria" Funtington Airfield10 points

Don't worry, I know exactly when it'll be released, when I'm in NYC, 4000 miles from my PC!4 points

I suppose it depends on how hot and heavy you are for a particular module. If you really love the plane or chopper, you won't mind if it gets a little extra attention. I love me some Ka-50 so I'll take anything they offer. If they did all this for the Tomcat, however, I couldn't care less. But others would love it for sure. In any case, I bought the BS2 and I'm buying the BS3 when it comes out, so it's my dollars financing it and if you don't want it, you don't buy. You're off the hook.4 points

Before we became developers we were part of the DCS community as pilots, some of us are still fly in some virtual groups. There is no reason to feel superior to anyone, if you were not here to support us by following and buying our products I assure you that there would be no third party. We are all one big community. However, if I'm not mistaken on day 1 you can definitely download it as a trial ... in case the price is too high you can wait for the discounts :) unfortunately I understand that currency exchange can be quite disadvantageous in some areas of the world, I'm sorry about that. But first of all you have to think about the priorities, DCS is just a nice game... so the 339 on DCS is now present and will continue to be there, you can get it at any time :) Inviato dal mio ASUS_I005D utilizzando Tapatalk4 points

Guys, your alternative solution, using a Client install, doesn't fix the Dedicated Serveur install's problem. For your information, because I'm sure you never managed a dedicated server before, you don't gain any room on your disk, quite the opposite. Some exemples : Clean Client Install without Mods folder : 100 Go Clean Dedicated Server Install without Mods folder : 9.6 Go Client Install Caucasus Map : 16.8 Go Dedicated Server Install Caucasus Map : 10.3 Go Client Install PersianGulf Map : 33.4 Go Dedicated Server Install PersianGulf Map : 22.6 Go Client Install Syria Map : 65.6 Go Dedicated Server Install Syria Map : 33.7 Go So if I want to install only Caucasus, PG and Syria, I will have 215.8 Go on a Client install versus 165 Go on the Dedicated Server Install with all the maps. We only want the option to select the maps we want on the Dedicated Server. So stop proposing using option B when we want a change in the option A (typical internet forum reaction). P.S : And if we could manage to choose the maps on the Dedicated Server, If I want only these 3 maps, its 86.7 Go of disk space lighter. I'll let you do the math.3 points

Mb> you were absolutely correct. despite the Neo website stating support of OpenXR, the one that I’m just about to return certainly did NOT, which is frankly a bit pap. I did think that WMR headsets were obliged to support OpenXR. regardless of OpenXR, I got it working via USB cable using the Pico supplied “steaming app”. Nice and stable, good frame rate. The FOV is better than my Rift S and the sweet spot much better. However, the graphics were only marginally better than my Rift S. Using the Virtual Deskop App (which only supports wireless) frame rate was worse, latency was fine, visuals much improved. However I had just too many regular lag spikes to make it useful in DCS. Could be my local wifi, which was all of 1m away. For both wired and wireless bandwidth used was low. Virtual Desktop maxed out at 150Mbps, well within capabilities of wifi5. I do think that it “could” be a great headset if: - OpenXR support was added - the visuals via the Pico Streaming Assistant were enhanced to be on par (or better) that the VD App via USB Mine is going back as I simply don’t have the confidence that Neo will do it.3 points

Development Update for October: -App Multi-threading continues to be debugged (as expected, the move to MT caused many expected sync issues between threads and the UI) -Preset names (are now set per build slot, Presets 1-4 have unique names per build, when changing builds the Preset 1-4 Names change as well). -Huge features were added, will be revealed later, I also plan to expand on those as the new app develops. -UI Art Adjustments were made, UI Art will still be adjusted in phases during internal development as things are added, UI Art is updated for existing features/functions.3 points

I found the problem. Devrims work is wonderful. I made a mistake. I unzipped the texture package, replaced one texture tile, zipped the files again. Problem was a texture folder was created within the zip file. In other words.. .there was one extra layer and DCS couldn't acces that zipped file hence the very strange blocks, white windows in my mi8. Instead of checking my zip file I kept creating different .dds files with gimp. Well, another thing learned... Thanks for your help anyways. Cheers Jozeff3 points

I know why. The turning rotor blades are a different texture file, I had forgotten how that animation was done these days. Try this - yellow instead of white: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f0lox6kho08ajaj/Armada.zip?dl=03 points

Sure, I run the G2 on a 3080 10gb (waiting on my 4090, should come in a week or two), 64gb DDR4 3600mhz CL 16 and DCS installed on an NVMe. Initially my plan was to get the 4090 and then upgrade to AM5 when 7800X3D comes next year. But when I saw the MB and Ram prices here in Norway I decided to do a intermediary upgrade with the 5800X3D and 4090. I upgraded my ram and MB last year and didn't want to do a complete rebuild quite yet. Also, seeing Intel catching back up I didn't want to invest into a whole new AMD platform just yet. If prices fall I might upgrade late next year to AM5 or just wait for the next gen intel/amd CPUs, but I'm squeezing some more time out of the AM4 platform for now. I use OpenXR and have FSR (100%) and FFR (quality, wide) enabled, no motion reprojection. Can't remember my DCS settings on the top of my head but I can post a screenshot here later if you like. It really depends what's your issues with your current setup. If you are like me who have constant frame drops on the ground and that keeps you from playing certain content, I would say go for it. But if your settings allow you to have smooth ground ops, I would wait. This video from Lukas (Wolta) pretty much sealed it for me. 5600X having about the same performance as 5800X in DCS.3 points

The SAM threat stored as a steerpoints. Putting the HSD cursor over it and pressing TMS UP like you do with regular steerpoint should make it your waypoint. Moreover, TMS DOWN should remove the ring and then TMS UP bring it back. edit: @BIGNEWY,sent you a PM2 points

Fantastic, only good news! This post adressed all the points that I was a bit worried about from a multiplayer mission developer point of view, thank you very much! Looks like you guys are putting a lot of thought into making it easy for us to adapt the missions, that's great! I am also very excited about the addition of Dreux, which was a very important Luftwaffe base which saw multiple raids of fighter-bombers and bombers, as well as Stoney Cross as a USAAF field.2 points

Might not be a bad idea to wait. Intel 14th gen will use a new socket so if you upgrade now it’s a dead end for the next upgrade (new motherboard, etc.). For Ryzen the Zen3/AM4 platform is also a similar dead end, and for Zen4/AM5 it’s better to wait for the X3D version next year. The only reason to do it now would be pricing advantage from much cheaper components such as motherboard and DDR4 RAM from the older gen platform. The next gen motherboard pricing is really crazy now. For this Ryzen upgrade, it will cost me around $600 (cpu, mobo, cooler). However, had I chose the new Intel route with DDR5 it would’ve costed me around $1500 (CPU, mobo, cooler, RAM) using decent components.2 points

Been messing around since I got it, and my Asus TUF 4090 card so far has been an overclocking monster hitting stable 3000 MHz boost (+230) with temp below 70 not to mention quieter than my CPU AIO fans. The only two games that can benefit from overclocking so far has been DCS and MSFS, everything else just show flattened GPU frametime graphs. In 2D games (especially Unity engine ones) that my 3090 struggled to maintain 60 fps, the 4090 just crushed through with brute force.2 points

Let's be honest: if it was already 'nothing', users wouldn't have created this thread right after current regression came in. Devs were notified earlier that the VR is missing part of the raindrops effect. I'll bump the initial report.2 points

Proof right here we're all different. Removing all curves made it a lot easier for me to do every aspect of flying the VIper. AAR is just easy now with some practice ofcourse. As a suggestion to whoever struggle with AAR in the VIper. Just remove all curves and deadzones and practice constant micro adjusting. Dont ever stop moving your arms and feet.2 points

FWIW I'm fairly certain that the top picture at least has been tweaked significantly. Checking levels in photoshop you can see that there's a lot of data in all of the color channels that's pegged at 255, i.e. completely saturated. Definitely suggests that the color saturation has been significantly bumped up at some point. The bottom picture has pretty much no signs of that, and looks pretty natural.2 points

If you manage to get the BS2 shot up it shows internals all ready. It just get’s improved. I know trust me, I get shotup a lot!2 points

I gotta say, if you're looking to build a solid rep you are going about it in the right way. I have the 339 in the civvy sim, it was my first 'personal sized" fast mover. Enjoyed it very much. I would imagine with some guns and the inevitably tighter DCS FM, it could well be a lot of fun. Bring 'er on!2 points

I can see both sides of the argument here. We all want this module to be realistic. I also want to enjoy it and to be able to get a hit with the AIM54, but that is extremely difficult now, even under good conditions. When past updates have come along, it has taken time to re-learn the missile and what it can do. With this update, I have been unable to figure out how to get any hits with it. It just always misses, no matter what I do. The AIM54 may be kinetically modelled realistically now, but now there's a glaring issue. Are other module's modelled as realistically as the F14 and the AIM54? What about the AI? It's obvious that the AI is not modelled realistically at all. Sometimes, they never run out of energy and can do maneuvers that are not possible, have perfect SA, chaff and flare work from a roll of the dice system, etc. Everything in DCS should be at the same level of realism, or this is a playability issue. HB has done an amazing job with the F14 and I love the module. I just wish everything was on the same page with regards to realism.2 points

That's what I meant, there were already a lot of smaller updates and improvements over the last years. The rockets are far from useless, especially since with the introduction of the Apache there (finally) was a fix to the incredible resilience of infantry and ED fixed the "armor"/health. Now, rockets work as area weapons, against infantry, they deal noticeable damage to unarmored and lightly armored vehicles, resulting often in kills for unarmored stuff and damage to armored stuff, cumulative and up to the point where a 4-8 rocket barrage has a more realistic impact. This combined with the random critical damage effects, like immobilisation etc. gives us pretty believable effects, without a direct hit. Though to have an instant kill, you still need one or two rockets actually hitting a BTR, M113 or the like, or cumulate enough damage, through multiple rockets landing close. The problem with the hyper accurate BMP gunners is still valid, though. The positive thing is, though it is a painfully slow process, there is work done on these things in the background. Unfortunately these are often introduced silently, without even a notice in the Changelogs. When I tested the infantry path finding a while ago, to check on some issues, not only was the path finding way(!) better, than years ago, but my jaw dropped, like in a Tex Avery cartoon, when I noticed the Infantry in line abreast formation using basic fire and maneuver tactics with bounding overwatch. 8 rifleman group, 4 hold and fire, while 4 advance, then switch. I had tears of joy in my eyes... and it wasn't even one line in the changelog or newsletter. Again, I am aware, there is still lot of room for improvement in the damage modeling and weapon effects, but we have progress and the current results improved considerably, to the point where rockets and aircraft guns(!) now do their job.2 points

Thanks! Haven't had the chance to try out yours yet. It looks really nice too Any meaningful change to the 3d model will come later alongside other "accessories" for the different variants. Next update will just include the new skins and the new folder structure made by eddie. @crazyeddieGorgeous liveries, thanks a lot! Get well soon mate. Looking forward to yours to @Neo47 Work on the ship pack continues, it's more consequent than I thought. LODs, collision models and night lighting, not particulary thrilling but I'm getting there. I might release other stuff in the meantime, tho. I did some cleanup in my mod folder and realised there were quite a few mods necessiting minimal work before being ready to ship.2 points

HB's tight lid on information is a smart move considering certain other 3rd parties reveal things way to early and creates frustration within the community. And since its called "the phantom" it fits that it remains hidden until it suddenly appears. I dont know why but this whole thing sort of gives me flashbacks to Helo games handling of No mans sky. After a really rushed release and terrible reviews they just went dark no contact whats so ever and after a few updates, no mans sky was suddenly good and delivered more then initially promised.2 points

The J never got the slats. Early S models didn't have them either but were later retrofitted with them. The Slat setup on the Navy S was different than that installed on the E/F/G's.2 points

I honestly can't imagine running any more pixels than the G2 until 1. Multithread - CPU frame time is right on the squeaky limit already 2. Vulkan - because once CPU frame time comes down, the pressure goes back on the GPU and DX11 is.... ancient and predates VR. 2. Something with similar rasterisation scores to the 4090 arrives for ~£750 In other words, I don't see my G2 as the limitation of my VR experience right now.2 points

Hey IronMike, you might be unable to comment on this currently, but I remember y’all gave us an update, I think it was on your Facebook page back in July, and one of the comments on it mentioned y’all were working on the ALR-45 sounds, which when done was one of the last major hurtles for the Early F-14A, and Iranian version. How is that work going?2 points

DCS: Kola Map Introduction In collaboration with Orbx Simulation Systems, we are excited to announce the development of a new terrain module: the Kola Peninsula. Orbx has over 15 years of experience creating highly detailed scenery and airports for flight simulation platforms. For Russia, the mostly ice-free ports of the Murmansk area, home of the Northern Fleet, are of immense strategic importance. Thus, the narrow land corridor from the Kola Peninsula to central Russia has evolved into dense clusters of military airfields and bases. Similarly, the northern areas of Norway, Sweden, and Finland mirror the military and economic importance of this peninsula, with significant bases for all branches of the respective armed forces and extensive training ranges hosting key exercises for western alliances. The Kola map will cover more than 550,000 square kilometers of land across northern Scandinavia and northwestern Russia, plus large sections of the Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea for naval operations. Detailed airbases, included with the initial release of the Kola Map, will be Bodø, Bardufoss, Evenes, Rovaniemi, Luleå, Vidsel, Monchegorsk, Olenya, Severomorsk-1 and -3, and others. They will be modeled in their contemporary configuration. Beyond airfields, many of the important army and naval bases, test ranges, radar and storage sites will be added, as well as the entire road and railroad network. Civilian POIs will also be represented, including key buildings, bridges, hydro dams, power plants, port facilities, and vertical obstructions. Dramatic fjords and glaciers, with the many islands, creates an interesting coastline. The lake-studded taiga forests and arctic tundra complete the natural beauty of this region. Both Summer and Winter versions of the Kola map are planned. The Orbx team is collaborating with experienced DCS campaign creators Baltic Dragon and Reflected Simulations to create engaging F/A-18C and F-16C campaigns at launch.2 points

DCS: C-130J Announcement Although the C-130 first entered service nearly 70 years ago, the airframe has been continually updated, culminating with the delivery of the J model in 1999. Watch the teaser. The ‘J’ is a modernized variant that features a glass cockpit, air-to-ground radar, FMS, and computerized airdrop capabilities designed to reduce crew workload. Exciting additional variants are planned in the near future, including the KC versions. This will offer player to player aerial refueling, another first in DCS.2 points
