This guy made a airquake PvP server with 60 tik tok users battling to infinity and now thinks everyone thinks like he does, he is a good video maker that's for sure. But he is forgetting not everyone wants a balanced PvP game, there are other games that go for that. I think that many many people fly in DCS cause of high fidelity of those FF planes and we love it. I really enjoy just taking off with full preparation from Nellis and going for a course around Nevada fly to tanker and drop few bombs and return to base, with as much procedure following as I can and know how to do. I don't need adversary balanced for this. And If I encounter adversaries I don't expect them to be on pair with my jet, they have their advantage and I have mine and I try to use my advantage as best as I can. In real world there is never a fair fight and that's what DCS simulates. I love to loiter in the air coordinate with and wait for SEAD/DEAD flight to do its job so I can run in drop 2 JDAMS on some bunker that is my target. sometimes it will take an hour, in the meantime I'll watch the air battle on my HSD or SA page and cheer when red contact fades from being shot down by our escort. Or I'll do the SEAD/DEAD job while other flights prepare to run in. I love modern jets cause of lots of systems I can fiddle with inside them, and I'm happy with every new update to them. We all know documentation is hard to come by, and that module development takes a lot of time and we are fine with it. That's what I love about DCS, and that is why I'm here and I'm sure many others are too.21 points

Full Fidelity isn’t holding back DCS. Full Fidelity is DCS. MAC is going to be a separate game from what I understand so it has little to do with DCS except as a starter sim.14 points

Reading smear posts from Thinder it looks like only French guys has possession of universal true and they are the only guys that have studied aerodynamics. Well, comparing former Spanish Mirage F1 pilots experience with someone that has flown light aircraft is easy to understand his own conclusions. Please, don't make false statements to descredit Aerges amazing work. Yes, as consumer that pays your modules you have right to certain amount of things, but not everything. This is an early access module, like almost all we have in DCS, so think again in your rights. Viper FCS suffered a big overhaul last year and till that time I dont remember anybody criticizing the module so much, and IIRC, continue being EA. Apart from my job as fighter pilot, real one, I have been flying DCS a lot of years and almost all modules. Im sure that F1 FM is one of the most accurate, close to manuals and performance tables but continue in progress, like other different modules. I'm tired of repeating in forums and discord servers that there are lot of people that want Mirage F1 be something that is unreal. This module requires good pilot skills to fly it properly, good Hotas setup and know his limitations in order to exploit this machine properly. I'm sorry so much that company developing this is Spanish one, I know that for you guys this is the main problem and reason to criticize the module. I want to congratulate Aerges for his amazing work and profesionalism of people working there and I hope that they continue working this way. P.D: I would ask to moderators to ban that kind of destructive and smear posts. Enviado desde mi SM-G981B mediante Tapatalk10 points

Enigma, thank you for your contributions to the DCS community, your Youtube channel and MP servers; however, I disagree with the "Full Fidelity Is a Trap & It's Holding Back DCS" claim. To answer your question in the video, there exists no number of low fidelity planes that I would trade for a single high fidelity plane like the Hornet: quality over quantity all the way.6 points

It might be a nice project. We’ll see. Yep. The DCS core assets have a rather high radar threshold. If I align these kind of hard to detect assets with core game assets every old SAM will also detect and defeat them. But I always strive for realism, so I will look into this for the next version. It’s definitely possible. Yep, after the booster launch. Since the asset is very small and light it retain its speed a bit before slowing down. Great! I love these kind of smaller assets too. Correct. It’s quite the struggle to implement a realistic flight profile for these kind of small and very slow assets. Since it starts at high speed, need to reach flight altitude and then go very slow for a long distance without falling from the sky. And then find its target and perform a stable dive.6 points

It's almost as if people do not research or know much about the planes that they claim to love in here. Add to it the unnecessary comparisons of other aircraft. This is an EA module and yet people are putting her in the hangar complaining already. Before that it was all "Release the Kraken." My oh my! This is an awesome module. Thank you RAZBAM.5 points

Hey folks! The SE is out, the F-4 looms just beyond the horizon. The long watch is almost over… Possibly. For this reason, I wanted to get a bit more familiar with the Phantom II, and I started with taking a look at the cockpits. The DCS F-4E is not out yet, the old screenshots from Belsimtek are not great, so I have found an alternative, and put together a quick video. Moving the first steps with a new aeroplane is never easy, especially if the game does not match either. I have used MilViz's F-4 for FSX, and this seems to be a DVST Phantom, whereas I am looking forward to the later upgrades, to fit in the best period DCS can imo replicate (late 70s, early 80s). Nevertheless, the difference should not be huge, and this is a good means of familiarising with the cockpit. I am sure there are errors in the video, as I am brand new to the Phantom and I have spent only a dozen hours studying the documentation. So, if you have observations, please do share them, and I will put the corrections in the comments. Thanks! UPDATE 10/07/2023: GUNS & SLATS The F-4E featured two peculiar upgrades that separate it from the predecessors and its Navy brothers: the presence of an internal gun, and the nre wing supporting leading-edge slats. UPDATE 14/07/2023: AIR-TO-AIR WEAPONS EMPLOYMENT An overview of the basic avionics and instrumentation required to employ AIM-7 Sparrow, AIM-9 Sidewinder and the M61A1 20mm Vulcan. UPDATE 23/07/2023: RADAR BASICS & CONTROLS The details of the Radar Set Control Panel, and the purpose of the instruments here installed. UPDATE 03/08/2023: RADAR QUIRKS & FEATURES A discussion about some cool features of the radar and avionics, such as the nutating antenna pattern, or the Computer Automatic Acquisition mode. UPDATE 17/08/2023: AIR-TO-AIR INTERCEPTS - THEORY A two-parts refresher on the basic concepts useful to intercept and engage a target with the F-4E Phantom II. This first video covers the theory. UPDATE 29/08/2023: AIR-TO-AIR INTERCEPTS - PRACTICE The second part of the Air-to-Air Intercepts sees some practical examples using the F-14's DDD B-Scope in Pulse mode.4 points

Hi Enigma, the question Is not addressed to me , but let me state my oppinion: The problem there is that the person flying a n FC3 plane is "playing" by other set of rules, easy procedures, "magic" radars, etc... Now the problem in a CW scenario diminishes since there are less radars and RWRs systems and complex missiles. If I may, you might be confusing interest for the CW era with interest with better and/or more "easy gameplay". I love analog early tech era, mainly 60s to 80s. but I also need and love as real as it gets, not simplified mass of planes with a little variation in some table. for that we do have War Thunder or even IL-2 General survey sims, with lots of content. DCS is a Study sim, it might not be coherent it might have huge gaps, but each module is done as best as it can be done in a consumer PC. That is what we buy when we buy a DCS module. For light sims, you have War Thunder, and you will have MAC. Don´t take away our GRAIL, to transform it into what you want.. specially when you DO have options, and we DON´T have any other "as real as it gets", Full Fidelity Sim on consumer platforms out there. Microprose did go bankrupt when they developed Falcon 4.0 (full fid. + lots of content + dynamic campaign: 1 plane. DCS might not be anywhere near perfect but its what we have for now regarding Full Fidelity. THAT is the essence of DCS. it has been since Black Shark. And you are saying its essence its its main predicament. or problem... Sorry, can´t agree. I Enjoy your servers because it is as real as it gets with what we have. Change that to an all FC3 server and you will lose me at least as a pilot. I don´t play to kill planes, Y play to feel like a pilot, not to feel like a GAMER playing with planes. Yes i use a GAME, but that game is my tool to feel like a pilot for a little while.4 points

If I had any knowledge of skill I would do it myself. But I don't But as someone who makes not very good dcs youtube vidoes and likes doing helicopter stuff. I really miss cold war infantry, I would love Vietnam infantry but I understand that's kinda useless with no Vietnam map and the closest we'll come to a Vietnam map in th next 5 years is ww2 Marinas. But cold war European and cold war Middle East models would be awesome (we don't even have modern Middle East infantry) So I'm just asking, that if someone out there like to 3d model as a hobby mabye they could for fun, work on some 60-80 style generic infantry. Almost anything would be an improvement over the current stuff we have. Something that doesn't look completely out of place when you are picking them up in in a Huey or MI8, or blowing them up with cold war aircraft.4 points

The general assumption that we would all want more low fidelity aircraft on over less high fidelity is just his opinion presented as fact. I couldn't disagree more with this. He makes a great CW server but the consistent videos about DCS "gaps" and "playability" is rediculous. It's clear he doesn't have any clue about friendly co-op play or even.... Single player... These are popular, probably more popular. In fact it seems that flying airliners and GA aircraft is even more popular. Each to thier own, stop trying to split the community up.4 points

I find it very hard to fly something else now that I have the F-15E. Even the mighty Tomcat sits in the hangar now. I am having so much fun with this, and the cockpit feels amazing in VR. As someone else already stated in another post, think of the F-15E as being in an early '90s state at the moment. You can do Desert Storm-era missions just fine with the current state of the module I hope the priority bugfixes are the gun pipper and the inconsistent accuracy of AUTO-bombing. Other than that, the state of the module is very very very good in my opinion!4 points

you realize it is early access right? it was released 12 days ago. just like every other module that has been in early access, it will improve over time. i find it gratifying to just try what is available now. and to fly it at 200 ft at 750 knots.4 points

I just saw the following video by Engima he's basically asking for MAC. We've not heard anything about MAC so I am under the impression that ED may have quietly killed it. The video I believe sums up why I hope MAC is still being worked on. I have said it before I would love to see the following things for MAC. limited clickability- I think this would help improve VR to have at least flaps and gear handles to be clickable modularity - similar to DCS. MAC exclusive modules - if we lack the documents or a developer feels they lack the resources we'll still get the vehicle. I think this could result in some people buying MAC modules and DCS Combined Arms style ground and naval modules- this would open up at aspect to the ecco system Use the same assets and maps- the main reasons would be the next two wishes but it could lead to faster development AC/ DCS online games - This could be an option for someone setting up a server. An easy way to convert missions and campaigns between the two. Ideally, I'd just want a bit of code that automatically converts the two so that the campaign developers and sell the same product for both products3 points

Version 20230705 Download: (ED Files) Summary A mission to sharpen your TACAN air navigation abilities with random-generated TACAN approaches. This mission assumes that you know the principles of TACAN nav, and gives you ample opportunities to perfect them: approach a TACAN on the designated radial and keep within 1 degree to pass. This single/multiplayer mission supports all TACAN-capable modules OVERVIEW TACAN air navigation is a fun and - on carrier and airfield approaches - crucial ability for pilots. This mission allows players to hone their TACAN approach skills with randomly-spawned TACAN units. SUPPORTED MODULES F/A-18 Hornet Jeff F-15E (Echo, not Charlie) Tiger (nice to have you back, old friend!) F-14 F-16 Harrier A-10C (Charlie) C101 MB-339 Mirage 2000 Mirage F1 There's a hot, cold, and airborne slot for each module. HOW TO PLAY It's a great day to train your TACAN prowess. Enter your favorite airframe, and when you are ready, request a new TACAN exercise via Communications-->Other You will receive a randomized TACAN designation and code (e.g "VTE 13X", and a CRS (e.g. "275°"). Your goal is simple: approach and fly over the TACAN at exactly the CRS heading that was assigned for the exercise. Do not approach the TACAN closer than 2km on a different heading, or you will fail the exercise. The mission provides subtle aural feedback when you are on the correct radial and heading to make this more comfortable. Once you approach the TACAN within 2km, your course and radial are checked against the target heading. If you are off by more than one degree for either radial or course, you fail the exercise. If you find yourself too far from the next TACAN for your comfort, you can request a new exercise at any time. Exercises are assigned to individual players/aircraft (multi-crew aircraft receive one exercise at the time) and will remain with them through different aircraft. Should you change slots with an active exercise, you can contine the exercise with the new aircraft. SINGLE AND MULTIPLAYER This mission fully supports multiplayer. Cold, hot and air slots provided for all aircraft EYE CANDY CONTROL This mission uses stopGap to fill empty player slots with beautiful uncontrolled representations of the aircraft that a player can choose. If this overwhelms your GPU, you can turn off this feature by choosing EYE CANDY from the Communications-->Other menu. WEATHER: - FEW/SCT 8/10 - SCT 23/24 Slight Winds Enjoy, -ch3 points

One of the folks in our squad (Royal Waffles) found this...you can load bombs, then take off WITHOUT adding them to PACS (A2G Armament) and the jet will fly as if it is clean (achieving M1.5+), then while in flight, if you add the bombs to PACS, the jet will suddenly slow down, which suggests that the drag of the bombs is not modeled until they are identified in the armament page. This video shows the F-15E at M1.53, then when the CBUs/etc are entered into the armament page, the speed begins to decrease without any adjustment to the throttle. This can be exploited by flying to the AO "drag free", then entering the armament just before attacking, saving fuel/etc.3 points

Looking at sever stats (Blue Flag) the FC3 planes are not on top, the F-15C ranks lower than the M-2000C despite its Fox3 capability (and it’s real world ranking). So it doesn’t look like FC3 has any advantage here. Actually it’s the reverse. Of course pilot skill of course has something to do with this.3 points
-
This is bunk. While it will be great to bring the FC3 sensors up to part with FF modules, FF modules have been doing perfectly well against FC3 aircraft in pretty much every way. And that is because nothing in those FC3 modules is magical in any way. In a number of ways those FC3 modules perform worse than they would if they had an FF counterpart, and an easiest way to show that is the bricks on the eagle radar that won't move when you make a turn. It's a really basic thing which makes life harder despite the whole 'FC3 players have it so easy' propaganda. How about TWS? Yep, it tracks like SWT which is wrong, but the moment you even think 'notch' it goes 'I give up'. So yep, FC3 sensors are modeled on a simpler level, but the basics of their operation and capability remain on a reasonably similar level. The weapons? They're the same so that capability is identical, so you can fly respectable BVR tactics against them, and with high quality flight models you can prosecute a dogfight just as well as you should expect. So I would like to understand why you have that opinion despite the facts, or are these facts just being interpreted in a different way?3 points

@ThinderAerges has two real former mirage f1 pilots making test every day, one of them has 3200 hours in mirage F1 CE, EE, and M versions between 1981 to 1998 and 2004 to 2007. He was Tester Mirage F1 pilot and instructor in Mirage F1B version, The other pilot has more than 1000 hours and he was tester and instructor. Aerges has the best pilots for making this aircraft real in SIM, if both pilots are agree with Performance charts Aerges has to be happy with their job. And of course if many people can help AERGES with other suggestion it will be great.3 points

This is fixed internally now, I am not sure about starting an air start right next to a bomber, but you should not be able to casually fly up right next to a bomber without getting shot up. I hope to see the fix in the next patch.3 points

This helicopter is only about 2500 lbs of empty weight, right?... My Sa342 has 4313235234234 lbs with the latest patch. "Ok, reduce your fuel at 50%"...not a solution. In my case I can't access to the 100% power in the t/off or hover (they stop about the 80 or 90% of power), only with speed I can access to the 100%, this is normal in this holicopter? The power control it's imprecise, very imprecise, and I tried to change of my joystick curves and I've the same problem. Anyone having the same problem? Bad for me, I'm like a child with a broken toy, but maybe I don't know how to play with him, this possibility it's on the table.3 points
-
@Phantom_Mark good to know! I hope you find it works well with the new stick too and can report back your impressions. @Thinder I reply to you just to clarify a couple of things but I don't get the impression that your criticism is intended to be constructive. Developing a module for DCS is a massive undertaking, teams are generally rather small and sometimes some things have to be prioritised over others, so sometimes things have to be adjusted after release, that is what EA is for. For us, release was a point in which the module was ready enough for it to be an enjoyable experience for the users and for them to provide valuable insight into bugs, useful features... We have used the time since release to continue working with our SMEs feedback and with the customer's feedback to solve any possible problems, bugs, things that didn't work, or that we had missed or had been broken during development (also happens). Regarding the anonimity of your sources. It's understandable that you want to protect their identities but again, not useful for us if we don't get more precise feedback, if we can't contrast their feedback to that of our current SMEs... If any of them wants to contact us instead of you giving their details, we're also happy doing it in this way. Finally regarding the wing loading discussion. I just don't get your point... I said in certain regimes and fuel configurations, not everywhere all the time. I included the disclaimer that my knowledge of the performance of the other aircraft is incomplete. And the MiG 21 has 23 m^2 of wing surface and comparable thrust so I don't know why the wing surface of the Mirage III or the Mirage 2000 would matter.3 points

A lot of what you describe as gameplay you enjoy is what happens on the server you seem to despise. Pairing up with some friends doing SEAD/DEAD and then going in yourself, under escort cover, to take out the main target is a thing that happens regularly on ECW.2 points

I was trialing the gazelle pre update to updated version so the new ‘lack in power’ characteristics was very apparent for me. But they are saying not to compare the new FM to the old FM and to take 50% fuel, that it is pretty accurate So… But yes to me it does feel rather underpowered when compared to the other DCS helos esp when w/o translational lift.2 points

Folks appreciate it seems like a long project development, but the team is bringing features to DCS that have never been seen before and it will take time. We are currently testing directors on the deck and we will share more news when ready. thank you for your patience.2 points

Rule of thumb is 1000 lbs of fuel and ordnance for every 1000 feet of runway you are landing on. So if its a 9000 foot runway, combined fuel plus ordnance should be no more than 9000 lbs. Take that as your MAXIMUM landing weight, recommended is probly less than 5000 lbs combined fuel and ordnance. You have a fuel dump switch that will dump ~1000 lbs a minute, so use that to help get down to a good landing weight if you find yourself with too much. Fly a 20-22 unit AOA final approach with the flaps down. Flare at 50 feet AGL using the radar altimeter and the tape on the side of the hud. If you are floating in the flare crack the speedbrake to get the jet to settle on to the runway. Normal technique used all the time in the real thing.2 points
-
@Harley Davidson do you have any hard evidence to support your claims? The FM has been validated against performance data and tested by multiple F1 pilots with thousands of hours on the real aircraft. That being said, the aircraft can outturn any of its contemporary counterparts in-game when flown to its strengths. It can carry a lot of fuel for its size but going into a dogfight with the tanks full is probably not the best idea. Its strengths are good energy retention and good acceleration at high speeds, so it likes to stay fast. Nevertheless, if you find yourself going slow, it's imperative to use combat flaps, otherwise the performance loss is very significant. Pitch sensitivity can also be an issue. The aircraft works better at lower AoA and when the pilot is gentle on the stick. Make sure you have the 'Emulation of effects of stick forces on aircraft behaviour' option selected in the special menu and tweak the sliders below it in case you use FFB. Otherwise also play with curves if needed. Also, all this applies to flying against a human in MP, the performance of the SFM of AI aircraft is always far better than the PFM of the one you are flying. Hopefully this will be fixed by the implementation by ED of what they call the GFM (check the most recent newsletter). Again, the module is in EA and the FM has been tweaked multiple times after the release but we're happy with how realistic it is now and we'd need more specific evidence than just saying 'it flies like a wet fart when you pull the stick', like a specific performance issue at a certain regime...2 points
