Chuck's Guide to the Mirage F1 is finally available! Both the Mirage F1CE and F1EE variants are covered. The page count is 570+ pages. *** Link: https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/mirage-f1/ *** In typical canadian fashion, I feel I must once again apologize for taking so long to complete this project. This aircraft is dear to my heart, and I did not want to cut any corners, which once again expanded the scope of this document way beyond what I had originally planned. C'est la vie. The Mirage F1 is a fantastic Cold War era fighter... the second the afterburner kicks in and you start flying at treetop level at breakneck speeds, you'll understand why this widely exported aircraft was loved by its pilots. The exhilarating sense of speed is something truly special, and you will definitely see why this aircraft is easy to learn but hard to master. I hope this document will be able to bring new players up to speed quickly and garner interest for this beautiful yet deadly french "pointu". Happy reading, and bonne lecture! Chuck8 points

Thanks guys, glad you like the updates. I'll always keep my older campaigns as up to date as possible without a complete redesign. As I keep learning new tricks I'll keep implementing them where possible. I'll never abandon any of my campaigns because : a) I'm mainly doing these for myself, and I want to have the most fun possible playing them b) what if someone buys an older campaign as their first one, and it's abandoned and sh*t compared to the newer ones? They'll be disappointed and never even try the newer ones.6 points

This is a submission for the B-17G Livery Competition. It includes two skins, one a detailed 'Texas Chubby' and one plain and without the distinguishing markings of 'Texas Chubby". It is a generic B-17G of the 322nd BG, 91st BS as specified in the competition rules. Speculars are used but I will change to roughmets if the developers decide to upgrade the B-17 to PBR. The detailed skin depicts Serial number 42-31634, a B-17G-25-DL, code: LG-O, nicknamed "Texas Chubby - The J'Ville Jolter". The plane flew 50 combat missions with the 322nd Bombardment Squadron of the 91st Bombardment Group. Attacked by German fighters on 16-Aug-44 while on a mission to bomb aircraft factories at Halle, Germany and blew up in mid-air. Crashed in the Forest of Mollenfelde at Eichenberg/Thurlingen, Germany with 5KIA and 4POW. Fate of the crew: Pilot 1Lt Halstead Sherrill (KIA) CoPpilot 2Lt Frank J. Gilligan (POW) Navigator 2Lt William M. Porter (POW) Bombardier 2Lt Nicholas J. Weber (KIA) Engineer/TTG Sgt Vernon E. Bauerline (KIA) Radio Operator SSgt Richard J. Munkwitz (POW) Ball Turret Enrique T. Perez (KIA) Waist SSgt Joseph R. Morrison (KIA) Tail Gun SSgt Chester W. Mis (POW). Submitted to User Files and awaiting approval.6 points

Here is some Challenger 3 action. It's attacking a T-72B, a number of BMPs and infantry. The large smoke explosions are the Trophy APS engaging the incoming ATGMs. The Challengers are mainly firing the DM12 HEAT-T against the BMPs, but also Ke2020Neo APFSDS-T against the T-72B3.5 points

Many people bought the E because it was a full fidelity F15, Many didn't care what F15 it was and many seemed to have misunderstood what the E model was. If the E and C was released at the same time with same quality. Then C would probably sell better because that the 'dogfighting" one. A surprising amount of F15E buyers seemed to have thought the E model was just a C model that could also bomb.4 points

A big thank you to Nathan from the MVP team who was on hand today to attach the transport wheels to the forward fuselage section! The rear of the forward fuselage was lifted up using the pallet forklift and a custom set of attachment brackets were then bolted to the centre section box. Nathan then attached a custom axle fabricated from a set of old FJ Holden stub-axles and wheel hubs! The assembly was then finished off with an original set of 1953 FJ Holden steel wheels rubber treads! The front of the forward fuselage section was then lifted using 2tonne nylon load straps tied through the 30mm gun port cheek plates. With the front of the Sabre lifted, we then placed an aircraft lifting jack under the forward fuselage jacking point to secure everything. Fortunately the entire nose-wheel retracting mechanism was vastly disassembled, enabling us to easily kick-down the nose-leg into the lowered position. However, the rotation linkages are all missing, so when it lowered down, the wheel fork was 90degrees to the centreline. A quick video of the first nose gear drop in possibly 40+years! As evidenced by the enormous amount of dirt and debris it dropped onto the floor! Again, many thanks to Nathan for getting things done today. Using a heavy duty pry-bar, we then managed to pull the gear fork back to centreline. The nose-leg assembly and wheel fork have a fair amount of surface rust, given that they had been laying in the belly of the Sabre for the past 40+ years outside in the rain and dirt.4 points

After little research i found a solution, thanks to which you can be a cool guy with a new visor every day. In the description of the skin, we change the values for the external view, and at the bottom (VR/OTHER PILOTS) of the internal one, how we see this visor when we put it on (i hope), and how we see other player/AI, so both upper and lower should be changed. Have fun! @Timghetta I don't know it is possible but if is, it should be selectable somewhere in mission editor, or radio menu like visor/nvg.4 points

nullHello again, thank you for the hotfix. In terms of Kinematics for specifically 70 NM shots that I have previous data on, there is a drastic increase for the better in this hotfix from the 24th patch. In terms of before the 24th update, there seems to be a increase of terminal mach by around 0.05-0.07 mach (tacview not included from before the 24th update). This hotfix seems to do exactly what you have said, just affecting the lofting and terminal guidance. thank you again for continuing to work on these problems. hotfix 70nm.acmi uupdate 70nm.acmi4 points

The F4E with "modern" RWR is still closer to F4E with old RWR or even an F4D then say the F16C block 50 is to an F16A block 10.3 points

Hi II.JG1_Vonrd Thanks Mate You make a perfectly valid point. What I would say about the "modded JSON makes painted skins way too shiny" see For Painted Surfaces using the LAYERED Specular Template Below SKINNING TIPS For Bare Metal Unpainted Surfaces using the LAYERED Specular Template The base colour of the Spec.dds skin for example needs to be almost White for the Mirror Effect ( fffbff ) and a Medium Mauve ( c03ed0) for Medium Shine and Dull Mauve( 9c66a3) for Brushed Effect BUT variations of Mauve will give contrasting results so just experiment with it. Also For the Diffuse.dds Skin base colour I use is a light Grey (949694) but variations of grey will also give contrasting results. For Painted Surfaces using the LAYERED Specular Template To achieve a Matt Painted Surface I Recommend a Dark Green (23cb23) The Default B-17G Skin and any previously made Custom skins appearance will also be dictated by these factors. I just don't know if it makes sense to report it again. Somehow I just don't see the optimization work. From the very beginning (June 2022), there is a serious problem here with performance and much has been said and reported. Work is going on in adding new facilities and airports, but the problem still exists. The map in forest areas and urban areas performs much worse than other, largest cities such as Cairo. Aleppo or even London generate more FPS for me than smaller towns here. The map only looks good in screenshots and outside of urban/forest areas when there are no more objects. Unfortunately, Im not a programmer and builder of 3D objects to point out the problem. Perhaps each object here has too many construction points in relation to what it should be and hence the problems. I would suggest that the author test at least one locality and improve it, e.g. Ushuaia, and perform full optimization here, doubling the number of frames. We would give feedback if the direction is right and then he could do the same with other places. But this is not happening. I hope we get to it. I think the map is cool, big and interesting, but I don't see any reason for it to work as it currently does.3 points

To add to this, I do like the idea of variants of jets that are very very similar to the versions that fought during their most famous conflicts, but are a bit more modern such that they can fit into later scenarios too. I think it's a prudent business model to have that versatility so we can, for example, choose the F-4E which is almost identical to the final F-4E's in Vietnam that saw combat with the USAF. At the same time, they work well as the Israeli 1973 F-4's while having the option for both AIM-7E, AIM-7F (maybe?) and the Pave Spike to use in late 70's early 80's servers such that they won't get absolutely clobbered by the 80's assets and plane set. Like some others, I personally prefer the ones that fit Vietnam and the Middle East wars exactly, but I can understand and am fond of the idea of making the modules more playable in different environments because it helps more people get into the hobby. As an MP-enthusiast, this is paramount for my own enjoyment.3 points

Pico 4 seems to be kinda troublesome if you read what people are posting on the forum. Quest 2 is ok, but, as @Nighthawk 117 says, I would wait until Quest 3 arrives to see what it offers.3 points

I noticed quite a performance drop as soon as I get close to urban areas, since the last update. Performance was never great for me on this map when flying over cities, but yesterday, when I was inbound on Rio Grande, my framerate crippled as soon as the city got in my field of view. As soon as the city wasn't in my fov everything was smooth again. I feel you looking at my system specs in my signature and thinking: this guys pc is just way too outdated for DCS in VR . But here's the strange thing: I can fly over Cairo (Sinai map) and performance is just fine. Anyone else experiencing this since the latest update? Btw: Luckily, flying over non-urban areas is still pretty smooth. It is so soothing, just flying around over this beautiful scenery3 points

Initially I thought the He111 or sensible Ju87 & 88s. Typhoon is a great shout and just belongs. I’d vote for it twice. Any and all the Spits, (I want Hurris too). if we’re breaking out the PBYs and flying boats my golden ticket vote goes to the Short Sunderland as my Grandad flew in them and left one off Norway. Though it’ll probably be preserved under freezing water, the likelihood of me ever having a look around it is infinitely remote so pretty please, one of those, even though my vote will probably be it’s only one. I tend to agree with Gunfreak a bit when it comes to WWII. I read the explanation that the team isn’t that large too. It does seem pretty hit and miss and though I own probably as many modern types as I do vintage, the modern stuff is obviously their favourite child. Not necessarily for me, I love the musty ol birds, so to speak. To boil it down to one then, my vote goes for a Fairey Swordfish, just to further confuse everything. Oh, I would of course give honourable mentions to full fidelity Lancasters (Scooby’s on it), B17s, B25s, P38s, Zeros… Ok, I’ll shh now.2 points

Don't know why everyone likes extremely late war planes that didnt even affect the war. 262, 410, K4, Dora...really did nothing. We need bread and butter planes like the F and G 109, Ju88s, 87s, Me 110, P38, Typhoon.2 points

Can we play it? No then it doesn't count, Mag3 can go bust, they can be hit by a meteorite, DCS can be gone etc, so until we can actually fly it, it doesn't count.2 points

I see no reason not to do FF warbirds. The more the better. However I really think ED and the other developers need to focus on the Pacific and Eastern Front. SO the Zeke is my top choice it will be a good Axis opponent for the Corsair and Hellcat. Then anything Soviet that served along side both the I-16 and Mig-15. As I keep pointing out the I-16 and MiG-15 both exist in an asset desert I know their service dates don't overlap but I think ED should focus equipment that overlapped with both the I-16 and MiG-15 even if they are just AI.2 points

There are range markers in the donut it i remember correct. Not that it helps to make it more usable. however, I personally came to peace with the fact that the jeffs gun is only for ground strafing and ending endless „return pre contact“ loops.2 points

This is common to every VR headset, render higher than the panel resolution to compensate for the lens barrel distortion. This is because pixels look magnified by the lenses, and therefore you want to render at higher pixel density to counter that and keep the graphics crisp. Your G2 had the same thing, with 100% being something like 3000x3000, aka 1.4x of the panel's 2160x2160. The exact factor depends on the optics and should be advised by the vendor. Running Crystal at 1.4x is likely too challenging though, but it's up to you if you can.2 points

F-100D Development Report The F-100D Super Sabre is a renowned supersonic fighter-bomber that served with the United States Air Force during the Cold War era. As part of the ongoing development efforts for DCS, the F-100D module aims to provide authenticity and immersion whilst flying this iconic aircraft. To achieve this, Grinelli Designs has collaborated with enthusiasts and members of the Collings Foundation, who granted them access to an exceptionally well-preserved F-100, which has been extensively scanned and photographed. Utilizing advanced 3D scanning technologies and photogrammetry we have obtained precise measurements, shapes, and textures of the exterior and cockpit. All data was then processed and refined before being sent to our 3D art team to be used as accurate reference for modeling & texturing. The following areas were addressed to enhance the F-100D Super Sabre module: Exterior Model: Detailed photography serves as the foundation for creating an accurate exterior model of the F-100D. This included refining the aircraft's overall shape, panel lines, surface details, and textures. The goal was to recreate the iconic appearance of the Super Sabre with the utmost fidelity, allowing users to appreciate its unique design features. Cockpit Model: The 3D scans provide invaluable references for recreating the F-100D's cockpit. Every switch, knob, gauge, and control panel can be meticulously replicated to reflect the real-world counterpart. The integration of accurate cockpit lighting and functional elements further adds to the immersive experience of operating the aircraft. Sound Design: To complement the visual and flight model improvements, the development team additionally recorded a multitude of sounds from the cockpit enhancing the audio experience associated with the F-100D Super Sabre. Current Progress: The current development progress of the F-100D module is steadily moving forward, with the module currently in a flyable state. We have made significant progress in various areas, including the flight model, engine, fuel and hydraulic systems, which are currently undergoing alpha testing. Additionally, we are actively testing and refining the core systems of the aircraft, such as electrical, radio, radio navigation, TACAN, oxygen, lighting, IFF, seek silence, and base weapon systems. These systems are being fine tuned to ensure their functionality and authenticity in the aircraft. Comprehensive testing allows us to identify and address any issues or improvements necessary to deliver an immersive F-100D experience to the community. Future Development: The integration of 3D scans has significantly improved the accuracy and fidelity of the F-100D Super Sabre module in DCS World. However, our commitment to ongoing development means that there are still further improvements to be made. Our future plans include: Continuously refining and optimizing the exterior and cockpit models based on feedback from the community and subject matter experts. Fine-tuning the flight model to ensure a more realistic and enjoyable flight experience. Weapon system implementation and integration. Expanding the available liveries and customization options to provide a wider range of visual variations. Collaborating with real F-100D pilots and experts to incorporate their insights and knowledge into the module's development. Bye Phant2 points
