  1. Dear Virtual Fighter Pilots, Partners, and Friends, During the past 30 years, we have worked hard to bring you the most realistic combat flight simulators available for PC. Be it a WWII aircraft or a modern fighter our aim was and remains to offer realism and fun to the entertainment market. With the exceptional technical progress made in hardware and software, it is difficult to tell the difference between DCS and real-world footage. This is wonderful for you and for the industry in general. However, in the light of the current situation unfolding in Israel and Palestine, it is paramount to refrain from generating images which could be misconstrued and potentially put lives in danger. Therefore may we beg you to be sensible and avoid using DCS to create videos of this nature. Our thoughts are with everyone during these uncertain times, and we thank you, our dedicated and caring community for flagging such content and bringing it to the media’s attention. Fake news of this nature is too serious to be left alone and needs to be called out by those of you who know what to look for. Thank you for your understanding and for your support. Kind regards,

  4. NOTE. As always, these videos provide a preview of an upcoming feature to assist you in understanding a new feature. Later, it is quite possible that the feature will change, and the feature functionality has changed. As much as I’d like to, I lack the time re-record these videos. In this rather short DCS: AH-64D video, we’ll look at sending and receiving Fuel, Ammo, Rockets, and Missile, or FARM, reports over the datalink to Primary members. If you have not already watched them, I recommend look at the datalink set up and datalink messaging videos. Once again, I have Chaos 1-2 joining me to demonstrate this capability. Let’s first check our datalink Preset by calling up the COM page, then the desired Preset, and then Network. We can see C-2 listed as both a Team member and a Primary member. To exchange FARM reports, we’ll need to make sure he’s set as a Primary. The next step is to verify that we have the Datalink transmit symbol set to the radio we intend to use to transmit the FARM report. You can see here that the VHF radio has been manually tuned to the same frequency that our wingman is monitoring, signified by “MAN” next to the frequency. However, we can also see that L1 is not displayed next to the VHF radio, meaning the datalink is not capable of transmitting or receiving datalink messages. The datalink will only work if a Preset is tuned. Back on the COM page, we will ensure that our desired Preset is selected. When a preset is selected, a list of available radios will be displayed along the top of the MPD for us to choose from. I’ll select VHF as the radio I wish to tune to this Preset, and now we have several more options along the bottom of the COM page, allowing us to decide how we will tune this Preset to the radio. We could choose to place the Preset in the Standby slot of the VHF radio by toggling the TUNE option from Primary to Standby, but for now, I’ll just leave it set to PRI. All that is left now is to press the button under SC, or Single Channel, to tune the VHF to this frequency. We can now see that the Preset is tuned to the VHF radio, along the Preset callsign of “Hammer” and L1 in the VHF primary slot. Next, let’s send Chaos 1-2 our FARM report first. Select Reports from the TSD and then select FARM. We can then select our Primary members to send it to, in this case, C-2. Now we just select Send over the VHF to Preset 1. We can also of course request FARM reports from Primary members. To do that, select Reports, FARM, and set Message to Request. We then select the Primary members and then select SEND. Once we receive the data, we can view it on the COORD page. From the COORD page, select FARM along the bottom. We can now view received FARM reports, with each listing left to right their callsign, time of reception, fuel level, gun rounds remaining, rockets remaining, radar-Hellfires remaining, and laser-Hellfires remaining. This is the Basic level. Selecting the Type along the bottom, we can view the Primary members expendables like chaff and flares. From left to right: callsign, time of reception, remaining flares, remaining chaff, and other. If we select Type again, we view more detailed missile data. From left to right: callsign, time of report reception, total number of missiles, remaining radar-Hellfire, remaining SAL1 laser-Hellfire, remaining SAL2 Hellfire, and other. If we select Type again and select PP, we can view the 3-dimensional location of our wingman when he sent the FARM report. From left to right: callsign, time of report reception, coordinates, and altitude above sea level. Selecting Type again brings us back to the Basic level.

  5. They’re both full of <profanity>, and take you for fools. You should be angry at them for lying. Since the claim was instantly suspect when this video was brought to my attention, I ran the accel numbers months ago, and the result is commensurate with the G loading on a Cat shot off of a C-13-1 steam catapults found on Nimitz class aircraft carriers. If true, then generally speaking, the F14B performing an afterburner takeoff would be able to accelerate from 0-140 knots in 310 feet…without using the catapult The strange aspect was the exactness of the claim of “9.7 seconds”, which would have had to have been timed with a personal electronic stopwatch since the analog aircraft clock isn’t that granular. Why people do this is beyond me. Out of curiosty, I ran accelerations in the HB version of a clean F14B. -At 3000 MSL in level flight 150-610KIAS took 34 sec. -At 8000 MSL, with a zero G unload, it took 27 sec. -At 18,000 MSL, pointing the aircraft at the center of the earth, unloading to zero G, it took 17 secs (the distance required resulted in crashing into the water). -A clean DCS F16 for comparison, with it’s superior thrust to weight, using those setups took 30/24/20 seconds respectively. To achieve anything close to the claimed performance, we would have to triple the acceleration rate of the Heatblur F14B. I want to be in the room when @IronMike approaches @NineLine with that proposal. I was already working to address this claim with more detail is on my list for an article, but so far, there hasn’t been any determination by Heatblur on setting up a venue for it. I may look for an alternative, since the goal is to preserve the true technical aspects of the aircraft and how it was flown that will outlast me, long after I’m gone. Props to the gents here who smelled the BS and broke out their calculators- JoNay, Spurts, JCTherik, et al. Well done. Bonus Question: To triple the current acceleration, what increase in thrust would be required? Don’t worry about ram effects since they cancel out, what’s the general magnitude of the required increase?

  6. Np, and it's definitely not perfect. There are a lot of weird Abrams models out there. I had to settle on the least worst one and add/remove stuff. This is suppose to be the M1A2 SEPv3. It comes with the M829A4 APFSDS-T and M830A1 HEAT-MP-T.

  7. Ah, fair enough. Either way, we are grateful to have you as part of the DCS community and I'm just happy to see a far nicer M1 Abrams than the old ED/Combined Arms one.

  8. Bit of an update since I have now had time to test & tweak. Based on my experience and what others have posted online, I am almost certain meta isn't supporting AV1 through any sort of link yet. I see horrible compression unless I use the 900 bitrate "trick" in oculus debug tool. This actually removes nearly all of it and things look really quite nice.. To my understanding AV1 should get great results at 200mb but this doesn't happen for me on either link. I don't think you can run airlink over 200, someone tell me if this is wrong. I have used VD and this is very nice looking, can't seem to get it to do wired link yet but it does work nicely with my 6E router, and almost looks the best (ultra or godlike). The main problem for me is that the oculus ASW is terrible through VD, all of the distance is blurry and wobbly. I actually like oculus ASW, one of the few that seem to but for me (on link) it is really good, minimal artifacting and allows me to run very high settings, great eye candy down load and in cities etc. VD also has no (official) openxr at this current time, this is in testing so there might be improvements in perf to come and maybe I will try to move away from ASW if that gets better. I am a new VD user so tips welcome. One surprise is that running at 900mb over link (with and without ASW) I really notice how responsive the headset runs. I also am sure I see I performance improvement, which is bizarre. I actually wonder if the Q2 decoding was a bottleneck previously. I seem to be spending much more time at 80fps (headset set to 80hz) that I ever saw before, and even in my heavy test tracks where I would see dips to below 40fps (reprojection rate) these now do not happen. Odd. I also take back what I said about comfort, its actually awful. I have used the Q2 with stock face plate and strap for three years (yes.. stock strap) and this hurts my head and face after 1 hour. The stock strap also is just different enough to my catch ears whereas the old one didn't, this also means that my headset now doesn't fit either so I will have to buy a new strap that I can use a headset with. Not such a low cost now. I really think the PCVR has a little maturing to do yet on either VD or link but the 900bitrate looks like it will be my current option. I actually think the Q3 will get really nice in link once the updates are fleshed out.

  11. Can ED not clear up canopies more. It is hard enough to see contacts as it is without out all the canopy blurring.

  12. Oh, I see. Anyway, it's the other way around. If you play the Steam version, you need to unbind, but if you've purchased everything through the ED store, there's absolutely no need to bind it too. ED is absolutely not cutting any umbilical cord. But because grifters were exploiting a loophole, you have to choose if you want to play the Steam version. For Standalone, nothing's changed really. I'd remove all mods and do a full repair at this point. You don't have any free trial modules installed by chance? If yes, have you enabled 2FA? You might try to rebind Steam as well. Your error is kinda curious. Cheers! Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk

  14. For perspective, the Space Shuttle accelerated at ~3G on its way to low earth orbit. The fantasy F14B in the video could almost keep up with it below the troposphere.

  15. Why? People misremember what they did yesterday, all the time, and that's when they aren't paying attention to 50 other "life or death details" at that moment. Also, you seem to be discounting various other reasons to exaggerate\obfuscate performance, such as classified specs, or deliberate misinformation, exactly like what was done with the MiG-25 Foxbat; the US thought it was a much better plane, (until they got ahold of one).

  19. Took a quick scan of the cockpit centre console The Emergency Stores Release handle and attachment bracket have been media blasted and given primer coat. The attachment frame will be cockpit black, whilst the handle itself will be red with white lettering. There is also a stainless retainer cage, which we are yet to polish. The assembly will be modified to accommodate an electronic switch setup for the sim pit, doing away with the old wire system used in the actual aircraft.

  20. The team got back on the tools this weekend, with the cockpit centre console removed for restoration. All of the console instruments, wiring, relays and switch gear have been removed. The structure will be media blasted, primed and painted before all of the new sim electronics are installed.

  21. Updated version 1.3 - 15/10/2023 - Log: Mission 3 AI Apache not in correct parking spot - FIXED Mission 4 "smuggler escaped" Mission failed problem - FIXED* *Apparently, ED changed active runway logics a bit, in their latest OB update, which messed up my mission triggers. I had to increase wind speed a fraction, in order to force AI to use the intended runway.

  22. Yes, same here. It had nothing to do with "DCS/Steam bindings". It was "just" Steam server problems yesterday. All is running fine again today.

  23. I don't have proof whether the document I cited is pre-1980, so I am being careful about posting full pages from it as I don't know how ED feels about that. You can find the whole thing pretty easily on the web, graphs are on pages 242-245 but they are not useful to compare to other aircraft carrying different loads at different altitudes without some kind of correction. What I posted is a calculated value, but calculated as directly as possible from the original data. It is obviously not "official," but whether or not that counts as "actual" is entirely a value judgement.

  25. NATOPS does indeed point to assymetric thrust issues as the reason for no burner on cat shots AND runway takeoffs. I've actually run myself off into the grass once by mishandling my afterburner detent. That said, I do remember seeing occasional videos of GE Tomcats, probably Ds, going into burner for a second immediately after coming off the deck.

  32. Actually, you do. A lot - or you would not be so vocal about it. Which is a bit of a puzzler to me, since you've been around the block a few times in DCS and know that the time between bug-fixes here are best measured in geological timescales. Unlike other vendors in the DCS arena, OnReTech have been very forthcoming with information, and we know that they are angling for a November/December update. That's more than I can say about other recent purchases (e.g. Mudhen, Normandy). There always are, you simply choose to not accept them, and that is fully within your rights. Personally, I'd of course be happier if OnReTech already had published some updates to the Sinai map, because more is always better. Then again, I don't feel that OnReTech is withholding a release just to spite me, so I'm feeling that there's some solid reasoning behind not pushing out an update. I see that you are disappointed. I'm happy with my Sinai Map enough to use it (although it does have a couple of annoyances that I hope will be remedied with an upcoming fix), and I believe that I have received good value for my purchase. Just like you, my purchase of an EA product implicitly includes the expectation of updates. It seems my expectation of the timeframe involved is slightly greater than yours. It's the final product that I will judge OnReTech's merits by, and I respect the "caveat emptor" of an EA purchase. Maybe you can too? I think they are worth the risk.

  36. Thx for the info. Yeah I'm not expecting 120fps at 8k etc. Just an upgrade from 2016. And considering I've already spent about 1500+ upgrading (pc & peripherals) and about to spend more on headset. Just want to be able to read displays/hud and tell difference between a building and a plane. By the time I've saved up it's already obsolete. And I'm tired of waiting for next gen and sales. Hence still on CV1.

  39. That's not correct...was tested back in 2013 and it is now an authorized loadout for combat operations. What we have in game isn't sergeant fletcher though so no it wouldn't be used in combat. https://www.airandspaceforces.com/a-10s-external-fuel-tank-tested-for-combat-environments/ But as mentioned the original post isn't a bug its an actual real world limitation.

  44. Hi all, to help us get as much information as possible please follow this guide when reporting VR performance issues. What we need: dxdiag ( enter dxdiag into the search box on the windows taskbar. Select dxdiag from the results. In the tool, select Save All Information for an easily shared format.) dcs.log Short as possible track replay where you experience the issue, attach if under size limit or link via a cloud link. Screenshot of DCS settings page and VR setting page. Screenshot of your VR device settings Screenshot of your NVIDIA / AMD control panel settings. This will help a lot when trying to diagnose issues. Thank you
